Cozy Cardio: The new fitness trend on social media which aims to improve mind & body

It was one fine summer morning when I landed at this beautiful wellness centre nestled in the heart of a small town called Jhansi in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh with my one-year-old infant. Having joined back work after an extended maternity break, doubled in body weight from my regular size and with severe lack of confidence courtesy having stayed away from professional duties for close to a year, this break came in at just the right time.

With one short train ride from New Delhi to Jhansi and then a subsequent half-hour ride from the train station to the property, Shatam Jeeva welcomes you with smiling faces, courteous staff and a peaceful forest.&nbsp;Spread across acres of man-made forest land that has been preserved and bettered with utmost care to make way for a wholesome wellness retreat centre, Shatam Jeeva is an experience. I reached Shatam Jeeva in peak mango season so you can only imagine that I was surrounded by more than 50 varieties of mango trees, wood apple trees, and numerous herbal plants that you have only read as names of ingredients in ayurvedic products.&nbsp;

Over the course of two days, my one-year-old infant and I experienced nature’s bliss. A premium wellness centre that delivers true to its promise, helped us both disconnect with the city life, soak in nature, and gorge on some homemade-style food that was not only healthy but curated with perfection to enjoy the best of season’s offerings and meditate our day away.&nbsp;

<img alt="Shatam Jeeva" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="6a986ae3-7e7c-429a-91c1-c0df3db56448" src="//cdn.wionews.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/HORIZONS%20-%202023-10-03T154232.458.jpg" />

As soon as we reached the Shatam Jeeva Ayurvedic Wellness Centre, we were welcomed with a detox drink and were guided to our room which was not only put in place tastefully but packed with modern luxury. Using only colours of wood, white and greys of marble, the room offered&nbsp;a sense of what you can expect from your stay: a unique sense of peace of mind.

<img alt="Shatam Jeeva" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="03da62b4-daea-40ac-aada-90fc8c76f5f5" src="//cdn.wionews.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/HORIZONS%20-%202023-10-03T150423.946.jpg" />

There is in-room dining available if you feel the heat and the food comes in steel dabbas in insulated tiffin boxes, one that would remind you of school but as you open those, you’d be visibly surprised with how colourful they pack your lunches and dinners. Salads, millet and ragi-based rotis, at least two&nbsp;sabzi (vegetables prepared with turmeric and Indian spices),&nbsp;kheer (milk-based Indian dessert with rice and coconut), brown rice, dal, chutney with dollops of desi ghee atop most curries are what you can expect. Mind you, their milk and milk-based products come from a dairy they have inside the premises and you can pay the indigenous cows a visit too.

My daughter had the most fun interacting with the cows and she thought they were quite cool. Since it was the first time that my daughter and I were in each other's company alone without any additional family members, I must say, that this wellness centre treated us well. From checking into the centre to our well-planned itineraries, special food menu designed for me as well as for my baby, therapies and activities designed keeping in mind that I was still reeling with postpartum, people at Shatam Jeeva went two steps ahead in making sure that I was relaxed and my baby was entertained while we both soaked in nature, in its most virgin form.&nbsp;

The only drawback I felt in the food department was that they don’t offer you tea or coffee or any additives at any time of the day. (So forget that morning and evening chai time but instead, they can offer you juice or milk or shake (in my case, mango shake).&nbsp;

Moving on from the food at the retreat which is not just healthy but extremely therapeutic, what stood out for me was their focus on health, dedication to a disciplined life and staying true to their aim of reconnecting people with nature. We got up early the following day and indulged in an hour-long yoga and meditation that the practitioners helped us with while correcting our form and guiding us all the way.

<img alt="Shatam Jeeva" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="934fc2f9-5f02-495e-99c5-09611c7a7e02" src="//cdn.wionews.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/HORIZONS%20-%202023-10-03T150617.948.jpg" />

They also treat you to a specially designed wellness package at the start of your trip that includes laying down the activities that you would get to participate in, places or experiences they would like you to make time for and massages and medicines (if any) that they prescribe you after checking your pulse through age-old ways that will help treat you with issues like diabetes, insomnia, acidity and other digestion-related issues, migraines and other types of headache, constipation, stress, anxiety and other mental health-related issues. I checked myself into a deep-tissue full-body massage that lasted an hour with various oils. Meanwhile, one masseuse kept my baby engaged so that I could enjoy my session stress-free.

People at Shatam Jeeva know what they are doing and have the utmost sense of responsibility for running a luxury wellness centre that is big on offering life-enriching experiences.&nbsp;

Other daytime activities you can indulge in are tree-hugging, forest bathing, forest walking, painting, pottery, mantra chanting, and tree plantation among other things. There's a buggy ride available twice daily if you want to take a look at the forest spread and travel the length and breadth of the area but I'd suggest you walk it if you can because the experience will change you in ways I can't put to words.&nbsp;

<img alt="Shatam Jeeva" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="7ee69f4e-3272-49c2-9348-71b9bafae895" src="//cdn.wionews.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/HORIZONS%20-%202023-10-03T150540.790.jpg" />

While mine was a short two-day trip to Shatam Jeeva, I recommend this to all those who are looking to unwind and break from monotony. I enjoyed the summers here, I am sure the retreat centre looks even more beautiful in the months leading to winter. Think bonfire, peacocks (yes, there are hundreds of peacocks at the property you can catch a glimpse of only as you step out of your room), that slightly chilly whiff in the air in October. I wish I could go back!&nbsp;

I healed postpartum with peacocks, yoga and massage at this retreat centre

It was more than just another fashion show in the City of Light. Louis Vuitton’s latest extravaganza on Paris’ most famous avenue, the Champs-Elysées, transformed an iconic 19th-century art nouveau space into an evolving artwork. As guests entered, they encountered an ephemeral installation — a vast, expanding balloon structure that melded with the walls. But as avant-garde as it was, the installation’s plastic, coupled with an autumnal heat wave, had some attendees likening it to a fashionable, yet sweltering, greenhouse.

The designs? A riot of colours, ludic patterns, and subtle riffs on harlequins. A visual feast that kept the eyes and iPhones flitting from one ensemble to the next.

Yet the decor and fashion might have met their match in star power. The luminaries of Hollywood — Zendaya, Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Connelly, Paul Bettany, Jaden Smith, and a host of others — converged, turning the venue into a veritable galaxy of celebrities. The heat outside mirrored the fervour inside, as Vuitton proved, once again, that in the world of fashion, it’s an unstoppable force.

Here are some highlights of Monday’s shows, including an interview with Stella McCartney:

A VUITTON VIGNETTE: WHEN PAST CLASHES WITH FUTURE

In a surreal wash of orange, Louis Vuitton’s showcase, under the deft hand of women’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, was a blend of epochs and emotions.

A burst of colour, channelling the vibrancy of harlequins, took centre stage. The striped high-waisted trousers and billowing yellow silk sleeves paid tribute to days of yore, while modern ski goggles reminded everyone of Ghesquière’s ever-present innovation.

The ’70s too had their moment. Striped shirts with open cuffs, reminiscent of this era, fused the delicate and free-spirited vibe against the hard, resolute feel of a box camera styled as a necklace. This distinct contrast — the soft meets the hard — exemplified Ghesquière’s talent for marrying contrasts.

Subtle nods, perhaps to stalwarts like Armani Privé couture, could be spotted, but the collection was unmistakably Vuitton. The embrace of a glossy black bodice contrasted with the airy freedom of a voluminous white skirt. Similarly, a gleaming miniskirt seemed to mix between rigidity and flow.

Yet, Ghesquière’s vibrancy sometimes edged toward the theatrical, seemingly sacrificing subtlety for statement. While his craftsmanship is undeniable, the balance between drama and understatement remains a tightrope he navigates.

All told Ghesquière’s latest offering is a testament to skill in stitching together the past with the present.

ACTIVISTS TARGET LOUIS VUITTON DURING PARIS FASHION WEEK

Just before Louis Vuitton’s anticipated show, environmental activists from “Dernière Rénovation” sprayed the brand’s Champs-Elysées storefront with orange paint. Their aim? According to social media, to challenge the luxury brands of Paris Fashion Week and the wealthy attending the specific event. The activists’ shirts, bearing the message “their selfishness kills,” spoke to their cause. Amid this disruption, influencer Jeremstar protested for animal rights, only to be restrained by police. Despite these disturbances, the Vuitton event went ahead and the brand has not issued a response.

