''From the incriminating materials recovered, the 03 killed terrorists have been identified as Pakistani, affiliated with terror outfit LeT. So far, 26 foreign terrorists (14 Jaish-e-Muhammed &amp; 12 Lashkar-e-Taiba) have been neutralised this year,'' said Vijay Kumar, IG Kashmir Police.&nbsp;

Kashmir has witnessed 50 encounters this year, in which 78 terrorists have been killed, out of which 26 were foreigners, mostly of Pakistani origin.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir Police and Indian Army intercepted a group infiltrating into the Valley. The terrorists were tracked, and later gunfight started leading to an encounter. There was an encounter yesterday in North Kashmir's Kreeri area as well in which three terrorists were killed.

Jammu and Kashmir’s pro-Pakistan separatist leader Yasin Malik was sentenced to life imprisonment by a special Delhi court on Wednesday.

The Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) judge, Praveen Singh, handed out two imprisonments apart from 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in 10 offences and Rs 1 million penalty (US $12,902 approx.). The judge said that all the punishments will run concurrently.

The life term was awarded for two offences—Section 121 (waging war against the government of India) of IPC and section 17 (raising funds for the terrorist act) of the UAPA.

Malik was convicted last week.

Earlier, Malik, head of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), earlier had earlier pleaded guilty to all the charges including those under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). A special NIA court in Delhi pronounced its verdict on the quantum of punishment in the case.

He told the special court designated for the NIA that he had been following Gandhian principles and non-violent politics in Kashmir after giving up arms in the 1990s.

Mainly Hindu India has been fighting an armed militancy in Kashmir, also claimed by Pakistan, for decades.

"Life imprisonment sentence to the convict, Yasin Malik," Special Judge Parveen Singh said in the court in New Delhi.

Malik`s wife Mushaal Hussein Mullick said the sentencing was illegitimate.

Clashes erupt

In Kashmir’s main city of Srinagar, police fired tear gas and pellets to disperse stone-pelting protesters outside Malik`s residence.

Clashes erupted between supporters of Malik and security forces in Maisuma locality&nbsp;s as parts of the city observed a spontaneous shutdown ahead of a court's verdict.

Scores of people, including women, assembled at Malik's residence at Maisuma, a short distance from Lal Chowk city centre, and raised slogans in support of the separatist leader, the officials said, adding that the protesters took out a protest march around the area.

The protesters tried to move towards Maisuma Chowk and clashed with security forces, they said.

Kashmir's political parties react

Reacting to the conviction, political parties and prominent leaders in Kashmir said that it will further alienate the Kashmiri people.

''Life imprisonment given to Yaseen Malik is unfortunate and a setback to the efforts for peace. We are afraid that this will further compound the uncertainties in the region and will only fuel more alienation and separatist feelings. The NIA court has delivered its verdict but not justice. The triumphalism being displayed by the BJP is bound to prove counterproductive. Meanwhile, we suggest that Yaseen Malik avail all legal opportunities to contest this verdict,'' said spokesperson of People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami.

There are two other cases against Yasin Malik in which the trial is going on. One case pertains to the killing of four Indian Air Force personnel in 1990 in Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) court, which is still at the argument stage. Another case pertains&nbsp;to the kidnapping of Rubiya Syed, daughter of the former home minister and J&amp;K's former CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. &nbsp;

Malik has more than 60 FIR's against his name in various cases.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up across the Kashmir Valley&nbsp;and the mobile internet service has also been snapped in a few areas.

The security forces had a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the Kreeri area of Baramulla district, after which a cordon and search operation was launched. During the search operations, terrorists fired on the forces resulting in a gunbattle.&nbsp;

Former J&amp;K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that it reflects the "sick mindset" of the BJP. She said that Sheikh Abdullah lives in the hearts of the people and erasing his pictures would not get them anything.&nbsp;

"He is a big stalwart and removing his picture wouldn’t matter much. It reflects a sick mindset. He has played a major role in shaping J&amp;K. He merged J&amp;K with India. After 70 years, if his identity is being erased, it wouldn’t matter for his personality. Sheikh Abdullah took a bold decision to join hands with India and rejected Pakistan," said Mehbooba Mufti. &nbsp;

