<p>Hours after Arvind Subramanian stepped down as the Chief Economic Adviser (CEA), Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram said he was disappointed, but not surprised.</p>

<p>"I am disappointed, but not surprised, that Dr Arvind Subramanian has decided to leave the government before the end of his term. Dr Arvind Subramanian was either not consulted or his views were brushed aside on many important issues. It is no longer a secret that the CEA was not consulted before demonetisation," he tweeted.</p>

<p>Chidambaram further claimed that Subramanian`s views on Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates and Revenue Neutral Rate were "brushed aside.</p>

<p>"The senior Congress leader said he was hopeful of Subramanian returning to serve "under a future government.</p>

<p>"I am sure that with age on his side, Dr Arvind Subramanian will return to serve under a future government. I thank Dr Arvind Subramanian for describing the UPA years of 2005-2010 as the "boom period" of the Indian economy," Chidambaram said in another tweet.</p>

<p>Well-regarded surgeon and author Atul Gawande, a critic of his industry`s medical practices, has been tapped to lead the healthcare company Amazon.com Inc, Berkshire Hathaway Inc and JPMorgan Chase & Co hope will slash costs.</p>

<p>The Boston-based venture will target the cost of serving the companies` employees and will operate free from profit-making incentives, the three companies, which employ more than 1 million people, said in a joint statement.</p>

<p>Amazon, Berkshire and JPMorgan announced the venture in January, rattling shares of the healthcare supply chain, including CVS Health Corp and Express Scripts, among others.</p>

<p>Amazon and its partners say they will use big-data analysis and other high-tech tools to improve care and cut wasteful spending.</p>

<p>Gawande practices general and endocrine surgery at Brigham and Women`s Hospital and is a professor at the Harvard TH&nbsp;Chan School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School.</p>

<p>In his 2014 book "Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End," Gawande argued against prolonging a poor quality of life for the elderly and terminally ill, saying healthcare institutions often deprive people of independence and quality of life in their latter years.</p>

<p>JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon has said he wants the joint venture to deal with the "extraordinary" spending on end-of-life care when such interventions may not help.</p>

<p>Berkshire Chairman and CEO Warren Buffett, who is working on the venture with Dimon and Amazon`s Jeff Bezos, said all the candidates for the job felt they could deliver better healthcare and contain rising costs.</p>

<p>"Jamie, Jeff and I are confident that we have found in Atul the leader who will get this important job done," Buffett said in a statement. Gawande starts July 9.</p>

<p>Buffett has described U.S. healthcare costs as a "tapeworm" on American businesses, hurting their ability to compete with rivals in other countries. Last month, he said the goal is to challenge the entire healthcare industry, not individual segments.</p>

<p>While there is no guarantee the venture will succeed in lowering costs, Buffett said it was well-positioned to try.</p>

<p>"The resistance will be unbelievable, and if we fail, at least we tried," Buffett said last month.</p>

<p>Amazon`s size and reputation as a disruptor prompted investors to sell shares of companies that might be hurt by the venture.</p>

<p>"The choice suggests that the (Amazon, Berkshire, JPMorgan) coalition is looking not at the drug value chain in isolation, but more broadly at the overall healthcare system across payers and providers of care delivery," Leerink Partners LLC analyst Ana Gupte said in a note.</p>

<p>Several large American employers are getting more deeply involved in managing their workers` health instead of looking to insurers to do it. Cisco, for instance, last year began offering its employees a plan it negotiated directly with nearby Stanford Health medical system.</p>

<p>The victims were&nbsp;on their way to a condolence meet when the accident took place. Eight others injured when a tractor-trolley hit their jeep at Marena in&nbsp;Madhya Pradesh, a police official said.</p>

<p>The sand-laden tractor-trolley hit the overloaded jeep carrying nearly 20 people of a family around 6 am at a crossroad near Ganjrampur village, Morena Superintendent of Police Amit Sanghi told.</p>

