AAP leader Narayan Dutt Sharma on Wednesday accused Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia of asking him to shell out Rs 10 crore to get party ticket from Badarpur constituency.

A Delhi court on Wednesday granted bail to Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad in connection with the Daryaganj violence case.

The court has ordered him not to hold any protest in Delhi till February 16th.

While hearing the case, the Judge had asked Azad's counsel to read out some of his social media posts.

Advocate Mehmood Pracha, representing Azad, had on Tuesday said that the petitioner was sent to jail without any evidence in connection with anti-CAA protests in Delhi's Darya Ganj area last year.

"I think the court's comments should become a precedent for the country. The Public Prosecutor at the behest of police tried to make this a communal issue. We told the court that the government has a problem with Azad because he made the CAA-NPR-NRC an issue for everyone. The Court also sought evidence," Pracha told ANI after Delhi's Tis Hazari court deferred the bail plea of Azad till today.

On Wednesday, the court pulled up the Delhi Police for failing to show any evidence against Azad.

Azad was arrested on December 21 last year after he led a march from Jama Masjid against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

He was sent to judicial custody till January 18 at Tihar jail.

Calling India a "key partner" of Afghanistan, the country's NSA Hamdullah Mohib on Wednesday said that opening of air freight corridor has "increased" trade between New Delhi and Kabul.

"With India, we have increased trade significantly, by opening the air trade corridor. India has been a key partner, able to recognise and share our vision for a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan," said Mohib during an event in Delhi.

India and Afghanistan established first air freight corridor connecting Kabul to New Delhi in June 2017, with an aim to improve landlocked Afghanistan's connectivity to key markets abroad and boost the growth prospects of its dry fruits and carpet industries.

The decision to open the air corridor was taken during the 2016 visit of Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani.

While talking about the condition in Afghanistan, Mohib asserted that a ceasefire is the only solution to bring peace in the war-torn nation, adding that the Afghan government looks 2020 with hope.

"In the midst of conflict, we continue to think positively and creatively. We continue to passionately and practically pursue peace. We continue to strengthen our democracy. We look to this year with hope," Mohib said.

"A ceasefire is necessary to create a conducive environment for talks. Violence and terrorism have no constituencies in Afghanistan," he added.

Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu on Wednesday said that normal communication channels will be opened in the region after a review.

"We are reviewing continuously, and accordingly we are relaxing everything. In the coming days, normal communication technology and communications channels will be opened," Murmu told reporters here after the administration issued orders for partial restoration of internet services in the Union Territory from Wednesday.

When asked whether he is satisfied with normalcy returning to Jammu and Kashmir, the Lieutenant Governor said, "Definitely, the situation is normal in Jammu and other parts. People are now participating in development."

Earlier on Tuesday, the Jammu and Kashmir administration issued orders to partially allow 2G mobile connectivity on postpaid mobiles for accessing white-listed sites in five districts of Jammu region-- Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and Reasi from January 15.

The administration also allowed broadband internet services in hotels, educational institutions and travel establishments in the Union Territory.

According to the order issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Home Department, the Kashmir division will establish an additional 400 internet kiosks.

The order came days after the Supreme Court, on January 10, directed to review all orders suspending internet services in Jammu and Kashmir and stated that the "right to access the internet is a fundamental right under Article 19 of the constitution".

The Central government had suspended the internet in the region following the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, which conferred special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated it into two Union Territories -- Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that US President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and the Islamic State are "celebrating" the death of Soleimani.

"The US looks at things from their perspective, not from the perspective of this region. The killing of Qassem Soleimani shows ignorance and arrogance. 430 Indian cities saw protests against the killing of Soleimani," he said.

Talking about Iran's airstrikes at two military bases in Iraq, Zarif maintained that Tehran retaliated in "self-defence" and rebuffed Washington's claims that Soleimani was planning to attack US embassies.

Soleimani, the head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards' elite Quds Force, was killed in a US drone strike ordered by President Donald Trump at Baghdad International Airport on January 3.

On Sunday, Deputy Superintendent of Police Davinder Singh was arrested by Jammu and Kashmir police while he was travelling with two Hizbul terrorists.

According to reports, the investigation has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency.

Earlier in the day, NIA Director-General met Union Home secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla pertaining to an investigation of the case, news agency ANI reported citing sources.

The police have already set up a special investigation team which is headed by DIG South Kashmir Atul Goyal, who spent a long time with the NIA before returning to his home cadr.

The security forces are also seeing the CCTV footage taken from the Srinagar airport and have sent his mobile phone for the forensic investigation to get more clues. All this may open up more possible links of an officer with terrorists or accomplices.

According to sources, Davinder was on the radar of security forces from quite some time.

In 2019, he took Hizb-ul-Mujahideen Commander Syed Naveed alias Babu to Jammu successfully where they stayed at Sidra area and later dropped him back as well. In what is being regarded as one of the largest haul of foreign currency that was meant to be smuggled out of the country, customs officials at the Chennai airport seized 2.32 lakh USD that is worth Rs. 1.64 lakh crores.

On Monday night, based on information that an attempt will be made to smuggle out foreign currency in large quantity from Chennai airport, Air Intelligence officers maintained a special vigil at the departure terminal.

