On the third anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir government has thrown open an international-level football stadium in Srinagar. The stadium has been constructed as per the norms of FIFA.&nbsp; The centuries-old Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar has been given a facelift and upgraded to host national and international football tournaments. With a capacity of over 20,000 people, 44 crore rupees have been spent on the stadium. The stadium can hold day and night matches and tournaments.

Kashmir has always been known for football as it’s been the most favourite among the Kashmiri youth. And with the new international-level stadium, it will promote the sport&nbsp;further and the youth will get an international platform in their own city.

“For the youth of Kashmir, Bakshi Stadium has always been a place of dreams for the youth who made it so big in the sport. The upgraded and renovated stadium is handed over to those who love the sport. It was PM Narendra Modi, who had given clear orders that this stadium should be made according to FIFA standards. I am happy that with a cost of 50 crores, we are handing over the stadium to the youth of valley. I am thankful to sports council, and everyone associated. I am hopeful that the youth from Jammu and Kashmir will make India proud. Jammu and Kashmir is becoming a hub of sports,” said&nbsp;Manoj Sinha,&nbsp;LG, Jammu and Kashmir.

“The better the infrastructure, the better the talent. I am hoping we will have international-level footballers after the opening of this stadium. All the arrangements have been made according to FIFA rules. I am hoping that the passion that the Kashmiri youth&nbsp;have for football will take them to big heights,” said&nbsp;Ishfaq Ahmad, football coach.&nbsp;

Government of India is making all efforts to promote sports in J&amp;K from the last three years. Not only football, but many sports are being started in Kashmir and for this infrastructure is being provided to youth. The government wants to keep&nbsp;the youth away from drugs and other vices.

“It felt extremely great to play on this ground. A lot of people used to play here. And after a long time, we are seeing so many people back in this stadium. Holding international level tournaments here would mean that international sports people will come and they will inspire us to do better," said&nbsp;Mehvish Rashid, a sportsperson.

The youth of the valley says it's one of the best news they have heard in a long time. They are hopeful that the platform provided to them would make sure that they play for international tournaments.

"As a sportsperson, this is the happiest news, the stadium will hold international tournaments. For the players, it’s a great thing that stars we have seen only on TV will be playing on a ground in our city and that will be so inspiring. " said&nbsp;Mohd Ayhan, a sportsperson.

With the opening of this stadium, the government hopes that the youth of the valley will get a new direction.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has organised multiple events across the Union Territory. A multi-speciality hospital was inaugurated by the LG of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha in Srinagar's Nowgam area.&nbsp;

"After the abrogation of article 370, Jammu and Kashmir is on the road to development and prosperity. This hospital is fully digital, while we are also planning to make all hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir fully digital. Everything has changed in the Valley, people who can’t see the change need to wear glasses. We are also starting two AIIMS in Jammu and Kashmir as well. We are planning to make a cancer institute in the Valley too. We have provided every citizen in Jammu and Kashmir with 5 lakh rupee insurance," said Sinha.

Meanwhile, in South Kashmir's Kulgam area, an encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces. Two terrorists are said to be trapped at the encounter site. Late last night, terrorists also hurled grenade on outside labourers at Gadoora area of Pulwama in South Kashmir, killing one labourer and injuring two others.

The ADGP of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Vijay Kumar, while taking stock of the security situation in Srinagar's Lal Chowk area said that "normalcy on the anniversary of abrogation of Article 370 &nbsp;is a big achievement for the people of Jammu Kashmir and a big blow to Pakistan-sponsored terrorists who always try to fuel violence in the Valley".&nbsp;

While responding to yesterday's attack on migrant workers, he said, "Two Lashkar terrorists are involved in this incident and they have been identified and will be brought to justice soon."

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti took out a protest rally in Srinagar demanding the restoration of Article 370. Mufti and her supporters were stopped by a large contingent of police and paramilitary forces near polo view and were taken back to party headquarters.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Jammu and Kashmir has unearthed a $54,000 ''Biryani'' scam against the former Jammu Kashmir Football Association (JFKA) office bearers. The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau&nbsp;has filed an FIR against JKFA officials for misappropriation of funds of around $57,000 received from the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council (JKSC).

