MG Windsor EV launched in India at INR 10 lakhs with Battery-as-a-Service

JSW MG Motor India on Wednesday launched MG Windsor crossover electric vehicle in the country at INR 10 lakhs (ex-showroom and introductory). The Windsor, which is called a crossover utility vehicle (CUV), is touted to offer the comforts of a sedan and the expanse of an SUV. Built on the Pure EV Platform, the unique selling point of the Windsor EV is that it comes with Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership model. This means that customers can pay for the battery as per usage instead of paying an up-front cost of the battery. The battery rental price is INR 3.5/km.

With this, MG Windsor has become the first passenger car in India to offer a BaaS ownership model. This flexible ownership program makes the electric vehicle more affordable as buyers need to only pay a nominal fee per kilometre driven, which is 40% of the fuel costs of conventional vehicles. Apart from this, the company is offering a first-of-its-kind lifetime battery warranty to the first owner of MG Windsor.

MG Windsor is being offered in three variants: Excite, Exclusive, and Essence; and four colour options: Starburst Black, Pearl White, Clay Beige, and Turquoise Green. Bookings for the vehicle will commence on October 3 on the occasion of Navratri.

MG Motor India is also offering one year of free public charging to the customers of Windsor on its eHUB mobile app. Further, customers will also be offered a 3-60 assured buyback plan for the Windsor which ensures that it will retain 60% of its value after 3 years or 45,000 kms, whichever occurs first.

In terms of design, the MG Windsor features a futuristic AeroGlide design language. On the inside, the manufacturer has installed spacious Aero Lounge seats that can be reclined to 135 degrees for maximum comfort while the Infinity View Glass Roof adds to the spaciousness element of the vehicle. A 15.6-inch infotainment display offers immersive experience and smart connectivity features. The CUV or Crossover Utility Vehicle offers the largest-in-segment boot space of 604 litres.

The Windsor comes equipped with a powerful PMS Motor which is IP67 certified. Its 38 kWh li-ion battery pack offers a range of up to 331 kilometres on a single charge. The vehicle gets four driving modes - Eco+, Eco, Normal and Sport that deliver 100KW (136ps) power and 200Nm of instant torque. Charging time of the vehicle is 40 minutes at any DC fast charger.
