Speaking exclusively to WION,&nbsp;Dr Sushruta Mysore Shankar, consultant in Breast Surgery and Surgical Oncology at SPARSH Hospital, sheds light on the intricacies of this delicate situation.

<h2>How does this affect the mother and the unborn child?</h2>

The timing of breast cancer diagnosis during pregnancy has significant implications for both the mother and the unborn child. "If breast cancer is diagnosed in the third trimester, treatment is usually delayed until after childbirth. In some cases, the delivery may be expedited once the baby is mature enough, allowing the mother to receive treatment sooner," says&nbsp;Dr Sushruta.

"However, if breast cancer is detected in the first trimester, there are challenges. Surgery is an option, but breast-conserving surgery (lumpectomy) is limited because it requires radiation therapy, which is unsafe during pregnancy. Therefore, removal of the breast (modified radical mastectomy) may be necessary in the first trimester. Chemotherapy is also contraindicated in the first trimester due to its potential harm to the fetus, but it can be administered safely in the second trimester," adds the medical expert.

"Surgery can be performed in the first and second trimesters, and in the third trimester, it can be combined with chemotherapy and radiation if needed. However, some chemotherapy drugs carry risks of preterm delivery, low birth weight, and intrauterine growth retardation, requiring careful monitoring during pregnancy."

There's a risk of leukopenia (low white blood cell count) during chemotherapy, which affects both the mother and the unborn child.

Chemotherapy is not recommended after 35 weeks of gestation because leukopenia can occur up to three weeks after treatment, coinciding with the delivery period.

Leukopenic newborns are vulnerable to infections. Cesarean sections also pose infection risks for the mother. Frequent ultrasound checks are needed for pregnant patients on chemotherapy due to potential low birth weight or growth issues.

Radiation is strictly avoided during pregnancy and lactation. It's only considered once lactation is complete and when the patient chooses not to continue breastfeeding. Otherwise, radiation is not used during pregnancy or lactation to protect the unborn child's health.

I reached Shatam Jeeva in peak mango season so you can only imagine that I was surrounded by more than 50 varieties of mango trees, wood apple trees, and numerous herbal plants that you have only read as names of ingredients in ayurvedic products.&nbsp;

Over the course of two days, my one-year-old infant and I experienced nature’s bliss. A premium wellness centre that delivers true to its promise, helped us both disconnect with the city life, soak in nature, and gorge on some homemade-style food that was not only healthy but curated with perfection to enjoy the best of season’s offerings and meditate our day away.&nbsp;

There is in-room dining available if you feel the heat and the food comes in steel dabbas in insulated tiffin boxes, one that would remind you of school but as you open those, you’d be visibly surprised with how colourful they pack your lunches and dinners. Salads, millet and ragi-based rotis, at least two&nbsp;sabzi (vegetables prepared with turmeric and Indian spices),&nbsp;kheer (milk-based Indian dessert with rice and coconut), brown rice, dal, chutney with dollops of desi ghee atop most curries are what you can expect. Mind you, their milk and milk-based products come from a dairy they have inside the premises and you can pay the indigenous cows a visit too.

My daughter had the most fun interacting with the cows and she thought they were quite cool. Since it was the first time that my daughter and I were in each other's company alone without any additional family members, I must say, that this wellness centre treated us well. From checking into the centre to our well-planned itineraries, special food menu designed for me as well as for my baby, therapies and activities designed keeping in mind that I was still reeling with postpartum, people at Shatam Jeeva went two steps ahead in making sure that I was relaxed and my baby was entertained while we both soaked in nature, in its most virgin form.&nbsp;

The only drawback I felt in the food department was that they don’t offer you tea or coffee or any additives at any time of the day. (So forget that morning and evening chai time but instead, they can offer you juice or milk or shake (in my case, mango shake).&nbsp;

Moving on from the food at the retreat which is not just healthy but extremely therapeutic, what stood out for me was their focus on health, dedication to a disciplined life and staying true to their aim of reconnecting people with nature. We got up early the following day and indulged in an hour-long yoga and meditation that the practitioners helped us with while correcting our form and guiding us all the way.

I checked myself into a deep-tissue full-body massage that lasted an hour with various oils. Meanwhile, one masseuse kept my baby engaged so that I could enjoy my session stress-free.

People at Shatam Jeeva know what they are doing and have the utmost sense of responsibility for running a luxury wellness centre that is big on offering life-enriching experiences.&nbsp;

Other daytime activities you can indulge in are tree-hugging, forest bathing, forest walking, painting, pottery, mantra chanting, and tree plantation among other things. There's a buggy ride available twice daily if you want to take a look at the forest spread and travel the length and breadth of the area but I'd suggest you walk it if you can because the experience will change you in ways I can't put to words.&nbsp;

But as avant-garde as it was, the installation’s plastic, coupled with an autumnal heat wave, had some attendees likening it to a fashionable, yet sweltering, greenhouse.

The designs? A riot of colours, ludic patterns, and subtle riffs on harlequins. A visual feast that kept the eyes and iPhones flitting from one ensemble to the next.

Yet the decor and fashion might have met their match in star power. The ’70s too had their moment. Striped shirts with open cuffs, reminiscent of this era, fused the delicate and free-spirited vibe against the hard, resolute feel of a box camera styled as a necklace. This distinct contrast — the soft meets the hard — exemplified Ghesquière’s talent for marrying contrasts.

