A bizarre burglary attempt in Telangana's Ranga Reddy district took an unexpected turn when an alleged thief reportedly fell asleep inside the house after consuming alcohol. 'Biggest incident in 170 years': Thieves blow up Dutch museum door to steal gold 'masterpieces'

<p>'To each, their own' is perhaps the mode of living for most of us and perhaps that's why when a trio of thieves decided to come together and plan a daring robbery to steal&nbsp;Pokemon cards, they may have thought&nbsp;there will be no judgement over&nbsp;what they thought was valuable. &nbsp;</p>

<p>And while they indeed committed a crime by stealing more than 35,000 Pokemon cards, the comic element of the heist was not lost and even the store that got robbed cracked jokes on social media.</p>

<p>The target was&nbsp;Tofu’s Trading, a trading card store in San Jose, California.</p>

<p>The thieves broke into the store at 2 am at night, carefully trying to stick to their ambitious plan, moving inside the store to search for Pokemon cards, and being clearly recorded in CCTV cameras inside the store. One of the theives also tries to crawl on the ground to avoid detection, right in front of a camera.</p>

<p>As per media reports, the theft took place on January 24 and the culprits managed to escape before the police arrived.</p>

<p>"We saw like three people breaking in through our side door, which was kind of ridiculous because there’s a fridge blocking it – so I don’t think it was a targeted attack at all,” said the store's co-owner and manager, Amy Simpson, as quoted by ABC7.</p>

<p>“I don’t think they were in for hobby necessarily because they didn’t know what to take.”</p>

<p>The burglars did steal more than 35,000 Pokemon cards&nbsp;but&nbsp;missed a special collection of cards which was valued more than the&nbsp;cards they stole.</p>

<p>The store owners were so amused with the entire incident that they made a video and put it on social media.</p>

Thieves stole 35,000 Pokemon cards from store but didn't quite 'catch'em all'

<p>In what comes as a bizarre news, a Georgia man in the US broke into a church in the state of Florida, caused damage worth several thousand dollars and then&nbsp;allegedly “baptised&nbsp;himself” in the sanctuary’s font, according to a report in <em>New York Post.&nbsp;</em></p>

<p>The incident transpired at the&nbsp;Emerald Beach Church of God in Panama City Beach in the first week of August. According to police officers who responded to the burglary call, the accused identified as&nbsp;Derek Porter had used a cinderblock to smash a window to get inside.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"On August 4th, 2023, Bay County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) responded to a Burglary call at the Emerald Beach Church of God off of Alf Coleman Rd. Deputies discovered Derek Porter from Georgia had used a cinder block to smash the window of the church to enter inside," said the police.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“While inside, Porter caused approximately $8,000 worth of damage to the church.&nbsp;Porter then loaded several electronics including a television and a computer into his truck along with the church’s money bag."</p>

<h2><strong>Porter did not remember anything</strong></h2>

<p>The sheriff's office said a female employee was inside the church when&nbsp;Porter entered the premises. However, she fled the scene quickly after hearing the glass breaking.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After police apprehended Porter, he said he could not remember what happened during "various moments inside the church".&nbsp;</p>

<p>“He did remember however baptising himself in the church’s baptistry pool. Porter claims ‘something’ was holding his head down under the water while in the pool,” it added.</p>

<p dir="ltr">The incident took place on April 10, when deputies said they responded to a report of a Lake Barrington resident with a gunshot wound. When deputies arrived at the site, they found 62-year-old Mark Dicara with a gunshot wound on his leg, <a href="https://www.lakecountyil.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=3572">the Lake County Sheriff's Office said in a release.</a></p>

<p dir="ltr">A tourniquet was immediately applied to Dicara's leg, as there was significant amount of blood loss.&nbsp;</p>

<p dir="ltr">When cops interrogated him, they found that Dicara had a dream about someone breaking into his house. In the dream, he shoots at the burglar&nbsp;with his .357 Magnum revolver.</p>

<p dir="ltr">But, what unfolded was bizarre. Dicara shot himself instead reportedly and woke up in pain, the release stated. He was later rushed to a local hospital for treatment.&nbsp;</p>

<p dir="ltr">''The round discharged from the firearm went through Dicara's leg and lodged itself into the bedding. Fortunately, the round did not travel through a shared wall with Dicara's neighbours,'' the release said.</p>

<p dir="ltr">The police also confirmed during the interrogation that an attempted burglary did not take place at Dicara's residence, and there was no intruder in his property.</p>

