Jammu and Kashmir is fast becoming one of the most favourite destinations of biker groups from across India and the world. Hundreds of bike rallies have been organised by the various departments and groups across the Kashmir valley in the last few months. And for the first time, an international bikers' rally was organised in Srinagar. The rally was flagged off by the tourism department of Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;

A group of 20 bikers from Bahrain, Oman and Germany are on an expedition trip to the Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The bikers started the journey from Ladakh exploring the roads via Leh, Kargil and later Sonamarg in Kashmir region. They went to South Kashmir's Pahalgam as well. The rally was flagged off in Srinagar by secretary of tourism&nbsp;Sarmad Hafeez.&nbsp;

The bikers called Kashmir Valley the "paradise on earth" and said it was one of the best challenging terrains for these bikers.&nbsp;

''Our group has done so many trips. When we were thinking about doing something different, it came to our mind to do Kashmir. Whenever we say Kashmir, we say why and the media portrays&nbsp;it as dangerous, but we wanted to explore it ourselves and honestly we don't regret it at all. The whole group loved it. We loved the landscape, great food and good people. You can't imagine how people helped us. We were given free food and snacks by locals in villages. Our friends from Oman are interested and they will be visiting Kashmir soon as well. Bahrain Bikers was started in 2012 and we have almost 130 members and in this trip we have only 18 of us travelling because everyone couldn't make it. We do a lot of social work as well,'' said Mehdi Hassan, Captain, Bahrain Bikers Group.&nbsp;

The group comprised 20 bikers, including two women, the other bikers were mostly from the Gulf and one was from Germany. The bikers took a ride on the road facing Dal Lake.

''We have come from Bahrain to India. To Leh and Kashmir, I cannot even say anything about Kashmir, it's in our hearts, we have loved Kashmir since our childhood. We never came before but always heard about it. It is for real a paradise on earth. We went to the mountains&nbsp;and saw four seasons in a single day. We recommend and request people from across the world to come to Kashmir. They are lovely people and have amazing food. Kashmir is the best and Kashmir is heaven,'' said Abdul Jasim, a biker from&nbsp;Bahrain.&nbsp;

The bikers expressed joy over the hospitality and welcome they received from people in Srinagar. The female bikers found the place safe and extremely challenging with regard to terrain.&nbsp;

''I have been riding with these bikers for a very long time and it's been amazing. When they said they are going to Kashmir, I said I am signing up as well. It's been fantastic. Even though I am Indian, I will go and promote it. I have seen stunning visuals of the place. I am a part of the group of Biker brothers, and it's been quite safe, and they take care of us very well. Dr Aziz has put together this whole event. He had a crew behind us. We were safe and biker brothers are extremely protective of the lady bikers, so we did not have a problem,'' said Priya Shankar, an Indian biker settled in Bahrain.

Secretary of tourism termed the biking expedition of Bahrain Bikers as a positive sign for Kashmir tourism He said the expedition would open gates for many other such activities as Kashmir has much to offer in adventure tourism.

He also expressed his gratitude to Bahrain Bikers and KCCI for organizing the expedition.

''We have a biker's group from Bahrain, these are international tourists, they have come all the way from the Gulf. There is a biker from Germany, there is a lady biker from Oman and I think it's wonderful that our place is opening up. I think Kashmir has a tremendous potential in biking due to its terrain, climate and places and I am sure it can become the best biking destinations in the world,'' said Hafeez.&nbsp;

The official said that Zoom was showing improvement and responding well to the treatment, however, he suddenly started gasping and soon collapsed. He was operated upon the day he was shot during the encounter.&nbsp;

“The dog went inside the house and attacked the militants. During the operation, it was shot at&nbsp;and sustained critical injuries,”&nbsp;said an Indian Army official.&nbsp;

Zoom,&nbsp;a Malinois or Belgian Shepherd, was born in September 2020. He joined the Army’s 28 Army Dog Unit (ADU) in February 2022 and was in service for eight months.&nbsp;

This order will enable these people to get entry into the ongoing special summary revision of electoral rolls. &nbsp;

Regional Political parties like National Conference, PDP and Democratic Azad Party have opposed this decision. People's democratic party president Mehbooba Mufti accused the central government of orchestrating demographic change in Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;

"Article 370 has been removed from J&amp;K to pave way for these kinds of things and their 'BJP' main goal is to change the demography of Jammu and Kashmir. The 'BJP' is afraid of elections because they know people of Kashmir and Jammu have understood their intentions. They will lose badly here and that's why they are now adding nonlocals to voter lists."

