Shopping malls in India's Gurugram, Noida receive bomb threats

Shopping malls in India's Gurugram received a bomb threat on Saturday (Aug 17) morning, prompting evacuations and searches by law enforcement agencies.

Speaking to the news agency ANI,Mohit Sharma, Chief Civil Defence Team, Gurugram, said that the district administration received a bomb threat to all the malls in Gurugram via email at around 10 am.

"After receiving the email, the district administration started search operations in the malls. Police administration, dog squad, civil defence team are engaged in the search," Sharma added.

Gurugram's Ambience Mall receives threat

The Ambience Mall in Gurugram, which is a prominent shopping area in the district, received an email in which the sender claimed he had planted bombs to kill everyone on the premises.

A security mock drill in Noida

Media reports earlier suggested that Noida's famous DLF Mall of India received such a threat and people inside the mall were evacuated. However, the police clarified that it was a security mock drill.

"A security mock drill was conducted in DLF mall," Noida's Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP)Ram Badan Singh said.

"These kinds of drills are conducted to conduct checks in large areas to make sure that no one is in danger. Fire services, dog squad, and police teams participated in the drill...," DCP Singh added.
