For me, it was about making the best film in every episode, treating each episode as important as the next to tell the whole story.”</p>

Trolls attack Aamir Khan for playing with daughter, posting food pictures during Ramzan

<p>Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani today said he had offered the part of Sunil Dutt to Aamir Khan for the<a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/entertainment-sanju-trailer-ranbir-kapoor-plays-many-shades-of-sanjay-dutt-in-rajkumar-hiranis-film--140941"> 'Sanju'&nbsp;biopic</a> but the superstar was reluctant to play an older character after 'Dangal'.</p>

<p>Khan recently revealed that he was offered the role of Sunil Dutt in the biopic, but he was more keen to play the lead role, which was already with Ranbir Kapoor.</p>

<p>When asked about this, Hirani said,?"Aamir is a friend and whenever I write a script, I narrate it to him to get a reaction. I had narrated this to him as well, not with the intention of casting him to play any role (but because) he reacts very interestingly to the script. Out of greed, I asked him if he would play Sunil Dutt's role."</p>

<p>The director said Aamir turned down the role but not without giving it some thought.</p>

<p>"He took it seriously and gave it a thought and said let's meet next week. When I met him, he showed me 'Dangal' and said 'I am already playing an older role, if my next film after this is again an older role, people will stop giving me young man's role', which was a valid argument," the director told reporters at the trailer launch of the biopic.</p>

<p>The entire star cast of the film was present at the trailer launch.</p>

<p>Ranbir plays the titular role in 'Sanju'&nbsp;which features Paresh Rawal as Sunil Dutt, Sonam Kapoor as one of the girlfriends of Dutt, Dia Mirza as his wife Manyata, Manisha Koirala as his mother Nargis and Vicky Kaushal as his friend.</p>

<p>The movie also features Anushka Sharma, and Hirani revealed that she is actually enacting him and co-writer Abhijat Joshi.</p>

<p>"Anushka is playing the role of me and Abhijat. She is playing a biographer from London who comes here and Sanju wants her to write a book on him but she's reluctant. When he was narrating his story to us, even we were wondering if we should do it or not.</p>

<p>"Sometimes we used to sit with policemen, lawyers, family. We were in two minds whether to do it or not. So she is actually playing us, but not a filmmaker, a biographer," Hirani said.</p>

<p>At the launch, Paresh Rawal revealed that he had once received a birthday letter from Sunil Dutt in 2005 out of the blue and he still has the letter.</p>

<p>"Usually, we discard birthday letters after a while but that particular letter stayed in my drawer. This is a wonderful connection. I think I was meant to play Dutt sahab's role," Rawal said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Koirala, who plays Nargis Dutt, said when her film 'Bombay' had released, Sunil Dutt sent her a letter saying 'You remind me of Nargis Duttji'.</p>

<p>"I really take that as a huge compliment," Koirala said.</p>

<p>The film is scheduled to release on June 29.</p>

<p>T-series honcho Bhushan Kumar is now moving ahead with his plans to make a biopic on late label owner Gulshan Kumar titled <em>Mogul</em> -- who was shot dead in August 1997 for allegedly refusing to pay protection money to Dawood Ibrahim’s gang.</p>

<p>In a major news development, Indian actor Aamir Khan has come on board as a co-producer of the film along with leading music label T-series.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Aamir Khan made the announcement to join the team at an event on May 23.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier, Akshay Kumar was roped in to play the music company magnate in <em>Mogul</em> but then he walked out owing to “creative differences” with the makers. As soon as Akshay walked out, T-series honcho Bhushan Kumar said that he would get a “bigger” actor than him. Khan, although will only be producing not acting in the film.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The film will be helmed by Subhash Kapoor of <em>Jolly LLB</em> fame.&nbsp;</p>

<p>His box office credentials are unmatched today but Aamir Khan says despite facing initial scepticism of the industry people, he has always been someone who believed in experimenting with film roles.</p>

<p>The actor, who has completed 30 years in Bollywood, walked down the memory lane to reflect on the film choices that set him apart from the crowd and made him feel like a 'lone ranger'.</p>

<p>"When I came into the industry, I was a minority, I was a lone ranger, who was trying to do films that I believed in, but the market did not believe in it and a host of people also did not believe in it," Aamir said in a group interview.</p>

<p>With hits such as "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak", "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander", "Baazi", "Earth", "Sarfarosh", "Lagaan" and "Dangal", Aamir has come to be known as one of the most bankable stars in cinema today but the actor said it has not been an easy ride to stardom.</p>

<p>"I was constantly swimming against the tide to do the films I believed in. Now the tide has changed. So the films that I believed in then and no one else did, have actually become more mainstream today."</p>

<p>Aamir, 53, believes the audiences' sensibilities are changing and if "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander" would have released today, it had better chances at the ticket window.</p>

<p>Asked if he thinks the risk has paid off now, he said, "I don't know if I can say that, I was not doing it for a pay-off, I was just doing it. I was not concerned if it will pay-off or not, my focus was to do films that I believed in. When I do a film like 'Talaash', I know it is not going to be the biggest hit of the year but I want to do it."</p>