MARKETPLACE MAGIC: STELLA’S SUSTAINABLE SPRING SPLENDOR

It’s not every Monday that you’d see Robert Downey Jr., Emily in Paris&nbsp;starlet Ashley Park, and spotless fashion mogul Anna Wintour browsing a market. But then again, the Marché Saxe-Breteuil wasn’t just any market this week – it was Stella McCartney’s sustainability showcase, an ingenious stage for her Spring 2024 eco-collection.

The makeshift stalls were far from ordinary. One, a nod to her late mother, famed vegan advocate Linda McCartney, presented vegan marvels. Another proudly showcased the real seaweed – yes, seaweed – that went into crafting a striking 70s macrame dress. Inspired by her parents’ touring days, vintage Wings merch graphics found their way onto organic T-shirts. Guests basked in the October sun, sipping in the atmosphere as much as they did the sights.

This season’s McCartney designs? Think 70s eclectic thrift shop but make it chic. An ageless quality permeated, drawing inspiration not just from Stella’s design vault, but from the idea of borrowing the clothes of her iconic parents as a kid. It made for a sweet and loving fashion ode.

McCartney gave us sheeny shirts with historic white cape sleeves, neatly paired with shimmering crystal hot pants -- lead-free, of course. An oversized floral print on a draped toga dress seemed to capture the Beatles’ psychedelic era, almost transporting wearers to London’s Camden vintage shops.

The nostalgia was evident, but so was the sustainability narrative. Stella’s Sustainable Market showcased her dedication to innovative materials, complemented by English sculptor Andrew Logan’s artistry. McCartney’s show wasn’t just a fashion statement; it was a manifesto of where the future might head.

FROM SEAWEED TO RUNWAY: STELLA MCCARTNEY CHARTS A GREEN COURSE

“This season is 95% sustainable,” McCartney declared proudly by a faux market stand, marking her highest-ever sustainability percentage on the runway.

Drawing inspiration from a personal vault, she said, “A lot of it was, I was looking at my mom and dad’s wardrobe.” This deep dive into her familial past wasn’t just a nostalgia trip. “Now my daughter steals from me,” McCartney noticed, highlighting the cyclical nature of fashion and how traditions ripple through generations.

But the showstopper? Seaweed. A groundbreaking fabric debut, as McCartney explained: “Seaweed ... So it’s insane. It’s the first ever time it’s been on a runway.” This seaweed innovation, crafted from the ocean’s kelp, morphed into a yarn that’s “100% pesticide-free, 100% no land use and 70% more sustainable than any cotton.”

Tongue firmly in cheek, McCartney dubbed the colour of the season as “Green,” quickly clarifying, “There’s no green on a runway but as an eco-green.”

The show was more than garments on display; it was an education. With McCartney’s innovative sustainable market segment, attendees got a closer look at revolutionary materials, from wine waste – courtesy of fellow LVMH brand Veuve Clicquot -- to chic bags and, of course, seaweed making a sartorial splash.

Vuitton transforms Paris with a playful spectacle of colour, stars and history

AI Vincent Van Gogh is patient but unimpressed by yet another question about his chopped-off ear.&nbsp;

"I apologise for any confusion but it seems you are mistaken," says the great painter's avatar, in the sort of testy tone familiar to anyone who has toyed with AI language models.&nbsp;

"I only cut off a small part of my ear lobe," he insists (in fact, there are multiple accounts of how the artist mutilated his ear).&nbsp;

The artificial intelligence Van Gogh appears on a video screen at the end of a blockbuster exhibition at the Musee d'Orsay in Paris. The exhibition, running until February, is dedicated to the final weeks of his life in the village of Auvers-sur-Oise, just north of the French capital.&nbsp;

Van Gogh shot himself with a rusty pistol in 1890 aged 37. It took him two days to die.

But the AI Vincent is surprisingly well-versed in 21st century therapy-speak.&nbsp;

"While I did face mental health struggles, my move to Auvers-sur-Oise was not motivated by a desire to end my life," he says.

As the 40 or so paintings at the Orsay exhibition make clear, his final weeks were extraordinarily prolific, full of masterpieces including "The Church at Auvers", "Wheatfield with Crows" and his very last, "Tree Roots".
All the more surprising is that this period has never been given a dedicated showcase, said Christophe Leribault, Musee d'Orsay president.

- Virtual Vincent -

Among the highlights is a room dedicated to his "double-square" panoramas, a technical revolution in which he used very long and thin canvases, prefiguring the wide-screen landscapes of cinema.&nbsp;

It is perhaps fitting, then, that the show ends with modern technologies, which have become increasingly common as exhibitions try to pull in young audiences.
As well as the Van Gogh chatbot, visitors can also don a virtual reality headset to enter the kitchen of Dr Gachet, where Van Gogh spent time in his final weeks, take a surreal trip around an enormous version of his paint palette and plunge into the tree roots of his final painting.&nbsp;

The state-of-the-art helmet from Taiwanese firm Vive Arts can track the hands of users -- without the need for handheld controllers -- allowing them to pick up items in the virtual world and play with globules of paint.&nbsp;

The AI, by contrast, displays some of the teething problems of the nascent tech.

Asked about his favourite colour, AI Vincent is very certain (yellow).&nbsp;

But he struggles to recognise people in his life, failing to pick up the name of Dr Gachet when asked by a French journalist.&nbsp;

"It recognises words in the French language but we still need to fine-tune the AI so that it understands proper nouns better," said Christophe Renaudineau, head of Jumbo Mana, the Strasbourg start-up which designed the machine.&nbsp;

"This experiment will allow us to improve the model," he added.

AI Vincent Van Gogh is patient but unimpressed by yet another question about his chopped-off ear. "I apologise for any confusion but it seems you are mistaken," says the great painter's avatar, in the sort of testy tone familiar to anyone who has toyed with AI language models. "I only cut off a small part of my ear lobe," he insists (in fact, there are multiple accounts of how the artist mutilated his ear). The artificial intelligence Van Gogh appears on a video screen at the end of a blockbuster exhibition at the Musee d'Orsay in Paris. The exhibition, running until February, is dedicated to the final weeks of his life in the village of Auvers-sur-Oise, just north of the French capital. Van Gogh shot himself with a rusty pistol in 1890 aged 37. It took him two days to die. But the AI Vincent is surprisingly well-versed in 21st century therapy-speak. - Virtual Vincent - Among the highlights is a room dedicated to his "double-square" panoramas, a technical revolution in which he used very long and thin canvases, prefiguring the wide-screen landscapes of cinema. It is perhaps fitting, then, that the show ends with modern technologies, which have become increasingly common as exhibitions try to pull in young audiences. As well as the Van Gogh chatbot, visitors can also don a virtual reality headset to enter the kitchen of Dr Gachet, where Van Gogh spent time in his final weeks, take a surreal trip around an enormous version of his paint palette and plunge into the tree roots of his final painting. The state-of-the-art helmet from Taiwanese firm Vive Arts can track the hands of users -- without the need for handheld controllers -- allowing them to pick up items in the virtual world and play with globules of paint. The AI, by contrast, displays some of the teething problems of the nascent tech. Asked about his favourite colour, AI Vincent is very certain (yellow). But he struggles to recognise people in his life, failing to pick up the name of Dr Gachet when asked by a French journalist. "It recognises words in the French language but we still need to fine-tune the AI so that it understands proper nouns better," said Christophe Renaudineau, head of Jumbo Mana, the Strasbourg start-up which designed the machine. "This experiment will allow us to improve the model," he added. WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. Share your stories and opinions with us here.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Breast cancer is a significant health concern for women in India, and it presents unique challenges, particularly for young women.&nbsp;According to the National Cancer Registry of India, it is estimated that by 2025, there will be 230,000 new cases of breast cancer annually in the country, with a notable increase in young women being diagnosed.

