NASA satellites have detected a mysterious blue-green glow off Australia’s southern coast. The radiant glimmer in the ocean stumped the world at first, but it is only a phytoplankton bloom in the Great Australian Bight and Tasman Sea. What has astonished everyone is that this bioluminescent spectacle is so strong that it can be seen from space. Phytoplankton are marine organisms that are vital for the ocean ecosystems. The observation was first made by NASA’s PACE spacecraft, which saw the glow between mainland Australia and Tasmania. Scientists used the advanced Ocean Color Instrument to document the turquoise glow in the ocean, Sustainability Times reported. But this was not the only time it was seen from space. The Suomi NPP previously noted the bioluminescence in 2023, followed by the Aqua satellites in 2024. Repeated occurrences of this marine phenomenon helped scientists notice the pattern it follows and how it changes according to seasons. Perth has increasingly been labelled Australia’s “meth capital,” with alarmingly high consumption rates that rank among the highest globally. According to data from the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC), wastewater analysis reveals that residents of Western Australia are consuming approximately 70 doses of methamphetamine per 1,000 people each day—significantly above the national average. This persistent trend reflects a growing public health crisis. Two towns in Australia were in for a rude shock when tests showed Naegleria fowleri, nicknamed the "brain-eating amoeba", was swimming in the treated drinking water supplied to their area. Notably, it is one of the most dangerous microorganisms and causes a fatal infection that is almost certain to kill the patient. The towns are located in the state of Queensland, and the deadly bug was noticed when the drinking water was tested. A public health notice has been issued to both Charleville and Augathella. "Murweh Shire Council is advising residents and visitors to Charleville and Augathella that Naegleria fowleri, a rare but potentially harmful organism, has recently been detected in the town water supplies," the health notice stated. It is mostly found in warm, untreated freshwater and soil, and enters the body while swimming in lakes. Experts say that drinking contaminated water or washing clothes in it cannot infect a person. A Queensland Health spokesperson said, "There is minimal risk to the community as long as people don't allow water to go up their nose when bathing, showering or washing their face." It travels through the nasal passage and breaks through the bony cribriform plate, the point that separates the brain and the nose. From here, it reaches the olfactory bulb and then attacks the brain, feeding on cells. The feeding frenzy triggers oxidative stress and leads to the cells exploding. The immune system is activated, leading to extreme inflammation. Severe meningitis, encephalitis or oedema can set in, leading to death within seven to 10 days.Earlier this year, a 71-year-old woman in Texas died after she used a nasal irrigation device, resulting in the brain-eating amoeba entering her brain. She had used tap water that came from a recreational vehicle.

It is mostly found in warm, untreated freshwater and soil, and enters the body while swimming in lakes. Experts say that drinking contaminated water or washing clothes in it cannot infect a person. A Queensland Health spokesperson said, "There is minimal risk to the community as long as people don't allow water to go up their nose when bathing, showering or washing their face." It is known as the "brain-eating" amoeba because it literally feeds on the human brain after entering the body. It travels through the nasal passage and breaks through the bony cribriform plate, the point that separates the brain and the nose. From here, it reaches the olfactory bulb and then attacks the brain, feeding on cells. The feeding frenzy triggers oxidative stress and leads to the cells exploding. The immune system is activated, leading to extreme inflammation. Severe meningitis, encephalitis or oedema can set in, leading to death within seven to 10 days. Earlier this year, a 71-year-old woman in Texas died after she used a nasal irrigation device, resulting in the brain-eating amoeba entering her brain. She had used tap water that came from a recreational vehicle.

Naegleria fowleri, the ‘brain-eating amoeba’, has been found in treated drinking water in two Australian towns. A test revealed the presence of the deadly microorganism. Officials have issued a public notice about it and said whether it could affect the residents.

Scientists have discovered an ancient whale species that lived in Australia around 26 million years ago. Fossils of this whale were found along Victoria’s Surf Coast by Ross Dullard, who stumbled upon the fossils in 2019. It was a partial skull fossil with attached ear bone, and it offers an insight into how ancient marine mammals evolved. The creature was very different from the whales seen today, with large eyes and sharp teeth that it used for hunting. The whale species has been named Janjucetus dullardi and is one of the earliest cousins of modern whales. According to Museums Victoria Research Institute, the creature was a far cry from today's whales. They were shorter to help them hunt for prey easily using their sharp tooth. The predator was only about as large as a dolphin and moved quickly. The study was published in the journal Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society. Also Read: Ghostly silence from blue whales is an ominous sign for the world
Tiny whales with eyes the size of tennis balls
Ruairidh Duncan, lead author of the study, said that they were "little whales with big eyes and a mouth full of sharp, slicing teeth." Millions of years ago, Pangea broke apart to form seven continents. Now, the continents are drifting together to form a new supercontinent named Amasia - Asia, Australia and America. Australia is moving upwards; in fact, it never stopped moving. A collision is imminent.

