Jammu and Kashmir: Three arrested for trafficking arms for terrorists

<p>A picture taken of a kebab seller in Srinagar's Khayam area has won an international food photo contest. Debdatta Chakraborty was awarded the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2022.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chakraborty said&nbsp;that he took the picture in the busy food street of Khayam chowk in Srinagar while the kebab sellers were just setting it up.</p>

<p>Due to the wind in the area, the smoke had filled the whole street with the aroma of kebabs. The picture was titled "Kebabiyana" in which the seller is seen in a cloud of smoke while roasting the seekh kebabs.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chakraborty&nbsp;while speaking to WION&nbsp;said that the photo was&nbsp;taken on Valentine's Day, 14th February 2021. He laughed while revealing the date of the picture.&nbsp;</p>

<p>''It was a very cold evening in the month of February, I went to the food street of Khayam to take some pictures as I have always been interested in taking pictures of food. I think food connects us all. When I entered the area, there was a cold breeze and the kebab sellers had just started making the kebab's and the whole area was filled with smoke and aroma of kebabs. After taking the picture, I did show it to the kebab seller and he was quite happy with it,'' said Debdatta Chakraborty.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chakraborty is based in Kolkata and has been interested in photography since his childhood. He says his father loved photography and that's how he got interested in it as well.</p>

<p>He had submitted the entry for the award in December 2021 and while sharing the award details on his Instagram handle, he said "can't believe it".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jammu Kashmir police said that 39 terrorists belonging to&nbsp;&nbsp;Lashkar-e-Taiba, 15 terrorists of Jaish, six terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen, and two&nbsp;terrorists of Al Badr have been killed this year.</p>

<p>Out of 62 terrorists killed, 15 were foreigners, mostly Pakistanis, and 47 were locals.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier today, two local militants of the Al-Badr outfit were killed in an encounter between the security forces and militants in Mitrigam village of Murran area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Both killed terrorists have been identified as Aijaz Hafiz and Shahid Ayub. 02 AK 47 rifles recovered. Both belong to Al Badr outfit. Both had been involved in a series of attacks on outside labourers in Pulwama in the month of March-April 2022.Operation is over," said Kumar.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jammu Kashmir police informed that a soldier was also injured during initial exchange of fire. The officer has been shifted to the hospital for treatment.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The three arrested terrorist associates were involved in the case pertaining to the killing of a panch Mohammad Yaqoob Dar in March this year, a police spokesman said.</p>

<p>Weapons used in the killing of the Panch, including one pistol, eight pistol rounds, and two grenades, were recovered from their possession.</p>

<p>During the course of investigation, it was learnt that an active terrorist of proscribed terror outfit HM, namely Farooq Ahmad Bhat, son of Ab Gani Bhat, resident of Cheki Desend Yaripora, had received directions from terror handlers based in Pakistan to target the PRI members of Kulgam.</p>

<p>On their directions, he identified the target and gave directions accordingly to the active terrorist, namely Raja Nadeem Rather, son of Ab Rehman Rather, resident of Ashmuji, to execute the terror act with the support of their associates, namely Nasser Ahmad Wani, son of Bashir Ahmad Wani, resident of Srandoo, Adil Manzoor Rather, son of Manzoor Ahmad Rather, resident of Ashmuji, and Majid Mohd Rather, son of Gh Mohd Rather, resident of Malipora Mirbazar.</p>

<p>The directions included conducting a reccee of the Panch's presence, arranging transport and providing logistics to execute the terror act.</p>

<p>Based on specific inputs regarding the movement of two terrorists in a vehicle moving towards Srinagar, joint Motor Vehicle Checking Points (MVCPs) were established by the Police, 29RR, and 2Bn SSB at various spots along the national highway and surrounding by-lanes.</p>

