Indian fans reacted to the famous 'Nagin dance' of Bangladeshi players when 'Men in Blue' clinched the Nidahas Trophy

India defeated Bangladesh in the finals of Nidahas Trophy T20 tri-series at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday. All credit goes to wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik who blasted 29 off just 8 balls and finished the nail-biting match by hitting six runs on the last ball. In the third match of the tournament, which 'the Tigers' won by 5 wickets against Sri Lanka, Bangladeshi wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim found a new and unusual way of celebration. He did the famous 'Nagin dance' after hitting the winning runs, the dance which went on to become the signature move for Bangladeshi fans and followers.
After a spectacular win against hosts Sri Lanka, rejuvenated Bangladesh is all prepped up to take on clinical India in the final of the Nidahas Trophy T20 tri-series at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.

Although, Rohit Sharma-led team had the better of Bangladesh in the previous encounters in ongoing T20 series, Shakib Al Hasan's team now looks completely different and one that is high on confidence.

Bangladesh have never defeated India in the T20 format. The two sides have played seven games with 'The Tigers' losing each.

Bangladesh will be desperate to get one over the Indian side in the last match of the T20 tri-series.

The team head into the final on the back of broken dressing room glass, threat of calling the players back during a match and some verbal jousting. The last-over fracas against Sri Lanka has not won Shakib Al Hasan’s side plenty of friends.

Nidahas Trophy: India win nail-biting thriller as Dinesh Karthik hits match-winning six

India won the toss and opted to bowl against Bangladesh in the final of the Nidahas Trophy T20 tri-series at the R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.

Although Rohit Sharma-led team had the better of Bangladesh in the previous encounters in ongoing T20 series, Shakib Al Hasan's team now looks completely different and one that is high on confidence.

Talking about his strategy for today, Rohit said, "we are gonna field first. It looks a good track. Looks a bit drier. We have seen in the tournament, that the wicket keeps getting better and better as the game progresses. Better to have the target in front and see what we can do with the ball."

"Later we can come and chase the target down. I am a firm believer of putting runs on the board but the conditions don't permit us that as the wicket keeps getting better and better as the game progresses. The tournament suggests that the target given has been chased down barring the only game we won batting first. We have one change," he added.

Bangladesh have never defeated India in the T20 format. The two sides have played seven games with 'The Tigers' losing each.

Talking about his plan to take on India, Shakib al Hasan said, "I was a bit confused before the toss. It is not a bad thing to bat first. Put the runs on the board in the final game. Looks to me a very good wicket."

"In the last two weeks, Premadasa has produced some very good batting wickets. Hopefully, it will remain the same and we can put a good total on the board and defend it. Everthing under control and everyone is focussing on this game. It is a very important game for us. I thought we have played really well in all the 4 games and given ourselves the best chance to win all of them. We need to do little bit extra to win it against India, they are a very good side," he added.

Then Shabbir Rahman came at number 3 and salvaged the innings by hitting 77 runs but got bowled at on a brilliant delivery of Indian pacer Jaydev Unadkat. Chahal struck again and saw off wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim at a low score of 9 runs. Mahmudullah (21) and skipper Shakib Al Hasan (7) fell short in running between the wickets returned to the pavilion. Better to have the target in front and see what we can do with the ball." "Later we can come and chase the target down. Looks to me a very good wicket." "In the last two weeks, Premadasa has produced some very good batting wickets. India: (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik(w), Lokesh Rahul, Manish Pandey, Vijay Shankar, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jaydev Unadkat, Yuzvendra Chahal Bangladesh: (Playing XI): Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, Sabbir Rahman, Mushfiqur Rahim(w), Soumya Sarkar, Mahmudullah, Shakib Al Hasan(c), Mehidy Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Nazmul Islam

Nidahas trophy: Bangladesh win toss, opt to bowl

He wasn’t at his fluent best. But stand-in captain, Rohit Sharma, finally found some good form in India’s Nidahas Trophy 2018 encounter against Bangladesh and led his team into the finals of the tournament. Rohit led from the front on a sticky wicket at Colombo and his 89 off 61 balls was instrumental in giving India a comprehensive 17-run victory.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh decided to put India in. Prior to last night’s game, every team that had batted second in this tournament had won the match. But India put on a solid batting display on a tough wicket that thwarted the opposition. The pitch at Colombo was a little different from the ones used earlier and the ball wasn’t coming off the bat. Stroke-making was difficult as the ball was gripping and it wasn't easy to hit on the up. But the Indian openers showed patience and formed a solid 70-run stand. After Shikhar Dhawan departed for 35, Suresh Raina (47 off 30 balls) came in and played an effortless knock that helped chug the Indian innings along.

Raina and Rohit formed a scintillating 102-run stand for the second wicket that gave India a solid foundation. Rohit’s innings was especially laudable. He took his time to get in. Initially he wasn’t getting the big hits but slowly, as he got used to the pace of the wicket, Rohit began striking the ball well and eventually struck some glorious strokes all over the park. Rohit got dismissed in the last ball of the innings for a fantastic 89 off 61 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes. It was an excellent knock and helped India achieve an above-par total of 176-3.

Bangladesh began their chase well with Tamim Iqbal in good striking form. The left-handed opener took 18 runs of Shardul Thakur's first over and it looked like Bangladesh would give this target a real chase. However, young Washington Sundar yet again proved his worth in the Powerplay overs. The 18-year-old off-spinner bowled exceptionally well and grabbed three wickets inside the first six overs. He gave the ball a lot of loops, bowled tight channels and kept things simple. The batsmen found it hard to go against him and kept losing their wickets. In the end, Sundar’s 22 runs for 3 wickets in four overs proved to be decisive. This youngster has proved his mettle regularly and it is time that the selectors begin thinking of Sundar as a future prospect as he clearly has the abilities for it.

