It may have opened to good reviews all across but web series 'The Family Man' season 2 is still courting controversy. Now Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader Seeman has demanded a ban on the show which is streaming on OTT platform Amazon Prime Video.

The show was being opposed for misrepresentation by the Tamils on social media ever since Prime revealed the first trailer.

Now addressing a letter to Aparna Purohit, the Head of India Originals at Amazon Prime Video, Seeman warned of massive protest if the screening was not stopped. Read WION's review of the series here.

"If you fail to do so and ignore and disrespect our emotions, we Tamils across the globe may have to lead a massive campaign to boycott all Amazon services, including Prime Video," Seeman reportedly wrote in the letter.

Seeman said the series portrayed the Tamil Eelam freedom struggle "cheaply, intending to tarnish Tamils image."

It is condemnable that the web series has been made to sound like the voice of the Sinhala government which allegedly invaded, dominated and annihilated the homeland of the Tamils, he said.

Such series, he said, should never be screened as it contains "obnoxious content against Tamil and supports pro- Sinhala ideologies or any other race."
'The Family Man' season 2: NKT chief Seeman accuses show of tarnishing image of Lankan Tamils, calls for a ban

Sequels are always tricky to make. Successful films and series have often had a sequel and not all have been as impactful as the first one. In recent years, with the advent of OTT in India, several shows have had subsequent seasons. Most often the makers have been able to present a unique story in the first season but the second season has fallen flat. Season 2 of 'The Family Man' fortunately doesn't fall in that category. Lead by Manoj Bajpayee, who reprises his role as Intelligence officer Srikanth Tiwary, the second season delivers an exciting, engaging thriller and beautifully weaves in the story from the first season throughout 9 episodes.

After a successful yet emotionally daunting stint in Kashmir, Srikant (Bajpayee)takes voluntary retirement from TASC to spend more time with his family. He takes up a regular 9-5 job at an IT firm and tries to be the doting father and loving husband that his family has always desired him to be. While life seems to be perfect, Srikant has major 'FOMO' as his colleague and special agent Talpade(Sharib Hashmi) points out. He always more keen to know what new mission the TASC is on.

The TASC is in fact, assigned on a very dangerous mission that takes some of its decorated officers including Talpade to Chennai. They first land in Chennai to et Subbu, one of the key leaders of the Lankan government in exile. As Subbu is taken for a court hearing, he is killed in a blast and Talpade realises that things are murkier than what appears. As he seeks help from Srikant to get key information about the rebels in Exile, he also asks his friend to join back TASC. Frustrated with his mundane life, and his marriage which at the point of breaking down- Srikant returns to TASC and eventually heads to Chennai to thwart a deadly mission that is being led by one of the most trained commanders of the rebels, Raji (Samantha Akkineni).

The second season takes time to pick up the pace. Much like Srikant's new life, the pace is slow and makers take ample time to set the plot and introduce new characters. But once Srikant joins back TASC, the story steadily picks up the pace and gets its groove back.

There is so much to appreciate about 'The Family Man'. For starters, the writing is top-notch with a very detailed screenplay. With sly humour and lots of thrilling sequences, 'The Family Man' season 2 is engrossing. Much like the first season, the new season has some incredible actors playing key roles. Bajpayee, one of the most gifted actor's of our times, makes his character stand out. With wit and charm- Bajpayee anchors this season as well and one can't have enough of Srikant Tiwary. He dominates almost every frame but it's the scenes with his onscreen son that put a smile on one's face. Playing his confidante and colleague Talpade, Sharib Hashmi is equally good. Srikant and Talpade can go down in history as popular onscreen pair in the coming years.

Actors like Dalip Tahil, Vipin Sharma, Seema Biswas, Priya Mani are all cast well and pitch perfect in their roles.

Making her debut in digital, Telugu star Samantha Akkineni swells as Raji, a Sri Lankan Tamil exiled in Chennai who is out to seek revenge from the Lankan army for killing her family. The star sinks her teeth in the character and delivers a restraint yet a powerful performance and performance some awe-inspiring action stunts. This is a role that Samantha has never done before and it's a delight to watch her play the character with negative shades to it.