<p>At one such MVCP established at Hanjiveera Bala, a speedy vehicle (Tavera) was signalled to stop. However, as the vehicle stopped, two individuals (driver and co-driver) jumped off the vehicle and fled towards a nearby wooded orchard area.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The alert joint team chased the duo tactfully, and also the escape route cut offs were activated, which succeeded in nabbing them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>They have been identified as Mohd Aqib Mir, Kian Mir, Raqib Mir, son of Mohd Ramzan Mir, resident of Batpora, Sopore, and Danish Ahad Dar, son of Abdul Ahad Dar, resident of Sopore.</p>

<p>“During the searches, two suspects were apprehended and two pistols, and two chinese grenades were recovered from their possession,” the officials said.</p>

<p>The duo were identified as Aqib Mohammad Mir and Danish Ahad Dar, affiliated with Jaish outfit, they said.</p>

<p>A private school 'Dagger Parivar' which was developed jointly by Indrani Balan Foundation, a Pune-based NGO and the Chinar Corps Indian Army, has asked all the female teachers to not wear the hijab in the school.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The private school for specially-abled students in its order states to remove hijab during school hours in order to allow students to have safe communication with the teachers and the staff.&nbsp;</p>

But with the ceasefire we are finally living a normal life. We are extremely happy after the ceasefire between the two countries. It has come as a blessing for us. We are finally breathing normally. We used to live in bunkers earlier and we are hoping that we don't see those days again. We don't have money to invest in making hotels. That's why we have made homestays. They are also providing opportunities for the locals of these areas to generate employment and economy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>''The main thrust is to promote rural tourism and in rural tourism also we have identified offbeat destinations&nbsp;75 in total, out of which 38 from Kashmir and 37 from Jammu. The focus is to highlight these destinations. Border areas like&nbsp;Gurez, Keran Machil and Tangdhar. These are the areas falling under the scheme, the plans have been drawn and we are in consultation with district administration and India army to promote these areas for adventure&nbsp;tourism.</p>

<p>Security forces have dual challenges at hand as the infiltration routes have cleared of the snow, especially in the Neelam Valley of PoK. Sources say that there are three launch pads in the Neelam area and in each launch pad there are 100-150 terrorists.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The whole Line of Control has been put on high alert and forces have increased the vigil along the border. The vigil has been increased in the hills as well as the forest area of the border. &nbsp;The Indian army says that every year the vigil is increased during this period.&nbsp;</p>

Security forces say that Lashkar and Jaish terror outfits have been asked to intensify and carry out attacks. One of the reasons being increase in the anti-terrorist operations of the security forces in the Kashmir valley. Security forces say that these operations have weakened their roots and that's why Pakistan will push more terrorists into the Valley. However, the Indian Army has completely sealed the borders leaving no scope for Infiltration.</p>

In 2021, Security forces killed 184 terrorists. And since January this year, the forces have killed 59 terrorists in 40 encounters. <p>"In the ensuing encounter, 03 terrorists linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Arif Ahmad Hazar @Rehan (Deputy of LeT’s top commander Basit), Abu Huzaifa @ Haqqani (Pakistani terrorist) and Natish Wani @Haider resident of Khanyar, Srinagar," said Vijay Kumar, IG Kashmir.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Jammu and Kashmir Police said that all the killed terrorists were part of groups involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/SFs and civilian atrocities.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The killed terrorist Arif Hazar was a categorized terrorist, active since March 2021 and involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/SFs and civilian atrocities besides, several cases were registered against him in Srinagar city," said Kumar.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He added, "He was involved in killing of Inspector Parvez in front of mosque at Menganwari Nowgam on 22-06-2021, killing of PSI Arshid Ahmad Mir near PS Khanyar on 12-09-2021, killing of police personnel Javaid Ahmad at Saidapora Eidgah on 17-06-2021, killing of mobile shop owner Umar Nazir Bhat at Main Chowk Habba Kadal on 23-06-2021, killing of civilian Mohammad Shafi Dar at SD Colony Batamaloo, killing of civilian Rouf Ahmad Khan outside his house at Mejinpora Safakadal on 22-12-2021. He was also involved in grenade attacks on Police Patrolling Party at Safakadal and joint Naka party at Rainawari."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Police also said that incriminating materials, arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.&nbsp;</p>
