The union territories of Jammu and Kashmir will be hosting the 2023 meetings of the G20 summit.&nbsp;This influential grouping brings together the world's major economies, with the government on Thursday setting up a five-member high-level committee for overall coordination, as reported by PTI.&nbsp;The summit is likely to be held in January 2023.

This will be the first major international summit in Jammu and Kashmir after the erstwhile state's special status guaranteed under Article 370 of the Constitution was withdrawn and divided into two union territories in August 2019.

The Political parties in the Kashmir Valley have welcomed the step. '' The G20 summit is not only a proud moment for the union territory but for the whole country. It used to happen in foreign countries and now happening here. It is a great thing. They discuss the business plans and all strong nations like France, Britain and Germany are a part of it. They plan a roadmap for the future and it's a proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir. The PM has been working on the development of Jammu and Kashmir and this&nbsp;proves it. After the abrogation of article 370, this summit being held here is something no one would have dreamt of, there is a change on the ground in the valley, '' said Altaf Thakur, state spokesperson, Bharatiya Janata Party.

Some leaders also congratulated the state and central government for managing to host this summit in the union territory. ''It's great news. We welcome this, holding a summit here will give Jammu and Kashmir a push for peace. This also shows that peace is returning to the valley. We appreciate it and it's the hard work of the Delhi government as well as the state government. '' G M Shaheen, state president,&nbsp;Janata Dal (United).

In September last year, Union Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal was appointed India's Sherpa for the G20. The Ministry of External Affairs had said that India will hold the G20 presidency from December 1, 2022, and will convene the G20 leaders' summit in 2023 for the first time.

According to an official order issued on Thursday, the Union Territory's housing and urban development department principal secretary will be the chairman of the committee which was formed in response to a June 4 communication from the Ministry of External Affairs.

"Sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of a committee? for overall coordination of G20 meetings to be held in the Union Territory of J&amp;K," the order issued by Principal Secretary, General Administration Department, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi said, as reported by PTI.

The members of the committee include Commissioner Secretary (Transport), Administrative Secretary (Tourism), Administrative Secretary (Hospitality and Protocol) and Administrative Secretary (Culture).

"Further, principal secretary to the government, housing and urban development department is also nominated as UT level nodal officer to coordinate the arrangements for G-20 meetings in the Union Territory of J&amp;K," the order said.

Prime Minister Modi has led India's representation at G20 summits since 2014. India has been a member of the G20 since its inception in 1999. According to the MEA, India will be part of the G20 Troika (preceding, current, and incoming G20 Presidencies) from December 1, 2021, till November 30, 2024.

The G20 brings together 19 of the world's leading economies and the European Union, with its members accounting for more than 80 per cent of global GDP, 75 per cent of global trade and 60 per cent of the worldwide population, according to the MEA.

The G20 member nations are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Jammu and Kashmir is hosting the first first-ever National Rowing Championship on the world-famous Dal Lake. The government is keen on making the Union Territory a water sports hub of India. Around 550 athletes from 23 states of India are competing in the championship. 50 rowing coaches have come from across India to help these athletes in the tournament. ''This is a prestigious championship for the Jammu and Kashmir, It is the first National rowing championship to be held here. This will boost the water sports in the Valley. There are 23 states participating with 600 athletes. In our Dal Lake, people have come from across the country. The federation after seeing the arrangements has said that they want to arrange international events like these here as well. It's a proud moment for us. We are using the best equipment. There are many award-winning athletes participating. We are blessed with water sports, we want to bring Kashmir on the world map of water sports. Dal lake has become a hub of water sports. Jammu and Kashmir will host International events in the future,'' said Bilquis Mir, Director of Watersports.&nbsp;

The Kashmir Valley's water sports department has been provided with the best infrastructure and equipment for the athletes. The government has paid special attention to water sports to help grow the sports culture across the Union territory. As Kashmir is gifted with natural water resources, the sports authorities are saying that Kashmir could be the next destination for National and International water sporting events in the future.&nbsp;

One is the challenger National where novices are taking part and second is the sub junior,'' said Raj Laxmi Singh, President Rowing Federation of India.&nbsp;

The government is emphasising not only water sports but all sports activities in the Union Territory. Earlier, one lakh players from across the country used to get the opportunity to play in a year in Jammu and Kashmir. Last year the number increased to 1.7 million. In 2022,&nbsp;3.5 million players are expected to participate in different disciplines of sports across the UT. In order to ensure equal opportunity, 50% participation of girls is being ensured in the talent development program.

