<p>Nearly three days after a fire incident caused the company to down shutters on the facility, Pegatron on Wednesday announced production had resumed at its&nbsp;Chennai facility in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to a <em>Reuters </em>report, citing government sources, manufacturing had resumed in a phased manner at the facility.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Multiple reports have claimed that the fire was sparked by a short-circuit after an electrical switch was left on, following testing of the devices as they were being put together.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After the incident, the Taiwanese firm&nbsp;confirmed "there was a spark incident" which was under control, adding that the&nbsp;incident did "not have significant financial or operational impact" for the company.</p>

<p>"There are no injuries, no casualties nor damage to other assets. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by (the) relevant authority," Pegatron said.</p>

<p>Initial reports stated that Pegatron had cancelled two shifts on Monday. However, the company was forced to cancel shifts on the next two subsequent days as well.</p>

<p>It is understood that the factory works round-the-clock from Monday to Saturday with a scheduled off on Sundays. The factory's 24-hour workday is split into three shifts- A (6 am-2 pm), B (2 pm-10 pm) and C (10 pm-6 am).</p>

<p>Situated within the Mahindra World City in Chengalpattu district (nearly 60 km from the capital city of Chennai) of Tamil Nadu, the Pegatron facility is capable of assembling almost 20,000 iPhones per day.</p>

<p>The models being assembled here are Apple iPhone 14 Plus and 15 Plus. Considering the average cost of these models to be $1000, the impact of not operating for a day meant that $20 million worth of phones were not being produced.&nbsp;</p>

It's been two days since the blaze took place at an Apple iPhone Assembly factory in Southern India and as of today, production has not been started after Sunday night.

<p>The blaze, resultant smoke and related damage at the Apple iPhone assembly facility run by Taiwanese firm Pegatron is likely to halt assembly operations at the plant for at least a week, sources told WION.</p>

<p>Situated within the Mahindra World City in Chengalpattu district (nearly 60 km from the capital city of Chennai) of Tamil Nadu, the Pegatron facility is capable of assembling almost 20,000 iPhones per day.</p>

<p>The models being assembled here are Apple iPhone 14 Plus and 15 Plus. Considering the average cost of these models to be $1000, the impact of not operating for a day would mean that $20 million worth of phones are not being produced.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The blaze that began on Sunday night is learnt to have been put out in a few hours after the incident was reported. Videos of the incident showed multiple fire tenders and an ambulance at the Pegatron facility.</p>

<p>Personnel working at Pegatron told WION that there are more than 9,000 of them involved in iPhone assembly at the factory and that production activity had not been carried out on Monday. It is understood that the factory works round-the-clock from Monday to Saturday with a schedule off on Sundays. The factory's 24-hour workday is split into three shifts- A (6 am-2 pm), B (2 pm-10 pm) and C (10 pm-6 am).</p>

<p>Nearly 1,000 personnel are learnt to have reported for work at the facility on Tuesday morning. However, the assembly operations were not carried out as the damage assessment and cleaning are underway at the facility.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The blaze began at one assembly hall and from there the smoke spread to the other two assembly halls. Some of the high-tech, imported machinery have also sustained damaged," WION has learnt.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Owing to the above factors, it is said that the resumption of assembly operations could take a week or longer.</p>

<p>When requested for an official response, Pegatron replied to WION: "At the company's factory in Chennai, India, on the evening of the 24th local time, there was a spark incident, which is currently under control. There are no injuries, no casualties nor damage to other assets. The cause of accident is currently under investigations by relevant authority, and the incident does not have significant financial or operational impact to Pegatron Corporation."</p>