The initial enquiry conducted by the ACB shows the funds sanctioned by the government of India through JKSC&nbsp;to organise tournaments like Khelo India and Mufti Memorial Gold Cup were not utilised properly. A complaint was registered by a local Kashmiri Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat of Sopore alleging that funds allotted by JKSC and other government and semi-government agencies, for conducting football activities across J&amp;K were misused.&nbsp;

Biryani as refreshment for football players

“During the investigation, it was found that members of J&amp;K Football Association showed an amount of $54,000 paid to Mughal Darbar, Polo View Srinagar (a famous restaurant in Srinagar) for purchase of biryani as refreshment for the teams. But no such refreshment has ever been given to any team in any district of Kashmir province. '' said an ACB official. ''The bills raised and placed on record in this regard have been found to be fake.'' ACB stated in the FIR.

ACB during the probe also found out that the bills produced bore the same handwriting, thus being proved forged. The amount has been drawn by preparing false and fabricated bills by the J&amp;K Football Association members.&nbsp;

“Similarly, an amount of $1800&nbsp;was shown paid to Hindustan Photostat for various activities, which during inquiry also were found to be fake and prepared by resorting to forgery. An amount of $1300 was shown paid to Jan Hardware Tengpora by-pass Srinagar which was found non-existing,” the contents of the FIR read.

The Lincoln Book of Records mentioned on its official website, "New world record for the first time in the world to write the Holy Quran on a 14.5 inch and 500-meter white scroll paper."

Jamil picked up calligraphy to improve his handwriting. And in the year 2017, he first started writing verses from the Holy Quran. Later, he decided to write the whole Quran in his calligraphy. Jamil first wrote a Quran in the year 2018, which weighed 21kgs and was completed in 11 months. And in December 2021, he started working on the 500-meter scroll and completed it in 7 months.&nbsp;

''I started in the year 2016, I wanted to improve my handwriting and when I saw that I could write calligraphy, I started writing the holy book of Quran. In 2018 I wrote a Quran which weighed 21 Kgs, In 2021 I thought of writing the longest Quran. And I think it was God's wish that I was able to write the Quran. It took me 7 months to complete the whole Quran. It was accepted by the Lincoln Book of World Records; I had applied with many other record-making organisations. I had less budget so couldn't do it at a much bigger level, '' said Mustafa-ibn-Jamil, calligrapher.

For this project, Jamil had to move to New Delhi, as the scroll paper was not available in the Kashmir Valley. He said that he couldn't have brought the raw material to Kashmir as it was too heavy to be carried from Delhi to Srinagar. He took 2 months to arrange the whole material. He worked 18 hours every day to finish the 500-metre scroll in 7 months.

''I used a special paper called 135 GSM, there are various types of papers on which we can write. The paper was not available in the valley in the roll form, so I went to Delhi, and I had to complete the whole project there. I couldn't have come with so much stuff to the valley, The pen also is different from what I have used for the writing of the Quran, The ink which we use is also special, "said Mustafa-ibn-Jamil, calligrapher.&nbsp;

The total cost of the project was about 2.5 lakh rupees. It took Jamil a month to laminate the whole 500-metre scroll. Jamil has also registered for the Asian Book of Records, the Indian Book of Records, and the International Book of Records for which documentation is under process.

Kashmiri calligrapher writes Quran on 500 metres scroll, creates a record

For the first time in the history of Amarnath Yatra, Jammu and Kashmir government has ensured that the Yatra will be a zero-waste pilgrimage. The Jammu and Kashmir government is making sure that the pilgrimage does not impact or affect the environment. More than 300 volunteers have been stationed to collect and process the waste produced around the various routes.&nbsp;

Around 10 tonnes of waste is produced every day along the Amarnath Yatra route from both the base camps. And this time, the government has made sure that the waste is processed on the spot. The Directorate of sanitation, the rural development department along with IIT Indore's 'SWAHA' start-up have started this initiative which could lead as an example for the rest of the country.&nbsp;

''It is a very unique kind of programme, the first time in India that a particular religious event that too of a massive scale is being organised in such a way that it becomes a zero-landfill event and a sustainable one. So, because of the help and steps taken by the rural development department of Kashmir, we have been given the responsibility as a start-up, we are from Indore, and it's called SWAHA that we make this yatra zero landfill and a sustainable one,'' said Sameer Sharma, Director SWAHA.&nbsp;

More than 12 processing units have been placed along the route. The organic waste is converted into compost and inorganic waste is further segregated and sent across to the recycling units.&nbsp;"Whatever waste is being generated in this yatra has to be taken care of very scientifically, we have been collecting the waste, we have to process it and dispose of it off. It will be a great benchmark for all such events across the nation," said Sameer.&nbsp;

Located right below Tiger Hill, around 8 kilometres from the Drass valley is another valley called Mashku Valley. And, in this small hamlet lives Yaar Mohammad Khan.&nbsp;

Yar Mohammad Khan, 65, was the first person who witnessed and saw the intruders from Pakistan in Drass valley. He directly went to the Indian Army base and apprised them of the presence of Pakistani Army men in the area.

