India is the world's largest producer of hydroxychloroquine, sales of which have soared across the world including in the United States, especially after President Donald Trump touted it as a potential weapon against coronavirus.

New Delhi had last month put a hold on exports of hydroxychloroquine to secure supplies for itself, before agreeing this month to supply it to some of its neighbours as well as "nations who have been particularly badly affected by the pandemic".

"On 14 April, India has given permission for Malaysia to import 89,100 tablets," Malaysia's Deputy Foreign Minister Kamarudin Jaffar told Reuters on Wednesday.

Malaysia had asked for more than one million hydroxychloroquine tablets from India. It has been using hydroxychloroquine for mild to severe COVID-19 cases along with other drugs.

The coronavirus pandemic has created an atmosphere of fear and misinformation. From homemade cure to temperature and weather-related myths have made it to the list of misinformations.

One of the biggest myths about COVID-19 is that the virus is heat sensitive and hence won’t spread much in areas that are not typically cold.

But the fact is, the spread of COVID-19 is not necessarily hampered by either cold or hot weather.

Some other viruses, like the common cold and flu, spread more during cold weather months but that does not mean it is impossible to become sick with these viruses during other months.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that “There is no reason to believe that cold weather can kill the new coronavirus or other diseases. The normal human body temperature remains around 36.5°C to 37°C, regardless of the external temperature or weather."

WHO's official website claims, "You can catch COVID-19, no matter how sunny or hot the weather is. Countries with hot weather have reported cases of COVID-19. To protect yourself, make sure you clean your hands frequently and thoroughly and avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose. "

The experts said COVID-19 spreads through human contact. The mass gathering has to be avoided and people need to take precautions like washing hands.

Some other viruses, like the common cold and flu, spread more during cold weather months but that does not mean it is impossible to become sick with these viruses during other months. The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that “There is no reason to believe that cold weather can kill the new coronavirus or other diseases. The normal human body temperature remains around 36.5°C to 37°C, regardless of the external temperature or weather." WHO's official website claims, "You can catch COVID-19, no matter how sunny or hot the weather is. Countries with hot weather have reported cases of COVID-19. To protect yourself, make sure you clean your hands frequently and thoroughly and avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose. " The experts said COVID-19 spreads through human contact. The mass gathering has to be avoided and people need to take precautions like washing hands.

Myth buster: No correlation between temperature variations and coronavirus spread

Monsoon is expected to be normal in rainfall season, the India Meteorological Department said on Wednesday in its forecast.

"This year we will have a normal monsoon. Quantitatively the monsoon rainfall, during the monsoon season 2020, is expected to be 100% of its long period average with an error of +5 or -5% due to model error," said Madhavan Rajeevan, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).

India is reeling from COVID 19 pandemic and a bad monsoon could affect the agrarian supply chain. The Indian government has already relaxed rules for agrarian workers so that grains can be harvested.

A good monsoon can buffer inflation and ensure availability of grain in rural areas. It also ensures that farmers retain purchasing power which has got seriously affected because of a nationwide lockdown.

The year 2019 witnessed a normal monsoon season while in 2018, the monsoon registered a 9% deficit.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued the first stage Long Range Forecast (LRF) for the south-west Monsoon season (June-September) rainfall through online video conferencing and live streaming from the national capital as part of social distancing measures put in place in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The LRF is the operational monsoon season forecast issued by the weather department from June to September for the entire country. This forecast, however, does not include regional level rainfall or specify quantum rainfall for the forecast period each year, the MeT department issues LRF in two stages.

The first stage forecast is issued in April and the second one is issued in June. These forecasts are issued using Statistical Ensemble Forecasting System (SEFS) and dynamical coupled Ocean-Atmospheric models.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday termed as unfortunate the gathering of migrant workers outside the Bandra railway station and stressed such incidents should not recur in the face of the COVID-19 crisis.

He said people gathered outside the station after somebody circulated the rumour that trains services will resume, adding precautions need to be taken to ensure that such confusing messages are checked.

The former Union minister also urged political parties to desist from scoring points over each other during the ongoing crisis and asked them to defeat COVID-19 collectively.

An unfortunate incident took place outside the Bandra station yesterday. Somebody spread the rumour that train services will resume and local people gathered there. Unfortunately, social distancing was not observed, Pawar said in a Facebook address.

"I would also request political parties that we may fight politically but this is not the time to score over each other. It is not the time to think who is in power at the Centre and in the state. We should take steps to defeat the coronavirus, he said.

Ignoring lockdown norms, over 1,000 migrant workers who earn daily wages gathered here on Tuesday demanding transport arrangements to go back to their native places, hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended the coronavirus-enforced curbs till May 3.

The gathering in suburban Bandra, in violation of lockdown norms, created a potential law and order situation for an overstretched police force and the men in uniform resorted to mild force to scatter the crowd.
