India will extend a Line of Credit of $31 million and a concessional financing of $20 million to Suriname as the two countries agreed to strengthen their economic relations and development partnership after President Kovind held talks with his Suriname counterpart Desire Delano Bouterse.

President Kovind, who is on a three-day visit to the Latin American country, announced that India will extend concessional financing of $20 million for setting up a solar project to provide clean energy to a cluster of 49 villages in Suriname.

India will also extend a Line of Credit of $27.5 million to support a power transmission project in Pikin Saron area and another Line of Credit of $3.5 million for maintenance of Chetak helicopters.

The President also received the Ratification Instrument of Suriname joining the International Solar Alliance from Bouterse.

India also agreed to assist Suriname in establishing a Centre of Excellence in information technology. A Memorandum of Understanding to take forward this project was signed.

Besides, the two sides also concluded four MoUs in the fields of elections, diplomatic academies partnership, employment for spouse of diplomats of the two countries and archives. 
Suriname invited Indian investment in areas such as agriculture, mining, energy and timber.

During the talks, Suriname accepted India's invitation to attend the 11th World Hindi Conference to be held in Mauritius in August 2018 as well as the Business Conclave to be held between India and CARICOM in Trinidad and Tobago soon.

Addressing the National Assembly of Suriname, President Kovind, who arrived in Suriname on June 19 said development cooperation, under the rubric South-South cooperation, is an important pillar of Indo-Surinamese relations.

President Kovind was the first foreign Head of State to address the National Assembly of Suriname. In 1988, then Vice-President of India Shankar Dayal Sharma had addressed the House.

"Paramaribo and New Delhi are almost 14,000 km apart. Yet, despite this trans-oceanic gap, our countries have much in common. Both Suriname and India are multi-cultural, multi-religious and multi-ethnic democracies," he said.

Speaking on the climate change, he said, "This is an international concern, a foreign policy issue - and yet, for the people of Suriname it is a deeply-felt existential challenge. I must commend your country for its enlightened approach on climate change. You have shown a determination that even much larger and wealthier nations have shied away from."

President Kovind said India has extended financial grants for a craft market project and a digital literacy programme.

"We hope our assistance will help in promoting economic sustainability and capacity building of women and children in Suriname," he said.

He said India wants to strengthen our capacity building partnership with Suriname through the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation programme as well.

"We have, therefore, offered to raise the annual scholarships to Suriname under the programme from 40 to 50," he said.

President Kovind said that President Bouterse has expressed Suriname's continued support for India's aspiration to be a permanent member of the UN Security Council.

"We also expressed our deepest concern on the threat posed by terrorism and conveyed strong support to each other to fight the global menace," he said.

India and Suriname also agreed to enhance cooperation to promote Ayurveda and other traditional medicinal systems of both countries.

It also lashed out at Pime Minister Narendra Modi, saying "running a nation is not a child's play."

Jammu and Kashmir was on Wednesday placed under governor's rule for the fourth time in the last one decade after the BJP withdrew support to its alliance partner PDP, prompting Mehbooba Mufti to resign as the chief minister.

"The BJP opted out of power in Kashmir after spreading anarchy in the valley," the Sena alleged in an editorial in party mouthpiece 'Saamana'.

"The situation had never deteriorated to this extent there, rivers of blood had never flown so extensively and never had so many jawans lost their lives before," said the BJP's ally at the Centre and in Maharashtra.

All this happened during the BJP's rule in the valley. However, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti was blamed and the saffron party opted out of power like a gentleman, it quipped.

"The government in Kashmir was formed due to greed (of the BJP). The country, jawans and people of Kashmir had to pay a heavy price for this greediness. Thus, history will never forgive the BJP for this," the Marathi publication said.

The channel was blocked as YouTube was updating its “partner agreements”, a spokesperson for the website had said yesterday.

“YouTube unblocked PIB’s YouTube channel today at 8 am,” a senior official said.

But PIB could not live stream the prime minister’s event from the Uttarakhand capital Dehradun on International Yoga Day as the function got over at 8 am.

The problem was communicated to YouTube India yesterday, a PIB source said.

PIB India’s YouTube channel had been experiencing a technical glitch because of which viewers were not able to access content on the channel, the source had said yesterday.

On trying to watch a video, an error message was displayed: ‘This video contains content from Press Information Bureau. It is not available in your country.”

YouTube channels of MIT Open Courseware (which has north of 1.5 million subscribers), Jamendo Music and Blender Foundation (with over 190,000 subscribers) were also blocked.

“Videos on a limited number of sites have been blocked as we updated our partner agreements. We are working with them to get their videos back online,” the YouTube spokesperson had said yesterday.

Officials said the channel was blocked from June 15 (Saturday) and came to the notice of officials on June 18 when a press conference of Railway Minister Piyush Goyal could not be streamed live.