Much like the first season, 'The Family Man' season 2 uses local actors and language (in this case Tamil) to play supporting roles giving the series an authentic feel. Samantha's dialogues are mostly in Tamil, while Bajpayee and Hashmi speaking Mumbai Hindi. The Tamil actors only speak in Hindi when they are conversing with North Indian characters in the show-unlike how Bollywood projects regional characters are mere caricatures.

One has to be slightly patient with 'The Family Man' S 2. The first few episodes lack the thrill or the humour that had captivated the audience attention in the first season from the beginning. Be patient because the story gets intriguing mid-way and the narrative piques at the climax.

Does it do justice to the first season? Yes, and weaves in beautifully an intricate, complex tale without taking sides. You can binge-watch 'The Family Man' season 2 on Amazon Prime Video.

Our long-standing relationship with Amazon Prime Video makes us feel more responsible towards every series we do with them. They have been fantastic partners. And we can't wait to create this series!” There will soon be an announcement on the surprise cast featured in the series.

Shahid Kapoor to make his debut on OTT with a series created by Raj and DK

With lockdown being one of the most discussed topics of the year, it's not surprising to see many upcoming content being centered around it. The latest addition being Amazon Prime Video's 'Unpaused', an anthology of 5 short films showing various experiences people had during these unusual times. These films have been directed by filmmakers Raj & DK, Nikkhil Advani, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Avinash Arun and Nitya Mehra.

In a candid conversation with WION Geetika Vidya Ohlyan and Lillete Dubey, who star in two of the short films in 'Unpaused' speak about their experience of shooting during the pandemic, online promotions, and much more.

How has it been adjusting to the new normal, with promotions for your film being held online?

Geetika Vidya Ohlyan: I am not a native of any of the metropolitans, I have been born and brought up in Haryana and it irked me always that for every little thing, any non-metropolitan person is expected to leave the culture, the family and everything behind and be there. So, it becomes a very huge choice. You either choose this world or that world.

I feel one of the blessings that has come in the form of an alternative because of COVID is that people are getting to be efficient with their energy, with their presence and with their time. I have always seen the promotions of any sort of project on screen, however, to make that possible, people would really dress up, travel and be at a particular place. So, they would invest a disproportionate amount of time and efforts would go into something which is promotions. Today I feel content that I am home, I choose some time and invest my energy.

We can choose what is human contact important for. So, for something like a promotional event I can not imagine how people would move from one studio to another or how they would go from one place to another, to be doing what I am doing sitting home.

Lillete Dubey: For the past 9 months, we have been doing so much stuff online that it is not so strange anymore. If this had happened last year, we would have found it very odd. But one has been doing talks, one has been doing interviews, one has been listening to so much stuff online. So, I think if a technically challenged dinosaur like me has been able to do some of that, I think we have all acclimatized to a new way of communication.

Tell us about more your respective short films and the characters you played?

Geetika Vidya Ohlyan: 'Vishaanu' is a peep into the hearts of individuals who to me are almost de-humanized, the migrant laborers. We as artists have enough resources to pamper and take care our own selves but there is a large section that is so deprived of basic necessities that I feel they are robbed of their humanity. This story looks into the human aspect of that huge mass that we saw suffering.

When I played Seema, there was so much that went inside me, which I tried to convey through my eyes. I am really looking forward to the audience watching this.

Lillete Dubey: My character in the film 'Rat-A-Tat' is someone who is very close to my age. She is very cut off from the world, has no time for anything except her own life. Someone with her own system and way of living, which gets even more exaggerated obviously during the lockdown. Then a small incident with a neighbor, a girl who has come from a very small town of Maharastra has a great significance for this character and how she changes during the film.

It’s just a 20-22 minutes film, but the character's journey was lovely for me. From where she started to where she ultimately reached through this little relationship.

How was the shooting experience in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic?

Geetika Vidya Ohlyan: There was a point in which we understood, that the state in which our nation is in and the place where our country stands as compared to other nations, our number will come very late to get a medicine. And till then we will not be getting money delivered to our homes. So, we will have to step out.

We can not afford to get paranoid. But we also couldn't think that nothing is happening. Yes, something is happening. We had to understand it and then handle the situation. We had to take care of each other and step out.