''It's a national tournament and athletes from every corner of India have come to participate. It's a big opportunity for the people of Kashmir Valley so that Srinagar produces some national and international level athletes, that's why the Government decided to hold this National level tournament. We are seeing a lot of participation for this tournament from across. The local team of JK has also shown exemplary talent and have reached the finals. Jammu and Kashmir Police has gunned down 7 terrorists in last 24 hours. Three of them were Pakistani.&nbsp;

Three anti-terror operations were carried out in North and South Kashmir in last 24 hours. The first operation took place in Kupwara district of North Kashmir, 4 terrorists were killed in that operation. The second operation took place in South Kashmir's Kulgam district where 2 terrorists were killed. Third operation took place in Pulwama district where one terrorist was killed.&nbsp;

“Kupwara police arrested terrorist Shaukat Ahmed Sheikh, a resident of Shopian yesterday. After his interrogation he revealed that Pakistani terrorists were hiding in the Lolab area, he was taken to the place where four terrorists were hiding and in the encounter 3 Pakistani terrorists and Shaukat were killed in the operation," said Inspector General Police, Vijay Kumar.&nbsp;

All the terrorists killed in Kupwara encounter were associated with the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.&nbsp;

“An operation was carried out in Pulwama in the night in which a local terrorist was killed who belonged to Lashkar," said Vijay Kumar, IG Kashmir.&nbsp;

In the third operation in South Kashmir's Kulgam district, two terrorists belonging to Jaish and LeT were killed in the encounter. &nbsp;

“Two terrorists have been killed in Kulgam operation so far, one of them Zakir was associated with Jaish while the other terrorist was with the LeT. The operation continues," said Kumar.&nbsp;

The Jammu and Kashmir Police said that 6 terrorists out of the 7 killed belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba&nbsp;terror outfit while 1 to Jaish-e-Mohammed.&nbsp;

This year, security forces in the valley have killed 114 terrorists so far. 33 among them were foreigners, mostly Pakistani. There have been 19 civilian deaths in the valley this year and 16 security personnel have also have lost their lives.&nbsp;

Police say that 52 terrorists were killed till this time last year. This year, the number has increased more than twofold.&nbsp;

This year, Jammu and Kashmir Police has also arrested 46 active terrorists and 189 over-the-ground workers.

Two encounters in Kashmir Valley, Pakistani terrorist killed

An off-duty police officer was shot dead by terrorists in the Samboora area of South Kashmir’s Awantipora district. He was found in a paddy field near his home on Saturday morning.

The police officer has been identified as Sub-inspector Farooq Ahmad. He was posted in the Indian Reserve Police (IRP) battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The 50-year-old sub-inspector was on leave.&nbsp;"Dead body of Farooq Ah Mir of Samboora Si(M) posted in IRP 23 BN was found in paddy fields near his home. Preliminary investigation reveals that he had left his home for work in his paddy fields yesterday in the evening, where he was shot dead by terrorists using a pistol,'' said Vijay Kumar, Inspector General, Jammu and Kashmir Police.&nbsp;

According to the officer's family, he had gone to the fields to water the crop. The family kept calling him during the day, but he didn't pick up his phone, following which they went to check on him and found him dead.&nbsp;

''He had gone to the field. I had spoken to him over the phone in the morning. But as hours went by, and didn’t return, I kept calling him all day. When we went out to see him, Farooq was found lying in a pool of blood. I won't leave the killers. I want them to be punished for this crime. I hope the police find the culprits,” said the police officer's daughter, whose identity has not been disclosed due to security reasons.

Farooq Ahmad is survived by his father, wife and three children (two daughters and a son).

The targeted killings in the valley have been on the rise. This is the 18th target killing that has taken place in the state. Forces have intensified anti-terror operations in the valley and killed 106 terrorists till now.