Millions of years ago, Pangea broke apart to form seven continents. Now, the continents are drifting together to form a new supercontinent named Amasia - Asia, Australia and America. Australia is moving upwards; in fact, it never stopped moving. A collision is imminent.

A new supercontinent: Australia is drifting upwards and will crash right into us

Scientists have flagged that in the coming years, two continents - Asia and Australia - will crash into each other, creating a new supercontinent. This is not a theoretical phenomenon, and the continent is already on the move. According to Curtin University’s Professor Zheng-Xiang Li, Australia is moving northward at a rate of approximately 7 centimetres each year. This would have a huge impact on the planet, affecting the ecological system, geography and weather patterns. Earthquakes will shape the world, and volcanoes will erupt, with lava covering large landmasses. Over millions of years, it would collide with Asia, creating a new supercontinent, which already has a name. Australian wildlife would also no longer remain the same, as its animals that have evolved in isolation will be threatened by other predators. Li says that this motion is not unexpected and is the result of tectonic plate motion. Ever since Australia separated from Antarctica about 80 million years ago, it has not stopped and continues to move upwards. Pretty soon, it will collide with Southeast Asia, and several geological forces will come into play. It would not be a peaceful transition, but a violent event that will change the face of the Earth. Also Read: Antarctica has fallen! The continents today were once part of Pangea, a supercontinent that existed around 335 to 175 million years ago. Approximately 200 million years ago, it started breaking up, and different masses of land were set in motion. That's how we got the seven continents and five oceans we know of today. Li says this process continues over the lifetime of Earth, as the planet "evolves in a cyclic pattern, where the continents move apart and now are moving back together."Also Read: 425 volcanoes, two years: Ring of Fire can become a blazing string of lava very soonAlso Read: Scientist reveals HOW and WHEN alien 'mothership' could attack Earth, warns governments to take action
A new ring of fire will form with Amasia
Even though Australia is moving only about seven centimetres a year, when calculated over millions of years, it amounts to massive proportions. When it finally smashes into Asia, the result will be a new continent named Amasia. Yes, this is how sure geologists are of this happening that they already have a name for it. When this happens, a new “ring of fire” will be formed around the new supercontinent, Li says. The new borders from the collision will witness intense volcanic activity. While the borders will be burning, the environment inside will be very different from what it is today. Ecosystems will change, and the climate will also be very different, as vast areas will become dry. The wildlife found exclusively in Australia also faces a threat, as koalas, kangaroos, wombats, and platypus will come face to face with predators they have never had to stave off.

One of the continents on Earth is moving, drifting towards another and will collide with it. This would lead to the formation of a new supercontinent, which would lead to chaos everywhere. Earthquakes will be triggered and volcanoes will erupt when the violence ensues.

Australians saw a meteor streaking through the sky on Sunday night, with some reporting that they felt the ground shake. Residents of the state of Victoria witnessed the fireball in regions like Bendigo, Ballarat and the western areas of Melbourne. The meteor was captured on dashcams and CCTVs at around 8 pm. People on social media reported that there was some movement in the ground following the meteor strike.
Was meteor in Australia linked to meteor shower?
This comes as the Perseids meteor shower peaks in the night sky. However, those familiar with such space rocks do not think that the two events are related. Astronomer Perry Vlahos told The Age that it seems to be a "sporadic meteor", one with a non-specific origin. Sunday night's fireball was neither linked to the Perseids nor the Alpha Capricornids, he added. Also, "the point the meteors appear to radiate out from never rises above the horizon for us at the latitude of Victoria," Vlahos said. Hence, it could not have originated from the meteor showers. Meanwhile, Amateur astronomer David Finlay told ABC that the meteor was quite large, as shown by the sonic boom it generated, a meteor event that is rare in Australia. A listener named Justin called into the ABC Radio Melbourne show Talkback and reported that he saw the object in Ballarat, and it was so bright that he "thought it was a plane crash." He added, "It slowly moved across, and then it just went straight, fast down to wherever it went." Another listener said the thumping felt like an explosion, and the " house seemed to lift up and drop down again."