Lillete Dubey: Though I am in that bracket where everyone was telling me that 'senior citizens' should not go outside and my family and friends were all freaking out. I said look, I can not live in a bubble for the rest of my life. I will be cautious, I will be safe, I will wear the mask. I feel like in this whole thing, we have to be very careful, be cautious but we can not stop living. We simply can’t do that. In fact, I think I was in great spirits and so happy to hit a set, start shooting and performing and being a part of something creative and fulfilling again.

I haven’t been apprehensive after that, I have done recordings, I have shot more and I really haven’t been scared at all. I think you just have to mentally be careful and that’s all.

What is your next venture?

Lillete Dubey: I am going to be doing a play, Shobha De has written a book called 'Lockdown Liaisons', which are 24 shorts stories on the lockdown, including a migrant story. I am choosing 5 out of those and doing them as monologues.

What makes 'Unpaused' unique?

Geetika Vidya Ohlyan: 'Unpaused' is for people to see different experiences that people had, different states of different individuals of different strata. So it will be reassuring, they will find identifiable moments.

Lillete Dubey: I think for me doing the film was very important because it is about a period in our collective human history that will be recorded. People are going to relate to it enormously because every one of us, all around the world will relate to some aspect of it, whether romance went out of their lives, whether they found a new friendship, whether the strangest relationship developed, whatever it may be. But it will touch somewhere.

What is art finally, it is the shared human experience, so that is what the film is about, our shared experience of the lockdown?

'Unpaused' will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video from December 18.

Every filmmaker in the Hindi film industry has at some point in his career thought of a film with Amitabh Bachchan in the lead. Over the years, Bachchan has played characters out of his comfort zone often- making each of these films memorable. But in every character that he plays, his looming star presence tends to peak out. You may enjoy watching him playing a Bhaskar Banerjee in 'Piku' or as Auro in 'Paa' but you know that its Amitabh Bachchan playing a character. In filmmaker Shoojit Sircar's 'Gulabo Sitabo' which premiers on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, the actor sheds his Bachchan-ess and transforms into Mirza, a character that Hindi cinema hasn't witnessed so far.

Mirza is 78, walks with a stoop, and lives in Lucknow's Fatima Mahal, a crumbling haveli that has left its glorious days far behind and which is now inhabited by the owners and numerous tenants who keep the dilapidated place bustling. Mirza's wife Begum(Farrukh Jafar) is the owner and he merely acts as a caretaker at the beginning of the film, but as the story progresses you realise he is a greedy man, for whom the haveli has for long been the only motivation to live. His hindrances in becoming the sole owner are many- first his wife, then his tenant Bankey(Ayushmann Khurrana) who lives with his mother and three sisters and hasn't paid the meager rent of Rs 30 for months. Mirza naturally wants both out of his life and haveli and finds himself squabbling over money with Bankey all day long.

When the film begins it appears to be a story about an uncanny pair- who cannot stand the sight of each other and are at loggerheads at all times. But an hour into the film, you realise it is much more than just about these two individuals. It's a story of greed, of the futility to materialistic needs, of upmanship and of a haveli that everyone wants a piece of. While Mirza calls in a lawyer Christopher Clarke(Bijendra Kala) to get rid of his tenants, Bankey befriends a govt official Shukla (Vijay Raaz) who introduces himself as 'archeology' to trade the haveli for a LIG flat. With multiple players eyeing the peeling, worn off haveli- things naturally get chaotic and unintentionally funny.

Writer Juhi Chaturvedi is known for her nuanced screenplay. She and Sircar have given us films like 'Piku', 'Vicky Donor' and 'October' in the past. In 'Gulabo Sitabo', she keeps the humour sly and never in your face. A lot of the funny moments are situational and come in one-liners in the local dialect. You get a sense of how sweetly the insults are thrown at people in typically Lucknawi andaaz as Mirza and Bankey argue like a married couple with empty threats and hilarious insults, like when Mirza out of disgust calls Bankey 'Dimak kahi ke! (You are a termite').