<p>Twelve of the victims died on the spot while three succumbed to injuries in the hospital.</p>

<p>Eight others sustained injuries in the accident and were referred to the district hospital for treatment, he said.</p>

<p>The victims, all from Gwalior district, were going to Ghurgan village for a condolence meeting, he said.</p>

<p>The driver of the tractor-trolley, carrying sand mined illegally from the National Chambal Sanctuary, fled the spot after the accident, Sanghi said.</p>

<p>A case was registered against him, he said, adding that a probe was on into the incident.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Governor's Rule in the state came into effect after Mehbooba Mufti resigned as Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister following the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) exit from its alliance with the People's Democratic Party (PDP).</p>

<p>Union Minister of Finance, Arun Jaitley, took to Facebook announcing that the Chief Economic Adviser (CEA), Arvind Subramanian's term would not be extended any further as he wants to go back to the US due to family commitments.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Subramanian was appointed CEA to the finance ministry on October 16, 2014 for a period of three years. In 2017 his term was extended for a year.</p>

<p>Jaitley said that on expiry of Subramanian's three-year term in October last year, he had requested him to continue for some more time.</p>

<p>"Even at that stage he told me that he was torn between family commitment and his current job which he considered the best and most fulfilling he has ever done," the minister said.</p>

<p>&nbspA fresh controversy erupted on Thursday over the suicide of research scholar Rohith Vemula, with Union Minister Piyush Goyal claiming that her mother was offered money to share stage with opposition leaders and target the BJP over her son's death, a charge denied by Radhika Vemula, news agency PTI reported.&nbsp</p>

<p>"The condition of the family (Vemula) was not good and she was promised money for political reasons so that she could share stage with opposition leaders and level allegations," Goyal told a press conference in New Delhi.</p>

<p>He cited reports that Rohith Vemula's mother had accused Indian Union Muslim League, a Kerala-based party, of not giving her the promised Rs 20 lakh to attend political rallies where false allegations against the BJP were levelled.</p>

<p>"How long opposition parties will continue with such abhorrent tactics for petty political gains," Goyal said.</p>

<p>He said Rahul Gandhi had also shared staged with her and claimed that it should be found out what allurements were offered to her. "The Congress president should apologise," he said, claiming that opposition parties have been unmasked for their politics based on lies.</p>

<p>Students aspiring for admission to undergraduate courses of the Delhi University on Thursday heaved a sigh of relief after they could smoothly complete their formalities, a day after several applicants faced difficulties during the process.</p>

<p>Yesterday, which was the day one of the admissions, the Delhi University's server came under severe pressure and the DigiLocker, a government-owned public cloud storage where certificates and documents were stored, was not integrated with the varsity portal.</p>

<p>The website was inaccessible for quite some time, forcing the students to flock to colleges and seek help from professors in generating forms.</p>

<p>According to the admission rules, applicants need to study the cut-off list, select courses and colleges on the university website, take the printout of the admission slip and finally approach the respective colleges with the slip and required documents.</p>

<p>A DU official said, "The server was functioning smoothly and students did not come to us with complaints about it or that colleges were not accepting mark sheets."</p>

<p>Tomorrow is the last day of completing admission formalities for students who are hoping to get admission after the release of the first cut-off list. Tomorrow is also the last day of ECA trials for students.</p>

<p>The Delhi University announced its first cut-off list on June 18 for merit-based undergraduate courses in the 2018-19 academic year, recording a drop in the minimum required marks as compared to last year.</p>

<p>The highest cut-off this year is 98.75 per cent for BA (programme) in Lady Shri Ram College. Delhi College of Arts and Commerce has a cut-off of 98.50 per cent for BA (Hons) in Journalism, while LSR College has a cut-off of 98.25 per cent for BA (Hons) in Psychology.</p>

<p>Last year, the highest cut-off was 99.66 per cent for BSc (Hons) in Electronics in SGTB Khalsa College. In humanities stream, Khalsa College had set the highest cut-off at 99 per cent for BA (Hons) in Political Science.</p>

