The political tug-of-war over the iconic "TRS" acronym has reached a critical stage. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a notice to K. Kavitha’s newly formed party, Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS), directing them to propose three alternative names within 15 days.

What kind of statement is this from a responsible chief minister? Such remarks might rightly create apprehension among the people. Is this how a constitutional official should speak?”

The bench added, “Why should political rivalries involve the court? Do we issue orders based on consultations with political parties? We are not concerned with political criticism of our decisions. We act according to our conscience and oath.”

The judges said, “We have always stated that we do not interfere in legislative matters, and we expect the same from others. Do we issue orders based on political considerations?”

The Supreme Court was considering a petition to transfer the trial of the 2015 cash-for-vote scam case, where Reddy is an accused, from Telangana to Bhopal.

Reddy had suggested there were suspicions about why MLC Kavitha was granted bail within five months, while Manish Sisodia got reprieve in 15 months and Arvind Kejriwal is still awaiting bail. Reddy told reporters, “It is evident that BRS supported BJP’s victory in the 2024 LS elections. There are also claims that Kavitha’s bail resulted from a deal between BRS and BJP.”

The Supreme Court on Tuesday (August 27) granted conditional bail to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha, who was arrested earlier this year in connection with the Delhi liquor policy scam. In their ruling, Justices Gavai and Viswanathan noted that Kavitha, like Sisodia, had already spent over five months in jail and that the trial was unlikely to commence soon, even though the investigation had concluded.&nbsp;

The court also said that the law provides special consideration for women when reviewing bail applications. Delhi liquor policy scam case: After Manish Sisodia, BRS leader K. Kavitha granted bail

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday filed a new chargesheet in the Delhi excise policy case, listing K Kavitha, the leader of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, among other alleged associates.

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi who was granted temporary bail on Friday, is not included in the most recent chargesheet, which is the sixth the ED has released so far in the case. But according to officials, a supplementary&nbsp;chargesheet will be filed against him next week.

Kavitha was taken into custody on March 16. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a case pertaining to alleged corruption and money laundering in formulating and executing the Delhi government's excise policy.&nbsp;

Delhi court extends Arvind Kejriwal and Kavitha's judicial custody till May 7

While seeking Kavitha's custodial remand, CBI said to the court that one of the firms under Aurbindo Group made a payment of Rs 14 crore via a bank transaction in July 2021.&nbsp;

The BRS leader's attorneys opposed CBI's remand application and argued that the arrest by the central probe agency was without any approval, permission or imprimatur of the Court.

"K Kavitha was lying in custody in the PMLA case. This Court is exercising distinct jurisdiction in the capacity of Special Judge (PMLA) vis-a-vis Special Judge (CBI). Both jurisdictions cannot overlap and the CBI cannot use them to violate the procedures established by law," the lawyers submitted.

The BRS leader penned a note from prison on Tuesday (Apr 9) alleging that the probe by the central agencies has meddled with her reputation and has also invaded her privacy.

Being a woman politician, I am the most victimized in the process, severely denting my personal and political reputation. My personal mobile phone number was displayed on all television channels, directly invading my privacy," the letter stated.

The letter further claimed that more than 90 per cent of the cases of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) were filed against the opposition leaders and that the investigation is abruptly put to a halt once the accused joins the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

"On the floor of the Parliament, BJP leaders openly threaten opposition saying "Chup ho jaao, warna ED bhej dunga." In this dire situation, Madam Justice, the opposition parties are looking up to the judiciary with great hope to give us respite," Kavitha said in her letter.

"I have time and again cooperated with both the agencies. I have appeared before them four times. I have answered all their questions to the best of my knowledge and gave all my bank and business details. I will fully have cooperated with the agencies by submitting all of my mobile phones that the agencies blamed me for destroying. In the last two and a half years of investigation, both the agencies conducted multiple raids, physically and mentally harassed, threatened and arrested many people," she&nbsp;further alleged.

Kavitha was arrested following a raid at her Hyderabad residence by the ED in March.

The agency further said that Kavitha "has not given true and complete disclosure and has not cooperated with the investigation".

Kavitha has filed for interim bail on grounds of her minor son's school exams.

She was arrested on March 15 by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case.

While extending the police custody, Special Judge Kaveri Baweja sought the probe agency's response to the bail plea moved for Kavitha.

The ED has alleged that Kavitha, who is former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's daughter, was one of the significant members of the 'South Group' that is accused of paying the Aam Aadmi Party recompenses worth Rs 100 crore in exchange for a massive share of liquor licences in Delhi.

"Further, K Kavitha and her associates were to recover the proceeds of crime paid in advance to AAP and to generate profits/proceeds of crime from this entire conspiracy," stated ED.

After producing Kavitha in court, the investigation agency stated that she was confronted with the statements of four people along with a forensic report of the data that was extracted from her phone.&nbsp;

The Enforcement Directorate alleged on Monday that K Kavitha, a leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), conspired with top leaders including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to pay ₹1&nbsp;billion&nbsp;($12 million).&nbsp;

According to an ED statement, "Kavitha along with others "conspired with the top leaders of AAP including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia for getting favours in the Delhi excise policy-formulation and implementation."

"In exchange of these favours, she was involved in paying&nbsp;₹100 crore to the leaders of AAP," the agency added.

Last week, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) apprehended the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who remains in the agency's custody until March 23. According to the ED, "corruption and conspiracy" in the development and execution of Delhi's excise policy resulted in "a consistent flow of illicit funds in the guise of kickbacks from wholesalers" to the AAP.

The Enforcement Directorate claimed that the 45-year-old BRS leader and her associates were intended to retrieve the pre-paid proceeds of illegal activity given to the AAP and to subsequently generate profits or proceeds of crime through this comprehensive scheme.

<h2>‘Kavitha a key conspirator,’ says&nbsp;ED</h2>

During the request for remand of the BRS MLC, the ED informed the special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court that Kavitha was identified as "one of the masterminds, a pivotal conspirator, and a beneficiary of the Delhi excise policy scandal."

Kavitha had previously stated that she had not engaged in any wrongdoing and accused the Centre of utilising the ED due to the BJP's failure to gain entry into Telangana indirectly. The AAP has accused the BJP of employing the ED and CBI as their "enforcers" to eliminate political adversaries.

"South Group" includes Telangana MLC Kavitha, Sarath Reddy (promoter of Aurobindo Group), Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy (MP, Ongole), his son Raghav Magunta, and others, said the investigation agency.

The South Group was being represented by Pillai, Abhishek Boinpalli and Butchi Babu, said the federal agency in its probe.
