BJP leader Basavaraj Ingin on Monday said that there is no border dispute between Karnataka and Maharashtra, and added that it is the handiwork of Maratha politicians.

"There is no border dispute between Maharashtra and Karnataka. The Maratha politicians are trying to raise the issue just to gain public sympathy for their party. They have always been doing this. Once a personality goes down in degree, they create some issue. They just want to divert the attention of the people of Maharashtra," Ingin told media.

"The matter was already decided by the Mahajan Commission report. It was earlier under legal scrutiny which has been completed by now," he added.

Earlier in the day, amid tensions between Karnataka and neighbouring Maharashtra over the border issue with protests on both sides, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa urged people of the state to maintain peace stating that 'not a single piece of land' would be given away.

The protests in Karnataka and Maharashtra have led to the cancellation of bus services between the two states.

On Sunday, Shiv Sena activists had launched a protest near the Kolhapur bus stand and burnt an effigy of Yediyurappa. This came after protesters in Belagavi burnt an effigy of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

The agitation was in reaction to Eknath Shinde and Chhagan Bhujbal being appointed as coordinating ministers, to look into the issue of Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute.

On December 7, Thackeray had chaired a high-level meeting over the border dispute between two states.

It was decided in the meeting that attempts will be made to get fast track hearing in Supreme Court on this issue.

SpiceJet flight SG-8901, Delhi to Aurangabad, was delayed by almost five hours. Passengers were allegedly boarded inside the aircraft around 5:15 am.

"We are like a prisoner inside the SpiceJet aircraft. No one is giving exact timing for take-off. The crew of the aircraft announced that due to bad weather we are unable to take off now. When passengers urged to be taken to airport premises, the crew denied to de-board passengers," a traveller, named Pawan Gupta told media.

However clarifying the issue, SpiceJet stated, "Due to Bad weather flight was delayed."

Over 500 flights are delayed, 21 diverted and 5 cancelled due to poor visibility at Delhi airport as of now.

Normal operation at Delhi airport is affected as only CATIII B compliant pilots and aircraft can land at Delhi airport. Few flights were diverted as pilots of concerned flights are not CATIII B compliant.

"Due to bad weather, flight operations at Delhi Airport are affected. CATIII B compliant aircraft and pilots are currently able to land. Passengers are requested to stay in touch with the airline concerned for update flight info. Any inconveniences caused regretted." DIAL said.

The roads in front of DMK leaders homes are now sporting a new look, it has got nothing to do with the year-end, but it is in protest against the contentious CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act).

The homes of late DMK patriarch Karunanidhi, his son MK Stalin (DMK Chief) and his daughter Kanimozhi(Lok Sabha MP) have had Kolams (rangolis) adorning the areas outside their gates. However, the traditional Kolam also had messages of protest against the CAA and NRC- they read “NO CAA - NO NRC.”

While kolam is a traditional form of drawing done on the front porch of one's home, every morning using rice flour or chalk powder, it had taken on a different dimension, as a symbol of protest on Sunday.

According to activists, 6 women were detained in a community hall on Sunday morning by J5 Shastri Nagar Police for drawing anti-CAA kola’s in the upscale Besant nagar locality. Three advocates who had gone to get the women released were also said to be detained by the police. They were released later in the day.

Police have maintained that the protesters had informed them that they wanted to draw kolams with anti-CAA/NRC messages near the Besant Nagar bus terminus between 7 am and 10 am. But the permission for the same was not granted.

Cases were registered under Sections 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly) and 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) against the group.

Reacting to Sunday’s incident, MK Stalin tweeted, “This is a clear example that the authoritarianism of the AIADMK is increasing day by day.” He added that the detention of the women was in violation of their right to freedom of speech and expression guaranteed under the fundamental rights of the Constitution. He demanded that the case against them be withdrawn.

The DMK has rallied together with the Left outfits and other small parties here in their fight against the CAA and in expressing solidarity with those that have been raising their voices against the contentious bill.

The DMK and the Congress in Tamil Nadu have raised questions over why the CAA ignores the plight of Tamils who are a persecuted minority in Sri Lanka, while it considers minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

The DMK had staged a protest in Chennai and nearby districts over two weeks ago and later conducted an anti-CAA rally in Chennai along with their allies and like-minded parties. DMK President Stalin had asserted that their protests would continue until the Central government revoked the CAA.

However, the Central government and Tamil Nadu’s AIADMK government have repeatedly insisted that the CAA does not affect Indian citizens, adding that people must not pay attention to the rumours being spread to foment trouble.

Union Minister for Minorities, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, on Saturday, sought "immediate action" against a UP cop who purportedly asked Muslims to "go to Pakistan" during a protest.

Union Minister for Minorities, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, on Saturday, sought "immediate action" against a UP cop who purportedly asked Muslims to "go to Pakistan" during a protest. " If it is true that he made that statement in the video, then it is condemnable. Immediate action must be taken against him," Naqvi told media here in response to a question on the incident. In a viral video, a police officer was seen abusing and asking Muslims to go to Pakistan during an anti-CAA protest in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Violence at any level, be it by police or by mob, is unacceptable. It can't be a part of a democratic country. Police should take care that those who are innocent should not suffer, Naqvi added. Meerut ADG Prashant Kumar, however, defended the cop saying that he was trying to control the violent situation as the protesters were raising slogans hailing the neighbouring country. "It is clear from the video that stones were being pelted, anti-India slogans and slogans hailing the neighbouring country were raised by the protestors at the spot. The officer only asked them to stop pelting stones and they can go there (Pakistan) if they wanted to," Kumar told ANI.

There is no proposal of implementation of nationwide National Register of Citizens (NRC) right now, said Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday.