Mehbooba also added that "with the opening of land, jobs and now votes for non-locals, the traditional culture of Kashmiris and Dogras will be ruined. People of Jammu will bear the first blow to Dogra culture, identity, employment &amp; business, BJP's attempts to create religious &amp; regional divisions between Jammu &amp; Kashmir must be thwarted because whether it's a Kashmiri or a Dogra, safeguarding our identity &amp; rights will be possible only if we put up a collective fight.”

The government of Jammu and Kashmir is revising the voter list of the Union territory. New potential voters are being added, while those who have died in the previous years are being taken out. The National Conference has also opposed the move and said that BJP is scared to fight elections in Jammu and Kashmir and that's why they are bringing nonlocal voters.&nbsp;

''The Government is going ahead with its plan to add 25 lakh, non-local voters, in J&amp;K and we continue to oppose this move. BJP is scared of the elections &amp; knows it will lose badly. People of J&amp;K must defeat these conspiracies at the ballot box, '' said National Conference spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar.&nbsp;

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Nabi Azad also opposed this decision and said that it will increase the social tension in the Union territory.&nbsp;

''We have always opposed the non-residents' inclusion in the voter list and it will remain as such. Article 370 gave us this provision that no nonlocal can get the voting rights in Jammu and Kashmir. Giving a certificate is all right but giving them voting rights is not right. There was one more operation in South Kashmir's Shopian district where it is believed&nbsp;that terrorists managed to escape from the site of the operation.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“There was a lull after a gunfight broke out between terrorists and security forces in early hours at Chitragam village in Shopian district of South Kashmir. '' said a Police officer. &nbsp;

India: Two terrorists killed in Baramulla encounter in Kashmir

To safeguard the environment in the Kashmir Valley, Indian Railways is introducing the first electric train for the Kashmir region. The first electric train on the Banihal-Baramulla corridor will start next month. The electric train will ply on the 137 km Banihal-Baramulla corridor in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Indian railways have carried out multiple trials on the Budgam-Baramulla rail link and Banihal-Baramulla rail link as well. The government is planning to start the first electric rail on October 2. The total project cost for the electric rail link has been 324 crores.&nbsp;

''This electric train has two sections, the Budgam-Baramulla rail link trials had taken place earlier this year and now we did the trials for the Budgam-Banihal section on 24,25 and 26th September. We also got the security/safety inspection done by the principal chief electrical engineer, Northern Railways. The diesel locomotives are being phased out across the country and most trains will run on electricity. The running time will also be reduced, as its speed is more than diesel trains. It's the mission of the Government of India to make railways pollution free. There will be zero pollution with the introduction of these electric trains. And especially with regard to Kashmir valley, it's a great thing,'' said Abid Amin Shah, additional general manager, IRCON.

Since the operational costs of the railways will come down, the passengers will also get benefitted. The electric trains will be faster and will save the passengers a lot of time.&nbsp;

To keep a close eye on the anti-social elements and terror activities in Srinagar city, Jammu Kashmir Police has started using these high-tech drones to keep a vigil 24/7.&nbsp;

"Aerial surveillance is going on in suspected localities of Srinagar looking for anti-social elements, criminals, terrorists, OGWs etc., by using modern drones with high-resolution cameras. These may not be visible from ground but be assured that life, property of citizens will be safeguarded," said Srinagar Police in a Tweet.&nbsp;

Kashmir Valley has witnessed record-breaking tourist arrivals this year. Government reports say more than 2 million tourists visited the valley in the eight months of 2022. It's after decades that Kashmir is once again attracting millions of tourists and tourism stakeholders are calling it the luckiest year ever.

It's a collective effort and I hope it will continue for the coming days as well. 2022 has been a bumper year with regard to tourism. We are hoping the ski lift in Sonamarg will be completed within days and this time Sonamarg will be opened for skiing. We will be keeping it open this winter and promote it as a winter destination. Pahalgam would be preparing for winter as well. We are also planning for Doodhpathri as a winter destination as well. We are hoping the coming winter will see a lot of footfalls,'' said Fazl ul Haseeb, Director of Tourism, Kashmir.

