Delhi court extends Arvind Kejriwal and Kavitha's judicial custody till May 7

Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday (Apr 23) extended the judicial custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till May 7 in the money laundering case connected to the liquor policy scam.
The court also extended Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha's custody till May 7 in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case related to the excise policy.
Special judge for CBI and ED matters Kaveri Baweja passed the order as all the accused were produced virtually before the court from Tihar Jail on the expiry of their remand.
The judge also asked that both Kejriwal and Kavitha should be produced before the court on May 7 at 2:00 pm (IST) via video conferencing.
Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) alleged fund manager for Goa elections Chanpreet Singh's custody was also extended by the Court till May 7. He was nabbed in connection with the money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.

Arvind Kejriwal arrest
Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a case pertaining to alleged corruption and money laundering in formulating and executing the Delhi government's excise policy.
The Delhi government had implemented the policy on November 17, 2021. But it was scrapped at the end of September 2022. Corruption allegations were levelled against the party, which AAP denies.

The investigating agencies have said that the profit margins of wholesalers were increased from 5 per cent to 12 per cent under the new policy.
The agencies have alleged that the new policy resulted in cartelisation and those ineligible for liquor licences were favoured for monetary benefits.
The Delhi chief minister even challenged his arrest by the ED, but it was rejected by Delhi High Court.
