BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav on Sunday said more than six weeks after the abrogation of the provisions of Article 370, people are still celebrating the move across the country because it unified and strengthened India.

"It is more than six weeks that the provisions of Article 370 have been revoked and people are still rejoicing across the country due to the fact that India has now become one. The death of Article 370 means the further strengthening of India's unity and integrity," Madhav said at a meeting.

Parliament had last month revoked Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and also passed the Jammu and Kashmir (Reorganisation) Act 2019, reorganising the state in two Union Territories - Jammu and Kashmir with Assembly and Ladakh without it.

Attacking opposition leaders who had criticised the central government's move, Madhav said it was mostly due to their lack of understanding and knowledge on the Kashmir issue.

"There are mourners also who are complaining about it too. Here too the DMK is criticising the government. The Congress and others too have done the same. It is because they are knowledge-proof. Just like waterproof watches where water cannot enter, the politicians are knowledge-proof in whom knowledge just cannot enter," he said in a light-hearted jibe at the leaders.

"DMK chief Stalin had termed it the most anti-democratic stance, this coming from a leader whose party is a family enterprise. Their statements cannot be taken seriously, they do not believe in it," he said attacking DMK.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will file a second supplementary charge sheet next month against JKLF chairperson Yasin Malik and four other separatist leaders in a Jammu and Kashmir terror funding case.

According to sources in the NIA, the supplementary charge sheet against separatists Malik, Shabir Shah, Asia Andrabi, Masarat Alam and former MLA Engineer Rashid will be filed in a Patiala House court here.

The main charge sheet was filed in January last year in which 12 people were named for funnelling funds for terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

The sources told ANI that there is "enough evidence" against the separatist leaders, including Malik, to show they were instrumental in triggering violent agitations in the Kashmir Valley in 2016 by issuing "protest calendars".

Malik is accused of being "actively engaged" in inciting secessionism and funnelling of funds for fomenting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party president Shabir Shah is accused of receiving Rs 10 lakh from hawala operator Zahoor Ahmad Shah Watali, a co-accused in the case.

Hurriyat Conference general secretary Masarat Alam Bhat has been named in the charge sheet for allegedly playing a significant role in stone-pelting and subsequently in the unrest in Kashmir in 2010.

The NIA, the sources said, has described Masarat Alam as the "poster boy of stone pelters" and violent agitations in the Valley.

Another separatist leader, Asiya Andrabi, the sources said, accepted during questioning to have collected funds and donations from foreign sources to organise protests by Muslim women.

Former MLA Rashid has been named for having links with Watali for carrying out disruptive activities in the Valley.

His name came up during the interrogation of Watali who was arrested by the agency for allegedly supplying money to the terror groups in the Valley.

Rashid is the first political leader who was named and arrested in the case.

With just one week left for the United Nations Human Rights Council to get over, India has been able to thwart Pakistan's attempts to rake up the Kashmir issue at the Geneva-based body.

The 42nd session of the Human Rights Council is underway in Geneva where the headquarters of UNHRC is located from September 9 to 27.

Behind India’s victory was the work of 9 Indian diplomats who were able to make sure Pakistan's attempts to raise Kashmir fall flat at the UN institution.

The 9-member team was led by secretary east Vijay Thakur Singh who was entrusted by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to chalk out the detailed strategy.

Some of the key members were India’s envoy to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria, India’s permanent representative to UN, Rajiv Chander; Deputy Permanent Representative to UN, Puneet Aggarwal; first secretary in India’s Permanent Mission in Geneva, Vimarsh Aryan; Animesh Choudhury, first secretary covering economic matters in the sphere of human rights; Mini Devi; Gloria Gangte and Alok Ranjan Jha.

Bisaria, who was sent back by Pakistan after the decision by New Delhi to revoke special status for Jammu and Kashmir, camped in Geneva and reached out to UNHRC members. Ajay Bisaria, who was the private secretary to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, met UN Human Rights Commissioner Michelle Bachelet on Friday and briefed about New Delhi’s rationale on revoking Article 370. The fact that Bisaria was sent as part of the team is considered a masterstroke by EAM Jaishankar.

Vimarsh Aryan, who slammed Pakistan's foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, hails from Jammu and Kashmir and is the only Indian diplomat who has served there for 3 years. The fact that the MEA chose a diplomat who from J&K to reply to Pak's foreign minister is a message in itself which will be noticed across the world, especially in Islamabad. His right of reply went viral, and on the day of the reply, he became one of the Twitter trends in India. Vimarsh had, in the past, served as the private secretary to former minister of state in the Ministry of External Affairs General VK Singh. Vimarsh, who speaks Arabic fluently, reached out to Arab diplomats.