<p>In science stream this year, the highest cut-off was 98 per cent for BSc (Hons) in Physics in Hindu College. Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College also had a cut-off of 98 per cent for its BSc (Hons) in Computer Science course.</p>

<p>The varsity threw open its admission portal for aspirants of various undergraduate courses on May 15. The registration for these courses ended on June 7.&nbsp</p>

<p>Addressing the large gathering in the backdrop of the iconic British-era building of FRI, Modi said yoga has shown the world the way from "illness to wellness" and enriching lives across the globe.</p>

<p>He said, in fact, yoga has become the biggest mass movement across the globe in the quest for good health and wellbeing, which is crucial to the creation of a peaceful world.</p>

<p>"Dehradun to Dublin, Shanghai to Chicago, Jakarta to Johannesburg, Himalayan highlands or sunburnt deserts, Yoga is enriching millions of lives all over the world.</p>

<p>"Yoga fosters amity in societies which can form the basis of national unity," the prime minister said.</p>

<p>He said the proposal for the Yoga Day at the UN was accepted in record time with a majority of nations supporting it.</p>

<p>Today people all over the world have come to look upon yoga as something which belongs to them, Modi said.</p>

<p>He also asked people to learn to honour their own legacy and heritage if they wanted the rest of the world to respect them.</p>

<p>"If we don't take pride in our own legacy and heritage no one else will. We should not hesitate in honouring the gems of our own heritage.</p>

<p>He said the way to lead a calm, creative and content life was Yoga.</p>

<p>"In Yoga, we have the perfect solution to the problems we face, either as individuals or in our society," the prime minister said.</p>

<p>"Instead of dividing, yoga unites. Instead of further animosity, yoga assimilates. Instead of increasing suffering, yoga heals," he said.</p>

<p>Modi said yoga presents a ray of hope for future of the world.</p>

<p>"Yoga is beautiful because it is ancient yet modern, it is constant yet evolving," he said.</p>

<p>"India's legacy of which yoga is a significant part is unique and rich. We must take pride in it," the prime minister said, adding that it has the power to promote universal brotherhood as it unites and assimilates instead of dividing.&nbsp;</p>

PM Modi unveils Essel Group's YO1, largest nature cure centre in US

<p>After remaining subdued in most parts of the country since June 11, the southwest monsoon is likely to revive from June 24, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials stated.</p>

<p>"Under normal conditions, the monsoon would have covered parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh as well as east Uttar Pradesh. However, in absence of cyclonic systems, the advancement of the monsoon has been halted which is likely to revive by this weekend," IMD official was quoted as saying.</p>

<p>According to IMD officials, the conditions are likely to get favourable for the advancement of southwest monsoon from June 24 and might make progress in Maharashtra, Chattisgarh and Odisha.&nbsp</p>

<p>Monsoon arrived early this year, hitting Kerala in late May, three days in advance of its normal onset. It continued to make good progress and it covered southern peninsula, most parts of North-East and some parts of West Bengal.</p>

<p>However, depression over Bangladesh diverted the moisture away to the east which resulted in less rainfall in India last week. A shortage of 4 per cent rainfall has been recorded in the country till June 20.</p>

Met department says subdued monsoon likely to revive from June 24

<p>The Home Ministry today banned&nbsp;AQIS (al-Qaida in Indian subcontinent) and all its manifestation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act(UAPA).&nbsp;</p>

<p>AQIS is reportedly headed by Sanaul Haq aka Maulana Asim Umar, who hails from Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The government has also banned the Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham-Khorasan (ISIS-K), an Afghanistan-based affiliate of ISIS.</p>

<p>The ministry said these groups were "radicalising Indian youths for 'global jihad' and encouraging terror acts on Indian interests".</p>