The high arrivals of tourists to the valley have revived the tourism industry of Kashmir which was badly hit due to various reasons in the last few years. This is also the first time that I was receiving 200-300 calls from tourists from across the country every day. They wanted hotels, houseboats, taxi's and we were completely booked. Everything was booked and even this time people had to wait in a queue to get a shikara. We are expecting the number to go further up as the winter approaches. We are already planning for Christmas and New Year's. The agents think that it's been quite a lucky year and thanks to the administration for all the help,'' said Irshad Hazari, Director, Euphoria Travel Services.

The tourism industry is hoping that the numbers will go further up as the Fall season and winter is close. Government is introducing some new ski resorts in the valley as well. The hotel industry is working on creating more infrastructure and facilities for the huge tourist inflow.

Former Chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti warned the central government of dire consequences if the fruit-laden trucks on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway are halted. The fruit growers of the valley have been protesting against the halting of the trucks on the National Highway. Today Mehbooba Mufti joined the protesting fruit growers in the Aglar area of Shopian in South Kashmir.

The farmers were on a sit-in protest for the third consecutive day against the halting of their fruit-laden trucks on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, which has led to huge losses for the farmers.

&nbsp;"You (BJP govt) have turned Kashmir into an open prison, destroying our economy. I am warning the administration that if they don’t immediately open the roads for trucks, I along with our workers will sit on a protest and block the National Highway,'' said Mehbooba Mufti.&nbsp;

Mehbooba also said that lakhs of people in Kashmir are dependent on the apple industry and the administration needs to know that. ''The farmers have taken loans and have to repay the same with interest, who is going to compensate the losses of these fruit growers,'' she added.&nbsp;

The fruit growers association has claimed that they have incurred losses of millions due to the halting of these trucks on the National Highway. Mehbooba said that the patience of the Kashmiri people is being tested and if this is not stopped, she will come out on the road with the farmers.&nbsp;

Kashmir region is witnessing a sharp rise in the cases of suicides, suicide attempts and taking extreme steps. A study done recently by one of the government agencies has reported that Post covid around 127 people died by committing suicide in the valley.&nbsp;

The report says more than 365 suicide attempts have been reported in the Kashmir region since Feb 2021. The data prepared by the State Disaster Response Force reveals that 365 attempts of suicide were recorded as 127 persons died after committing suicide, and 238 survived after taking extreme steps.&nbsp;

''We started a mental health helpline called 'Sukoon', where we did a research in the valley where we collected data of how many suicide cases were reported in the Valley, the data which we have with us suggests that since Feb 2021 to June 2022, there have been 365 suicide attempts by people during this period, 127 people died due to suicide and 238 survived these attempts. There were 34 suicide attempts reported in North Kashmir's Bandipora. In South Kashmir's Shopian district 19 such attempts were reported while 15 were reported in Pulwama. District Kulgam reported 25 suicide attempts and Srinagar city reported 17.&nbsp;

The psychologists in the valley say Post covid stress triggered by various issues like financial, relationship issues and isolation led to taking these extreme steps. &nbsp;The doctors feel the awareness among the youngsters needs to be increased across the Kashmir Valley. The doctors also say that there is a suicide contagion that needs to be prevented.&nbsp;

''There is a concept of suicide contagion, research suggests that if one person dies of suicide it affects 135 people around him. And out of those 135 people, 60 per cent are more vulnerable to thoughts of suicide. That's how we see the suicide contagion spread. Sometimes when it is localised to one particular area, we get more reported cases because of the same phenomena. It is also about treatment seeking, Srinagar has much more treatment seeking options than other places and sometimes it can be because of the lack of treatment options and definitely due to the contagion which spreads. '' said Dr Zoya Mir, Clinical Psychologist, Government of Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;

The SDRF is going to submit the report to the Chief Secretary's office in Jammu and Kashmir. And the government is expected to come out with a strategy to tackle the issue.&nbsp;

''We started a mental health helpline called 'Sukoon', where we did a research in the valley where we collected data of how many suicide cases were reported in the Valley, the data which we have with us suggests that since Feb 2021 to June 2022, there have been 365 suicide attempts by people during this period, 127 people died due to suicide and 238 survived these attempts.
