Qatar held Israel responsible for the violence and called for the international community to take action against Tel Aviv.

A huge blaze broke out at a firecracker store in the Indian state of Karnataka on Saturday (Oct 7), claiming the lives of at least 12 people.

The incident took place at a firecracker store near Anekal in the Bengaluru&nbsp;city district.

According to the fire department officials, several fire tenders were rushed to douse the blaze as soon as the authorities were informed.

The cause of the fire incident is yet to be ascertained.

"A fire broke out in a firecracker shop suddenly this afternoon. The shop was built right next to the highway. The firework shop was on fire in no time. The warehouse which was next to the firecracker shop also caught fire. The situation is under control," police said.

In the midst of strained diplomatic ties between India and Canada, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said during a telephonic conversation with his Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau that he hopes to see a de-escalation of the row.

Downing Street released a statement saying that the UK PM spoke to Trudeau on Friday evening where he was updated on the situation relating to Canadian diplomats in India.

The two leaders concurred to stay in contact as Sunak affirmed the position of the United Kingdom of respect for the rule of law after Trudeau alleged the involvement of Indian intelligence agents in the murder of Sikh pro-Khalistan hardliner Hardeep Singh Nijjar.&nbsp;

"Prime Minister Trudeau updated on the situation relating to Canadian diplomats in India," read the Downing Street statement.&nbsp;

"The Prime Minister [Sunak] reaffirmed the UK's position that all countries should respect sovereignty and the rule of law, including the principles of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. He hoped to see a de-escalation in the situation and agreed to remain in contact with Prime Minister Trudeau on the next steps," it said.

The telephonic conversation between the two leaders comes in the wake of a statement made by Trudeau in the Canadian Parliament last month where he suggested that India might be linked to the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil.&nbsp;

India has strongly rejected these claims while reiterating its adherence to the rule of law.&nbsp;

The conversation also comes a week after a group of assailants prevented Indian high commissioner to the United Kingdom Vikram Doraiswami from entering a gurdwara in Scotland.

"Sadly, American taxpayer dollars helped fund these attacks, which many reports are saying came from the Biden Administration."

The allegations made by Trump echoed the accusations made by Republicans that claimed the money which was given to Iran as a part of a prisoner exchange deal last month, was used to fund the Hamas attack.

"Iran has helped fund this war against Israel, and Joe Biden's policies that have gone easy on Iran has helped to fill their coffers. Israel is now paying the price for those policies," said Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican running for his party's presidential nomination.

However, a Biden administration official asserted that not a single cent out of the $6 billion has been spent yet.&nbsp;

"I can't comment on 2024 because of the Hatch Act. But I can clarify the facts: Not a single cent from these funds has been spent, and when it is spent, it can only be spent on things like food and medicine for the Iranian people," said White House National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson.

A 65-year-old man, who was charged with stalking an upstate New York woman using his private plane, pleaded not guilty on Thursday (Oct 5).

Michael Arnold was indicted on charges of aggravated stalking, impeding, false information to a police officer, and resisting arrest, Bennington Police Chief Paul Doucette said as per news agency AP reports.

He was released on several conditions that included him having zero contact with the woman, not stalking her and staying approximately 300 feet (91 meters) from her home and business and also from all aeroplanes.

As per an FBI agent, Arnold had been stalking the woman for nearly four years.

He was arrested on Tuesday (Oct 3) as he was driving into the William H. Morse State Airport in Bennington, Vermont. According to the police, he denied the allegations saying that he did not stalk anyone.

Arnold was already served with a temporary order of protection in May to “cease and desist from flying any and all aircraft while the order remains in effect,” Doucette said.

He said that the FBI had informed police that New York authorities were investigating Arnold on suspicion of stalking the woman.

“Officers were able to determine that Arnold was in fact flying his aeroplane from the William H. Morse State Airport and last seen flying west toward New York several days earlier,” AP quoted Doucette as saying.

In the past, Arnold was accused of flying his private plane too low over a residential area.&nbsp;

A research conducted by the Central Water Commission back in 2015 has now grabbed headlines after flash floods in India’s northeastern state of Sikkim wreaked havoc claiming lives of at least 22 people.

As per news agency PTI reports, the study had clearly warned the state government that most of the hydropower projects on the Teesta river are extremely prone to such events.

A Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF), which took place in parts of Lhonak Lake, lead to a rapid rise in water levels with very high velocities downstream along the Teesta River Basin in the early hours of Oct 4.

The CWC analysis, titled “Glacial Lake Outburst Flood–South Lhonak System in Teesta River Basin”, was aimed at studying the impact of GLOF in vulnerable areas and the hydropower projects on the river.

CWC investigators found out that GLOFs in glacial lakes in the river basin could lead to extreme flash floods downstream, affecting areas like Lachen, Chungthang, Dikchu, Singtam, Manipal, Rangpo, Bara Mungwa villages, and the entirety of hydropower projects Teesta I to VI along a 175-km stretch of the river.

The 2015 research also predicted a probable increase in the river’s water level by 4.45 metres due to a GLOF at South Lhonak Lake.

It assessed that the lake could release water at a rate of 6,210 cubic metres per second, which could reach Chungthang and the Teesta III projects within two hours.

Surprisingly, the study had also underlined the need for the hydropower project authorities to take the findings into consideration and accordingly develop mechanisms for close monitoring of the lakes.

According to news agency PTI reports, experts say that despite issuing multiple warnings, the authorities failed to install early warning systems.

“Multiple studies, including one by the commission, had cautioned the state authorities about the GLOF hazard in the upper Teesta River region. We currently have one flood forecasting station 20 km upstream of Chungthang. More stations can be installed if the state submits a proposal,” a CWC official said on condition of anonymity.

According to the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA), the disaster has killed at least 22 people, including seven army jawans, whereas 103 others are missing.

Sikkim flash floods: Central Water Commission’s study alerted authorities about lake outburst in 2015

In the midst of strained diplomatic ties between India and Canada, New Delhi is set to raise concerns with the Canadian speaker of the Senate during the Parliament-20 meeting of the G20 nations' presiding officers, which is scheduled to take place next week in the national capital, said Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday (Oct 6).

The presiding officers of 25 countries and 10 deputy speakers from the G20 member nations and invitee countries are expected to take part in the P20 Summit which will be held at the India International Convention and Expo Centre, Yashobhoomi, at Dwarka on Oct 13 and 14.

The G20 Parliamentary Speakers' Summit (P20) will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Oct 13.

Canada will be represented by Speaker of the Senate Raymonde Gagne at the P20 Summit.&nbsp;

"We will discuss issues that have been listed for the summit. Other issues will be discussed informally," Birla said on being asked whether the matter of using the Canadian Parliament to level allegations against India will be raised with the Canadian presiding officer.

A diplomatic standoff erupted between India and Canada after PM Trudeau suggested in his address to the House of Commons that India might be linked to the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil. Ottawa also expelled a senior Indian diplomat even as the investigation continues.

However, India has strongly rejected these claims, while reiterating its adherence to the rule of law. New Delhi has also called on Ottawa to check the rampant anti-India activities on Canadian soil and respect the territorial integrity of India.

<h2>India demands parity in diplomatic presence with Canada</h2>

The Ministry of External Affairs, on Thursday (Oct 5), demanded 'parity' in diplomatic presence with Canada citing their continued "interference" in India's "internal matters".

During a press briefing, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, "Given the much higher presence of diplomats or diplomatic presence here...and their continued interference in our internal matters, we have sought parity in our respective diplomatic presence. Discussions are ongoing on the modalities of achieving this".

"Given that Canadian diplomatic presence is higher, we would assume that there would be a reduction," he added.

<h2>Security of Indian diplomats in UK</h2>

Bagchi said that India has been taking up concerns about the security of Indian diplomats and premises with the UK authorities.

"We have been taking up concerns about the security of our diplomats and our premises and other elements related to people there who are, wanted by our security or our judicial systems and we will continue to do that. And that's an ongoing conversation. I don't want to get into individual persons," he said.

On our part, we will continue with our efforts to assist the people of Afghanistan," said Bagchi.

"However, we received communication last week purportedly from the embassy, indicating that it intends to suspend operations at the end of September. Of course, such a decision is an internal matter of a foreign mission. However, we have noted that the Afghan consulates general in Mumbai and in Hyderabad voiced their objection to that decision or to such a decision," the MEA spokesperson added.