The National Conference Party which was founded by Sheikh Abdullah has reacted and said that it's a ploy by BJP and its allies. The party says It won't make any difference to the name and party.&nbsp;

"Removing the name of the party's founding leader late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah from government honours is a ploy of BJP and its allies and it has not made any difference to the party. It's their misconception that this would change anything or take Sheikh Abdullah away from the hearts and minds of Kashmiri people. The love that Kashmiri People have for Sheikh Abdullah is not going to change," said Imran Nabi Dar, spokesperson NC.&nbsp;

The BJP has welcomed the step and said that Kashmir has had many leaders and Sheikh Abdullah was not the only one. They also say that every building in J&amp;K cannot be called Sher-i-Kashmir/ Sheikh Abdullah.&nbsp;

"We welcome steps like these. Kashmir has had many tall leaders other than Sheikh Abdullah, we can't have every building named after Sheikh Abdullah. We have leaders like Maqbool Sherwani too, we welcome these steps and buildings in Kashmir need to be named after those leaders who have laid their lives for the Country," said Altaf Thakur, the state spokesperson of BJP.&nbsp;

J&K: Police arrests five hybrid terrorists of LeT, 15 pistols recovered

The Indian Army on Friday foiled an infiltration and narcotics smuggling bid in North Kashmir’s Tangdhar sector, where a terrorist was killed while another was injured.

The forces recovered arms and ammunition from the operation site. The two terrorists were trying to infiltrate the Indian territory into the forward area close to the Line of Control.&nbsp;

“The two intruding terrorists were fired upon, leading to the elimination of one terrorist, while grievously injuring the other. However, the injured terrorist managed to flee to the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, taking advantage of the darkness. A thorough search operation launched in the morning resulted in the recovery of the dead terrorist, two AK series rifles, two pistols, two grenades along with 10 packets of narcotics.” said the Indian Army’s Defence PRO, Srinagar.&nbsp;

“Indian army has repeatedly foiled Pakistan’s attempts to disrupt peace and harmony in Kashmir. The Indian Army on Friday foiled an infiltration and narcotics smuggling bid in North Kashmir’s Tangdhar sector, where a terrorist was killed while another was injured. The forces recovered arms and ammunition from the operation site. The two terrorists were trying to infiltrate the Indian territory into the forward area close to the Line of Control. “The two intruding terrorists were fired upon, leading to the elimination of one terrorist, while grievously injuring the other. However, the injured terrorist managed to flee to the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, taking advantage of the darkness. A thorough search operation launched in the morning resulted in the recovery of the dead terrorist, two AK series rifles, two pistols, two grenades along with 10 packets of narcotics.” said the Indian Army’s Defence PRO, Srinagar. “Indian army has repeatedly foiled Pakistan’s attempts to disrupt peace and harmony in Kashmir. Pakistan and Pakistan sponsored OGW nexus uses narco-terrorism to ruin the future of our youth while at the same time channelling funds collected from narco-trade to further their nefarious activities in Kashmir valley,” the statement added.

The missing workers have been identified as Jadav Roy, 23, Gautam Roy, 22, Sudhir Roy, 31, Dipak Roy, 33, Parimal Roy, 38, Shiva Chowhan, 26, Nawaraj Chowdhury, 26, Kushi Ram, 25, Mujaffar, 38, and Israt, 30.

The labourers trapped inside the tunnel were working for Sarla Company, who has the contract for the building of the tunnel.

Despite the government's efforts to pacify the Kashmiri Pandit community living in the Kashmir Valley, the protest by the community members still continues across various districts.

While the government assured the Kashmiri Pandit community that all job and security related issues will be resolved in a week's time, the community demands&nbsp;transfer from the Kashmir region as early as possible, saying that they can't risk their life for jobs.

Jyoti, a Kashmiri Pandit school teacher has been sitting on protests every day since the killing of Rahul Bhat. She urged the government to save their lives and transfer all Kashmiri Pandits working in the Valley.