Animesh has reached out to several countries in the neighbourhood and Latin America. Because of his fluency in Spanish, his outreach to the Latin American countries was significant and effective. Given his experience in handling high-pressure assignments, as private secretary to former Minister of State for External Affairs, he was roped in to deal with the important assignment.

MEA had deputed Gloria Gangte and Alok Ranjan Jha from New Delhi specially for the human rights session. They were chosen since they had previous experience in the field of human rights. Both officers had previously served in the Indian Mission in Geneva. Mini Devi, first secretary in India’s permanent mission in Geneva, covers Human Rights and was actively involved in the entire exercise.

Islamabad could not muster any support to bring a resolution on Kashmir - something the country was aiming for and failed despite claiming to have the support of 50 countries. The list of 50 countries backing Pakistan was never released by Islamabad.

Meet 9 Indian diplomats behind India's masterstroke at UNHRC, Geneva

Days after the central government slashed taxes for new domestic manufacturing companies to 15 per cent, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said that India has become an attractive destination for companies to relocate their supply chains from China.

"No country in South East Asia is giving 15 per cent tax rate. India has become an attractive destination for companies to relocate supply chains from China," Sitharaman told reporters.

The Finance Minister said that the revised tax rates will come into effect for new units set up after October 1 this year, "but production should start on or before 31 March 2023."

The government had on September 20, slashed domestic corporate tax rate to 22 per cent and 15 per cent for new manufacturing units.

"It will be difficult to raise the corporate tax rates from here and if anyone wants to do that, they will have to go to the Parliament and explain the rationale for the same," she said adding that Apple and its ecosystem coming to India is a big signal for foreign companies.

The Finance Minister also ruled out any expenditure cuts."The expenditure secretary will hold weekly meetings with all secretaries to push spending by departments and public sector undertakings (PSUs) for budgeted expenditure," she said.

Sitharaman expressed hope for 100 per cent disinvestment in Air India this fiscal and said that the government will focus on 23 Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved companies for the same.

The Air India Specific Alternative Mechanism (AISAM) is also likely to meet soon to finalise the contours.

"The government has not yet put thoughts into the personal income tax rate rationalization. We have glanced over the task force report on direct tax simplification but the detailed analysis of the report still on," she said.

"I will soon meet private sector banks to give a push to lending," she added. She also said that the fiscal deficit targets are not being revised at this stage and will take a call on the same at the financial year 2021 budget.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said that talks with Pakistan could not be resumed until Islamabad stops "exporting terrorism" to India, and added that any future discussion would be held on Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), and not on Jammu and Kashmir.

Taking to Twitter, Singh also ruled out any possibility of talks with Pakistan on Jammu and Kashmir.

"There can be no talks when terrorism is being exported across the border. Talks with Pakistan can resume only after it stops exporting terrorism. Our neighbour should keep in mind that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. Future discussion can only be about PoK," Singh tweeted.

Earlier today, he warned Pakistan not to "repeat its mistake" to go for war with India as it did in 1965 and 1971.

Addressing an event in Patna, Singh said that Pakistan would lose PoK if it dared to fight a war with India.

"Pakistan PM comes to PoK and suggests Pakistanis not to go to the border. It's good because if they come, they'll not be able to go back to Pakistan. They should not commit the mistake of repeating 1965 and 1971," Singh said.

He further said, "If they (Pakistan) repeat it, then they should think what will happen to PoK."

The government has on several occasions made it clear that talks between India and Pakistan cannot be resumed unless the latter stops using terrorism against India, saying that "talks and terror cannot go together."

His comments come days before the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York, where a high octane clash is expected between India and Pakistan over the abrogation of Article 370 and human rights violations in Pakistan.

"It is the duty of both the state and the Centre to give more importance to the rural side of India. Agriculture is the backbone of our country. If not taken care, the country will have to face serious economic consequences. I have always made efforts to provide help to the farming community to get their problems resolved," the Vice-President said.

He made these remarks while addressing an event to mark the 15th Anniversary Celebrations of Rythunestham and presenting the Padmasree Dr IV Subba Rao Rythunestham awards.

Vice-President Naidu also outlined the Government of India`s efforts towards ensuring more income for farmers while praising the contribution of Rythunestham towards agricultural causes.

