A US carrier, which belonged to Allegiant Airlines, was hit by severe turbulence which led to broken bones and severe injuries to its passengers and crew while it was flying from North Carolina to Florida, according to a report published by the Independent.
According to the outlet, on July 12, Allegiant Airlines Flight 227 took off from North Carolina and was hit by a "powerful turbulence" while heading towards Florida's St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport.

"More than halfway through descending, and all of a sudden, we hit a turbulence, and the stewardess beside us fell. Broken bones, blood gushing from skull: Passengers injured as flight gets caught in severe turbulence

A complicated and unusual surgery, which has been dubbed as a "miracle", was carried out by doctors on a 12-year-boy during which they reattached his head back to his neck after he got involved in an accident with a car while riding a bicycle, reported The Times of Israel.

The boy, named Suleiman Hassan, went through an "internal decapitation" due to which his skull was detached from the top vertebrae of his spine after the accident, according to the news outlet. Scientifically, the condition is called 'bilateral atlanto occipital joint dislocation'.

After the boy met with the accident, he was airlifted to Hadassah Medical Centre where he went for emergency surgery immediately. According to the doctors, his head was "almost completely detached from the base of his neck".

1. The Brief History of the Dead, by Kevin Brockmeier

A post-apocalyptic fantasy novel that narrates the story of humans who are trapped between the living and the dead, and how things unfold once their mysterious city starts to shrink.

2. Lincoln in the Bardo, by George Saunders

The book takes us through the death of Abraham Lincoln’s son William ‘Willie’ Wallace Lincoln and the time after that, and speaks of the grief of the president. The majority of the novel is based on the bardo, which is an intermediate space between life and rebirth.

This 5,000-line poem talks about how hell has managed to survive seven centuries. In this, the journey of Dante through hell has been described, which is guided by the ancient Roman poet Virgil.

4. The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman

The book narrates the story of the boy Nobody ‘Bod’ Owens, who is brutally murdered by his family and then adopted by the supernatural occupants of a graveyard.

The book talks about an evening news presenter who finds himself in hell and struggles to explain his bad fortune. But he is not the only one suffering, and is surrounded by celebrities including Humphrey Bogart, William Shakespeare, popes and US presidents.

The book is based on the author’s theological dream vision in which he reflects on the conceptions of heaven and hell in Christianity.

7. 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World, by Elif Shafak

The book narrates in detail the last 10 Minutes 38 Seconds of the protagonist after her death and the memories of life that swamp her mind.

7 Must-Read Books on Afterlife

In comparison to petrol and diesel cars, in which fuel tank gets filled in seconds, one needs to stop for an ample amount of time to charge an electric vehicle (EV). Even the EVs, which have fast charging, will require a public fast charger.

Similar to any other battery that people use in their daily lives, the lithium-ion batteries which are used in EVs also have limited longevity. The batteries are likely to last for 10 to 12 years and then will need to be changed.

Petrol and diesel cars can run around 800 km after a full tank, however, electric vehicles’ range is limited to 400 km even with a fully charged battery.

The EVs have a higher initial purchase price compared to petrol and diesel cars and two-wheelers. The surge in price is mainly due to high-priced lithium-ion batteries installed in the vehicles.

Although EVs are known to be zero emission vehicles, the energy that is used to charge them may not be clean. In countries like India, non-renewable energy, which is produced by coal plants, is mainly used for recharging EVs.

As EVs are still a new technology, people face a shortage of trained workforce in local workshops for repair and upkeep of these vehicles. Hence, the people owning EVs remain mainly depend on the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) workshops.

Since it is still a new technology which is being adopted by car makers, there is an evident shortage of public charging stations.

7 Disadvantages Of Electric Vehicles

French President Emmanuel Macron conferred Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the country's highest honour, the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, during his official visit to France. Napoleon Bonaparte had established the Legion of Honour which consists of five degrees, among which the Indian prime minister was awarded the highest, the Grand Cross. The colour of the ribbon is red, and a five-armed Maltese asterisk on an oak along with laurel wreath is featured on the badge. Although the membership remains typically reserved for French nationals, foreign individuals who are either serving France or upholding its ideals can also receive this distinction. Annually, around 300 foreign nationals are awarded this honour, in a total membership of over 79,000.
A Florida duo, popularly known as the "Glades Boys", successfully captured the longest-ever recorded Burmese python in the state, which measured 19 feet long and weighed 125 pounds. A local environmental conservancy verified the record catch of the invasive species.

New research has hinted at the possibility of humans living in South America in the same time period when now-extinct giant sloths existed, hence giving evidence of people living in the Americas earlier than believed.

Teardrop-shaped and triangular pendants, made of bony material taken from the sloths, were analysed by the scientists. They reached the conclusion that drilled holes and carved and polished shapes appeared to be the craftsmanship of humans.

The pendants, which are believed to be between 25,000 and 27,000 years old, are the oldest known personal ornaments which have been unearthed in the Americas and the only ones found which are believed to have been made from giant sloth bone in archaeological history, as per palaeontologist Thais Pansani, lead author of a new study on the artefacts.