Jyoti also said that her Muslim colleagues have been helpful and always stood by her despite that she is scared for her life. While talking to Wion, Jyoti cried saying “our lives need to be saved.”&nbsp;

We have already started working on it,'' said divisional commissioner Kashmir P K Pole.&nbsp;

&nbsp;The Kashmiri Pandit community on the other hand have told the government that if they are not shifted outside the Kashmir region, they will resign from their jobs.&nbsp;

Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir Valley along with the Inspector General of Police visited protesting Kashmiri Pandits at Badgam and Anantnag on Tuesday. IG Vijay Kumar asked Kashmiri Pandits not to leave Kashmir Valley as that was the plan of terrorists and their handlers across the border.

The police promised to work on shortcomings in the security grid in the valley. Divisional Commissioner said that within a week's time, all service-related issues will be solved.&nbsp;

The Jammu and Kashmir Police said that plan of the enemy from across the border needs to be foiled.&nbsp;

"You don't have to be scared. The agenda of terrorists and Pakistan is to create fear. We all have to fight it together. Not only the police but we all. We respect the sacrifices you have made. Please don't make statements that will make our enemy stronger. I am giving you assurance that we will work on security grid, and we will finish terrorism," said Vijay Kumar, IG Kashmir.&nbsp;

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir PK Pole also met the protesting members of the Kashmiri Pandit community. He assured the community that all issues will be addressed by the government within a week's time. Jammu Kashmir Police has busted a Lashkar-e-Taiba terror module in Bandipora district of North Kashmir. Police have arrested 7 terrorists and terror associates. Among them is one female terror associate. Six vehicles with arms and ammunition have also been recovered.

"Bandipora Police along security forces busted a terror module of proscribed terror outfit LeT by arresting an active Pakistani trained terrorist, 2 hybrid terrorists and 4 terrorist associates. The Pakistan trained terrorist has been identified as Arif Ajaz Shehri son of Ajaz Ahmad, resident of Nadihal, who had gone to Pakistan on valid visa in year 2018 through Wagah Border and infiltrated back to this side after obtaining illegal arms training and started actively working with proscribed terror outfit LeT in Bandipora. The 2 hybrid terrorists have been identified as Ajaz Ahmad Reshi son of Ab Majeed resident of Rampora and Shariq Ahmad Lone, son of Mohammad Sadiq Lone resident of &nbsp;Gundpora. The arrested terrorists were tasked to carry out attacks on Police/SF and other soft targets particularly in Bandipora district," said Vijay Kumar, IG Kashmir.&nbsp;

The female terror associate has been identified as Sheema Shafi Waza, daughter of Mohammad Shafi resident of Tawheedabad Bagh. Other three terror associates have been identified as Riyaz Ahmad Mir, Ghani Mohammad Waza, Maqsood Ahmad Malik

"Incriminating materials, arms ammunition including 02 Pistols, 03 Pistol Magazine, 25 Pistol rounds, 03 Hand Grenades were recovered from their possession. Besides, 01 Ecco Van bearing registration No. JK15A-1528 which was being used in ferrying of terrorists from Bandipora to Nowgam, Pantha Chowk and Srinagar was also seized. Moreover, 03 Scooties were also seized which were being used for doing reccee of Police, security establishments, monitor movement of security forces and ferrying of terrorists in Bandipora areas. Similarly, 01 Maruti-800 Car and 01 Pulsar Bike were also seized," said Vijay Kumar, IG Kashmir.&nbsp;

The female terror associate has been identified as Sheema Shafi Waza, daughter of Mohammad Shafi resident of Tawheedabad Bagh. Other three terror associates have been identified as Riyaz Ahmad Mir, Ghani Mohammad Waza, Maqsood Ahmad Malik "Incriminating materials, arms ammunition including 02 Pistols, 03 Pistol Magazine, 25 Pistol rounds, 03 Hand Grenades were recovered from their possession. Besides, 01 Ecco Van bearing registration No. JK15A-1528 which was being used in ferrying of terrorists from Bandipora to Nowgam, Pantha Chowk and Srinagar was also seized. Moreover, 03 Scooties were also seized which were being used for doing reccee of Police, security establishments, monitor movement of security forces and ferrying of terrorists in Bandipora areas. Similarly, 01 Maruti-800 Car and 01 Pulsar Bike were also seized," said Vijay Kumar, IG Kashmir.