Early Tuesday morning three passengers Abubakkar(39), Abdul Kader (30) and Firoz (45) from Chennai, who were bound for Bangkok by Thai Airways flight TG 338, were intercepted by AIU officers after they had cleared Immigration and were proceeding towards Security hold area, as they appeared to be nervous and walking in a rather hurried manner.

On being questioned whether they had high-value currency to declare, they answered in the negative. On further enquiry and search 1.10 lakh USD was recovered from the backpack and 3700 USD from Abubakar's pant pocket. Abdul Kader was found having 57000 USD in his backpack and 3000 USD in his pant pocket. 59000 USD were recovered from Firoz's backpack.

This is basically like hawala money and the modus operandi is such that the three couriers who are being used don't know their handlers. We have learnt that they were handed the bags outside the airport by unknown persons (who identified them using photos) and they were meant to deliver the same to unknown persons in bangkok who would approach them after identifying based on their photos."

The dollars were in their highest denomination -of 100. The currency was ingeniously kept concealed in a special cavity in the backpacks which was not easily detectable.

On questioning, they informed that the currency was handed over to them by some unknown person outside the airport. All three appeared to be part of the same gang.

India’s way is not to be disruptive and it is more of a decider than an abstainer, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on January 15 in New Delhi. Addressing a gathering at the Raisina Dialogue Jaishankar referred to tensions between the US and Iran saying they are two individualistic countries and what finally happened would depend on the players involved.

WION Dispatch: India's FM S Jaishankar defines India's evolving role in New Delhi

Just days after the Iranian army shot down a Ukranian Boeing 737 aircraft, foreign minister Javad Zarif speaking at the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi said it occurred due to a "crisis"

"People make mistakes, unforgivable mistakes but it happened at a time of crisis," Zarif said, adding, "We need to make sure these crises are prevented," referring to the US drone strikes and Iran's consequent retaliatory strikes during which the Iranian Army mistakenly shot down the Boeing airliner.

"I and the president did not know until Friday afternoon and we made sure people knew either Friday night or Saturday morning and we managed to do that," the Iranian foreign minister conceded.

"Our military force was brave enough to claim responsibility, in fact, we did it quite early because in other instances it has taken several years but people are angry even with those two days, that is the expectation the people have with the government," he said.

Zarif blamed the US for violating Iraq's sovereignty while attacking Sulemani, stating that it was an act of "ignorance and arrogance".

On the US allegation of Iran possessing "proxies", Zarif said: "The US talks about proxies, do we have proxies in India? The proxies we have in Iraq number in the millions because millions came on the streets of Iraq to commemorate General Sulemani."

"In Iran, people can state their views, sometimes they express it in excessive ways, sometimes their reaction is excessive. The fact is people have been demonstrating for the last few days since they were allowed to in the last few days," he said while explaining the demonstration in the aftermath of the Boeing crash after Iranians poured into the streets chanting anti-government slogans.

Zarif said he had spoken to Russian foreign minister on a peace deal, saying: "I had proposed a non-aggression pact last year which he was kind enough to welcome. Our president had also proposed a peace agreement at the UN which was basically a "replica" of Helsinki - a basket of principle which includes non-intervention, non-interference, peaceful settlement of disputes, non-aggression including a set of confidence-building measures."

"Our arms expenditure is the lowest in the region. Saudi Arabia spent $67 billion on its military last year, our total was $16 billion, so we are all for cutting down in military expenditure and arms control which can be part of the package we call "hope" because we need hope in the region."

"We need to get rid of this dispair of young people in the region looking at an unclear future, that has to change," he said.

He said it was a "historic step" which has "disrupted the proxy war by the western neighbour", referring to Pakistan.

"Abrogation of article 370 is a historic step which will connect Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country. The decision has adversely affected the plans of western neighbour and its proxies," Army Chief said.

"We have zero-tolerance against terrorism. We have many options to give a reply to terrorists and will not hesitate to use them," Naravane added.

While addressing the Army personnel during the parade, Naravane lauded the force saying it is increasing its capabilities in space, cyber, special operations and electronic warfare.

"We are also eyeing on future forms of battle. In the 21st century, the creation of integrated battle groups is an important step," Naravane said.

Naravane also said that there will be a demand of high-level operation preparedness in the coming time.

"Indian Army is ready to face challenges today and is capable to face expectation of the future," Naravane added.

The government in its arguement had said they cannot be hanged on January 22 since mercy petition filed by Mukesh Singh was pending and that it was bound by law to wait before moving ahead with the death warrant.

"It can only take place 14 days after the mercy plea is rejected as we are bound by the rule which says that a notice of 14 days must be provided to the convicts after the rejection of mercy plea," advocate Rahul Mehra appearing for Tihar Jail authorities, said.

He further stated that fate of a death convict comes to finality only after his mercy plea is rejected by the President.

Supreme Court on Tuesday had dismissed curative petitions of the two convicts - Vinay Sharma and Mukesh Singh, who had appealed the death sentence.

Asha Devi, the mother of the deceased gangrape victim told ANI: "Either lawyers of the convicts are trying to delay execution or our system is blind & is supporting criminals."

"I'm struggling for the last seven years. Instead of asking me, you should ask the government if convicts will be hanged on Jan 22 or not," she said.