Young women with breast cancer are generally defined as those diagnosed at or below the age of 40, and they make up less than 10 per cent of all new breast cancer cases each year. Several risk factors contribute to breast cancer in young women, including genetic mutations, obesity, and lifestyle factors like late-age childbirth. Unfortunately, young age at diagnosis is often associated with advanced-stage cancer and higher-grade tumours, leading to worse outcomes.

"One significant issue contributing to the advanced stage of breast cancer in young women is the lack of awareness among healthcare providers and patients. It's crucial to educate both groups about the importance of early detection and diagnosis," says&nbsp;Dr Nita S. Nair, Consultant – Breast Surgery, Apollo Cancer Centres.

The medical expert adds, "Young women also face diagnostic challenges due to increased breast density and the limitations of mammograms and ultrasounds, which can sometimes mimic benign lesions. To address these challenges, a comprehensive approach known as the 'triple test' is recommended, involving clinical evaluation, radiology, and pathological confirmation."

In terms of treatment, young women are generally treated similarly to older patients but require special considerations. These include addressing concerns related to body image, quality of life, sexual health, fertility preservation, and premature menopause.

Treatment options may include breast-conserving surgery or mastectomy followed by radiation. Oncoplastic approaches and breast reconstruction following mastectomy can help improve cosmetic outcomes and overall quality of life.

Genetic counselling and testing for hereditary mutations are crucial for young women with breast cancer, as these factors can significantly impact treatment decisions and risk assessment.

Fertility preservation is a significant concern for many young women with breast cancer. Early referral to a fertility specialist is essential before starting systemic therapy. Additionally, young women may experience premature ovarian suppression or systemic menopause due to treatments like chemotherapy or hormone therapy, which can lead to various health issues.

Empowering young women: Navigating breast cancer challenges in India

We all want to look good for ourselves as well as our partners. Well, it turns out that men get more active with their style, skincare and overall appearance when they enter into a relationship and this phenomena is called the 'girlfriend effect'.

The latest dating trend in town: Girlfriend effect, explained | World News | WION

Employees frequently disregard their health in the hectic corporate world of today, when deadlines loom big and meetings seem to go on forever. The most crucial of the various health issues that are routinely disregarded is, without a doubt,&nbsp;cardiovascular health.

Non-communicable diseases caused over 63 per cent of all deaths in India in 2016, of which 27 per cent were attributed to CVDs. With these statistics in hand, companies need to take a proactive role in encouraging heart health among their workers. Here, we look at numerous methods and techniques that businesses can use to encourage heart health among their staff.

Knowledge is Empowerment: Personalised Health Screenings and Education Initiatives

The first step in promoting heart fitness and general health is education. Many workers might not even be aware of the cardiac risk factors they themselves carry. Offering full physicals is a proactive strategy for companies to arm their personnel with important health knowledge. Measurements of blood pressure, heart rate, cholesterol levels, inflammatory markers, and lifestyle factors like food and exercise habits may be included in these assessments. By working together with professional healthcare management firms to deliver these services on-site, employers may promote early identification and intervention.

Additionally, businesses have a crucial role to play in educating staff members about heart health. Regular workshops, webinars, and educational sessions can cover regular exercise, healthy eating, and stress management. Companies may empower their staff to make decisions about their cardiac health by developing a culture of awareness and education.

Dietary Transformation for Employee Wellness

Nutrition plays a significant role in heart health. Corporations can adjust their cafeteria menus to include heart-healthy options, offer nutritional guidance, or even subsidise healthy food choices for their employees. Small dietary adjustments can yield substantial benefits in reducing cardiac risk factors.

Programmes can be applied at work to prevent cardiovascular risk factors and have a favourable influence on intermediate CVD outcomes, according to a study that was published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. The study’s findings reveal that CVD prevention strategy along with health intervention initiatives has been beneficial in bringing down the population-level risk factors of CVD. The results of both intervention surveys and the cohort analysis showed that, compared to the control group, the intervention had a significant effect of reduction in the levels of CVD risk variables, such as the mean body weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, &nbsp;serum cholesterol, and plasma glucose levels. These improvements are a testament that cardiovascular events are preventable.&nbsp;

Fitness Programmes and Stress Alleviation

At the heart of cardiac fitness is physical exercise. The provision of fitness programmes at the workplace by businesses can promote exercise. Yoga classes, group workouts, or an in-house gym can be beneficial for them. Employees' overall productivity and morale are improved by encouraging regular physical activity, which also improves their heart health.

Chronic stress significantly influences heart disease. Companies can introduce stress-reduction programmes like mindfulness and meditation seminars to assist staff in properly managing their stress levels. These activities can considerably lower heart risks associated with stress in addition to fostering a supportive work environment and work-life balance.

Health Empowerment and Comprehensive Coverage

Employee Benefits (EB) programmes play a crucial role in influencing employees' engagement in activities aimed at improving cardiac health. These packages motivate employees to achieve specific health goals, participate in health challenges, and attend wellness webinars or events. By delivering tangible results, these programs drive long-term positive behavioural changes. Moreover, companies can collaborate with insurance or healthcare service providers that offer comprehensive and personalised cardiac health programs as part of their benefits package, enabling employees to prioritise their cardiovascular well-being.

In India, where approximately 47.1 per cent of healthcare expenses are paid out of pocket, increasing coverage for cardiac-related medical expenses through personalised cardiac health initiatives is a crucial step in mitigating the financial burden associated with heart health. According to a recent survey by Policybazaar, there has been a significant movement among corporates, with one in every four boosting the entire medical coverage amounting to Rs 500,000. This transition was long overdue, but we can still do much better in terms of covering expenses connected to cardiac health through personalised cardiac health efforts while reducing the financial burden associated with cardiac-related medical bills. It is critical to provide specific cardiac prevention and care services in addition to financial coverage.

A Supportive Work Culture for Heart Wellness&nbsp;

Creating a workplace culture that prioritises cardiac wellness is essential. It is crucial to motivate staff members to take quick breaks, plan routine check-ups, and communicate freely about any health issues. In addition to removing obstacles to seeking medical care, a friendly workplace encourages a sense of value and care among workers.

A recent study published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine highlights the importance of social support, particularly in the context of work stress. The study also revealed the relationship between social support from colleagues, work stress and sleep quality. Workplace stress and adequate sleep are correlated, although the relationship between the two is moderated by perceived social support characteristics. Particularly, when work stress was low or moderate, people who reported higher levels of social support reported better sleep quality, but not when it was severe.

The study also noted that while lowering workplace stress should remain a top priority for businesses, there are times when basic solutions like removing or reducing night shifts might not be feasible. In these circumstances, employers should prioritise social support improvement activities and other related resources. Increasing social support at work can significantly improve sleep quality and general wellness, even in the middle of work-related pressures.&nbsp;

Corporate Responsibility in a Holistic Approach to Heart Health

The role of corporations in supporting employee heart health extends beyond individual well-being and financial coverage. Through a holistic and comprehensive approach encompassing health screenings, education, fitness initiatives, healthy dietary options, stress reduction programs, incentives, comprehensive insurance benefits, and a nurturing work environment, companies can substantially reduce the risk of heart disease within their workforce.

Corporate commitment to promoting heart wellness is not just a passing trend but a necessity that benefits individuals and the organisations they serve. Regular health check-ups empower employees with crucial information about their cardiovascular health, enabling them to make informed decisions. Educational initiatives equip individuals with the knowledge needed to prioritise their heart health. The availability of fitness programs, wholesome food choices, and stress reduction initiatives makes it easier for employees to adopt heart-healthy habits. Corporations should continue to motivate proactive participation in wellness programs, ultimately leading to more effective and successful teams.

Heart health for employee wellness! Here's how employers can contribute | World Heart Day 2023

Heart health is a topic of paramount importance, as it affects our overall well-being and quality of life. Yet, amidst the wealth of information available, several myths persist, clouding our understanding of heart health. Let's debunk these myths and shed light on some facts to help you prioritise your heart health.

Myth: Cardiac arrest and heart attack mean the same thing

Fact: A heart attack is not the same as a cardiac arrest. A heart attack occurs when a coronary artery becomes blocked, hindering blood supply to the heart muscle. On the other hand, cardiac arrest is when the heart stops pumping blood, causing the person to lose consciousness and stop breathing. While many cardiac arrests result from heart attacks, they are distinct emergencies. In either case, immediate action is crucial. "Administer CPR for cardiac arrest&nbsp;and seek prompt medical help for a heart attack," says&nbsp;Dr&nbsp;Rajesh Thachathodiyl, Senior Interventional Cardiologist and Professor &amp; Head of Adult Cardiology at Amrita Hospital, Kochi.