Just before Louis Vuitton’s anticipated show, environmental activists from “Dernière Rénovation” sprayed the brand’s Champs-Elysées storefront with orange paint. Their aim? According to social media, to challenge the luxury brands of Paris Fashion Week and the wealthy attending the specific event. The activists’ shirts, bearing the message “their selfishness kills,” spoke to their cause. Amid this disruption, influencer Jeremstar protested for animal rights, only to be restrained by police. Despite these disturbances, the Vuitton event went ahead and the brand has not issued a response.

The medical expert adds, "Young women also face diagnostic challenges due to increased breast density and the limitations of mammograms and ultrasounds, which can sometimes mimic benign lesions. To address these challenges, a comprehensive approach known as the 'triple test' is recommended, involving clinical evaluation, radiology, and pathological confirmation."

In terms of treatment, young women are generally treated similarly to older patients but require special considerations. These include addressing concerns related to body image, quality of life, sexual health, fertility preservation, and premature menopause.

Gucci's new designer Sabato De Sarno sent out a glamorous, skin-baring lineup of minimalist designs for his first fashion show on Friday, drawing praise for a highly anticipated debut which owner Kering hopes will help revive sales at its flagship brand.

Models filed down a darkened, concrete runway at the label's Milan headquarters, a former aircraft factory, parading short shorts paired with suit jackets, strapless mini-dresses, trim sweatshirts and tank tops with plunging necklines.

De Sarno "knows what we need at the moment, clean luxe sportswear that isn't cheeky sexy," said fashion critic Kenneth Richard, editor in chief of industry publication The Impression.

Federico Giglio, chief executive and business manager of Italy-based high-end fashion retailer Giglio.com, said the collection was "a new way to see luxury - wearable without the need for excess, that keeps with the times."

Friday's catwalk presentation serves as the aesthetic foundation of a broad reset of the French group's prized label -- key to creating buzz and reigniting sales, even if the new designs won't hit stores until early next year.

Thomas Chauvet, analyst with Citi, said the first glimpse of De Sarno's vision for the brand showed "a clear evolution from prior brand aesthetics, likely to attract slightly older demographics and command higher price points."

"Gucci is the opportunity to fall in love with fashion, ancora," De Sarno said in a post on Instagram in the run-up to the show, using the Italian word for "again."

The brand plastered the word "ancora" on huge advertisements that marked the date of the show, alongside the Gucci logo -- in white lettering, on a burgundy backdrop -- covering buildings around the world, including in New York, Chengdu, Bangkok and London.

A forecast of rain prompted a last-minute venue shift to the Milan headquarters rather than outdoors in the swanky Brera district.

Debut collections can generate mixed reactions, and even positive press reviews are not always a proxy for future commercial success. However, the fashion show will "definitely impact investors' perception of De Sarno's capacity to trigger an inflexion in Gucci's aesthetics," said Antoine Belge, analyst with Exane BNP Paribas, before the show.

"The climax is not for right away -- it's sometimes the second or third shows that are the most important," Kering CEO and Chairman Francois-Henri Pinault told reporters ahead of the show, before greeting front-row guests Julia Roberts and Ryan Gosling.

Since parting ways in November with previous creative director Alessandro Michele, whose eclectic, gender-neutral styles were credited with soaring sales and profits in the 2015-2019 period, the group has been laying the groundwork for the brand reset with more elevated and timeless looks.

Gucci's long-time CEO Marco Bizzarri is due to leave the company after the show, to be replaced by managing director Jean-Francois Palus - Pinault's right-hand man - for a transitional period.

Kering shares closed 1.5% higher after the show.

At their current price, Kering shares are trading at the equivalent of around 14 times expected earnings over the next 12 months, according to LSEG data. That forward PE compares to 42 for Hermes and 22 for Moncler.

Models filed down a darkened, concrete runway at the label's Milan headquarters, a former aircraft factory, parading short shorts paired with suit jackets, strapless mini-dresses, trim sweatshirts and tank tops with plunging necklines. De Sarno "knows what we need at the moment, clean luxe sportswear that isn't cheeky sexy," said fashion critic Kenneth Richard, editor in chief of industry publication The Impression. The brand plastered the word "ancora" on huge advertisements that marked the date of the show, alongside the Gucci logo -- in white lettering, on a burgundy backdrop -- covering buildings around the world, including in New York, Chengdu, Bangkok and London. A forecast of rain prompted a last-minute venue shift to the Milan headquarters rather than outdoors in the swanky Brera district. Debut collections can generate mixed reactions, and even positive press reviews are not always a proxy for future commercial success. However, the fashion show will "definitely impact investors' perception of De Sarno's capacity to trigger an inflexion in Gucci's aesthetics," said Antoine Belge, analyst with Exane BNP Paribas, before the show. Checkerboard dominated Versace's catwalk at Milan Fashion Week, with designer Donatella Versace serving up the print on dresses and suits for women's wardrobes next spring.

Models wore collarless jackets and short feminine dresses in pastel colours as well as boxy satin jackets paired with billowy shorts in Friday night's show.

There were also denim outfits, skirt suits in darker black and white tones as well as shiny evening dresses.

Accessories consisted of flat ballerina shoes and hair bows.