"It is astonishing to know that more than 20,000 people have switched to agricultural practice merely by attending sessions of Rythunestham. The government has made efforts to make sufficient supply of Urea in the states to let farmers cultivate more. Government is also aiming to increase the schemes for the benefits of farmers."

Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Naidu stated he had also acknowledged agriculture as the backbone of the country and the government is always there to provide all-sufficient help to farmers.

Asserting that the Central government is helping farmers in resolving technical issues in the cultivation, the Vice-President said, "The government is helping those who are facing problems in the technical part of the cultivation. Gandhi ji once said that if you love your Nature, Nature will love you. So, if we disrespect nature, it will show us the wrath like floods and extremely high temperature during summers."

The Vice-President also called upon scientists to come up with innovations for the welfare of the agricultural community.

"The scientist should also help up the people residing in the rural area by developing the agricultural machinery," Naidu said.

He also stressed upon the importance of developing infrastructure and fertilization process for advancement in agriculture and said, "There is a vast potential for the production of food in India. If you want to make agricultural liable, you must make changes in the infrastructure and fertilization process. It is also the duty of the Niti Aayog to suggest appropriate changes in the structure of agricultural sectors of the country. Many youngsters are moving back to rural Indian and are helping the farmers".

He also called upon the attendees to spend time in agricultural fields to learn more about the issues at ground level.

"There are two ways to make changes in the lifestyle, which has become mechanical. First, we must adopt ancient methods of cultivation and second, we must spend more time in the fields so that we can know about the real problems of the farmers", he stated.

Farmers backbone of country, government should priortise development of rural India: Vice President Venkaiah Naidu

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday backed the Centre's decision to cut corporate tax rates, saying that this will pave the way for India becoming a $5 trillion economy, while Uttar Pradesh will be a $1 trillion economy by 2024.

"The decision to slash corporate tax rates will pave the way for India to become a $5 trillion economy and Uttar Pradesh to be a $1 trillion economy by 2024," Adityanath told media persons.

"The relief that has been given to the corporate sector in terms of tax rebates by the Union Government is a historic decision. Earlier the companies had to pay 30 per cent corporate tax. It has now been reduced to 22 per cent. This means that companies will have more money and greater investment opportunities, leading to employment creation and higher growth," he said.

Adityanath further pointed out that the trade sanctions imposed by the US have led to higher custom tariffs on Chinese goods, which have increased their prices.

"Around 80 per cent American supply chain companies and 67 per cent European companies have been displaced from China," he said.

He said that because of the high labour cost in China, many companies are moving into different countries. Thus, the investment that used to go majorly into China is now going to be directed towards India.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also lauded the Union Government's move to merge public sector banks (PSBs). He said the Central government has taken important decisions on the merger of banks.

The number of banks in the country was 27 in 2017, which is going to be 12 after the merger decision.

Adityanath said that the cuts announced on tax rates will not have an impact on revenue collection but will give a boost to the gross domestic product (GDP), thus giving greater stimulus to the economy.

"The financial sector in Uttar Pradesh will get a major boost because of this decision of the Central government. There will be no negative impact on the revenue collection in the state," he said.

He also pointed out that Uttar Pradesh will have the opportunity to leverage growth because of tax rate cuts and the prevailing business environment.

"We have made 21 sectoral policies in Uttar Pradesh to boost the economy and make the state a preferred investment destination," said Chief Minister Yogi.

"Uttar Pradesh can reap major benefits from the tax rate cuts and the trade war between the USA and China. We have a good land bank and connectivity. Hence, Uttar Pradesh can make the most of opportunities for growth," he said.

Corporate tax rate cuts will help India become $5 trillion economy: Yogi Adityanath

BJP working president JP Nadda on Sunday slammed mainstream leaders of Jammu and Kashmir for allegedly spreading lies pertaining to Article 370, which was recently scrapped from the state.

"Leaders like Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Farooq Abdullah, and others have spread the lie that Article 370 gives Jammu and Kashmir a special status. It is clearly mentioned in the Indian Constitution that Article 370 is temporary and transitional," he said while addressing a meet of intellectuals on 'One India, One Constitution'.

Talking about the history of Article 370, Nadda said, "The architects of the Indian Constitution were against Article 370. There were no takers of this Article in the Constituent Assembly."

"Gopalaswami Iyenger had said in the Constituent Assembly in 1949 that Article 370 will be temporary and transitional and all laws of the Constitution of India will apply to Jammu and Kashmir in a phased manner," he added.