Myth: Higher blood pressure is normal with age

Fact: While blood pressure can rise with age due to stiffening arteries, it is not a natural or healthy process. Elevated blood pressure strains the heart and damages arteries, increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. "Regular monitoring and consultation with your healthcare provider are essential to addressing high blood pressure, which should ideally be below 140/90 mm Hg," says the medical expert.

Myth: Quitting smoking offers no heart health benefits

Fact: Quitting smoking at any age yields immediate benefits for heart health. "Within a year of quitting, your heart attack risk decreases by 50 per cent, and after a decade, it approaches that of a non-smoker. Seek support and use stop-smoking aids if needed to kick the habit," says Dr&nbsp;Rajesh.&nbsp;

Myth: Heart disease primarily affects men

Fact: Contrary to popular belief, heart disease is a significant threat to women, claiming more lives than all forms of cancer combined. Women of all ages should prioritise heart health, as factors like birth control, smoking, and genetic predisposition can contribute to the risk.

Myth: Heart disease only affects older adults

Fact: Heart disease doesn't discriminate by age. Younger individuals can also develop heart issues, especially if they have risk factors like smoking, high cholesterol, or a sedentary lifestyle. Several experts suggest that regular health check-ups and early prevention are vital to dodging deadly heart diseases.

Myth: A small heart attack is insignificant

Fact: Even a minor heart attack is a red flag. Take it as a warning sign to address risk factors like weight, cholesterol, blood pressure, and lifestyle choices to reduce the chances of a more severe event.

Myth: Angioplasty or bypass surgery completely fixes your heart

Fact: While these procedures alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life, they do not cure the underlying atherosclerosis. Long-term success depends on addressing the root causes, such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, a poor diet, smoking, and physical inactivity.

Myth: Asymptomatic means no heart issues

Fact: Many heart disease cases, especially in women, are asymptomatic or present atypical symptoms. Shortness of breath, nausea, back or jaw pain, dizziness, and extreme fatigue can be subtle warning signs. Regular check-ups are crucial for timely detection.

Myth: Vitamins and supplements prevent heart disease

Fact: While vitamins like E, C, and beta-carotene have antioxidant properties, their benefits in reducing heart disease risk remain inconclusive. The body absorbs these nutrients more effectively through a diverse, nutritious diet rather than supplements. Focus on a colourful, balanced diet for the best results.

"By embracing a heart-healthy diet and an active lifestyle, we take control of our cardiovascular destiny, reducing the risk of heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes. Remember, small changes can bring big benefits later in life. So, let's prioritise our heart health, making each meal and every workout a step towards a longer, healthier, and happier life. Your heart will thank you for it," concludes Dr Rajesh.

World Heart Day 2023: Common myths and facts about heart health

Pregnancy is a transformative journey that brings joy and anticipation to expectant mothers and their families. However, it also places significant demands on a woman's body, including the cardiovascular system. Maternal heart health is a crucial aspect of a safe and successful pregnancy. Understanding and managing cardiovascular issues during pregnancy is essential to ensure the well-being of both the mother and the baby.

<h2>The Changing Cardiovascular Landscape During Pregnancy</h2>

Pregnancy triggers a series of physiological changes in a woman's body, including alterations in the cardiovascular system. These changes are necessary to support the fetus in the womb and prepare the body for childbirth. Some of the key cardiovascular adaptations include:

●&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Increased Blood Volume: During pregnancy, a woman's blood volume increases by up to 50 per cent. This helps supply oxygen and nutrients to the developing fetus and supports the body's overall needs.

●&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Cardiac Output: The heart pumps more blood every minute to meet the increased demand. Cardiac output may increase by as much as 30-50 per cent&nbsp;during pregnancy.

●&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Blood Pressure: Blood pressure tends to decrease in the first half of pregnancy and gradually return to normal levels by the third trimester.

<h2>Understanding Cardiovascular Issues in Pregnancy</h2>

While these cardiovascular changes are typically well-tolerated by most women, certain pre-existing conditions or risk factors can lead to complications. Common cardiovascular issues during pregnancy include:

●&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Gestational Hypertension: Some women develop high blood pressure during pregnancy, which is known as gestational hypertension. If left unmanaged, it can progress to preeclampsia, a severe condition that can affect both maternal and fetal health.

●&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Pre-existing Heart Conditions: Women with pre-existing heart conditions, such as congenital heart defects or valvular diseases, require specialised care during pregnancy. Proper monitoring and management are essential to ensure a healthy pregnancy.

●&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Gestational Diabetes: Diabetes that develops during pregnancy, known as gestational diabetes, can increase the risk of cardiovascular issues. Proper blood sugar control is crucial to mitigate these risks.

●&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Blood Clotting Disorders: Some women may have a predisposition to blood clotting disorders. Pregnancy itself can increase the risk of clot formation, so careful monitoring and, in some cases, blood-thinning medications may be necessary.

<h2>Managing Cardiovascular Issues during Pregnancy</h2>

●&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Prenatal Care: Regular prenatal check-ups are vital for monitoring maternal heart health during pregnancy. These appointments allow healthcare providers to track blood pressure, heart rate, and other vital signs to identify and address any issues promptly.

●&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Lifestyle Modifications: Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is crucial for maternal heart health. This includes a balanced diet, regular exercise (as recommended by a healthcare provider), and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.

●&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Blood Pressure Management: For women with gestational hypertension or preeclampsia, blood pressure management is crucial. This may involve lifestyle changes, medication, or, in severe cases, hospitalisation for close monitoring.

Maternal heart health is a critical aspect of a healthy pregnancy. While pregnancy brings about natural changes in the cardiovascular system, women with pre-existing heart conditions or risk factors must receive specialised care and monitoring to ensure a safe and successful pregnancy. Regular prenatal check-ups, lifestyle modifications, and proper management of cardiovascular issues are essential components of a comprehensive approach to maternal heart health during pregnancy. By understanding and managing these issues, expectant mothers can increase the likelihood of a healthy pregnancy and the birth of a healthy baby.

Maternal heart health: Understanding and managing cardiovascular issues in pregnancy

Milan Fashion Week was not even over and the fashionistas were already back in Paris on Monday for another 100-plus shows in the hectic womenswear season.&nbsp;

The spring-summer 2024 collections in the French capital run until October 3, with 107 brands presenting, of which 67 are giving runway shows.&nbsp;

All eyes are on Balmain's show on Wednesday night after the dramatic theft of 50 of its outfits.&nbsp;

Armed robbers seized the clothes on their way from Charles de Gaulle Airport to Balmain's Paris headquarters, leaving creative director Olivier Rousteing racing to pull together a replacement collection.

This week also sees final shows for two big name designers.&nbsp;

Gabriela Hearst is leaving Chloe after fewer than three years. Her sustainable focus was critically acclaimed but did not bring a major boost to sales.&nbsp;

It will also be the last show for Sarah Burton, who took over at Alexander McQueen following the founder's suicide in 2010. &nbsp;

Paris is the last of the big four fashion weeks in the busy September calendar that sees back-to-back events in London, New York and Milan.&nbsp;

The biggest story this season has been a new creative director at Gucci.&nbsp;

The debut by Sabato de Sarno in Milan on Friday was a relatively low-key affair but gave a boost to the share price of French parent company Kering, which has been struggling lately to keep up with its major rival, LVMH.
The first day of Paris Fashion Week always focuses on emerging designers and there was excitement this year about avant-garde newcomer Marie Adam-Leenaerdt from Belgium, who brought a dash of much-needed humour to the opening show.&nbsp;

It opened with a chorus singing "Let's go to the beach!" only to follow it with a series of decidedly un-beachy grey, formal and structured outfits before introducing some more summery Barbie pink and sky-blue dresses.

"There's something very Belgian about it," the 27-year-old designer told AFP backstage. "It's important for me to play with the codes and have some paradoxes."

