'Fugitive' liquor baron Vijay Mallya on Monday said that he regrets being in the current situation where he has to deal with legal work, news agency ANI reported.
On being asked if he regrets going to the United Kingdom, Mallya said that he regrets "being in a situation where I’m reading legal papers and paying legal fees."
He added that he could have done something more productive with his time.
"At the end of the day, that’s what the courts are for, that’s how lawyers thrive. Do I regret being in a situation where I’m reading legal papers and paying legal fees? Yes, I do. I could have done something more productive with my time," Mallya said.
UK's Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday ordered liquor baron Vijay Mallya's extradition to India.
According to reports, Mallya has 14 days to appeal his extradition in High Court. He will be extradited within a month if he loses appeal. Mallya has an option to move the European Court of Justice.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) welcomed the UK court's verdict.
Union Minister Arun Jaitley called it a "great day for India" signalling that "no one who cheats India will go scot free."
