The central government has been pushing to make Jammu and Kashmir a sports hub of the country.&nbsp;

To keep youngsters away from anti-national activities, secessionist mindset and drug abuse, a massive change in the sports infrastructure is being carried out across Jammu and Kashmir. Many new stadiums of international level have been thrown open with 1.75 million youngsters expected to participate in sports activities this year.&nbsp;

"Last year around 1.7 million youngsters participated in the sports activities in Jammu and Kashmir, and this was despite the Covid pandemic. It's a great achievement for the sports council and sports department. It's the hard work of all the staff and youth. The target is that around 3.5 million or more youngsters should take part in the sports activities this year. Jammu and Kashmir will write a new history in sports. The initiative by the sports council will reach the remotest areas of the UT," said Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;

Sportspersons from the Kashmir Division have shown great performance in the national games in various sports. Hundreds of Medals have been brought by these young athletes in national and international tournaments. And now the government plans to take these sports activities to every corner of the union territory. Under the Back to Villages programme, the sports council has been arranging for at least one sporting activity for the youth in every panchayat of the union territory.&nbsp;

"There has been a lot of enhancement in sports. In the last year, as LG said, 1.75 million youngsters have taken part in various sports activities. The target has been achieved by the sports council. Now, a target of 3.5 million has been given and we will for sure surpass this target. We will provide a platform for the youth. There will be a sport played in every panchayat in Jammu and Kashmir," said Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary, Youth Service and Sports.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir also received a special package from the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A 200-crore package has been given to the union territory. Special sports festivals are being organised in every district of Union territory to look for talent in these smaller areas and train them to become professional athletes.&nbsp;

For the first time in the last 33 years, a 20km cycle rally was organised by BSF on the streets of Srinagar city. BSF soldiers early morning today rode cycles holding tri colour across Srinagar city.

It’s for the first time that soldiers from BSF were riding cycles in huge numbers on the Srinagar streets and that too without a weapon. The rally was organised to mark the birth anniversary of Shri Vallabhbhai Patel celebrated as National Unity Day.

“Our motive for the rally is to send across a message of unity among all. I want to tell everyone that we need to live with utmost unity. It was exciting to ride cycles on the roads of Srinagar and kids were waving at us and it was a nice feeling, said Anuj, BSF Soldier.&nbsp;

The female soldiers of the BSF also participated in the rally.&nbsp;

The Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh is on a visit to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. While addressing the Infantry Day function in Srinagar, Rajnath Singh said that people of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir are subjected to human rights violations and Pakistan has to pay a price for it. The defence minister said that the Indian government is committed to implementing the 1994 resolution passed in the Parliament about retrieving the part of Kashmir “under illegal occupation of Pakistan.”

''Our country is watching and feeling the pain of the citizens of PoK, where Pakistan is unleashing torture and harassment. Very soon there will be a rebellion in the PoK by the citizens against the atrocities. One terrorist was killed near the Line of Control in North Kashmir’s Kupwara sector Tuesday night. Indian Army along with Jammu Kashmir Police foiled a major infiltration attempt by terrorists along the LOC in Tangdhar Sector on the night of 25/26 October.

According to Indian army, one foreign terrorist belonging to PoK was killed during the operation. Arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the operation site. Security forces had received an input regarding infiltration of a group of LeT terrorists through Forward Sudpura in Karnah Tehsil of Kupwara District, after which a joint operation by security forces was launched.&nbsp;

“Alert troops on anti-infiltration grid intercepted two terrorists trying to infiltrate into own side in the forward area close to the Line of Control. At around 1:45 AM on 26 Oct 22, the infiltrating terrorists were fired upon, leading to elimination of one terrorist," said Col Emron Musavi , PRO (Defence) Srinagar, Indian Army.&nbsp;

“However, taking advantage of darkness the other terrorist managed to flee to PoJK side. A search operation was launched in the morning resulting in recovery of one AK series rifle, two pistols and large quantity of ammunition and war like stores. As per agencies, the eliminated terrorist has been identified as Mohammed Shakur, s/o Yakub, aged 32 years belonging to Syedpura in PoJK,"&nbsp;added Col Emron Musavi.