The BJP working president also mentioned about Sheikh Abdullah, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, in his address and claimed that he rigged the first Vidhan Sabha elections in 1951 and changed his stance over the status of Jammu and Kashmir after sweeping the polls.

"Sheikh Abdullah had rigged the first Vidhan Sabha elections in 1951. He had disqualified all competing candidates and had ensured the victory of NC members on all 75 seats in J&K. After winning the rigged elections, Sheikh Abdullah changed his stance and started calling the J&K Legislative Assembly as the Constituent Assembly, a sovereign body and thus, we will form our own Constitution," he said.

Speaking about the benefits of abrogation of Article 370, Nadda said that the tribals residing in the Valley and Ladakh region will now get representation in the Vidhan Sabha and laws on sexual assault against children will be imposed in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh region.

"Jammu and Kashmir did not give any tribal rights to the tribals from the Valley and Ladakh. They do not have any tribal seat in the Vidhan Sabha even for the Gujjar and Bakarwals, who serve the nation in the Army. After the abrogation of Article 370, now delimitation will take place, and our tribal brothers will get to represent their communities in the Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha," he said.

"There is no right to information, no right against domestic violence, no right against sexual assault against Children in the Jammu and Kashmir Constitution. The Indian Parliament has passed 104 laws that were not implemented in Jammu and Kashmir," he said.

"Prior to the removal of Article 370 and 35A, women from J&K that married a non-NRC holder lost her right to property. To stop such injustices, the abrogation was very important and we took that step," the BJP working president further stated.

In his concluding remark, the BJP working President lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for making efforts to abrogate Article 370 and 35A from Jammu and Kashmir and splitting it into two Union Territories.

"Our power to abrogate Article 370 and 35A comes from your belief and votes. It was also helped by the will power of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the political know-how of Union Home Minister Amit Shah," he said.

Lies being spread about Article 370 by Jammu and Kashmir mainstream leaders: Nadda

Sounding the bugle for Maharashtra Assembly polls with the BJP's 'Jan Sampark Abhiyaan' over abrogation of Article 370 and 35A, Union Home Minister Amit Shah here on Sunday expressed confidence that the work done by the state government and the Centre will pay dividends by paving way for Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to retain power for the second consecutive term.

"This also happens to be the first programme of Maharashtra elections. The `Jan Sampark Abhiyaan` on the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A is going on across the country. This is the first programme in Mumbai," said Shah.

"I can say it with confidence that the NDA government would be formed in the state with a three-fourth majority and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be your Chief Minister again. If I say so, I have sufficient ground for it," said Shah.

"The work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Devendra Fadnavis led government in the state in the last over five years is remarkable. People have already indicated their mood in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls. The ease with which Prime Minister Modi abrogated Article 370 and 35A is praiseworthy," said Shah.

"I congratulate Prime Minister Modi`s bravery and grit. He removed Article 370 and 35A in the very first session of the Parliament as soon as we formed the government for the second time with 305 members," he added.

He said the Article 370 is a political issue for the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi while for the BJP abrogation of Article 370 and 35A is part of its effort to keep country undivided.

"Rahul Gandhi says Article 370 is a political issue. Rahul Baba, you have come into politics now, but three generations of the BJP have given their life for Kashmir, for the abrogation of Article 370. It is not a political matter for us. It is part of our goal to keep Bharat Maa undivided," said Shah.

"Forty thousand people were killed and Kashmiri pundits, Sufis, and Sikhs were driven out from the state in 10 years between 1990 and 2000. Rahul Gandhi cares about his vote bank and how to remain in power and hence is not moved by it. However, the sacrifice of 40,000 people is like a pain in our heart," he said.

He also said the issue of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) is because of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru announcing "untimely ceasefire" with Pakistan.

"The issue of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) would not have been there had the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru did not announce an untimely ceasefire in 1947 when the Army was strongly fighting against Pakistani infiltrators in Jammu and Kashmir," said Shah.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said that Article 370 was a wound in the Constitution which "bloodied our piece of heart and the heaven on this earth - Kashmir".

Speaking at a public meeting here, Singh said, "We had always advocated for the abrogation of Article 370 and we fulfilled our dream after 72 years of independence. The first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had said that Article 370 was a temporary provision and would die its own death. But it stayed for 69 years. It was the leadership of Narendra Modi which brought Article 370 to an end."

The Defence Minister further said that the terrorism that spread in Jammu and Kashmir was because of Article 370.

Around 41,500 people have lost their lives after independence because of the scourge of terrorism.

