Indian filmmaker, Rahul Jain, whose documentary ‘Invisible Demons’ premiered at the ongoing 74th Cannes Film Festival in France under the ‘Cinema for the Climate’ section of the coveted film festival.

“The film comes from a fear, the kind that a child has when they look at their hands and there's blood and they are confused. It is the same way I feel when you are melting at 50 degrees Celsius or when the AQI (Air Quality Index) is so high that you have to be locked in your home with a mask on. These are really visceral feelings and the fear of these feelings or the terror generated from them is what culminated in the film," he reportedly said in an interview.

The documentary filmmaker also said that humans do not need to be saved and that it is pretty much the other way round. “The world that we have created is affecting unwilling participants. They are the unwilling spectators to our greed and destruction… It is not a story, it is an experience because I got really sick when I came to Delhi after a long journey. I had all things to protect myself from ecological contact. The intensity of the change was so high and so fast that I felt physically compelled to do what I did, make a film,” he said.

“I could have made the film about different and bigger regions of the country or the whole country itself. But, I thought that if it is concise and focused on one city, and in particular, the city in question also being in the news for being the most polluted spot on earth consistently for a while, and it also being my hometown, it just felt like the right limit or structure to pursue,” he added.

"I can never control who watches my work. If I am going to spend two or three years on something it better be good and hope people connect with it. I am not trying to please everybody but I do try to reach out to more people," Jain said, while talking about attracting the right kind of viewers with his film on pollution, especially in New Delhi.

Talking about his inspiration and research work, Jain—a California Institute of the Arts graduate—said books such as 'Capital' by Rana Dasgupta, Amitav Ghosh's 'The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable', 'Hyperobjects: Philosophy and Ecology After the End of the World' by Timothy Morton, 'Underland' by Robert Macfarlane helped him with his documentary.

Rahul Jain hopes that his film reaches far and wide as the dialogue around climate change—now stronger than ever—needs more visibility in mainstream media. This is his second after 'Machines', a film based out of a garment factory in Gujarat.

“As a cinema lover, I cannot fathom what to expect but I know it is a big deal because everybody thinks so. Personally, I am relieved as an artist that it is something that I worked on for years and it will have a life and hopefully it will be widely seen. I am glad I had the opportunity to bring this story out (sic),” he concluded.

‘Invisible Demons’ comes from fear when you’re melting, says Indian docu maker Rahul Jain about his Cannes entry

Although Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah is well-aware of late Dilip Kumar’s obvious greatness and thanked him for all the ‘magic’ as an actor, he wondered why the deceased actor chose to play safe despite being a star and never go beyond acting.

Calling him ‘immaculate’ at his craft, Shah, in an opinion-editorial piece for an Indian newspaper, said that the much-celebrated actor did not pass on his vast knowledge based on experience to anyone or groom the next generation of actors. “Some of those works doubtless will survive the test of time but, given the position he was in, it is more than evident he didn’t do enough apart from acting and being involved in social causes close to his heart. He produced only one film, didn’t direct any (officially at least), never passed on the benefit of his experience, didn’t bother to groom anyone, and apart from his pre-1970s performances, left behind no significant lessons for future actors; even his autobiography is but a rehash of old interviews,” Shah wrote.

“…It’s baffling why a man as conscious of his place in history as he was should be reluctant to record his interaction with some of the admittedly great filmmakers of his time or say anything really informative about the nature of his work and technique. I wish, at some point, he had at least been forthright about the travails involved in retaining legions of devoted fans,” added the actor and theatre personality.
In the same piece, Shah praised Dilip Saab—as the latter is fondly remembered—for his ‘consummate characterisations, the dignified deportment, the mellifluous diction, the controlled but roiling emotionality’ in films.

“The holy grail of acting that he is in commercial Hindi cinema, his achievements supposedly unsurpassable, I trust that, now that all the tributes have been paid, I will not be putting my foot in my mouth if I talk not only of the undoubted greatness of some of his performances but raise a question – perhaps, provoke a debate — on whether his example as a star was worthy of emulation and whether he helped push the envelope toward progress or whether he facilitated the downward spiral of popular Hindi cinema into the total star-centricity in which it wallows today,” said about Dilip Kumar supposedly starting the ‘star-centric- culture in Indian cinema.

In 2016, after Bollywood actor Rajesh Khanna’s death—another superstar— Naseeruddin Shah had landed in trouble for calling Khanna a ‘limited, a poor actor’. He later apologized for his ‘uncalled for’ comments to his fans and family.

Bollywood star Deepika Padukone has treated the audiences with numerous characters and memorable performances within a career span of 13 years. One performance that proved to be a turning point in Deepika's career was the character of 'Veronica' in 'Cocktail'. Post 'Cocktail', the actress delivered many other memorable characters and fabulous performances but Veronica remains one of her best.

As 'Cocktail' clocked 9 years to it's release, Deepika went down the memory lane, and shared about how the film proved to be a "turning point" in her career.

Speaking about the film, Deepika shared with a leading publication, “I’ve always believed while you put a little part of yourself in every character you play, you also carry a part of that character with you forever. Veronica will always be one of the most special characters I’ve played; one that changed a lot for me professionally and impacted me personally"

When asked if Veronica was a turning point for her Bollywood career, Deepika stated, "Yes. If a character resonated with millions, then obviously there was something about it that audiences empathised with,” she says.

