Rohit Sharma-led India opted to bat first versus South Africa and rode on Virat Kohli's 76 to post 176-7 before restricting the Proteas for 169-8 to win by 7 runs courtesy of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya's heroics. After the game, the Indian players passed on&nbsp;the T20 WC trophy to Dravid, who broke into celebrations. Dravid, the former Indian captain, had a stellar run in international cricket from 1996-2012, but never won any major tournament. Nonetheless, his dream was fulfilled, albeit as a coach, courtesy of India's triumph in the just-concluded mega event, held in West Indies and the USA.</p>

<p>After India's sensational win, their former coach Greg Chappell also reacted to the Rohit &amp; Co.'s achievement. He congratulated India and reacted on Dravid winning the title as coach. Dravid-Chappell were the captain-coach duo for India during their infamous 2007 ODI World Cup debacle, in West Indies.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Thus, Chappell said, "Congratulations to India on winning the T20 World Cup. I am particularly pleased for Rahul for being part of the victory. <p>He further opined, "Even today I think it was a great testimony... for the team to lose three wickets in the first six overs, to be in the kind of position we were in, but the boys just kept fighting, they kept believing."</p>

<p>Proteas Women scored 266 in the first innings and were asked to follow on. In their second innings, SA Women scored 373, thanks to hundreds by Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus. While Wolvaardt scored 122, Luus contributed 109. The score, however, wasn't enough for South Africa to evade a humiliating defeat.</p>

<p>Speaking after the match, India coach Amol Mazumadar said: "Luus and Wolvaardt played really well. Credit to them, but hats off to our girls as well. They stuck it out, fought hard and every wicket was earnt. Credit to every single player, even the reserve players."</p>

However, a show of class with the ball and then in the field saw India pull off a great win. Suryakumar Yadav’s catch in the final over was decisive as India restricted South Africa to 169/8 in 20 overs and won the T20 World Cup for the first time since 2007.</p>

<p>South Africa got off to a poor start in their innings as they lost Reeza Hendricks (4) and Aiden Markram (4) in the opening three overs. However, the Proteas then recovered well with Tristan Stubbs (31) and Klaasen stitching a partnership of 58 runs for the third wicket. Despite Stubbs’ wicket, Klaasen continued his onslaught with the bat&nbsp;to keep South Africa in the race. His innings consisted of 5 sixes and 2 fours as he scored 52 off just 27 deliveries.</p>

<p>However, Klaasen’s wicket on the first ball of the 17th over completely changed the course of the match with further wickets of Marco Jansen (2) and David Miller (21) leading to India’s win.</p>

<p>Speaking to reporters after India clinched the T20 World Cup, Binny said Gambhir's appointment was a 'good thing' for Indian cricket.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Gautam Gambhir has got a lot of experience and if he takes the job it's definitely going to be a good thing for Indian cricket,"&nbsp;Roger Binny was quoted as saying by news agency <em>ANI</em>.</p>

<p>"He is experienced that's what India needs. India needs a coach who played the game, and he has played in all three formats of the game."</p>

<p>Under Dravid's tenure, India cultivated a selfless brand of cricket that had been missing for some years. Additionally, the team reached the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) and the 50-over World Cup at home&nbsp;where they just fell shy of the ultimate glory.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Apart from Gambhir, BCCI is keen to bring former South African cricketer, Jonty Rhodes, on board as the fielding coach to replace T Dilip.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has also announced retirement from T20 Internationals after the Men-in-Blue lifted a historic second T20 World Cup trophy, beating South Africa in the final on Saturday (Jun 29).</p>

<p>Jadeja, who played all matches in the tournament, including the all-important summit clash, took to his social media handles to convey the news of his retirement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to T20 internationals. Like a steadfast horse galloping with pride, I’ve always given my best for my country and will continue to do so in other formats," wrote Jadeja.&nbsp;</p>

Ravindra Jadeja announces retirement from T20Is after India’s World Cup victory

<p>India became the T20 World Champion by beating South Africa in a thriller on Saturday (June 29). Suryakumar Yadav's brilliant catch to dismiss David Miller on the first ball of the last over with SA needing 16 runs played a pivotal role in it.</p>

<p>Hardik Pandya, bowling the last over, bowled a low and wide full toss outside off which Miller connected well. The ball travelled to long off region where Surya caught the ball just inside the boundary line but was disbalanced. SKY then popped the ball in the air and crossed the boundary only to comeback inside and catch it again. Have a look at the video below:</p>

It was Maharaj's first and innings' second over after India won the toss and elected to bat first in Barbados.</p>

<p>Two-time T20 World Cup champion and 2024 edition ambassador Chris Gayle says that India are going to be hard to beat in the final of ongoing T20 World Cup. Gayle made the comments in a video shared by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Instagram.</p>

<p>"I haven't seen such a long bad patch for the batters in my ten years playing for Bangladesh. I hope it goes away quickly," said Taskin.</p>

It is quite normal that a team will have problems when important players are not in form. I am hopeful that we can recover from this, and play better soon."</p>

<p>The pacer also conceded the team's overall poor record in the T20Is but assured of good performances in the future.</p>

<p>"We never had great numbers in T20s. We are improving slowly. We cannot just look at minus points; we are in the negative already. We are trying to get a 'plus'. Your frustration is expected. We will give you a good win. You have to keep faith in us. We will give it our best," the vice captain said.</p>
