In an effort to make Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city free of beggars, the district authorities have said on Monday, December 16, that FIR will registered against those who give alms from January 1, 2025.
District collector Ashish Singh told reporters that the administration has already issued an order to ban begging in Indore, according to news agency PTI.
“Our awareness campaign against begging will go on in the city till the end of this month (December). If any person is found giving alms from January 1, a First Information Report (FIR) will be registered against him/her,” he said.

In recent months, the administration has exposed different organised gangs who make people beg. Singh also said that many people who were involved in the act of begging have been rehabilitated.
<h2>Initiative against begging</h2>
The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has launched a pilot project aimed at making 10 Indian cities beggar-free, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, and Ahmedabad.

This includes awareness generation, identification, rehabilitation, counselling, medical facilities, education, skill development, and sustainable settlement.
Search and rescue operations for beggars in the city have been carried out by the Indore administration for their rehabilitation. Earlier in September, 12 beggars were rescued from Khajrana Temple Square, according to reports. In another incident, 10 beggars and 4 children were rescued from the Annapurna Temple area in Indore city. In addition, authorities rescued 12 beggars from Balaji Temple in front of the zoo, reports claim.

Giving alms in Madhya Pradesh's Indore could land you in jail from January 1

As the probe in the Bengaluru techie suicide case continues, details have emerged that Nikita Singhania, the estranged wife of 34-year-old techie Atul Subhash, changed her location every day and made calls only on WhatsApp to not get caught by the police. 
Nikita also constantly tried to secure anticipatory bail after the techie's family filed a suicide abetment case against her. 
However, a mistake by her and one phone call gave her location away, and the Bengaluru Police tracked her down to Gurugram, police sources told Indian news agency IANS. 
While she moved to a PG accommodation in Gurugram, her mother and brother hid in Jhusi town in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj district. They all communicated on WhatsApp calls. 
But Nikita made one call, by mistake, to one of her close relatives. Following this, the police tracked the tower location and reached the PG accommodation in Gurugram's Rail Vihar, according to the sources.

Nikita was arrested from Gurugram, and at that time, her mother Nisha Singhania and brother Anurag Singhania were taken into custody by Prayagraj. 
Meanwhile, Nikita's uncle Sushil Singhania, the fourth accused in the suicide abetment case, is still on the run. 
Soon after the Bengaluru Police registered the case, the accused locked their home in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur and fled, the police sources said. 
When the police reached Jaunpur, they pasted notices on their home, asking them to appear within three days. 
The Bengaluru Police also made a list of the family's close relatives and kept an eye on them. 
However, the accused only made calls on WhatsApp, which made it difficult for the police to track them.

The Singhanias also pleaded for anticipatory bail in the Allahabad High Court. 
<h2>'Key challenge'</h2>
The key challenge in taking all three accused to Bengaluru was to ensure that co-passengers did not recognise Nikita during the journey during the late-night flight. 
The three accused were taken to Bengaluru on a late-night flight, the police said, adding that they were extremely cautious in ensuring that the news of their detention was not out before reaching Bengaluru. 
If the news had leaked, it would have created huge chaos, as the suicide of Atul Subhash has created a nationwide outrage.

Hundreds of people staged a protest in Kolkata, the capital of India's eastern state of West Bengal, on Monday (Dec 16) under the banner of "Bengali Hindu Suraksha Samiti", raising their voices on the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh and demanding the release of ISKCON priest Chinmoy Krishna Das. 
The rally began at Sealdah station and culminated at Rani Rashmoni Road in Kolkata. The protesters were seen traveling a distance of 2 km as they raised slogans demanding the release of Hindu monks. 
They further demanded the Bangladesh interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, to stop the atrocities on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh. 
The protesters were carrying saffron flags and banners, highlighting their concerns over the continued violence against Hindus and their temples in Dhaka.

They demanded the interim government ensure that the minorities in Bangladesh live in an atmosphere of peace and harmony. 
Last week, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reiterated that the government of Bangladesh was responsible for the safety of religious minorities in the country.