He had found two packs of cigarettes, which were made in Pakistan, and he took these to show to the commanding officer of the Indian Army.&nbsp;

On May 8, 1999, Khan informed the Indian Army about the presence of the Pakistani army men; and, on May 13, the Pakistan Army launched the attack at various points.&nbsp;

Khan, along with the eight Sikh Regiment soldiers and 18 Grenadier Regiment&nbsp;of the Indian Army went to conquer Tiger Hill and Batra Top. Khan not only worked as a guide to the Indian army in the tough terrain but also helped them to transport arms and ammunition on horses at night. He was with the Indian army when both the peaks were re-captured.&nbsp;

“I was working as a porter and when I was crossing the area, I found two packs of cigarettes which were made in Pakistan. I directly went to the Indian Army’s commanding officer and asked him to check. &nbsp;He told me that he will take a team with him. He believed me when he saw those cigarette packets. I had informed on May 8 and on May 13 Pakistani Army started firing. The war started in the Tololing area. I was with 8 Sikh Regiment soldiers&nbsp;and 18 Grenadier Regiment&nbsp;on Tiger Hill, they started firing after that it was 18 grenadiers.” said Yaar Mohammad Khan.&nbsp;

At that time there were hardly any civilians in the area, but Yaar Mohammad Khan didn’t leave and provided all the help to the Indian army.

“There was not a single person in the area. I didn’t leave but I let my family go. I went to Tiger and Batra Hills with the army. I brought 350 horses from the Amarnath Yatra. We are Indians and will always be. I am from these mountains and I was making sure they receive all the support.” added Khan.&nbsp;

But there was one person who never left Drass valley despite all the shelling. That is Naseem Ahmad, who was running a small tea stall outside the premises of Drass Police station.&nbsp;

Naseem never shut the tea stall and made sure that every Indian army soldier crossing the area had tea at the stall. While the area was being bombarded with bombs and bullets, Naseem chose to stay put and serve the soldiers of his country.&nbsp;

“ During the war, it was only journalists, the Indian Army and me. I was a little scared, but the army men needed our help also. I used to make food for the soldiers. It was an extremely bad situation. The shelling was so bad that the ground used to shake a lot. I had a narrow escape in one of the shelling incidents. I am proud of the fact that I was able to provide food to our soldiers,"&nbsp;said&nbsp;Naseem Ahmad, a tea stall owner.&nbsp;

Bilal Ahmad, a math's teacher by profession, always wanted to make an affordable, sustainable and luxurious vehicle that not only wealthy people could buy but also people from the lower economic strata. Bilal has been taking out two hours every day for over a decade to work on this solar car and paying for it from his own pocket.&nbsp;

Bilal says that it is the right time for launching a solar car in the Indian market. He has spent around 15 lakh Indian rupees for making this solar car. He says the car could be made in around one million rupees if all goes according to his plan. And after the successful trial run of the solar car on the Srinagar roads, many Indian car manufacturing companies have approached him to work further on his project.&nbsp;

''My morale has been boosted by major companies approaching me for it. I knew my hard work would not go to waste. I spend so much time on this, every day I used to sit on it for two hours. And I knew I would get a great response and with God's help I have got good companies approaching me. It's an eco-friendly car with zero pollution, Its extremely affordable and it is a future car. '' said Bilal Ahmad, Inventor/ Professor.&nbsp;

Bilal's solar car is unique and everybody part of the car is covered with a solar panel. From the bonnet to the rear windshield every possible space is covered by these panels making sure to generate the maximum energy for the vehicle to work smoothly.&nbsp;

Bilal has chosen monocrystalline solar panels, which have photovoltaic cells completely made of single silicon crystal. These cells produce more kilowatt-hours of electricity than the regular ones. The other important feature of the car is ''Gullwings, which open upwards with solar panels fitted to them.&nbsp;

Bilal's dream of making India's Solar car is slowly coming to realisation. He has spent thousands of hours on making this car and now he is further working on the speed and mileage of the car.&nbsp;