Also showing on Monday was Victor Weinsanto, a former classical dancer who trained in fashion with Jean Paul Gaultier and loves to bring cabaret to the catwalk.

There were doses of humour -- opening with an extravagant wedding gown that he said was designed for "a woman who gets married entirely in Swarovski".&nbsp;
But he also showed a more serious side, with structured and chic pieces alongside more offbeat items like hooded suit jackets.&nbsp;

Far from a newcomer, but long absent from the official line-up in Paris, is Pierre Cardin, which returned to the catwalk for the first time in 25 years last season and was back with a glamorous show on Monday night.&nbsp;

The label's founder died in 2020 and his nephew Rodrigo Basilicati-Cardin is currently in charge but is embroiled in a bitter succession dispute with family members who have accused each other of fraud and other crimes.&nbsp;

World Lung Day 2023: Lungs are very important for our overall well-being and it is essential to take care of them. Lungs not only perform the crucial function of supplying oxygen to our bodies but also remove waste gases. Adopting certain daily habits can help to keep our lungs in optimal condition, improve respiratory health, and reduce the risk of lung-related diseases.

In this article, we will discuss seven habits that can contribute to maintaining healthy lungs. Read on!

1. Avoid Tobacco and Second-hand Smoke:

One of the most important habits for lung health is to steer clear of tobacco smoke. Smoking damages the lungs and increases the risk of chronic lung conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer. Similarly, exposure to second-hand smoke can be equally harmful. Quitting smoking and avoiding places where smoking is allowed are crucial steps towards a healthier respiratory system.

2. Regular Physical Exercise:

Engaging in regular physical exercise makes our body fit along with improving lung function. Activities like brisk walking, swimming, and cycling enhance the capacity and efficiency of the lungs.&nbsp;

3. Maintain Good Indoor Air Quality:

Air pollutants can significantly impact lung health. Ensure good indoor air quality by keeping your living and working spaces clean and well-ventilated.&nbsp;

4. Practice Deep Breathing Exercises:

Deep breathing exercises are an effective way to promote lung health. Activities such as yoga, meditation, and deep diaphragmatic breathing techniques help expand lung capacity, improve respiratory muscle strength, and enhance oxygen uptake. These exercises are easy to perform at any time and help people with respiratory conditions.

Experts talk about the connection between Alzheimer's and Cardiovascular Health</a>

5. Stay Hydrated:

Drinking an adequate amount of water is essential for maintaining optimal lung function. Keeping your body hydrated helps ensure that your airways stay moist, which facilitates easy passage of air through the respiratory system. Dry airways can lead to irritation and constriction, making breathing more difficult.

6. Protect Against Environmental Hazards:

Exposure to environmental hazards like air pollution, dust, and chemical fumes can harm your lungs. When venturing outdoors, avoid heavily polluted areas and wear a mask in situations where air quality is compromised. Additionally, wear protective equipment like masks if you work in industries that expose you to harmful substances.

7. Regular Respiratory Check-ups:

Regular check-ups with your healthcare provider for early detection and management of lung conditions, ensuring timely intervention if any respiratory issues arise. A Pulmonologist may guide you about your specific needs, such as recommending appropriate vaccines, such as flu or pneumonia vaccine, to protect your lungs.

By adopting these habits, you can significantly contribute to the health and well-being of your lungs. Avoiding smoking and second-hand smoke, engaging in regular exercise, maintaining good indoor air quality, practising deep breathing exercises, staying hydrated, protecting against environmental hazards, and regular check-ups with healthcare professionals are all steps towards ensuring healthy lungs. Remember, small changes in daily habits can make a big difference in preventing lung-related ailments and ensuring a better quality of life.

So, prioritise your lung health and breathe easily!

The Nipah virus, a zoonotic pathogen transmitted by bats, is both highly infectious and potentially fatal when contracted by humans. This virus poses a significant threat, particularly to children, given their developing immune systems and frequent close interactions with family members and caregivers.

Recognising the early symptoms of Nipah virus infection in children is of paramount importance. Timely identification, coupled with appropriate treatment and preventive measures, can effectively halt its transmission and save numerous lives.

<h2>Early symptoms of Nipah virus in children</h2>

The initial symptoms of the Nipah virus in children can be similar to other common diseases, making early detection challenging. However, parents and caregivers should be alert if a child exhibits the following symptoms:

●&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Fever and Headache: Fever and headache are some of the initial symptoms of Nipah virus. This fever can be persistent and the medicines given for common fevers have no effect on this fever.

●&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Cough and breathing difficulties: After transmission of the virus, the child may develop a persistent cough and face difficulties in breathing. This can sometimes be confused with a lung infection.

●&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Vomiting and seizures: Nausea and vomiting may occur as the infection progresses, and in severe cases, children may experience seizures, which can be especially worrisome.

●&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Muscle pain and weakness: Due to the spread of the virus, children may have muscle pain and weakness, which can make it difficult for them to move.

●&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Respiratory support: Children with breathing difficulties may require mechanical ventilation, which is meant to assist breathing.

●&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Isolation: Infected children should be kept in isolation so that the virus is not transmitted to others.

Meanwhile, there are ongoing efforts to develop and assess immunotherapeutic treatments, specifically monoclonal antibody therapies, for combating NiV infections. Notably, one such monoclonal antibody, m102.4, has successfully completed phase 1 clinical trials and has been administered on a compassionate use basis.

Furthermore, the antiviral drug remdesivir has demonstrated efficacy in nonhuman primates as a post-exposure prophylaxis, potentially complementing immunotherapeutic approaches. It's worth mentioning that the drug ribavirin was utilised in treating a limited number of patients during the initial Malaysian NiV outbreak, although its effectiveness in humans remains uncertain.

Early signs of Nipah virus in children: Symptoms, treatment and prevention

It shouldn't come as a surprise to you that your friend, sister or work colleague has been diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary&nbsp;Syndrome). About 6 per cent to 10 per cent of women worldwide are affected by this condition.

PCOS causes hormonal imbalance in a woman's body which often results in delayed menstrual periods. Women suffering from this condition go through many struggles that not only undermine their health but also call into question social ideals of the ideal body image.&nbsp;

Also, the increased prevalence of PCOS among millennial women is particularly concerning due to its potential implications on fertility. According to data from the National Institute of Health (Government of India), infertility affects a substantial 70 to 80 per cent of women diagnosed with PCOS. This underscores the need for increased awareness, early diagnosis, and effective management of PCOS, especially among younger women.

Since September is observed as World PCOS Awareness Month, it’s important to talk about the condition and spread more awareness about it. WION spoke to a medical expert to understand how one can treat PCOS-induced acne and hair loss. Here's what&nbsp;Ashwini Balerao Gandhi, a gynaecologist who has a community called Wonder Women on coto, shared!

<h2>Understanding PCOS and the ways it impacts hair and skin</h2>

Polycystic Ovary&nbsp;Syndrome is a condition where women produce higher-than-normal amounts of male or androgen hormones. Insulin resistance leads to anovulation and hormonal imbalance. Some of the most common symptoms of PCOS are hair growth on your face and chest, weight gain or difficulty losing weight, patches of dark skin on the back of your neck or other areas(acanthosis). One of the key features of PCOS is high levels of hormones called androgens. Androgens, which are male hormones, are present in all women, albeit in smaller amounts.

Acne and hair loss are just two of the problems that can result from high androgen levels. PCOS has a significant impact on the conditions of both the skin and hair. Excessive levels of testosterone in the body stimulate increased production of sebum leading to the development of acne, primarily occurring on the jawline, cheeks, chin, and upper neck.

Hormonal acne associated with PCOS is not&nbsp;only uncomfortable but also painful, often taking the form of persistent cysts. Androgens can lead to excess hair growth on areas such as the face, chest or back, known as hirsutism. Some individuals also experience thinning or hair loss around the frontal hairline. This is often attributed to an excess of testosterone or androgen, which can make hair thinner, more brittle, and prone to fall.

Managing acne and hair fall in women with PCOS involves a multifaceted approach. Here are some steps you can consider:

Consult a Healthcare Professional: Start by consulting a healthcare provider, preferably a dermatologist and an endocrinologist who specialises in PCOS. They can provide personalised advice and treatment options based on your specific situation.