The only blip in an otherwise complete performance by India was Mohammed Siraj’s bowling. The young fast bowler went for 50 runs in his 4 overs and this is now his fourth international T20 game where he has conceded more than 40 runs. Perhaps it is time to start looking beyond him now.

For Bangladesh, save for Mushfiqur Rahim’s 72 off 55 balls, none of the other batsmen showed any real gumption to stay at the wicket. Had someone played alongside Rahim, Bangladesh might have got to the target. With just one more game remaining in the tournament, Bangladesh’s team management has to be a little more cautious in how they approach their game because another slip up would mean curtains for them. Their next match is against Sri Lanka on Friday and the winner of that game would progress to the finals. The Tigers would hope for a better show from their batsmen next time.

Meanwhile, things are looking good for this new-look Team India. Captain Rohit Sharma should be pretty pleased as things are falling place for the team pretty nicely. India would certainly be high on confidence for the finals and would be hoping for another clinical show from the players.
Team batting second would be at an advantage if Duckworth-Lewis Rain Rule comes into play. Men in blue are currently leading the tournament with four points, as they won two out of three matches till now. Though, India had lost the first match against Sri Lanka but fought their way out in the second match when the young guns of the team came out as champions. Rohit Sharma, who is leading the team in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli, has not performed at-par. A big shout out to the bowlers, especially Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar, both of them have outbowled the opponents with their variety of seam and pace. The newcomers are playing with passion, dedication and are stepping up for the team as the pillars in odd situations. In a recent interview newcomer Shardul said, "When other senior bowlers are missing from the team, it's me who (has) to step up." On the other hand, Bangladesh has shrugged its rust off in this series when they stunned Sri Lanka and marked a record run chase of 215. Mushfiqur Rahim slammed an unbeaten 72 off 35 balls that inspired Bangladesh to such a massive victory. Teams: India: Rohit Sharma (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Lokesh Rahul, Suresh Raina, Manish Pandey, Dinesh Karthik, Vijay Shankar, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal Bangladesh: Mahmudullah (C), Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman, Mehidy Hasan, Rubel Hossain, Abu Hider Rony, Mustafizur Rahman and Nazmul Islam. Rohit Sharma wins toss, opts to bowl first; bowlers restrict Bangladesh to 139/8

India's young bowling unit got its bearings back with a disciplined effort to restrict Bangladesh to a modest 139/8 in the second round robin league match of the Nidahas T20 Tri-Nation tournament, here this evening.

After a nightmarish effort against hosts Sri Lanka in the opener, the inexperienced line-up gave a much better account of themselves, using the conditions well, much to the delight of their skipper Rohit Sharma.

The testimony to a better performance was as many as 55 dot balls (9.1 overs) being bowled by the 'Men In Blue'.

On a slow Premadasa track, all-rounder Vijay Shankar's (2/32 in 4 overs) wicket-to-wicket stuff proved to be handy even though he had at least three catches dropped off his bowling. Jaydev Unadkat (3/38) had the most number of wickets but he was inconsistent throughout his four-over spell with a mixture of good deliveries followed by half-trackers.

Skipper Rohit once again started with off-spinner MS Washington Sundar (0/23 in 4 overs) and the normally dangerous Tamim Iqbal (15, 16 balls) found it difficult to get going in the Powerplay overs. Sundar bowled as many as 13 dot balls in those first six overs.

His partner Soumya Sarkar (14, 12 balls) flicked Unadkat over long-leg for a six but the Saurashtra left-arm had the last laugh when he was caught at short fine-leg trying to whip a rising delivery.

Tamim's misery was ended by a well-disguised short-ball from Shardul Thakur (1/25 in 4 overs), which climbed on him sharply. His mistimed pull-shot was taken easily by Unadkat at short fine-leg.

Liton Das (34, 30 balls) and former skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (18) added 31 runs for the third wicket.

Rahim, in fact, started with a switch-hit sweep and a conventional slog sweep off Yuzvendra Chahal (1/19 in 4 overs), who didn't bowl too many boundary balls after that.
Shankar, playing his second international game, impressed everyone by hitting the right length time and again.

The lack of pace in his bowling was managed well by managing to hit the good length spot with Suresh Raina dropping a dolly to give Liton a reprieve. The ball stopped on him and climbed up. It was an easy skier went abegging with Raina running from mid-off dropped it.

Liton once again got lucky as another Shankar bouncer saw him try to clear the deep fine leg but Chahal running in-front spilt the catch.

However in his next over, Shankar got his first international wicket when Mushfiqur edged one to Dinesh Karthik behind the stumps.

Skipper Mahmudullah (1, 8 balls)was frustrated by Chahal's variations and in his desperate bid tried to hit Shankar inside out gave an easy catch to Shardul at sweeper cover boundary.

Liton couldn't utilise the chances that he got as Chahal enticed him with a flighted delivery as Raina took a simple catch at long-off.

Shankar was again unlucky in his final over when he sprinted around 35 metres towards vacant on the side trying to latch onto a catch off his own bowling. The batsman in question was Shabbir Rahaman (30, 26 balls), whose lusty blows towards the end gave Bangladesh's total, a semblance of respectability.

UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights Andrew Gilmour said that Myanmar's 'ethnic cleansing' continues. Gilmour's comments came after a four-day visit to refugee camps in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh on Tuesday.

"The ethnic cleansing of Rohingya from Myanmar continues. I don't think we can draw any other conclusion from what I have seen and heard in Cox's Bazar," Gilmour said.

"The nature of the violence has changed from the frenzied blood-letting and mass rape of last year to a lower intensity campaign of terror and forced starvation that seems to be designed to drive the remaining Rohingya from their homes and into Bangladesh."
