Salma Hayek marks Penélope Cruz's 50th birthday with heartfelt note: You are an extraordinary woman

Ever since Penélope Cruz and Salma Hayek shared screen space in the 2006 film Bandidas, the two have been the closest friends in the film industry. Recently, as Penélope turned 50 and celebrated her milestone birthday, Salma took to social media to pen a heartfelt note for the Vicky Cristina Barcelona star.
In her caption, Hayek wrote, "Happy Birthday Penelope. Thank you God for sending to Earth a special number of years ago an angel."
She went on to express her admiration for Cruz, describing how she has impacted the lives of those around her. "All of us whose paths crossed with her know that she’s made our life crazy, exciting, meaningful, inspiring and taught us the meaning of solidarity and loyalty with so much love," Hayek wrote.
Acknowledging Cruz's role as a mother, Hayek thanked her friend for the children she has brought into the world. "Thank you, to you Penelope, for the little angels that you’ve mothered into this world. You are an extraordinary woman, and every year even more. (heart emoji)," Salma wrote.

On The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2022, Penélope revealed how Hayek welcomed her when she first arrived in LA."I was coming here for two months and I didn't know anyone here," she said onEllen DeGeneres's show. "And [Salma] picked me up and said, 'You're not going to the hotel. You're coming to my house because this is hard at the beginning and you're going to feel very lonely.'"
Their bond has only grown stronger over the years, with Hayek even hosting a luncheon in 2023 to honour Penélope for her performance in Ferrari.