The situation in Jammu and Kashmir will improve under governor's rule, Union minister Mahesh Sharma said today.

In 2014, the BJP had made arrangements to form a government with the PDP because of the political situation in Jammu and Kashmir and for the benefit of the state, he said.

The minister of state for culture and tourism was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an International Yoga Day event here.

"We kept it (alliance) for three years, but now with the present political situation having changed, the time has come for such a rule (governor's rule). A rule where the might of the state can take on terrorists with the help of the people," he said.

The minister said, "With the imposition of governor's rule, the situation in the state will change for the better, and the change is already apparent with the security forces and police working with more confidence now." 
The impact of the change will be felt soon, Sharma said.

The state was brought under the governor's rule on Wednesday, after the BJP withdrew support to the PDP-led government the day before.&nbsp;

Without naming any country, Sharma said, "the entire world knows the role of a country in Kashmir. That country now stands isolated in the entire world."

On militant activities in Kashmir, he said "We'll free Kashmir of terrorism and win back the misguided section who happens to be our own countrymen," he said, describing Kashmir as the "Pride of India".

BJP national secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, who also attended the Yoga event, said, the BJP-PDP alliance in J&K was built on a common minimum programme, but could not last.

Trouble is brewing for Karnataka water resource minister D K Shivakumar against whom a fourth summons has been issued by a court in connection with alleged tax evasion.

Shivakumar, his mother and his brother have been asked to appear before a court in person along with four other accused in the case.

A senior Income Tax (I.T) official confirmed that the fourth summons has been issued against Shivakumar by the special court dealing with economic offences here yesterday.&nbsp

“Court has issued the summons. One more complaint has been filed. Last time there were three. The case is same.

The only thing is different years are involved. The case pertains to tax evasion,” said the official speaking on condition of anonymity.

Sources in the Income Tax department said along with Shivakumar, case has been registered against his associates Sachin Narayan, Sunil Kumar Sharma, Anjaneya, Hanumanthaiah and Rajendra.

These summons pertains to the raids carried out last year.

Denying the IT department’s claims that they have seized a diary from a businessman, which revealed that the minister had transferred a huge sum of money to some organisations in Delhi, DK Shivakumar claimed that he too has some diaries and warned that he will “disclose the contents of them” to expose many BJP leaders and other bigwigs in Karnataka.

“It is very shocking. There is no diary. I am not aware of it. There has been no raid on any of my friends or associates. You can write whatever you feel like,” he said, adding that he will not reveal the contents of the diaries yet. “But I will disclose them at the end,” he added.

Claiming that he’s being victimised and being targeted for “daring politics and personal charisma”, Shivakumar said, “They are not able to tolerate my rise in politics and so are torturing me, my family and friends. I know who is doing this and why.&nbspI also know how to fight this legally. I am really upset by this.”

Shivakumar's brother and Congress MP from Bengaluru (Rural) DK Suresh earlier said the BJP was taking revenge on them for fighting for the Congress party. BJP had demanded Shivakumar's resignation over the issue.

Tanvi Seth said an official — she named him as Vikas Mishra — told her there was a problem with her file since she had married a Muslim but retained her maiden name. Seth added that Mishra shouted at her and insulted her in front of everybody else there.&nbsp;

Seth's husband Mohammad Anas Siddiqui said he was told he should change his religion and take "pheras".&nbsp;

Seth promptly tweeted Minister of External Affairs Sushma Seth, who is known to be adept Twitter.&nbsp;

"I type this tweet with immense faith in justice and in you and ironically with a lot of anger / hurt and agony in my heart because of the way I was treated at the Lucknow passport office at Ratan Square by Mr. Vikas Mishra," Tavi said.&nbsp;

"... because I married a Muslim and not changed my name ever. He spoke to me very rudely and was loud enough for others to hear while discussing my case. I have never felt so harassed ever before. The other workers at the office acknowledged his rude demeanour," she added.&nbsp;

The regional passport officer promptly wrote back to her, saying, "We assure proper investigation and appropriate action. We will contact you tomorrow positively.

On Thursday morning, he said Tanvi and Anas had received their passports.&nbsp;

Some passengers on an AirAsia India flight from Kolkata to Bagdogra got into an altercation with airline staff over deplaning them after the flight was delayed by over four hours, a passenger claimed. 
 
Indian Oil Corporation Executive Director (West Bengal) Dipankar Ray, who was also travelling in the same flight, complained of very "unprofessional and rude" behaviour from the airline staff. 
 
"The flight was scheduled to depart at 9 am and was initially delayed by 30 minutes. After boarding, we kept sitting inside the aircraft for one and a half hours with no food or water at all," Ray said. 
 
The flight captain then instructed all passengers to deboard without any explanation, he added. 
 
"When passengers refused to deboard due to heavy rains outside, the captain put the air-conditioning blower on full blast to hound the passengers out. It created a scary scene as heavy fog was created inside the plane and it was very suffocating," Ray said. 
 