<p>The incident transpired at the Apple Store in the Alderwood Mall, Seattle when the facility was closed. The thieves did their homework and managed to sneak in by cutting a hole in the bathroom wall of a coffee shop next door to enter the backroom of the Apple store. The clever manoeuvre allowed the burglars to bypass Apple's security system.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Apple security team as well as the shop employees had no information about the stolen merchandise until they arrived for work the next day.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lynwood Police confirmed that apart from the iPhones, Apple merchandise worth thousands of dollars was also stolen by the crafty thieves.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Approximately 436 iPhones in total were taken out of the back. As of right now, no [fingerprints] have been found and the subjects entered wearing masks,” Lynwood Police Department Communications Manager Maren McKay was quoted as saying by Fox News.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“No arrests have been made at this point, but detectives are currently investigating any information and leads.”</p>

'Cereal burglar': Thief in India cooks food in the middle of burglury, arrested

<p>Seven years ago, Lakewood Church, the Houston megachurch led by Joel Osteen, the prominent televangelist, reported that $200,000 in cash and $400,000 in checks had been stolen from a church safe.</p>

<p>Last month, the money may have been discovered — not by detectives or church personnel, but rather by a plumber fixing a toilet inside a church bathroom.</p>

<p>The plumber revealed the discovery Thursday when he called into a Houston radio show.</p>

<p>“There was a loose toilet in the wall, and we removed the tile,” he said on 100.3 FM’s morning show. “We went to go remove the toilet, and I moved some insulation away and about 500 envelopes fell out of the wall.”</p>

<p>His reaction? “Oh, wow.”</p>

<p>The plumber said he contacted a maintenance supervisor and then gave the church the envelopes. On Friday, Houston police confirmed that the money appeared to be connected to the 2014 theft.</p>

<p>In a statement on Twitter, the department said that officers responded to a report of property discovered at the church on November&nbsp;10 and were told by church members that a “large amount of money, including cash, checks and money orders” had been found inside a wall during a renovation project.</p>

<p>Burglary and theft investigators responded and an undisclosed amount of money was inventoried, documented and left in the custody of the church since it had been found on Lakewood’s property, police said.</p>

<p>“Evidence from the recovered checks suggests this November case is connected to a March 9, 2014, theft report of undisclosed amounts of money at the church,” police said, adding that the investigation was continuing.</p>

<p>In a statement, Lakewood Church confirmed the discovery.</p>

<p>“Recently, while repair work was being done at Lakewood Church, an undisclosed amount of cash and checks were found,” the church said. “Lakewood immediately notified the Houston Police Department and is assisting them with their investigation. Lakewood has no further comment at this time.”</p>

<p>Osteen is among the country’s best-known televangelists, and his church, which holds services in the former Compaq Center, once home to the Houston Rockets, seats about 16,000 people. Before the pandemic, the church had been drawing an average of about 42,000 people to services every week, according to a church spokesperson.</p>

<p>The 2014 theft from the church’s safe was discovered by a church employee, a Houston police spokesperson told The Houston Chronicle that year.</p>

<p>Lakewood Church said in a statement at the time that the “funds were fully insured, and we are working with our insurance company to restore the stolen funds to the church,” the newspaper reported. The church and Crime Stoppers of Houston had offered $25,000 for information that led to the arrest of those responsible for the theft, according to the Chronicle.</p>

<p>The plumber, who identified himself only as Justin, revealed that he had found the money when he called “The Morning Bullpen with George Mo and Erik” on Thursday.</p>

<p>The hosts had asked callers to share stories of the valuable things they had found and had fielded calls about a lost wedding ring and a $100 bill when they heard from the plumber, according to George Lindsey, a host of the show.</p>

<p>“It was the most unique and incredible phone call I have had in my 25-plus year radio career — without a doubt,” Lindsey said Friday. He said the show went to a commercial break to confirm that the caller wasn’t pulling a prank and then let the plumber tell his story on air.</p>

<p>“I wish we had video of all of our faces as he was telling the story because it was like, 'Are you kidding me?' ” Lindsey said, adding that the 2014 theft was “big news” in Houston.</p>

<p>During the call, the plumber noted that there was a $25,000 reward offered, saying with a laugh, “I need some compensation.” He said he never thought about pocketing any of the envelopes.</p>

<p>“I’m an honest man,” he said.</p>

<p>Rania Mankarious, CEO of Crime Stoppers of Houston, said $20,000 of the reward had been offered by Lakewood Church, which donated the money to Crime Stoppers after a year passed with no breaks in the case.</p>

<p>Lindsey said he believed that the plumber was frustrated that he hadn’t heard anything from the church or the police since he found the stash November 10.</p>

<p>Lakatos, a Romanian by birth but a French resident, denied conspiring to steal on or before March 10, 2016.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The gems, which included a 20-carat heart-shaped diamond worth more than $4.1 million, were to be kept in a locked bag in the jeweller's vault until payment was made.</p>

<p>When Boodles' diamond expert opened the bag the next day after becoming suspicious, she discovered seven tiny rocks.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Last September, Lakatos was arrested in France on a European arrest warrant and extradited to the United Kingdom.</p>

<p>The burglars cut holes in the fence of the warehouse, and then cut holes into the roof skylights, from where they got down through shelves.</p>
