Those texts included one that read: "Don't let in any howlers tonight you s******. Up the Arsenal."

While another simply said: "ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL."

Guardiola provides update

Ederson was once again in pristine form during the match as Spurs fired high xG shots his way, despite City having the lion's share of possession.

However, the 2022 Golden Glove winner had to go off the pitch in the 69th minute after his collision with Spurs defender, Romero, while attempting to shield the ball. Ederson did not look happy being replaced by Stefan Ortega and looked animated while sitting on the bench. Later, he could be seen crying for missing out the crucial part of the match.

After the match, Manchester City boss PepGuardiola revealed that Ederson was unable to see properly and that his team took the call, keeping in mind the final league match against West Ham United, over the weekend.

"Ederson did not have concussion, he had a problem with his eye. He could not see properly so the doctor said I should change. He [Stefan Ortega] is a world-class keeper. He's an exceptional, exceptional keeper," said Guardiola.

"Ederson had a kick in the eye and it is swollen. He can't see properly. The doctor told me he needed to be replaced. I didn't have an alternative."

Ortega proved to be more than an adequate backup for Ederson as he saved a potential equaliser from Heung-min Son in the dying seconds of the match. If the goal had got in, the match may have ended in a 1-1 draw, allowing Arsenal to walk into the final match week at the top of the points table.