<p>The actor has bridged the gap between commercial and content-driven cinema but insisted he is not searching for social content in a film.</p>

<p>"I am not setting out for what the next social issue. I have had a mixed range of films like ''Delhi Belly'', ''Thugs of Hindostan'', ''Dangal'', etc, I am getting drawn to stories which I like."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The actor said he reacts to a script like an audience member.</p>

<p>"It has to be something that excites me, engages me, sometimes it might have a message, sometimes it might not. I don't think whether it is commercial or not. I am not able to think like that. I feel my cinema should be good and I want it to be loved by as many people."</p>

<p>He became a star overnight with success of his debut film as the lead actor in "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak" in 1988 and realised he had become famous when he could no longer use the public transport. In 1973, Aamir appeared as a child actor in his uncle Nasir Hussain's film "Yaadon Ki Baaraat".</p>

<p>"The first time I sensed I had become popular was after ''Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak''. It was quite mad. I did a successful film, but I didn't have the money to buy a car. I used to travel by autorickshaw, bus or a train but after a point, I couldn't," he said.</p>

<p>"I used to ask my uncle, 'Can I borrow your car? I have to go somewhere... There are just people everywhere I go'," he added.</p>

The actor said he once ended up spending a night under the statue of Mahatma Gandhi with Sunil Dutt and three other stalwarts of the industry in 1993, during the Mumbai riots.<br />

"When Mumbai riots happened in 1993, the film industry took out a delegation to the chief minister saying bring in the Army, do what you had to do to stop the riots. Around 30 to 40 people had driven to the CM office.&nbsp;<br />

"... We decided we will sit near Mahatma Gandhi's statue near Mantralaya and will protest in open (to) stop the riots and we won't get up until violence stops. We took turns. Five people including me, Dutt sahab, Yash Chopra ji, Johnny Walker and a producer were there on the first night of protest."<br />

Calling the time spent with the legends as memorable, the'Dangal' star said they ended up sharing stories about their careers.<br />
<br />
"I was listening to the stories (about the) career of Dutt sahab, Yash ji and Johnny Walker... It was a wonderful time. It was a memorable night for me under the statue. By the next evening, the CM took some action and things went to normal."<br />

The actor, who has completed 30 years in Hindi cinema, is busy working on his next big release 'Thugs of Hindostan', scheduled to arrive in theatres in December.&nbsp;<br />

But the actor who rules the box office with each of his films states he doesn't charge remuneration for his films. On Wednesday, as Aamir turned 53, the actor addressed the media at his residence and stated if his films do well, he earns money and if they fail, he suffers losses. "Actually, I don't charge a fee. It has been years since I have stopped charging a fee. If my film earns less, I earn less and if my film makes more money, I make more money," the actor told reporters while discussing whether stars should take a pay cut. Aamir had a great year with the extraordinary success of Dangal in China market, which was followed by an equally impressive box office run of Secret Superstar. The actor is currently shooting for Thugs of Hindostan in Jodhpur and flew to Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon to be with his family. "We had a wonderful year in terms of success of Secret Superstar. Also this year, I had the privileged of working with Mr Amitabh Bachchan on Thugs of Hindostan," he said. "I hope the work that we are doing on Thugs of Hindostan turns out well and people like the film upon its release. As I am working with Amitji for the first time, I hope it turns out to be the most memorable film," he added. "There are a number of things I am working on and as soon as I am clear about what I am doing... I will tell you," he said. Aamir had then said, &quot;Ideally, the pictures should not have been leaked&quot; and he maintains that the first look will only be put out with an official poster.<br />

The actor was speaking at the success bash of his last production <em>Secret Superstar</em>&nbsp;here last night.</p>

<p>Commenting on the massive success of the film not only in India, but also in China, Aamir said, &quot;Some of my films have released in China and I&#39;ve realised their emotional frequency is very similar to ours. Indian stories touch their hearts. Because our cultures are similar, I feel when we watch their films too we will like them.&quot;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Some of the films, song we still go back to till date will complete 20 years this year. 1998 saw some big blockbusters, including Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Soldier. It is also the year that Bollywood got one its most popular directors Karan Johar, who made his directorial debut with an Indianised version of Archie comics and changed the way we perceive big budget cinema.</p>

<p>A lot has changed in the way we view cinema in the past 20 years, and the films that were loved back them may seem silly now. But more importantly, this list will make you travel back in time and make you feel a tad old.</p>

<p>Kuch Kuch Hota Hai- 1998 saw a young 25 year old director make a film with country&rsquo;s favourite pair Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Back then no one could have envisioned that Kuch Kuch Hota Hai&rsquo;s director Karan Johar will become a brand in himself twenty years down the line. The film also intrioduced us to the marvellous Rani Mukerji- back then simply known as Kajol&rsquo;s cousin. A typical Archie&rsquo;s Comic story, KKHH eventually became a cult film on pyaar, dosti and designer love stories. The film released on 16thOctober, 1998.</p>