Before the arrival of winter in Kashmir region, the number of infiltrations attempts on the Line of Control increase. The routes generally close due to snowfall in the month of November till March making it difficult for terrorists to cross over. The Line of Control has been put on alert and security has been beefed up.&nbsp;

Mehbooba Mufti takes a dig at the centre while congratulating Rishi Sunak, BJP hits back

With the Diwali festival around the corner, a Kashmiri Muslim family is busy making clay&nbsp; lamps for several weeks. Over 15,000 clay lamps have been made and dispatched so far with many being made even now. Omar Kumar and his whole family has been in the business of pottery for decades but this year, they have made Diwali diya's (lamps) in huge numbers for the first time.&nbsp;

Diwali will be celebrated across India on October 24, and the Kumar family has been tirelessly working day and night to make sure the thousands of Diwali lamps reach their destinations. Omar has worked with his family to save the traditional glazed pottery art of Kashmir valley.&nbsp;

''We got big orders this year, we had around 800 pieces ordered last year and this year it's more than 15,000. And still, orders are pouring in. We can't make as much as the orders have come. We have dispatched over 15,000 Diwali lamps so far. We have sent it to Kulgam from where they are being sent across India. We don't differentiate between Hindus and Muslims, we all live together happily, and we also buy things from other communities. We made good money this Diwali,'' said potter Omar Kumar.&nbsp;

Omar has distributed hundreds of Diwali lamps for free within the Hindu community in his locality. Omar says that buying local is how young entrepreneurs in the country can be helped. After receiving the order, he believes it's a push to the 'Make in India' initiative.&nbsp;

Kashmir has always set an example of brotherhood in the community and this Muslim family making Diwali diyas for the festival has only strengthened the idea once more.

Omar Kumar and his whole family has been in the business of pottery for decades but this year, they have made Diwali diya's (lamps) in huge numbers for the first time. Diwali will be celebrated across India on October 24, and the Kumar family has been tirelessly working day and night to make sure the thousands of Diwali lamps reach their destinations. Omar has worked with his family to save the traditional glazed pottery art of Kashmir valley. ''We got big orders this year, we had around 800 pieces ordered last year and this year it's more than 15,000. And still, orders are pouring in. We can't make as much as the orders have come. We have dispatched over 15,000 Diwali lamps so far. We have sent it to Kulgam from where they are being sent across India. We don't differentiate between Hindus and Muslims, we all live together happily, and we also buy things from other communities. We made good money this Diwali,'' said potter Omar Kumar. Omar has distributed hundreds of Diwali lamps for free within the Hindu community in his locality. Omar says that buying local is how young entrepreneurs in the country can be helped. After receiving the order, he believes it's a push to the 'Make in India' initiative. Hitting out at the political parties without naming any, the Lieutenant Governor said that those trying to justify the innocent killings for their personal gains, were actually challenging the country’s sovereignty and integrity. "I don’t hesitate to state here that, if needed, such people will face action as per the law," Sinha said.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police said that 1,604 policemen have attained martyrdom in the last 30 years while fighting terrorism in the Valley.&nbsp;

The upper reaches of the Kashmir Valley witnessed snowfall, leading to a drop in temperature across the region. The Met department has predicted that it's likely to snow and rain in most of the areas till today, and that weather will improve from tomorrow onwards.&nbsp;

The fresh snowfall in the region has led to the closure of several roads, including Sadhna Top, connecting the border town of Tangdhar with other far-flung areas. The road to Gurez has also been shut down due to bad weather.&nbsp;

The temperature at Gulmarg was recorded at minus 2.0 °C, which is the lowest of the season. Meanwhile, in the Rajouri area of the Jammu and Kashmir region, 50 sheep and goats were killed during a lightning thunderstorm in the area. One person was injured in the incident as well.&nbsp;

