BJP is committed to implementing Assam Accord and setting up of a committee for implementation of its Clause 6 is a step in that direction, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Modi was addressing a public rally in Changsari, Assam.

Allaying people's fear on theCitizenship bill, Modi said it would not harm Assam and northeast, and added,only after necessary investigation and recommendation of the state government can the decision of giving someone citizenship be taken.

''My government is fully committed to the interests of Assam,'' he added.

''To rid Assam and the country of infiltrators we've always strengthened the voice of people. That is why we did chitmahal agreement and are working towards completely sealing India-Bangladesh border. We implemented NRC under the supervision of the Supreme Court that earlier governments were hesitating to do,'' Modi said.

Assam to become oil and gas hub of the country with projects worth Rs 14,000 crore completed in the last four years, he added.