Addressing a public gathering during an event, Prasad said, "Section 14A of India`s Citizenship Act says that there would be a National Register of Citizens. And the citizens will be provided with an identity card. It was implemented from December 3, 2004. Manmohan Singh government enforced this law. When you do it then it is right and if we do it then wrong. There is no proposal of NRC right now (nationwide)."

He continued, "For NRC according to Rule 4 of law, a date will be given first then there will be a list. The objection will be taken and there would be hearings. And everyone has the right to appeal. Nobody is talking about what Prime Minister Narendra Modi said."

His remarks came after Opposition alleged that the National Population Register (NPR) is the first step towards pan-India NRC.

However, Union Minister Amit Shah had denied any link between the two exercises. On December 22, Prime Minister Modi had said that the NRC is not discussed within the government.

Attacking the Opposition over criticising the Modi government, he said, "In a debate held on the census in Lok Sabha on 7 May 2010, the then Home Minister Chidambaram sahab said they were preparing National Population Register (NPR) and NRC would be created from it. Mulayam Singh Yadav, Lalu Yadav, and Sharad Yadav were part of the debate, nobody opposed it."

The minister reiterated said that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, does not apply to Indian citizens.

"We respect the opposition and peaceful protests. But action will be taken against those who talk about dividing the country," he added.

The Indian Navy is planning to build a fleet of 18 conventional and six nuclear attack submarines as part of its plans for its underwater fleet.

"Eighteen (Conventional) plus six SSN (nuclear-powered attack) submarines are planned but the existing strength is 15 and 1 SSN is available on lease," the Standing Committee on Defence said in its report tabled in the winter session of Parliament.

The Indian Navy had planned to build six nuclear attack submarines along with the Arihant Class SSBNs which are nuclear-powered submarines equipped with nuclear missiles.

The nuclear attack submarines are also planned to be built indigenously in partnership with private sector industries.

At present, the Navy is operating Russian-origin Kilo Class, German-origin HDW class and the latest French Scorpene-class submarines in the conventional domain while in the nuclear section, it has leased one INS Chakra (Akula class) from Russia.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday lauded Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) as the bravest force in the world at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Directorate General building of CRPF.

"The Director-General of CRPF Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar said that it is a proud occasion for CRPF as the foundation stone of the Directorate General building of the organisation is being laid today. It is also a proud occasion for me. CRPF is not only the world`s biggest armed force, but it is also the bravest armed force in the world," Shah said while addressing the officers and jawans of CRPF.

Praising the valour and selfless service of the jawans of CRPF, Shah said, "If someone goes through the history of CRPF, one will observe many inspirational chapters. Till now 2,184 Jawans of CRPF have sacrificed their lives for the cause of their country."

The Home Minister recounted some of the landmark battles fought by CRPF in the past.

"The Hot Spring battle that CRPF fought on October 21, 1959, is etched in our memories. Only 10 Jawans of the CRPF faced a battalion of Chinese forces with valour and sacrificed their lives. Due to that reason, October 21 is observed as a Memorial day by the entire police force of the country," he said.

"CRPF faced the Pakistani forces in the 1965 war at the Sardar Post in the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat with bravery. CRPF foiled the attack and drove the Pakistani forces away from there," he added.

Shah credited CRPF for tackling internal security challenges with efficiency.

"The 80s and 90s saw insurgency in some parts of the country. The CRPF dealt with this situation with courage. They helped bring peace to Punjab and North-East," he said.

Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Singh Yadav on Sunday said that the BJP cannot decide on anyone`s citizenship and added that he will not fill National Population Register (NPR) form.

"Samajwadis want to save the Constitution. On the other hand, BJP wants to abolish the Constitution. Much of this pretence is done to divert attention. Do young people want employment or NPR?" Yadav said while addressing a gathering of party`s student wing leaders.

"No one from BJP can decide whether we are citizens or not. If the need arises, I will be the first one who will not fill any form, but the question is you will support or not. We will not fill the NPR form. What will you do? NRC and NPR are against poor and minority," he said.

NPR snowballed into conspiracy after Opposition parties alleged that NPR is the first step towards the creation of the National Register Citizens (NRIC).

However, Union Home Minister Amit Shah denied any link between the two exercises.

Yadav claimed that more than 300 BJP MLAs are angry with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

"Samajwadis are not afraid of FIR. When the Chief Minister himself withdraws the cases filed against him, then the cases filed against you will also be withdrawn if the Samajwadi government is formed," he added.

The Samajwadi Party president said that BJP is responsible for the current economic crisis.

"Demonetisation caused problems for small businesses. Further, the businesses are closing down due to the imposition of GST. The economy has reached the ICU. For all this, BJP is responsible," he said.

Several people sustained stab wounds at a Jewish place of worship in upstate New York late Saturday night, news agency AFP reported quoting a public affairs group said.

Several people sustained stab wounds at a Jewish place of worship in upstate New York late Saturday night, news agency AFP reported quoting a public affairs group said. "At 9:50 this eve, a call came in about a mass stabbing... It's the house of a Hasidic Rabbi. 5 patients with stab wounds, all Hasidic, were transported to local hospitals," the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council (OJPAC) tweeted. Two people were reportedly in critical condition, OJPAC added. CBS New York reported that a man brandishing a machete went into the rabbi's property in Monsey, New York State, an area with a large Jewish population, during a Hanukkah celebration and stabbed at least three people before fleeing. Yossi Gestetner, a co-founder of the OJPAC for the Hudson Valley region, told the New York Times one of the victims was a son of the rabbi. "The house had many dozens of people in there," Gestetner said. "It was a Hanukkah celebration." Saturday's stabbing follows a shooting earlier this month at a kosher deli in a New York suburb that authorities said was fueled in part by anti-Semitism. Six people were killed in the Jersey City attack, including the two suspects. (With inputs from AFP)