<p>Dil Se- When Mani Ratnam&rsquo;s film released on 21 August, 1998, it received mixed response. A love story of an AIR journalist and ULFA terrorist, the film was perhaps ahead of its time. But 20 years down the line, it remains one of the sublime love stories of modern times. It&rsquo;s songs- composed by the amazing AR Rahman- continue to remain popular. The film also gave us two very prominent faces- Preity Zinta and Malaika ARora. Both were known faces in ad world back then but Dil Se marked their entry in Bollywood.</p>

<p>Soldier- Abbas Mustan style masala thriller had Bobby Deol playing an outlaw who is pout to seek revenge for his father&rsquo;s murder. The film featured Preity Zinta as the female lead and Anu Mallik&rsquo;s music was chartbuster. The film released in theatres on 12 October, 1998.</p>

Amidst films that were over the top, melodramatic and larger than life, Kukunoor&rsquo;s Hyderabad Blues was like a breath of fresh air and very real. Mad on shoe string budget, Hyderabad Blues ran nearly for six months in many theatres across Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai. The film released in theatres on 17th July, 1998.</p>

<p>Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai- Deepak Sareen&rsquo;s story of a man (Salman Khan), woman (Twinkle Khanna) and a child (Aditya Narayan) had similaritries with Eric Segal&rsquo;s bestseller Man, Woman and Child. But the story was a bit tweaked to suit Salman Khan&rsquo;s fan base. The film had Khan playing a playboy who comes around when he falls for Khanna&rsquo;s character. The couple&rsquo;s blissful life is disrupted when a young boy comes to claim his rightful place at Khan&rsquo;s house. The film came out in May 1998.</p>

<p>Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya-1998 was the year when the three Khans literally ruled the box office. Khan and Kajol paired up for Sohail Khan&rsquo;s love story Pyaar Kiya to Darna Kya which had Arbaaz Khan playing Kajol&rsquo;s older brother. The film also gave us a shirtless Salman Khan for the first time as he danced to Oh Oh Jane Jana and showed off his perfect abs. The film came out on 27th March.</p>

<p>Pyaar Toh Hona Hi Tha- A Hindi remake of the Hollywood film French Kiss, it had real life couple Ajay Devgn and Kajol playing lovers on screen. The couple got married an year later. A romantic comedy, the film had some memorable music by Jatin Lalit. Kajol practically had a dream year with three of her films being superhit. She even won the Best Actress award that year for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha was a July release.</p>

<p>Satya- Back then, Ram Gopal Verma was credited for making hard hitting, realistic films. Written by Anurag Kashyap and Saurabh Shukla, Satya was hard hitting gangster film and depicted how actually the Mumbai underworld operated. While the titular character was played by Telugu star JD Chakravarthy, it was a certain Manoj Bajpayee who shined in his role as Bhiku Mhatre. Powerful performances by all actors made Satya a cult classic. The film released in theatres on 3 July 1998 and lauded by the critics and masses alike.</p>

Both were known faces in ad world back then but Dil Se marked their entry in Bollywood. × Soldier- Abbas Mustan style masala thriller had Bobby Deol playing an outlaw who is pout to seek revenge for his father’s murder. The film featured Preity Zinta as the female lead and Anu Mallik’s music was chartbuster. The film released in theatres on 12 October, 1998. × Hyderabad Blues- When Nagesh Kukunoor’s made his directorial debut in 1998 with this film, it was one of a kind. Amidst films that were over the top, melodramatic and larger than life, Kukunoor’s Hyderabad Blues was like a breath of fresh air and very real. Mad on shoe string budget, Hyderabad Blues ran nearly for six months in many theatres across Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai. The film released in theatres on 17th July, 1998. × Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai- Deepak Sareen’s story of a man (Salman Khan), woman (Twinkle Khanna) and a child (Aditya Narayan) had similaritries with Eric Segal’s bestseller Man, Woman and Child. But the story was a bit tweaked to suit Salman Khan’s fan base. The film had Khan playing a playboy who comes around when he falls for Khanna’s character. The couple’s blissful life is disrupted when a young boy comes to claim his rightful place at Khan’s house. The film came out in May 1998. × Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya-1998 was the year when the three Khans literally ruled the box office. Khan and Kajol paired up for Sohail Khan’s love story Pyaar Kiya to Darna Kya which had Arbaaz Khan playing Kajol’s older brother. The film also gave us a shirtless Salman Khan for the first time as he danced to Oh Oh Jane Jana and showed off his perfect abs. The film came out on 27th March. × Pyaar Toh Hona Hi Tha- A Hindi remake of the Hollywood film French Kiss, it had real life couple Ajay Devgn and Kajol playing lovers on screen. The couple got married an year later. A romantic comedy, the film had some memorable music by Jatin Lalit. Kajol practically had a dream year with three of her films being superhit. She even won the Best Actress award that year for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha was a July release. × Satya- Back then, Ram Gopal Verma was credited for making hard hitting, realistic films. Written by Anurag Kashyap and Saurabh Shukla, Satya was hard hitting gangster film and depicted how actually the Mumbai underworld operated. While the titular character was played by Telugu star JD Chakravarthy, it was a certain Manoj Bajpayee who shined in his role as Bhiku Mhatre. Powerful performances by all actors made Satya a cult classic.