He further said that many women passengers started vomiting and children were crying. 
 
In a video that he uploaded on his Facebook profile, it was seen that passengers were arguing with onboard staff for switching off the blower.&nbsp;

When contacted, An AirAsia India issued a statement and accepted that the flight was delayed and expressed regrets. "AirAsia India would like to confirm that flight i5583 from Kolkata to Bagdogra was delayed by 4.5 hours due to a technical requirement. AirAsia regrets the inconvenience caused to guests on account of this disruption and would like to reinstate that the airline always prioritises safety above all," the company said. It further said that there was no danger to any of the occupants onboard the aircraft as the cool conditioned air being circulated was condensing.

The company also claimed that all the affected guests were offered refreshments and provided with alternate arrangements requested for.

Ray, however, countered that and said the airline had asked them to go to the food court in the airport after deplaning them and show the boarding passes to get food. 
 
"When we reached the food court, they refused us. There was no communication from AirAsia at all. We had to pay. When we were boarding the flight second time, then they gave us one sandwich and a 250 ml water bottle. This is an unacceptable treatment," he said.

Indian peacekeepers serving with the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) are being lauded for helping restore peace and security in a town in the East African country, ravaged by fighting that forced civilians to flee and devastated the economy.

Indian peacekeepers operate a temporary base set up in February this year in the Jonglei region town of Akobo in the north-east of South Sudan, according to a UNMISS press release.

UN peacekeepers have previously been stationed in Akobo but their base in the town was closed down after being targeted by an unprovoked attack in December 2013, in which two Indian peacekeepers and 30 civilians who had sought refuge in the premises were killed.

The Head of the UN Mission, David Shearer, sought to reestablish the Mission's presence there, expressing a need to reach communities in need in all parts of the country, regardless of their ethnic or political background.

As a result, the temporary base operated by the Indian battalion was established in February 2018 to help protect civilians and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to vulnerable people, making it the first UN peacekeeping presence in a rebel-held territory in South Sudan.

The results are visible. When we arrived here in February there was nothing in and around this TOB (Temporary Operating Base),&nbspsaid Lieutenant Colonel Singh Negi, the Indian battalion Commanding Officer. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday visited the family of rifleman Aurangzeb who was abducted and killed by militants in Jammu and Kashmir on June 15, news agency ANI reported.

Sitharaman arrived here earlier in the day and flew to the Mendhar area of Rajouri district where she met the bereaved family, the report added.

"I came to meet martyr's family. I have spent some time here. One message I can take back from here is that here's a family, here's a martyr, who stands out as an inspiration for the entire nation," the Minister told media persons here after meeting&nbspthe family members of the slain rifleman.

The slain soldier`s father has also served in the Army.

A video released by the militant group that abducted Aurangzeb showed him bravely acknowledging that he was a soldier of the Indian Army and had participated in anti-militancy operations in south Kashmir.

National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah on Wednesday called for the immediate dissolution of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and holding of fresh elections in the state, news agency PTI reported.

In a surprise move, the BJP yesterday pulled out of the three-year-old ruling coalition with the PDP in the state that was placed under Governor's rule this morning.

"The J&K state assembly should be dissolved immediately & fresh elections should take place as soon as appropriate. The former DCM has admitted that BJP can't be trusted not to horsetrade for Govt formation (sic)," Omar tweeted.

The former chief minister was reacting to BJP leader and former deputy chief minister (DCM) Kavinder Gupta's reported statement that his party was "working on something".

"I don't think a new government will be formed anytime soon. Uncertainties are there, but we are working on something and people will get to know about it," Gupta had reportedly said.

The NC leader claimed that Gupta's statement hinted at the BJP's attempts to break other parties to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir.

On a news report about Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh not being kept in the loop about the BJP's decision to pull out of the government, Omar tweeted, "If this story is true & @HMOIndia didn't know about the impending demise of the BJPDP alliance then the fact that it caught me & my colleagues by surprise is really no big deal."

However, a couple from Maharashtra's Gondia, Mithun and Mansi were unable to decide on a name, so they held an election to decide.

They left the decision of naming their baby boy at the hands of the public.

The election was conducted on June 15, with election banners and ballot boxes to decide upon a name.&nbsp;

Friends and relatives participated in the voting.

Yaksha, Yovik, and Yuvan were the three names suggested by relatives and parents.

"It all started when the kundli (astrological chart) of our baby indicated that he'll be a political leader in future. It is then we decided to choose his name in a unique manner by public voting so that even after 15-20 years, he will cherish this day," ANI quoted Mithun Bang as saying.&nbsp;

"I am very happy today, more after the name I voted for my nephew won. It has been a memorable day for the entire family," ANI quoted the baby`s aunt as saying.

The boy was finally named "Yuvan".