According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police official, terrorists lobbed a grenade at the structure in which these labourers were living. And a massive search operation was launched by the security forces after the attack. One local Lashkar terrorist was arrested by forces. Police said he was the one who lobbed the grenade at the deceased civilians.&nbsp;

"Two arrests have been made so far. Hybrid terrorist of proscribed terror outfit LeT Imran Bashir Ganie of Harmen Shopian who lobbed grenade arrested by Shopian police. Further investigation and raids are going on," said Vijay Kumar, ADGP, &nbsp;Kashmir Police.&nbsp;

A massive search operation across the Shopian district has been launched after the attack. So far, 24 civilians have been killed in 2022.

Terrorists shot dead a Kashmiri Pandit in the Choudary Gund area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday. The deceased Kashmiri Pandit has been identified as Pooran Krishan Bhat, son of Tarak Nath Bhat.&nbsp;

Terrorists shot Bhat when he was present in the lawn of his house.&nbsp;He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.&nbsp;

“Terrorists fired upon a civilian (minority) Shri Puran Krishan Bhat while he was on way to orchard in Chowdary Gund Shopian. He was immediately shifted to hospital where he succumbed. Area cordoned off. Search in progress,” said Vijay Kumar, ADGP, Kashmir Police.&nbsp;

Pooran Krishan Bhat (42) is survived by his wife Sweety and two children.&nbsp;

“Attack on Puran Krishan Bhat by terrorists in Shopian is a dastardly act of cowardice. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. I assure the people that the perpetrators and those aiding and abetting terrorists will be severely punished," tweeted Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha.

The area has been cordoned off by security forces and a search for the attackers has been started. Jammu and Kashmir Police DIG Sujit Kumar visited the terror incident spot.

"The unfortunate incident has happened here.&nbsp; The terror group 'Kashmir freedom fighters' has taken responsibility for the attack. We are investigating the matter and have launched massive manhunt to nab the terrorists," said DIG Kumar.&nbsp;

"As per eyewitness, one terrorist was seen attacking the Kashmiri Pandit Pooran Kishan Bhat but there is a possibility that there could be some more terrorists involved in the attack," he added.&nbsp;

On being asked about the security lapse, DIG admitted that the terrorists managed to attack despite a security guard in place and an army camp nearby. The DIG added that they would look at all the angles and take action if any dereliction of duty was found.

Many condemned the attack, including the Grand Mufti of Kashmir, Mufti Nasir ul lslam.

''The killing of Kashmiri Pandit is deplorable. Such acts cannot be accepted and will disturb the peace and harmony of Kashmir. The killing of any innocent human is killing all humanity. I stand behind the family of the deceased and express my sympathy with them,' said Mufti Nasir ul lslam.&nbsp;

A meeting called by the member parties of the PAGD said that there is a concern about the deteriorating situation of Kashmir as well as the Jammu region.&nbsp;

"They took away the constitutional right of Article 370 and now slowly they are choking the other ways of survival for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Police stations and jails are full of innocent people, and they are taking away the civil liberties, freedom of press, freedom of speech," said Y Tarigami, the spokesperson of PAGD while he was joined by PAGD chief Dr Farooq Abdullah, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and others.

"Where are the 50,000 jobs promised by the government? Situation is grim as the number of unemployed youths is swelling. I visited Marwah, Dachan in Jammu region and found that the sub-district hospital has no doctor at all," said Abdullah.&nbsp;

The parties also discussed the recent order by the Jammu administration about giving voting rights to anyone who has lived in the Union territory for over a year. The order was withdrawn the next day by the administration.&nbsp;

"Giving voting rights is the prerogative of the Election Commission, how come the government was issuing orders? On the next day of the order, the media is told that the order stands withdrawn. Isn’t this a mockery of democracy," said Tarigami.&nbsp;

The PAGD also stated that it's time for all Jammu and Kashmir parties to stand together and raise a collective voice against the present central government.&nbsp;