Bachchan and Khurrana's scenes are crackling. It isn't easy to stand your own in front of Bachchan, but Khurrana matches the superstar in every frame. The two actors play similar characters- both greedy, sullen and upset with life in general, willing to fight and give each other empty threats. Bachchan's character arc is greater and his scope of acting is more but Khurrana still manages to leave an impression. He is not playing his usual role of a common man heroically rising to the occasion. In 'Gulabo Sitabo', Khurrana is clearly out of his comfort zone as a man who is never happy with anything in life, is insecure about his lack of education and awareness, hates his job, and doesn't even get love from his girlfriend who at one point admits she wouldn't be with him if she knew he was poor beforehand.

Gulabo Sitabo' brings Ayushmann Khurrana back to UP for the fifth consecutive time

In a film that has two men playing the leading characters, Chaturvedi also makes the women characters memorable. Be it Bankey's sister Guddo(Srishti Srivastava), or Begum (Farrukh Jafar) or even Bankey's weary girlfriend, the women have a bigger say in matters than the two men and are strong-willed individuals. Srivastav managed to make heads turn in her brief role in 'Gully Boy' and has been a known face on internet for a while. As the street smart Guddo, she is effective and impressive.

Farrukh Jafar as Begum is outstanding. She shines in her scenes, with limited dialogues but just the right amount of spunk and it is a delight to watch her. The scene where she and Mirza discuss her family is perhaps the high point of the film. So well enacted by both the actors- who are confident of their talent.

The film though belongs to Bachchan. Hiding behind a prosthetic nose, scarf, and a white goatee, Bachchan plays the ever conniving, slightly helpless, greedy Mirza with perfection. His walk, the way he makes his eyes light up every time he plots a new plan to outdo Bankey and his overall demeanor of a man who may physically be crumbling but is relentless in his pursuit- Bachchan gives a masterclass in acting. It's a pure delight to watch the man on screen.

Avik Mukhopadhyay, who has collaborated with Sircar previously captures Lucknow and the dilapidated haveli beautifully in his frame. The city and the haveli are important characters of the film, highlighting the lost glory of a wonderful era. Shantanu Moitra's background music is haunting and beautiful.

This is not Juhi Chaturvedi's best work. While she aces with her witty lines, her screenplay meanders. My only problem with the film was that it takes time to establish the plot. Its pace is leisurely and at the 2 hours runtime, the film appears a bit stretched. Sircar ultimately relies on his performers to narrate a layered satire and they do not disappoint.

The title 'Gulabo Sitabo' is based on popular folklore of two women by the same name who keep fighting over petty issues much like the two leads. Khurrana and Bachchan are great. So is the supporting cast that includes Raaz and Kala play the quintessential small-town govt officers to the hilt. The film though can be best enjoyed if you are aware of Lucknow or any other similar city in North India functions. The nuances are typical of a city that for centuries has been steeped in culture and now struggles to form a modern identity.

Sircar's film is the first major Bollywood film to have opted for the digital route amid the pandemic. There is naturally a lot of curiosity around it. One can't help but wonder how the film would have been received had it got a theatrical release because it doesn't offer a universal palate- instead, it unravels with multiple subtext and sly humour.

Watching the rich go on with their lives in over dramatic scenarios in opulent sets that they call homes is something that we Indians are used to. For decades, Ekta Kapoor and the likes have been churning out TV shows that have large Indian business families dealing with problems in their opulent homes wearing outlandish costumes and makeup at all times of the day. So what makes Zoya Akhtar's latest web series for Amazon Prime -'Made In Heaven' stand out?

It ticks a few boxes that make for a hit TV show. It talks of the rich business families, the show has larger than life, luxurious sets and an ensemble cast. But the show, streaming now on Amazon Prime, goes beyond the glamour and the glitz and peeps right into the dysfunctionality that lies in the lives of the urban rich. Where on the surface everything looks picture perfect but when you look closely you realise that everyone is trying to hide a deep, dark secret and no one is purely black or white.