Balanced Diet: Focus on a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Limit the intake of processed foods, sugary snacks, and excessive dairy, as these can exacerbate hormonal imbalances.

Regular Exercise: Engage in regular physical activity. This can help improve insulin sensitivity, which is often a concern for individuals with PCOS. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week.

Stress Management: Practice stress-reducing techniques such as yoga, meditation, deep breathing exercises, or any activity that helps you relax. High-stress levels can contribute to hormonal imbalances.

Medication: Depending on your specific symptoms, your healthcare provider may prescribe medications like hormonal contraceptives, anti-androgens, or insulin-sensitising agents. These can help regulate hormones and manage symptoms like acne and hair fall.

Topical Treatments for Acne: Your dermatologist may recommend topical treatments containing ingredients like benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, or retinoids to help manage acne.

Proper Skincare: Establish a gentle skincare routine that includes cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturising. Avoid harsh products that can irritate the skin.

Hair Care: Use mild shampoos and conditioners. Avoid excessive heat styling and tight hairstyles that can put stress on the hair shaft. Consider consulting a dermatologist for specific hair care recommendations.

Supplements: Some women with PCOS may benefit from supplements like omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, and inositol. However, consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new supplements.

Regular Follow-up: Keep regular appointments with your healthcare providers to monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.

Remember, it's important to be patient&nbsp;as results may take time to show. Also, what works for one person may not work for another, so it's crucial to work closely with your healthcare team to find the most effective approach for you.

Dealing with acne and hair loss caused by PCOS can be emotionally draining, but there are effective treatments available. Seeking advice from healthcare specialists such as dermatologists and endocrinologists is critical for building individualised treatment plans that address your specific needs. Adopting a healthy lifestyle and following appropriate skincare and haircare regimens, in addition to expert support, can play an important role in increasing your overall well-being and reducing the effects of PCOS on your skin and hair. It is critical to be patient because obvious improvements may take some time to develop, but with dedication and professional assistance, you can recover confidence in your appearance.

It shouldn't come as a surprise to you that your friend, sister or work colleague has been diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). About 6 per cent to 10 per cent of women worldwide are affected by this condition.

It shouldn't come as a surprise to you that your friend, sister or work colleague has been diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). About 6 per cent to 10 per cent of women worldwide are affected by this condition. PCOS causes hormonal imbalance in a woman's body which often results in delayed menstrual periods. Women suffering from this condition go through many struggles that not only undermine their health but also call into question social ideals of the ideal body image. Here's what Ashwini Balerao Gandhi, a gynaecologist who has a community called Wonder Women on coto, shared! In the intricate web of human health, a compelling relationship between Alzheimer's disease and cardiovascular health is coming to light, offering new insights into prevention and treatment.

Emerging scientific evidence and studies are strengthening the link between cardiovascular disease and cognitive impairment, particularly Alzheimer's disease. Subclinical cardiovascular disease, even before symptoms become evident, has been found to pose a higher risk for dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

The common risk factors for both cardiovascular and Alzheimer's diseases include essential hypertension, high LDL cholesterol, low HDL cholesterol, and diabetes. Lifestyle risk factors like obesity, lack of exercise, smoking, and psychological factors also contribute to an increased risk for both diseases.

While some overlap exists in major risk factors, it's essential to note that inflammatory markers predict cardiovascular risk but not dementia. Nonetheless, evidence suggests that effectively managing these shared risk factors may prevent cognitive decline and dementia.

For instance, randomised trials of anti-hypertensive drugs have shown promise in reducing the risk of cognitive decline and providing limited benefits in Alzheimer's disease. Similarly, small trials on statins have demonstrated positive effects on cognitive decline, with larger trials underway for Alzheimer's disease. Ongoing research continues to shed light on the intricate relationship between cardiovascular risk factors and cognitive decline, as well as Alzheimer's disease.

Dr Manoj Khanal (Associate Director, Neurology, Max Hospital, Shalimar Bagh) says, "Currently available data in the public domain provides the rationale for doctors to provide effective management of cardiovascular risk factors and ask the patients to comply with management of three prominent risk factors like diabetes; hypertension and dyslipidemia for effective prevention of cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease. Since prevention&nbsp;is better than cure, we must focus on some lifestyle changes. A diet rich in fruits; vegetables and fish like continental and Mediterranean foods has a good impact on mental health and cardiovascular health. Aerobic exercise daily for at least 30 minutes also helps to improve mental health and cardiovascular health."

Meanwhile, Dr Harnish Singh Bhatia (Consultant, Cardiology, Max Hospital, Shalimar Bagh) says, "As a cardiologist, my journey through the intricate pathways of the human body has led me to a profound realisation: the heart and the brain, though anatomically distinct, are intimately connected in health and disease. One of the most striking intersections of these vital organs is the emerging link between Alzheimer's disease and cardiovascular health – a connection that holds the promise of new insights and potential avenues for prevention and treatment."

"Alzheimer's disease, a debilitating neurodegenerative condition, has long been associated with cognitive decline and memory loss. However, recent research has illuminated a compelling relationship between Alzheimer's and cardiovascular risk factors. It turns out that what's good for the heart may also be good for the brain," Dr Harnish adds.

According to the medical professional, one of the key players in this connection is the vascular system, which supplies blood and oxygen to both the heart and the brain. Conditions like hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetes, which are known risk factors for heart disease, also seem to increase the risk of Alzheimer's. He asserts that the accumulation of fatty deposits in blood vessels, a hallmark of atherosclerosis, can restrict blood flow to the brain, depriving it of essential nutrients and oxygen.

Furthermore, inflammation, another common feature of cardiovascular disease, may play a role in Alzheimer's pathogenesis, says the expert. Chronic inflammation, driven by factors like obesity and smoking, can trigger harmful processes within the brain that contribute to cognitive decline.

These findings underscore the importance of maintaining good cardiovascular health throughout life. Regular exercise, a heart-healthy diet, and effective management of conditions like hypertension are not only beneficial for the heart but may also protect the brain from Alzheimer 's-related changes.

Dr. Harnish concludes, "As a cardiologist, I believe that our work extends beyond the heart. It's a holistic approach to health that recognises the profound connection between the brain and the heart. By prioritising cardiovascular wellness, we may not only prevent heart disease but also contribute to the fight against Alzheimer's, offering hope for a future where both heart and mind can thrive."

The Brain-Heart Connection! Experts talk about the connection between Alzheimer's and Cardiovascular Health

Gucci's new designer Sabato De Sarno sent out a glamorous, skin-baring lineup of minimalist designs for his first fashion show on Friday, drawing praise for a highly anticipated debut which owner Kering hopes will help revive sales at its flagship brand.

Models filed down a darkened, concrete runway at the label's Milan headquarters, a former aircraft factory, parading short shorts paired with suit jackets, strapless mini-dresses, trim sweatshirts and tank tops with plunging necklines.

De Sarno "knows what we need at the moment, clean luxe sportswear that isn't cheeky sexy," said fashion critic Kenneth Richard, editor in chief of industry publication The Impression.

Federico Giglio, chief executive and business manager of Italy-based high-end fashion retailer Giglio.com, said the collection was "a new way to see luxury - wearable without the need for excess, that keeps with the times."

Friday's catwalk presentation serves as the aesthetic foundation of a broad reset of the French group's prized label -- key to creating buzz and reigniting sales, even if the new designs won't hit stores until early next year.

Thomas Chauvet, analyst with Citi, said the first glimpse of De Sarno's vision for the brand showed "a clear evolution from prior brand aesthetics, likely to attract slightly older demographics and command higher price points."

"Gucci is the opportunity to fall in love with fashion, ancora," De Sarno said in a post on Instagram in the run-up to the show, using the Italian word for "again."

The brand plastered the word "ancora" on huge advertisements that marked the date of the show, alongside the Gucci logo -- in white lettering, on a burgundy backdrop -- covering buildings around the world, including in New York, Chengdu, Bangkok and London.

A forecast of rain prompted a last-minute venue shift to the Milan headquarters rather than outdoors in the swanky Brera district.