Pakistan continuously tries to disturb peace in our country, says Indian Defence Minister

Earlier Jammu and Kashmir Police had claimed that terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit Zubair Sofi and Yawar Dar were trapped in the cordon. They were involved in the killing of Hindu teacher Rajni Bala in Kulgam.&nbsp;

This is the seventh encounter in the last six days in the Kashmir Valley. Security forces have intensified the anti-terror operation across Kashmir Valley. Security has been put on high alert ahead of the Amarnath Yatra.&nbsp;

According to Jammu and Kashmir police, 106 terrorists have been killed in 65 encounters in the Valley this year. Authorities also revealed that 30 foreign terrorists were among the killed this year and 16 security personnel and 17 civilians to have lost their lives in various terror incidents.&nbsp;

Two operations underway in Kashmir Valley, one terrorist killed in Kulgam

Two terrorists belonging to the Lashker-e-Taiba group were killed by security forces in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti has alleged that Nupur Sharma's remarks on Prophet Muhammad were well-planned and was to take away the attention from the killings of civilians and Kashmiri Pandits in the valley. One Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist killed in Srinagar encounter

Three terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed by security forces during an encounter in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

One of the terrorists was responsible for the killing of police officer Reyaz Ahmad.

“In the ensuing encounter, three local terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of the encounter. They have been identified as Junaid Ahmad Sheergojri of Gadoora Pulwama, Fazil Nazir Bhat of Drabgam Pulwama and Irfan Ahmad Malik of Arabal Nikas Pulwama.” said Vijay Kumar, Inspector General, Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The encounter ensued following a tip-off about their presence in the area. Then a joint search operation was launched by the police, Indian Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Saturday at 6.55 pm in the Drabgam village area of Pulwama.

When the team approached their hideout, the terrorists opened fire indiscriminately which was effectively retaliated by the security personnel, leading to an encounter.

“As per police records, all the three killed terrorists were part of groups involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on police and civilians. Deceased Junaid Sheergojri, along with his associate Abid Hussain Shah of Monghama Pulwama, who stands neutralised on May 30, was involved in the killing of police personnel Reyaz Ahmad at his residential house on May 13.”

“Besides, he was also involved in the recent attack on outside labourers at a brick kiln in Chadoora on June 2 in the outskirts of Pulwama-Budgam axis, in which one labourer was killed and others injured,” the J&amp;K Police chief, Kumar, said.

The police have found incriminating materials, arms &amp; ammunition, including two &nbsp;AK-47 rifles and a pistol from the encounter site.

Kashmir valley has witnessed 60 encounters so far, wherein 99 terrorists, including 28 from Pakistan, have been gunned down.

The security forces have arrested 47 active terrorists and 185 terror associates. This year, 17 civilians and 16 security personnel have been killed in terror-related incidents.

Kashmir valley has witnessed 60 encounters so far, wherein 99 terrorists, including 28 from Pakistan, have been gunned down. The security forces have arrested 47 active terrorists and 185 terror associates. This year, 17 civilians and 16 security personnel have been killed in terror-related incidents.

Kashmir: Three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists killed in Pulwama encounter

One terrorist has been killed in an ongoing encounter in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Security forces had a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the Drangbal village of Pulwama. Forces lead a cordon and search operation, and during the search, terrorists fired on security forces resulting in a gun battle.&nbsp;

“01 terrorist killed. Operation going on. Further details shall follow.” said Jammu and Kashmir Police.&nbsp;

In the last 24 hours, this is the second encounter in the Kashmir Valley. Earlier, one terrorist of Hizb ut-Tahrir was killed in the Kulgam district.&nbsp;

&nbsp;“Acting on specific information generated by Police regarding the presence of a terrorist in village Khandipora village of Kulgam, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army 9 Rashtriya Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force 18 Battalion&nbsp;in the said village. In the ensuing encounter, a categorized terrorist identified as Rasiq Ahmed Ganie resident of Shouch Kulgam of proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen&nbsp;was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of the encounter,'' said Jammu and Kashmir Police.&nbsp;

As per police records, the killed terrorist was involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on&nbsp;police/security forces and civilian atrocities.