During the Parliament winter session, Priyanka Gandhi, in her Zero Hour reference, said that the picture was removed on Monday, which also happens to be Vijay Diwas. 
"Today, that picture has been removed from the Army headquarters where the Pakistan Army is surrendering before the Indian Army," she said.
She further recalled the role of soldiers and martyrs who fought the war between India and Pakistan in 1971.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday held extensive talks with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, focusing on further shoring up India-Sri Lankan cooperation in a range of areas, including defence, trade and investment.
The Sri Lankan leader arrived in Delhi on Sunday, his first foreign trip after becoming president in September.
Ahead of the talks, Dissanayake was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
"An extensive agenda encompassing trade, investment, development and security cooperation will be discussed," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on 'X' ahead of the Modi-Dissanayake talks.
On Sunday, the Sri Lankan leader held separate meetings with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and NSA Ajit Doval.
The Sri Lankan leader will also meet President Droupadi Murmu.

The Union Cabinet last week decided to hold simultaneous polls for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies but opted to leave "as of now" how local body polls are held.
Meghwal may tell the Lower House that since the Bill will need wider consultations with lawmakers and the public, it should be sent to a joint committee.

In his speech in Lok Sabha, he shared with members the expectation regarding the direction of ties with China in the near future. "Our relationship had progressed in many domains but was obviously negatively affected by recent events. We are clear that the maintenance of peace and tranquility in border areas is a prerequisite for the development of our ties." 
"In the coming days, we will be discussing both de-escalation as well as effective management of our activities in the border areas," Jaishankar said.
The external affairs minister said that "the conclusion of the disengagement phase now allows us to consider other aspects of our bilateral engagement in a calibrated manner, keeping our national security interests first and foremost."
Jaishankar said, "The immediate priority was to ensure disengagement from friction points so that there would be no further untoward incidents or clashes." 
"This has been fully achieved. The next priority will be to consider de-escalation, which would address the massing of troops along the LAC with associated accompaniments." He also recalled the 2020 face-offs between Indian and Chinese forces along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. Earlier in November, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met his counterpart Admiral Dong Jun in Laos, where he emphasised that India-China need to move from disengagement to de-escalation to further build trust and confidence.

Security remains one of the major concerns for the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir for the rail service. Most of the security arrangements have already been put in place on the track with two wings of security, Railway Police Security (RPF) and General Railway Police (GRP), are fully dedicated to the security of railway stations and tracks. There will be CCTV connectivity at every station, every tunnel, and every bridge.
These will be controlled round the clock by railway and security officials in several sub-control rooms.

Vijay Diwas 2024: History, significance, wishes and everything you need to know

Indian tabla maestro Zakir Hussain has passed away at a hospital in San Francisco, his family confirmed on Monday (Dec 16). Hussain, 73, died due to complications arising out of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis — a rare lung disease, the family said in a statement, as reported by news agency PTI.
"His prolific work as a teacher, mentor and educator has left an indelible mark on countless musicians. He hoped to inspire the next generation to go further. He leaves behind an unparalleled legacy as a cultural ambassador and one of the greatest musicians of all time," said his family.
The tabla maestro had been hospitalised for the past two weeks and was later moved to the ICU as his condition worsened.
Speaking to PTI, Hussain's sister Khurshid Aulia said, "He passed away very peacefully after the ventilation machine was switched off. This was 4 pm San Francisco time."
Hussain is survived by his wife, Antonia Minnecola and his daughters, Anisa Qureshi and Isabella Qureshi.

Born on 9 March 1951, Zakir Hussain was the son of legendary tabla master Ustad Alla Rakha. 
Considered the greatest tabla player of his generation, Zakir Hussain's illustrious career spanned six decades and earned him a number of national and international accolades, including four Grammy Awards, including three at the 66th Grammy Awards earlier this year.
He was also the recipient of Indian civilian honours Padma Shri (1988), the Padma Bhushan (2002) and the Padma Vibhushan (2023).

He was a treasure trove of skill and knowledge and always shared and encouraged the entire music community through collaborations and his actions. His legacy will live on forever, and his influence will be felt for generations. He left us too soon," Kej wrote on X.

“It is mandatory for Naxal cadres to have ‘nasbandi’ (vasectomy) if they want to get married. The leaders don't want any member being involved emotionally with his offspring,” said Markam Dula, who is a surrendered Naxal from Sukma district of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, while speaking to PTI.

<h2>Maoists share their stories with Minister Shah</h2>
A former female Maoist from Malkangiri, Odisha, informed Shah that she had got married to a fellow cadre who had undergone a vasectomy.
Eventually, her husband got killed in a police encounter and she decided to surrender, said the woman.
Meanwhile, another former Maoist from Telangana remembered how he had gotten his vasectomy done and then got it reversed after he entered the mainstream.
“When I was a member of the CPI (Maoist), I had to go for 'nasbandi'. But after I gave up arms and joined the mainstream, I underwent another operation so that I could become a father. After the second operation, I became the father of a boy," he said.
Minister Amit Shah also met a group of former Maoists at an event in Jagdalpur city of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh on Sunday (Dec 15).