''I started making this car in 2019, I had read at that time that the future petrol prices would skyrocket, and It gave me an idea to make a car which will be free energy, that is solar energy. I made an electric car and then converted it into a Solar car. There were many solar cars made in India, but they were only a prototype and those didn't have the regular features. My car has all the regular features, and I can proudly say that it's India's first Solar car with all the luxury. It's just the start and I will work on it more and it will be a challenge for other companies. It took me 13 years, the weight was the major issue which took me a long to work on, the battery pack is less at the moment and needs to be increased which will make it a fast car with good mileage. To engage the youth of Kashmir Valley into various sports activities, the Indian army has kick-started the fifth edition of the Kashmir Premier League. Over 3200 youngsters are a part of the Kashmir Premier League, with 200 teams from the valley participating. In the first knock-out, out of these 200 teams, 10 have been selected for the final phase of Kashmir Premier League 2022.&nbsp;

The main motive of starting the Kashmir Premier League is to provide a platform for the youngsters to take up sports as their career. And also, to keep youth away from drugs and other vices.&nbsp;

''We Chinar Corp started the Kashmir Premier League in 2011 and after a long break last year we started it again. This year we are organising it on a bigger level and 3200 students have been involved in this tournament. Over 200 teams participated and 3000 officials and games in charge have been engaged in it. We are motivating the youth. The youngsters are extremely happy about the army organising the event. '' said Brigadier Tarun Narula, commander of Chinar Air Defence Brigade.&nbsp;

While the Indian army is engaged in anti-terror operations in the Kashmir Valley, at the same time they are engaging the youth of the valley into sports and other activities which can make their future bright. "I have no information about it, nor do the engineers or the scientists of the country, but if someone has, I can't comment on it, but I am asking some specialists to look into it and find out the details," said Manoj Sinha, LG Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;

There were apprehensions this year about flash floods in the same area. The government had therfore asked the irrigation and flood control department to construct a boundary wall and divert the flow of water for safety of the Yatris. Government says that damage due to flash floods would have been extensive had the wall not been built.

"Some reports are saying that we did not take care. At the time of the flash floods last year and in 2015, we had asked the irrigation and flood control department to make a wall to while keeping the pattern of the flow of the water in mind, and many scientists I spoke with said if the wall wasn't made, the damage would have been much more," said Manoj Sinha, LG Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;

To safeguard the Amarnath Yatra, the government is getting a digital contour mapping of the area done by the Surveyor Director General of India and also in talks to scientists about what else can be done in the area.&nbsp;

For the first time ever, the Indian national flag has been made on a silk wall hanging by a Kashmiri artisan Maqbool Dar in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district. Maqbool’s motive for making the Indian National Flag on a&nbsp;silk wall hanging is to bring the attention of government authorities towards the dying art as well as the artisans.&nbsp;

Maqbool hails from Ashtengoo Village of Bandipora district and runs a carpet weaving unit with over 40 women working in the unit. The carpet industry of Kashmir Valley was hit badly due to the Covid-19 pandemic. &nbsp;And a year ago, Maqbool had the idea of making an Indian flag by weaving a silk carpet, it took him around three months to make this art piece.&nbsp;

“I thought about this a year ago and I want this carpet to be put up at Red Fort in New Delhi. I wish to put it up myself there. It will be visible to everyone from there and people will notice the Kashmir craft which would help us artisans. The main idea is to bring attention of the government towards the art and artisans. I also made tiranga because I really wanted to, every office including PM Modi and all top officials have an Indian flag in the office and that’s how I got the I made it, “said&nbsp;Maqbool Dar, artisan.&nbsp;

Maqbool has been weaving carpets for over 30 years, and not only is he running his household but also employees 40 women in his village in the carpet weaving unit he runs. Maqbool says if the government doesn’t come to the rescue of the artisans, the art would die soon.&nbsp;

“I always wanted to help the women folk, so that they can support themselves. Around 40 girls are working with us, and I hope the government supports us otherwise it’s very difficult for us to survive. The craft is dying and if we are not helped then we will lose this art and craft.” said Maqbool Dar.&nbsp;

Around half a million women are associated with the craft industry in the Kashmir Valley. And those women associated with the carpet industry say that if they are not supported by the government, the art will die and that would be the end of their employment as well.&nbsp;

“Around 30-40 girls are here in these units. We are extremely thankful to Maqbool for helping us by starting the unit. He gave us the right way. The only issue we face is the rates that we get. The police officer killed in the attack has been identified as ASI Mushtaq Ahmad. The other two police cops were shifted to the hospital and are being treated.&nbsp;

“ASI Mushtaq Ahmad succumbed to his injuries &amp; attained martyrdom. We pay rich tribute to the martyr for his supreme sacrifice made in the line of duty. Other two injured personnel are being treated. Further details shall follow,” said Jammu and Kashmir Police IG, Vijay Kumar.

The area has been cordoned by security forces and search for the terrorists involved in the incident has been started.