Around 5,500 security personnel have died there in the line of duty.

"The communal political parties accuse us of being communal. They should look within. We always practice what we preach. Our party is a unique party in the entire world which stood on its ideology and accomplished what we envisioned," Singh said.

He further went on to say that Jammu and Kashmir will be entirely transformed within five years and will come to be known as the paradise on earth again.

Singh warned Pakistan that it should not repeat the mistakes of 1965 and 1971 otherwise it would have to face dire consequences and it will fall on its own.

Help Sindh attain independence from Pakistan: Activist urges PM Modi

Some 50,000 Indian-Americans are due to pack into a Houston stadium Sunday for a rally with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, joined by US President Donald Trump, in a rare mass show of support for a foreign leader on US soil.

Some 50,000 Indian-Americans are due to pack into a Houston stadium Sunday for a rally with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, joined by US President Donald Trump, in a rare mass show of support for a foreign leader on US soil. The event gives Modi, a nationalist facing international criticism over a recent crackdown in disputed Kashmir, a chance to energise his relationship with Indian-Americans who are active political supporters. Trump, meanwhile, will face a largely foreign-born audience that may not prove receptive to his typical strident anti-immigrant messages. Houston is a rare Democratic stronghold in Republican-dominated Texas and serves as the economic anchor of a state that will be critical to Trump's 2020 reelection bid. Polls show tepid support by Indian-American voters, some 75% of whom voted for his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, in 2016. But organisers of the "Howdy, Modi!" event, due to kick off in the morning with a 90-minute cultural programme featuring 400 costumed dancers, say Trump can expect a receptive audience. "Trump is completely welcomed by the community," said Preeti Dawra, a spokeswoman for the Texas India Forum that organised the event. "His presence is an indication of his support and endorsement of the strengthening of India's relations with America. This event is about strengthening those ties." It will not be the first time Modi, has addressed a large crowd in the United States, which is home to about 4 million Indian-Americans including about 300,000 in Houston and nearby Dallas, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of US Census data. Some 19,000 people turned out for a similar event in New York in 2014, and Indian-American volunteers living in US suburbs helped run a telephone blitz of voters in India in the runup to his May reelection campaign. "Modi's coming here shows the importance of the Indian-American diaspora for him," Dawra said. "We will show him on Sunday the enthusiasm the diaspora has for his leadership." Kashmir crackdown Modi's visit to Houston comes ahead of this week's UN General Assembly in New York and amid a particularly tense time on the subcontinent. The Indian leader further strained long-simmering relations with Pakistan last month by revoking the partial autonomy enjoyed by Muslim-majority Kashmir. Modi's move has been met by international criticism. Pakistan has condemned the crackdown and its Prime Minister Imran Khan warned it would drive more of the world's Muslims into extremism. Members of India's religious minority Sikh and Muslim groups are planning noisy gatherings near the stadium to protest Modi's Kashmir policy. The US-India relationship on trade and tariffs is rocky right now, though Trump and Modi appear to have strong personal ties. But Devesh Kapur, director of Asia Programs at Johns Hopkins University, who has written a book on Indian-Americans, said that while the rally would certainly have symbolic value for both leaders, "it's unlikely by itself to impact thorny trade issues ... but it can't hurt." Kapur also forecast little improvement regarding Trump's standing with Indian-Americans. "The Trump administration's hard-line policies on immigration ... have hardly endeared (him) to the community," Kapur said. The Indian government's move to revoke Article 370 that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir has a "national security connotation", External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Friday, while emphasising that the country "lives in a tough neighbourhood" and faces more than its fair share of national security challenges.

Addressing the Finnish Institute of International Affairs (FIIA), the minister, in an apparent reference to Pakistan, said that the most prominent national security challenge that India has been subjected to for many decades is the "cross border terrorism", which has cost more than 40,000 lives in the past 3 decades.

"We are opposed to terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and believe there is no justification for it, whatsoever. But it is not just enough to have a position. When subjected to terrorist attacks, any polity that is sincerely committed to the welfare of its people will surely respond," Jaishankar said.

"And indeed, that is precisely what we have done in recent years. Even the changes that were approved last month by the Indian Parliament with respect to Jammu and Kashmir, while driven by the needs of governance and development, and have a national security connotation," he added.

Referring to Pakistan, Jaishankar said that the epicentre of terrorism is "right in our neighbourhood. But even as we take our responsive measures, our belief is that this is not just a concern for one country but for the entire international community."