<p>The AQIS, an affiliate of al-Qaida, is a terrorist organisation, which has committed acts of terrorism in the neighbouring countries and has been promoting and encouraging terror acts on Indian interests in the Indian sub-continent, the ministry said, adding that it has been attempting to radicalise and recruit Indian youths.</p>

<p>The ISKP/ISIS Wilayat Khorasan is also promoting and encouraging terrorism in the Indian sub-continent, according to the government.</p>

<p>The outfit, which has now been banned, considers India and Indian interests as its targets and is engaged in activities of radicalising and recruiting Indian youth for terror activities, the home ministry order said.</p>

<p>"The recruitment of youth by the said organization from India and their radicalisation are a matter of serious concern for the national security and international peace," the government maintained.<br />

Subramanian's resignation was announced yesterday by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Facebook. Jaitley said Subramanian had resigned due to "pressing family commitments". "It has been the best job I ever had or will ever have. It was enriching & exciting. I will go back with the happiest best memories of this tenure. I will always be committed to serving the country in future," Subramanian said after his resignation was announced. He made a number of other insinuations, including wondering whether Jaitley might no longer be finance minister. (Jaitley had recently been unwell, during which time Piyush Goyal had looked after the finance ministry.) Gandhi also said the "BJP Treasurer has the keys to the Indian Economy." And that "Captain DeMo is fast asleep". He ended with the words "It’s crazy out there!" His entire tweet read: "Ex ? FM is locked in his room, breaking news on FaceBook. Watch International Yoga Day live: PM Modi performs yoga in Dehradun

<p>On the first day of the Governor's rule, the BJP-led central government sent a team of the National Security Guards (NSG) to Srinagar. The plan has been made keeping in view the intelligence reports that militants may target Amarnath Yatra, the annual pilgrimage.</p>

<p>The 60-day-long pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas will commence on June 28 and conclude on August 26.</p>

<p>The NSG commandos have been armed with latest weaponry so that they are prepared to deal with any hostage-like situation. These commandos will also be stationed at Srinagar airport to tackle any eventuality.</p>

<p>The Army has also strengthened security across the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC) to neutralise any attempt of infiltration by terrorists.</p>

<p>More emphasis has been to provide adequate security at Baltal and Pahalgam, key points on the route to the cave shrine of Amarnath.</p>

<p>The jawans of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have also been deployed at vital places for security of the pilgrims.</p>

<p>The Jammu and Kashmir government along with the Amarnath Shrine Board has started the preparations for the smooth pilgrimage this year and in this process, the government along with Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) has started clearance of snow from tracks and installing other logistical infrastructure for pilgrims who will undertake Yatra from Pahalgam side.</p>

<p>The first batch of Amarnath pilgrims is scheduled to depart from the Jammu base camp on June 28 under tight security.</p>

<p>On July 10 last year, at least nine Amarnath pilgrims were killed and 19 others were injured in the attack on the bus in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.</p>

<p>In December, the police claimed to have killed all the three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants involved in the attack.</p>

The 60-day-long pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas will commence on June 28 and conclude on August 26. The NSG commandos have been armed with latest weaponry so that they are prepared to deal with any hostage-like situation. These commandos will also be stationed at Srinagar airport to tackle any eventuality. The Army has also strengthened security across the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC) to neutralise any attempt of infiltration by terrorists. More emphasis has been to provide adequate security at Baltal and Pahalgam, key points on the route to the cave shrine of Amarnath. The jawans of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have also been deployed at vital places for security of the pilgrims. The Jammu and Kashmir government along with the Amarnath Shrine Board has started the preparations for the smooth pilgrimage this year and in this process, the government along with Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) has started clearance of snow from tracks and installing other logistical infrastructure for pilgrims who will undertake Yatra from Pahalgam side. The first batch of Amarnath pilgrims is scheduled to depart from the Jammu base camp on June 28 under tight security. On July 10 last year, at least nine Amarnath pilgrims were killed and 19 others were injured in the attack on the bus in south Kashmir's Anantnag district. In December, the police claimed to have killed all the three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants involved in the attack.