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher urged the residents of Punjab’s 13,000 villages to block railway tracks from 12 to 3 pm. “We appeal to everyone living near railway crossings to join this movement,” Pandher said at a press conference at the Shambhu border in Patiala. Pandher also reached out to Rakesh Tikait-led Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), the prominent farmers' group that led last year's protest against the now-repealed farm laws. In a letter, Pandher invited SKM to join the 'Rail Roko' protest, calling for unity despite past differences. “Let’s unite for the welfare of farmers and labourers,” Pandher stated. Previous attempts to enter Delhi stopped Farmers tried to enter Delhi on foot three times—on December 6, 8, and 14. Each time, the police stopped them. On December 14, the police used tear gas, injuring 17 farmers. Despite these obstacles, the farmers are still holding their ground at the Punjab-Haryana border and are determined to continue their protest. Impact of the protest The farmers plan to block important railway routes in Punjab, which is expected to cause major disruption. This is the latest step in their ongoing protest against policies they believe harm their interests. All eyes will be on December 18 to see if the protest gains support and if SKM joins in. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the cold wave will intensify in the coming days. Due to calm winds and high humidity, shallow fog is also expected to develop in several areas, further lowering temperatures. The minimum temperature at Safdarjung is expected to remain around 5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, (Dec 18).

In addition to Delhi, the IMD has issued a coldwave warning for several northern states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, and parts of western Uttar Pradesh. These regions are likely to see continued cold weather in the days ahead.

Cold weather hits Delhi with 4.5° chill and 'very poor' AQI amid coldwave

Shiv Sena MLA Narendra Bhondekar has resigned from all party posts while expressing disappointment at not being included in the Maharashtra cabinet.

Speaking to reporters in Bhandara on Sunday, Bhondekar, who was the Shiv Sena's deputy leader and co-ordinator for eastern Vidarbha districts, claimed his party head and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had promised him a cabinet berth.

Bhondekar said he aspired to secure a cabinet berth to become the guardian minister of Bhandara district and work for its development.

He won from the Bhandara constituency by defeating his Congress rival by more than 38,000 votes in the November 20 state polls.

A total of 39 legislators from Mahayuti allies were sworn in on Sunday in the first cabinet expansion of the Devendra Fadnavis-led ministry, including 16 new faces, while 10 former ministers were excluded.

While the BJP secured 19 ministerial berths by virtue of being the largest party among allies, Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) were allotted 11 and 9 berths, respectively.

Bhondekar said, "I joined the Shiv Sena on the condition that I would be given a cabinet berth. Shinde had even promised me the same. When Shinde became chief minister in the previous government, I was an independent MLA and extended support to him." The Sena leader claimed his name was also considered for a ministerial position during the last cabinet expansion (of the previous Mahayuti government).

"When I reviewed the cabinet list and realised I was omitted, I decided to step down from all positions in the party," he said.

Bhondekar said he intended to secure a cabinet post to become the guardian minister of Bhandara district, but he will now serve as an ordinary party worker.

Bhandara district consistently had an outsider as the guardian minister for several years. Such a practice has hindered the resolution of issues affecting the district, he claimed.

In an effort to make Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city free of beggars, the district authorities have said on Monday, December 16, that FIR will registered against those who give alms from January 1, 2025.

District collector Ashish Singh told reporters that the administration has already issued an order to ban begging in Indore, according to news agency PTI.

“Our awareness campaign against begging will go on in the city till the end of this month (December). If any person is found giving alms from January 1, a First Information Report (FIR) will&nbsp;be registered against him/her,” he said.

Search and rescue operations for beggars in the city have been carried out by the Indore administration for their rehabilitation. Earlier in September, 12 beggars were rescued from Khajrana Temple Square, according to reports. In another incident, 10 beggars and 4 children were rescued from the Annapurna Temple area in Indore city. In addition, authorities rescued 12 beggars from Balaji Temple in front of the zoo, reports claim.

As the probe in the Bengaluru techie suicide case continues, details have emerged that Nikita Singhania, the estranged wife of 34-year-old techie Atul Subhash, changed her location every day&nbsp;and made calls only on WhatsApp to not get caught by the police.&nbsp;