The show centers around friends and partners Karan (Arjun Mathur) and Tara Khanna (Sobhita Dhulipala) who run a wedding planning company called 'Made In Heaven'. Tara is a trophy wife-hailing from a lower-middle class family, she has earned love and respectability in the society thanks to her husband, Adil (Jim Sarbh) a young business tycoon. While Tara has got all the comforts in the world, her past makes her insecure about her present life and she is always on the edge because of it. Kabir, meanwhile, is a closet gay, who has his set of problems to deal with. And while they trudge around with their personal problems, ( which are in plenty), they together make their company flourish- organising high profile weddings and on the way dealing with extraordinary situations.

The series has 9 episodes, each an hour long where Kabir and Tara meet new clients and in turn deal with unexpected situations. Written by Alankrita Srivastava and created by Akhtar and Reema Kagti- the episodes deal with very pertinent problems- from dowry to class divide to honour killing and homosexuality.

In fact, 'Made In Heaven' is perhaps the first show that talks about the LGBTQ community with so much ease. The lead character is gay who has so much going on in his life. He has to come out to his parents, he needs to answer the prying landlord and he has to bury his turbulent past. For a change, an Indian show doesn't show a gay man with stereotypical effeminate traits and tries to highlight the various complexities the gay community has to deal with even in urban areas where p[eople may claim to be open and liberal yet squirm talking about homosexuality.

Since it's created by Zoya Akhtar, several prominent stars play pivotal cameos in the series. These actors, together with the lead cast that comprises of Kalki Koechlin, Jim Sarbh, Shashank Arora and Shivani Raghuvanshi along with Dhulipala and Mathur deliver compelling performances - making the show very engaging and real.

There are of course some drawbacks. It's a show about two wedding planners but often they turn into crusaders dealing with all the issues that Indian society is plagued with. The show is supposed to be based in Delhi yet the characters, the look - the ambiance looks and feels like Mumbai. There is also a narration at the end of each episode by Arora's character which is unnecessary and preachy and spoils the experience of viewing.

Despite the issues, I'd say 'Made In Heaven' makes for a good watch. It's entertaining- look out for the episode that features 'Fukrey' actors Pulkit Samrat and Manjot Singh- mounted on a lavish scale which pleases the eye and calls out the issues that plague our urban society till date. It tones down the melodrama to a great extent and shows us that the superficial 'heaven' that people painstakingly create is not so 'safe' or perfect all the time.

'Made In Heaven' review: Finally, a series that shows the dysfunctionality of urban India

Singer Rihanna is a boss babe and there's no doubt about it! But there are days when she's not feeling like herself and the star just revealed how she stays confident during her worst days. A news agency spoke to Rihanna during the New York Fashion Week and asked the singer the secret behind staying confident.

When quizzed about what she does on days when she's not feeling good about herself, Rihanna said, "Pretend. I mean, it's either that or cry myself to sleep. Who wants to do that? You wake up with puffy eyes the next day, it's a waste of tears.

"If that trick works for the singer, just pretend to be confident in everything and anything that you do, maybe it works for you too. Speaking about her new music, the 31-year-old singer told a magazine, "Y' all will have to wait, am so sorry." Rihanna showcased her Savage X Fenty's latest lingerie collection recently during the New York Fashion Week.

Fans of the star will have to wait until September 20 to see the collection on Amazon Prime Video. At the big fashion night, the singer turned heads dressed in a shimmery turquoise dress that accentuated her body perfectly.

She rounded off her look with jewel-adorned sunglasses, a red-hot lip, and Tiffany blue strappy sandals. During her Savage x Fenty runway, the 31-year-old star took to the stage for the star-studded audience, which included celebrities like Kehlani, Big Sean, Kacey Musgraves and many more. However, Rihanna confessed that she was a bit nervous about her performance. "I was literally about to throw up and I've never said that in my life, because I don't say that unless I mean it. But I was walking off the stage like motions to throwing up. I was so nervous, I was so nervous," she shared.

She continued, "Tonight was phenomenal, everyone is so great. This was a great show. I didn't even realise that people would be intimidated by the environment. I just thought these people would come in and be like, 'Fine' and I'm the one that's nervous but everyone felt the presence of the room.

I was so appreciative of everyone being apart of it. "Meanwhile, her fans are eagerly waiting for new music from the singer. Rihanna is busy dabbling in multiple projects which are keeping her schedule jam-packed. Rihanna`s last album titled 'Anti' came out in 2016.
