BJP's 3rd candidates list out:Ahead of the upcoming Indian general elections in 2024, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its third list of candidates in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.
Among the prominent individuals announced is Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai, the firebrand candidate of the party from the state, a DMK bastion where BJP has been failing to secure a victory.
Annamalai will be contesting from Coimbatore, where Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently held a roadshow.Additionally, former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has been nominated for the Chennai (South) constituency. Also, Union Minister L Murugan will represent Nilgiris, and Nainar Nagendran has been selected for Tirunelveli.The names of the candidates were selected by the Central Election Committee (CEC) of the party.

As per the seat-sharing done by the alliance, 20 seats are for BJP, 10 for the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), one each for Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi (IJK) and New Justice Party (NJP), three for TMC, twofor Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazhagam (AMMK), and two other smaller parties. Notably, Tamil Nadu has a total of 39 Lok Sabha constituencies.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu, the BJP, in alliance with the AIADMK and PMK, failed to secure a single seat. The saffron party had wonthe Kanyakumari Lok Sabha constituency in 2014.

The DMK-led alliance emerged victorious in 38 out of 39 seats during the 2019 general polls, while the AIADMK-led alliance, comprising BJP and PMK among others, only managed to secure one seat.

The Congress, an ally of the DMK, clinched the lone Lok Sabha seat inPuducherry. Tamil Nadu is scheduled to go for polls on April 19 in a single-phase elections.