Debut collections can generate mixed reactions, and even positive press reviews are not always a proxy for future commercial success. However, the fashion show will "definitely impact investors' perception of De Sarno's capacity to trigger an inflexion in Gucci's aesthetics," said Antoine Belge, analyst with Exane BNP Paribas, before the show.

"The climax is not for right away -- it's sometimes the second or third shows that are the most important," Kering CEO and Chairman Francois-Henri Pinault told reporters ahead of the show, before greeting front-row guests Julia Roberts and Ryan Gosling.

Federico Giglio, chief executive and business manager of Italy-based high-end fashion retailer Giglio.com, said the collection was "a new way to see luxury - wearable without the need for excess, that keeps with the times." Friday's catwalk presentation serves as the aesthetic foundation of a broad reset of the French group's prized label -- key to creating buzz and reigniting sales, even if the new designs won't hit stores until early next year. Thomas Chauvet, analyst with Citi, said the first glimpse of De Sarno's vision for the brand showed "a clear evolution from prior brand aesthetics, likely to attract slightly older demographics and command higher price points." "Gucci is the opportunity to fall in love with fashion, ancora," De Sarno said in a post on Instagram in the run-up to the show, using the Italian word for "again." The brand plastered the word "ancora" on huge advertisements that marked the date of the show, alongside the Gucci logo -- in white lettering, on a burgundy backdrop -- covering buildings around the world, including in New York, Chengdu, Bangkok and London. Self-improvement strategies: 8 steps to mental well-being

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is primarily driven by hormonal imbalances, giving rise to distinctive clinical features such as weight gain, obesity, irregular menstrual cycles, and infertility. It significantly affects a substantial portion of the global female population and ranks as a leading cause of female infertility.&nbsp;

Among women of reproductive age, PCOS stands out as the most prevalent endocrine disorder, impacting approximately 8 per cent&nbsp;to 13 per cent of this demographic. Its pathophysiology is intricate, involving multiple genetic factors. Consequently, a single genetic diagnostic test falls short in identifying its precise cause.

PCOS is better characterised as a polygenic disorder since it involves several genes, and its genetic susceptibility varies even among members of the same family. Genetics indeed contribute significantly, accounting for around 72 per cent&nbsp;of PCOS cases.&nbsp;

However, the revelation of intrauterine programming, marked by an overwhelming surge of androgen exposure to the foetus during pregnancy and an inadequate supply of foetal nutrition, which in turn diminishes foetal insulin secretion and triggers the methylation of specific genes, all have surfaced as pivotal genetic factors amplifying the prevalence of PCOS in women. &nbsp;

Genetic factors, thus, undeniably play a pivotal role in the occurrence of PCOS. In these circumstances, it is imperative to bring about modifications in lifestyle in order to effectively manage the condition. &nbsp;

<h2>Managing PCOS through Lifestyle Changes&nbsp;</h2>

To effectively manage PCOS, transitioning to lifestyle modifications is fundamental.

Making Dietary Adjustments: Managing PCOS can be difficult. However, to deal with the hormone imbalance in one's body, it is recommended to increase the daily fibre intake to about 21-25 grams. This is because foods rich in fibre help the body slow down digestion and reduce the effect of sugar on the blood to combat insulin resistance. Therefore, incorporating fibre-rich foods in your&nbsp;diet like beans, lentils, vegetables, and chia seeds is a good choice.&nbsp;

Incorporating Anti-Inflammatory Foods: PCOS is an endocrine disorder that is closely associated with inflammation. The inclusion of tomatoes, green vegetables, fatty fish, and fruits like oranges, cherries, blueberries, and strawberries in the diet can help reduce insulin levels and maintain them. &nbsp;

Moderating Dairy Intake: Excess consumption of dairy products often leads to an increased risk of ovarian infertility and acne, both of which are by-products of PCOS. Hence, moderating their consumption is recommended. &nbsp;

Exercising Regularly: Those suffering from or at high risk&nbsp;of&nbsp;PCOS are more susceptible to depression, due to hormone imbalance issues. Hence, it is recommended to engage in at least 60 minutes of exercise five days a week. These exercises can include gym workouts and/or yoga sessions. They&nbsp;help in the release of endorphins, which help in reducing stress and improving one's mood.&nbsp;

The Mind-Heart Connection! How mental wellness benefits your heart

The Nipah virus is a zoonotic virus with high contagion potential, capable of spreading from bats to humans and other animals. Infections caused by the Nipah virus are associated with a notable fatality rate. It can spread through contaminated food and directly between humans, making it an infectious disease that causes&nbsp;serious illness and death.

<h2>Symptoms of Nipah virus</h2>

The initial symptoms of Nipah virus infection in children can be very similar to those of common diseases, making early detection a challenge. However, parents and caregivers should be alert if a child shows any of the following symptoms:

Fever and headache: One of the early indicators of Nipah virus infection is persistent fever accompanied by headache. It is important to note that normal fever-reducing medicines cannot reduce this fever.

Cough and respiratory problems: After viral transmission, children may have a persistent cough and experience difficulty breathing. These respiratory symptoms can sometimes be confused with a lung infection.

Vomiting and seizures: As the infection progresses, children may develop nausea and vomiting. In severe cases, seizures may occur, which is particularly worrying.

Muscle pain and weakness: Nipah virus infection can cause muscle pain and weakness in children, making it challenging for them to walk or move comfortably.

Difficulty in breathing: In the most severe cases, children may have difficulty in breathing due to the infection. Children displaying these symptoms need immediate medical care.

<h2>How to Protect the Children</h2>

Educate your children: Explain to children what the Nipah virus is and how it spreads. Teach them the importance of hand hygiene, avoid contact with sick animals and do not consume fruits that have come in contact with bats.

Practice good hygiene: Encourage children to regularly wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before meals and after being in public. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitiser with at least 60 per cent alcohol.

Avoid close contact with sick persons: Teach your children to maintain physical distance from anyone who is sick or has a Nipah virus infection.

Stay informed: Be aware of every piece of information related to the Nipah virus. This will help you make informed decisions about your child's activities and interactions.

Use masks when appropriate: Depending on local conditions and guidelines, encourage children to wear masks in crowded or indoor settings where social distancing may be challenging.

Vaccinations: At present, there is no specific vaccine available for the Nipah virus. Keep informed about the latest developments regarding Nipah virus vaccines.

Seek medical help immediately: If a child shows symptoms like fever, headache, vomiting or trouble breathing, seek medical help immediately. If recently you have come in contact with sick animals or people, inform healthcare providers about it.

It is important for parents to be aware of the risks and take appropriate precautions to protect their children against the Nipah virus outbreak. &nbsp;Education, good hygiene practices and staying informed are the keys to stopping the spread of the virus and ensuring your family's safety.

Nipah virus outbreak: What safeguards parents need to know for protecting kids

In a world where we're shedding outdated taboos about menstruation and adopting more progressive attitudes, we're also welcoming innovative solutions that make that time of the month a bit easier. One such game-changer is period underwear. However, like many pioneering ideas, it has fallen victim to persistent myths that just won't disappear. But don't worry, it's time to separate fact from fiction and unveil the real story behind period underwear.

<h2>Myth #1 - They are not reusable</h2>

Traditional menstrual products like tampons or pads require frequent changes, which can be inconvenient and disruptive to daily activities. In today's world, we have access to some truly innovative period products that are crafted entirely from 100 per cent cloth. One of the standout features of period underwear is its long-lasting protection. These specially designed undergarments can be worn for up to 8 hours, giving you the freedom to go about your day without constant trips to the bathroom. No more worrying about changing tampons or pads every few hours!

With period underwear, you can enjoy the convenience of extended wear, knowing it provides reliable protection for an entire workday or night's sleep.

<h2>Myth #2 - They Leak and Create Stains</h2>

Can period underwear handle heavy flows without leaks or stains? This is one of the biggest concerns people have about trying these revolutionary products. The truth is that period underwear is designed to provide exceptional leak protection. It features multiple absorbent layers that trap moisture and prevent it from seeping through. This ensures that you stay dry and comfortable throughout the day.

The advanced technology behind period underwear ensures that even on your heaviest flow days, you won't have to worry about embarrassing leaks or unsightly stains on your clothing. This level of protection allows you to feel confident and secure during your period.