Considering the average cost of these models to be $1000, the impact of not operating for a day would mean that $20 million worth of phones are not being produced. The blaze that began on Sunday night is learnt to have been put out in a few hours after the incident was reported. Videos of the incident showed multiple fire tenders and an ambulance at the Pegatron facility. Personnel working at Pegatron told WION that there are more than 9,000 of them involved in iPhone assembly at the factory and that production activity had not been carried out on Monday. It is understood that the factory works round-the-clock from Monday to Saturday with a schedule off on Sundays. The factory's 24-hour workday is split into three shifts- A (6 am-2 pm), B (2 pm-10 pm) and C (10 pm-6 am). Nearly 1,000 personnel are learnt to have reported for work at the facility on Tuesday morning. <p>According to David Klink, senior equities analyst at Huntington Private Bank, "Microsoft has more of what the market wants right now, and given where we stand on the pair's growth prospects, we wouldn't be surprised to see it overtake Apple," as reported by Bloomberg.</p>

<p>"We have more faith in Microsoft’s margins, while the cloud and AI are growth areas that can stand the test of time over a decade. We don’t know if the iPhone can do the same," he stated. He also added, given Apple's services business, "it's difficult to make a bear case for them, but the bull case clearly favours Microsoft."</p>

<p>Microsoft last surpassed Apple in size in November 2021. Despite declining from a height of around $3.1 trillion, Apple's market capitalization is still more than Microsoft's, which is close to $2.4 trillion. The difference between Apple and Microsoft has shrunk to about $200 billion at one point last week as Microsoft shares have maintained constant this month despite the decline in Apple shares.</p>

<p>On Wall Street, Microsoft is frequently preferred over Apple. The company's recommendation consensus, which serves as a proxy for its buy, hold, and sell rating ratio, is significantly higher than Apple's. Almost 90 per cent of Microsoft experts favour buying the stock, compared to only 2/3 of Apple analysts.</p>

<p>Apple has experienced negative sales growth for three consecutive quarters, and if that trend continues—as analysts predict—it would have done so for the longest time in twenty years. According to statistics gathered by Bloomberg, while that's anticipated to change for the better in Apple's fiscal year 2024 and continue expanding in the following two years, the rate isn't anticipated to be quite as robust as that of Microsoft.</p>

<p>The maker of the iPhone is "looking like the old IBM," Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi wrote. IBM Corporation's "strength in mainframes and associated account control once seemed unassailable," Sacconaghi said, cautioning that "Apple's key risks are that iPhone is replaced by a new computing/internet access platform."</p>

<p>The sale of iPhone 12 was banned in France after Agence Nationale des Frequences (ANFR), the radiation watchdog, said earlier this week that the smartphone's&nbsp;Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) was higher than legally allowed.</p>

<p>SAR is a measure of the rate of radiofrequency absorbed by the body of a smartphone user while using the equipment.</p>

<p>The ANFR said that if Apple didn't resolve the issue, it would be forced to order recall of these smartphones.</p>

China: With signs of strong orders, Apple delays high-end iPhone 15 models

<p>Accepting the diktat by the European Union (EU), Apple on Tuesday (September 12) during its annual 'Wonderlust' event, announced that its new iPhone lineup was returning to&nbsp;a universal charging port.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"USB-C has become a universally accepted standard. So we're bringing USB-C to iPhone 15," said Kaiann Drance, Apple's vice president of iPhone Marketing&nbsp;at a launch event.</p>

<p>"Now the same cable can charge Mac, iPad, iPhone, and even the new AirPods Pro with USB-C on the case," the company added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Up until now, users were charging their iPhones&nbsp;using the company's proprietary&nbsp;Lightning Port technology while Android-based devices used USB-C chargers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, it was in October last year that the EU Parliament&nbsp;approved new rules that make sure a universal charging port is introduced for all electronic gadgets (mobile phones, tablets, cameras, e-readers, earbuds and other devices) by 2024.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The ruling was prompted after complaints from both iPhone and Android about having to switch to different chargers whenever changing devices.</p>

<p>During Tuesday's event, Apple announced the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, sporting 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, which will be powered by the A16 Bionic chip. The main focus once again remained the camera of the new device.</p>

<p>According to Apple executives, the main camera&nbsp;is 48-megapixels and uses pixel binning to combine images into a high-resolution 24-megapixel image. The camera also uses machine learning language to automatically shift the camera into portrait mode.&nbsp;</p>
