Cyclone Michaung which emerged from the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm and is within touching distance of Chennai.&nbsp;

The extreme rainfall by Michaung has brought the city to a standstill. As of the last update, five were reported dead in rain-related incidents in the city.&nbsp;

According to the meteorological department, over the next 24 hours, the cyclone is expected to move towards the Andhra Pradesh coast.

A purported fake letter being attributed to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Sivakumar created a massive furore in the political circles that saw him having a spat with the chief minister of neighbouring Telangana K Chandrashekar Rao.

It all started when the letter dated September 25 started circulating on social media on Sunday (Nov 4) asking the chairman of Foxconn Technology Group—one of the Apple products manufacturing partners—to relocate to Bengaluru from Hyderabad.

The letter said, “On behalf of our government, I propose that you consider relocating the Apple AirPods industry, which you plan to set up in Hyderabad, to&nbsp;Bangalore. This move holds numerous mutual benefits. Not only will it complement the Apple phone manufacturing industry, but it will also leverage the city’s transportation facilities, infrastructure, and available workforce. Being located in Bangalore will also enhance your international recognition.”

“Moreover, Bangalore, when compared to Hyderabad, is known for its safety and has a well-established IT industry with a history spanning 50 years. The city boasts superior logistics capabilities, especially when taking into account the past incidents of communal disturbances in Hyderabad, which pose a potential risk to your business,” it said.

“Furthermore, several international industries in Hyderabad have expressed interest in relocating to Bengaluru. We anticipate forming a friendly government in Telangana soon, assuring that you will encounter no hindrances there. "In mainland China, we set a quarterly record for the September quarter for iPhone," Chief Executive Tim Cook told Reuters in an interview. "We had four out of the top five best-selling smartphones in urban China."

Cook reportedly said that Apple has gained market share in China in July-September, although overall, smartphone market has contracted.

He added that the company expects increase in iPhone sales in the holiday quarter.

According to research firm Canalys, overall smartphone sales in China fell by 3 per cent in July-September as compared to a year earlier. The reason? Consumers bought fewer smartphones in the wake of weak economic recovery.

However, there are signs that the slump is gradually easing.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro would start at USD 1599 and the price of the 16-inch version will start at USD 2499. The iMac desktop with the M3 family of chips will cost USD 1299 upwards.

Apple has seen an uptick in its Mac business. Reuters reported that the company has roughly doubled its market to almost 11 per cent since 2020. In that year, Apple parted ways with Intel and started the use of its own custom-designed chips.

During the launch, Apple said that the M3 Max chip was designed with artificial intelligence (AI) developers in mind. AI developers need a massive amount of memory in order to develop chatbots and other models.

The company said that the use of these new chips would be a first for laptops and desktops which use 3 nanometer manufacturing technology. This, said Apple, will give the chips better performance per watt of electricity used.

Apple did not reveal who was making these chips. However, it is believed among analysts that the chipmaker is Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing. This company uses the same technology to make chips for top iPhone 15 versions.

Apple officials, during the event, compared the performance of the new Macbooks and iMac to older Apple machines that had chips made by Intel. They sought to underline the processing speed customers would get when they upgrade their devices to the latest ones.

The company rolled out the new iOS with patch notes. It found two vulnerabilities: the first was a kernel exploit that could have been exploited by an attacker with local access to the device, and added that it "may have been actively exploited against versions of iOS prior to iOS 16.6."&nbsp;