<h2>Myth #3: They need a pad to stick with it</h2>

One common misconception is the belief that period underwear requires a pad for added protection. This is a huge misunderstanding. Period underwear is specifically designed to be a standalone solution for managing menstrual flow. They feature multiple layers of absorbent fabric that wicks moisture away from the body, preventing leaks and providing a secure and comfortable experience. The need for an additional pad is entirely unnecessary when using high-quality period underwear.&nbsp;

<h2>Myth #4: They are Unhygienic</h2>

Contrary to the belief, reputable brands treat period underwear with antibacterial properties which makes them more hygienic than the disposable plastic alternatives. These properties help to prevent the growth of bacteria and odours while ensuring that you can wear period underwear with confidence and comfort throughout your period.

<h2>Myth #5: They are not Designed for Comfort</h2>

Are period underwear just about functionality? Of course, they are! But add comfort and up goes your peace of mind. The high-waist design offers full coverage, so you can say goodbye to uncomfortable bunching or shifting during the day. You'll hardly even notice you're wearing them! The absence of uncomfortable materials or adhesive strips means you can move freely and comfortably, even during your period.

<h2>Myth #6: They are inconvenient to wash</h2>

Unlike disposable products that contribute to waste, period underwear is easy to care for. They are as simple to reuse as they can be rinsed with cold water to remove any excess blood and then tossed in the washing machine with your regular laundry. No need to worry about disposal or special cleaning routines. This is how straightforward the cleaning process is; something that doesn't require any special handling. This convenience adds to the overall appeal of period underwear as a practical and sustainable choice for managing your period.

Dispelling the myths: Facts about period underwear

Heart failure is a global endemic issue and its incidence worldwide continues to increase despite several advances in the medical field over the last two decades. Heart failure is not only a problem that burdens the older age but can affect individuals at a younger age as well.&nbsp;

A recent study published in the "Journal of American College of Cardiology" highlighted the increased prevalence of heart failure in young adults (18 to 39 years of age) who are cancer survivors and have previously received anthracycline-based chemotherapy. This study involving approximately 1,300 patients quoted a 2.6-fold higher risk of developing heart failure in such individuals.

<h2>Increasing Incidence of Heart Failure Among Young Adults</h2>

With changing times, evolution in sedentary lifestyles, adoption of Western habits, shift in eating habits and increasing factors like stress, anxiety and obesity, heart diseases including heart failure have been on the rise even among the youth. Recent studies suggest that heart failure accounts for 10 per cent of cardiac transplants in the youth. &nbsp;

Heart failure is a chronic condition which occurs when the heart is unable to pump blood sufficiently to meet the metabolic demands of the tissues in the body. A weakened heart results in inadequate blood supply to the cells leading to fatigue, shortness of breath and other symptoms of heart failure. &nbsp;

Several factors can contribute to heart failure in young individuals, and it's crucial to identify and address these causes for appropriate management and prevention. Here are some common causes of heart failure among youth:

•&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Congenital Heart Defects: Congenital heart defects are structural abnormalities present at birth that affect the heart's function. These defects can disrupt the normal flow of blood and strain the heart over time, potentially leading to heart failure.

•&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Cardiomyopathies: Cardiomyopathies are diseases of the heart muscle that can weaken the heart's ability to pump blood effectively. Dilated cardiomyopathy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and restrictive cardiomyopathy are examples of conditions that can affect young individuals.

•&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Myocarditis: Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle often caused by viral infections. Inflammation can weaken the heart and lead to heart failure, particularly in severe cases.

•&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Genetic Factors: Some genetic conditions, such as familial dilated cardiomyopathy or specific genetic mutations, can predispose individuals to heart failure at a young age.

Also read:&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/lifestyle/news-cannabis-medicines-role-in-womens-wellness--explained-637600">Cannabis medicine's role in women's wellness | Explained</a>

•&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Drug or Substance Abuse: The use of certain drugs, including alcohol, cocaine, amphetamines, or even some prescription medications, can damage the heart and contribute to heart failure.

•&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Autoimmune Disorders: Autoimmune diseases like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis can sometimes affect the heart and lead to inflammation or cardiomyopathy.

•&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Infections: Certain infections, such as HIV or Chagas disease, can directly impact the heart muscle and contribute to heart failure in young individuals.

•&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Toxic Exposures: Exposure to toxins, heavy metals, or radiation can harm the heart and may lead to heart failure.

•&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Obesity: Obesity is a growing concern, and excessive weight can strain the heart and lead to conditions like hypertension and diabetes, which are risk factors for heart failure.

•&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;High Blood Pressure (Hypertension): Uncontrolled high blood pressure can damage the heart's arteries and lead to heart failure, even in younger individuals.

•&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Diabetes: Poorly managed diabetes can damage blood vessels and nerves, affecting the heart's ability to function efficiently.&nbsp;

<h2>Treatments for Heart Failure</h2>

Various methods and therapies are currently available for managing each stage of the condition. There have been remarkable advances in the field of medical treatment for heart failure over the last decade. It remains a progressive condition, and with timely interventions, one can live a normal life. Hence, identifying it at an early stage can be the most beneficial.

<h2>Treatments for Advanced Heart Failure&nbsp;</h2>

In the earlier stages, the treatment consists&nbsp;of medication and lifestyle changes while in the more advanced stages, cardiac transplant, or device implantation (such as pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators) becomes necessary for most patients. Heart transplant is often considered the ultimate destination therapy for end-stage advanced heart failure patients when other treatment options have been exhausted. However, undergoing a transplant is dependent upon some external factors which may be beyond our control such as the availability of a donor organ, the increasing number of patients waiting for transplants and the patient’s medical condition. &nbsp;

In such cases, advanced technological procedures like LVADs can offer a viable option for patients. An LVAD, short for left ventricular assist device, is a battery-powered mechanical pump designed to assist the heart's left side and largest chamber in pumping blood. The long-term survival rates associated with LVADs are comparable to those of heart transplants, and patients often experience an enhanced quality of life after undergoing this procedure. As technology has progressed, LVADs have become increasingly cost-effective, efficient, and user-friendly.

<h2>Maintaining a Healthy Heart</h2>

Many young people with heart failure continue to lead active and fulfilling lives. Taking an active role in the management of their own condition, together with good support, helps keep their heart under control. Bringing about positive changes to lifestyle, in areas such as maintaining a healthy weight, having a balanced diet, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and reducing stress will help manage symptoms, prevent progression, and improve quality of life.&nbsp;

In conclusion, prioritising heart health remains pivotal for young individuals struggling with heart failure. Through proactive self-care, lifestyle enhancements, and steadfast support, they can continue to thrive and lead satisfying lives while effectively managing their condition.&nbsp;

Central to the authors' complaint is the claim that OpenAI's AI systems are generating derivative works based on their original content, thereby potentially diminishing the value and uniqueness of their literary creations. The lawsuit cites specific instances where ChatGPT allegedly produced unauthorised outlines for derivative works, such as a prequel to George RR Martin's renowned series, A Song of Ice and Fire.

Mary Rasenberger, CEO of the Authors Guild, emphasised the importance of protecting the creative efforts of authors. She stated that it is crucial for authors to have control over how their works are used by generative AI to preserve the integrity of literature and artistic expression.

She said in a statement, “It is imperative that we stop this theft in its tracks or we will destroy our incredible literary culture, which feeds many other creative industries in the USGreat books are generally written by those who spend their careers and, indeed, their lives, learning and perfecting their crafts. To preserve our literature, authors must have the ability to control if and how their works are used by generative AI.”

OpenAI has yet to respond to the allegations made in the lawsuit, leaving the tech industry and literary community awaiting their perspective on the matter.

This legal action follows a series of similar lawsuits by authors concerned about the potential misuse of their intellectual property by AI systems. It highlights the ongoing tension between creative rights and the advancements in artificial intelligence.

The impact of authors' concerns has already prompted changes in industry policies. Amazon.com, the largest book retailer in the US, has adjusted its e-book policies in response to these worries. They now require authors to notify them in advance if they intend to incorporate AI-generated content and have implemented restrictions to limit the proliferation of such texts.

The case has broader implications, sparking discussions about the concept of fair use in relation to AI-generated content and setting a potential legal precedent for future disputes in the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence and creative industries.