Reminiscing how she prepped for the role, the actress said that Veronica’s personality is not one she was familiar with at that stage in her life. "When I was given the script to read I assumed it was for Meera’s character (played by Diana Penty). Imtiaz Ali called me up one day and requested me to re-read the script for Veronica. After a couple of days and giving it some thought, I understood what he meant and saw what he saw. While I had butterflies in my tummy, I also knew I was ready for it,” Deepika says.

She further added, "I don’t think I would have been able to do what I did if it wasn’t for Homi Adajania. He gave me wings to fly and made me believe I could do no wrong. With that belief, we were able to create a character that will live in our hearts forever.”

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone is, quite evidently, a fitness freak and has been entertaining her fans with quirky posts and videos since she cleansed her Instagram profile at the beginning of the year. From goofy videos with husband and fellow Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh to bake-offs with her friends, Deepika’s social media game has undergone a major makeover. One that fans seem to love.

On Monday, the actress posted an animation video of a female figure doing Yoga—we are assuming it’s her—while a soothing meditative music played in the background. She wrote, “I love...My yoga mat. That's it. That's the post.” Sure enough, her followers couldn’t stop gushing over her therapeutic video post.

I always share a picture with those who matter to me on their birthdays and did the same for Mathias, who is a part of my inner circle,” she was quoted as saying. For the uninitiated, Mathias Boe is a Danish shuttler who has won a gold medal in the European Games in 2015 and also received a silver medal at the Summer Olympics 2012. On the work front, Taapsee Pannu was last sene in ‘Haseen Dillruba’ that started streaming on Netflix on July 2. The actress has several other projects in her kitty, namely: ‘Rashmi Rocket’, ‘Looop Lapeta’, ‘Shabaash Mithu’ and a film with filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.

It is well known that Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan is an avid reader and writer. And in order to mourn the loss of his former co-star and legendary actor Dilip Kumar, he took to his blog and penned some beautiful yet heartbreaking words for the late Dilip Kumar. In his blog, he recalled being starstruck by him and the moment he met the actor in person. “The name that had been floating in that vacuum suddenly took shape, right there on the screen in front of me .. large and in black and white .. that name, that visual often repeated in converse .. DILIP KUMAR .. there was something in his presence .. when he appeared all others became a blurred focus .. when he spoke, you felt right, convinced .. and you came back with all of that home .. and it remained with you.”

Bachchan spoke about the time he ran into Dilip Saab at a restaurant and mustered up the courage to go up to him and ask for an autograph. “After long contemplation which drove me to awe and shivering excitement, I decided to approach him for an autograph .. but no autograph book .. so out again in the street, a book bought and inside the restaurant again and the relief to still find him there .. the walk up to him .. he is concentrated conversation .. i push my words to him in general and the book in hand .. there is no reaction .. he did not even look at me or the book .. and after a short while walked away , out through the door and gone .. the autograph book still in my vacant hands .. the autograph book was not important at all .. it was his presence .. that’s it.”

Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh has been roped in to star in the Hindi remake of Tamil hit film 'Aruvi'. The remake will be directed by E. Niwas, who has called the shots on films like 'Shool', 'Dum', and 'Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega' in the past.

The 2017 Tamil film starred actress Aditi Balan in the lead role. Balan`s protagonist Aruvi was deemed a progressive, post-modern symbol of feminism by most viewers.

"I look forward to dive deep into the skin of the character. I am really excited to embark on this journey," said Fatima.

Director Niwas added: "`Aruvi` is not just a story of a hero. It`s a triumph over the labyrinths of life. It`s totally euphoric, and a privilege to explore one of the most beautiful cinematic characters I have come across. Fatima Sana Shaikh is an absolutely befitting choice."

The Hindi remake is expected to go on floors in mid-2021.

"Equally funny and ferocious, `Aruvi` is a provocative, feminist social satire that stunned us when we first saw it. We were drawn in by its unconventional narrative, deftly balancing its black comedy leanings, with the beats of a tautly executed thriller," said Sameer Nair, CEO of Applause Entertainment, who have produced the film with Faith Film.

It`s totally euphoric, and a privilege to explore one of the most beautiful cinematic characters I have come across. Fatima Sana Shaikh is an absolutely befitting choice." The Hindi remake is expected to go on floors in mid-2021.

"Holistic lifestyle has been a part and parcel of my life even before I made my debut in Bollywood. I have always wanted to lead a healthy lifestyle and working out and eating right was always a top priority for me. I want to build something of my own in the health and nutrition space in the coming years and I have been researching the same for years now," Vaani said.

"I want to actively promote and raise awareness about how important health is among the citizens of my country. Being healthy should be a top priority for us all, at all times. It really doesn`t take much to ensure that we are eating right and living right and I want to engage with people on the same," she said.

Vaani said she has many great ideas and will be working round the clock to envision the feasibility of these ideas.

"I have many exciting ideas on this but it`s too premature for me to speak openly about it. As of now, I`m concentrating on being the best version of myself every single day and to showcase that to the people so that when I decide to start on my health journey, they will be convinced about it," she said.
"I have to walk the talk and set examples for people to believe in my vision and I want to do just that for now," said the actress, who has three back-to-back releases lined up over the next few months -- 'Bellbottom', 'Shamshera', and 'Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui'.
