What happened with Zomato?

As reported extensively by WION, at the time of issuing the Initial Public Offering (IPO) last year, Zomato was pegged at $13.3 billion in valuation. It is important to note that the food major’s valuation was a mere $3.5 billion, a year prior, and that too after acquiring Uber Eats and its India services.

The significant increase in the valuation had surprised many and aspersions were cast on whether Zomato had overplayed its hand.

When the IPO was released, it was 35 times oversubscribed, suggesting that the company knew what it was doing. At the time, the company was listed with an issue price of Rs 76, per stock.&nbsp;

The stock price rose to an all-time high of Rs 169.10 in November and that was the last time the company's stock touched such heights.&nbsp;&nbsp;

At the year-end, the stock price stood at Rs 137.45 and since then, it has continued to tumble. From the highs of $13.3 billion in valuation, the current market valuation of Zomato stands at $5.3 billion, as of May, which is a decline of over 60 per cent.&nbsp;

According to Uber, it has reported a positive quarterly cash flow for the first time in its history. However, Zomato is continuing to bleed it and thus the decision to exit the market. If it happens, it could be a significant blow to Zomato while Uber is expected to make anywhere between two to three times its original deal.&nbsp;

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that India will extend an additional $100 million line of credit for the island nation of Maldives. The announcement was made after PM Modi held talks with&nbsp;Maldives President&nbsp;Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who is on a four-day visit to India with the focus on inaugurating&nbsp;Maldives' biggest infrastructure project, the Greater Male Connectivity Project ​(GMCP).&nbsp;

Announcing the line of credit, PM Modi stated that India will always be the first responder for the Maldives.&nbsp;

"We have decided to provide an additional line of credit of USD 100 million to the Maldives so that all projects can be completed in a timely manner," said PM Modi.&nbsp;

Moreover, the two countries also signed six agreements to boost cooperation in areas such as affordable housing, disaster management and cyber security.&nbsp;

The&nbsp;Greater Male Connectivity Project

As reported by WION,&nbsp;the Indian government under PM Modi is already&nbsp;supporting 45 projects in the country with grant assistance of $16.88 million or 260 million Maldivian rufiyaas. Of these 45 projects, 17 have been completed and inaugurated already.

As for GMCP, the project&nbsp;has been supported by New Delhi from its inception. A&nbsp;grant of $100 million and a $400 million line of credit, totalling $500 million was extended for the project.&nbsp;

The project was first discussed during External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar's visit to the country in September 2019. The agreement for the project was signed between AFCONS and Maldives government last year and the mega infrastructure is expected to be completed within two years.

Under the project, a 6.74 kilometres long bridge and causeway link will be built that will connect the national capital Male with three adjoining islands viz. Villingli, Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi.

India extends another $100 million line of credit to Maldives

It is often said that reality is stranger than fiction. An incident from the Indian&nbsp;state of Uttar Pradesh may just prove the above adage even more accurately. Reportedly, a man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the murder of his wife. However, as it turns out, the wife was alive and living at her sister’s home.&nbsp;

The victim named Kandhai got married to Ramvati in 2006. Both hailed from the same village named Jamapur. However, on one fine spring day in February 2009, Ramvati, mysteriously went missing as Kandhai and other family members&nbsp;searched for her.

Later, as it happens in most such cases, suspicion was cast on Kandhai, the husband. The&nbsp;family members of Ramvati lodged a complaint against him for kidnapping and murder. Over the course of&nbsp;next eight years,&nbsp;Kandhai found himself in the middle of a legal battle, for a crime&nbsp;he didn’t commit.

The court in 2017 even sentenced him to a prison term of 10 years. Thereafter, Kandhai moved the High court and managed to get bail after serving six years in prison.

However, the tag of a kidnapper and murderer still lay with Kandhai. But all changed last week on Saturday when one of&nbsp;Kandhai’s relatives spotted his wife Ramvati at her sister and brother-in-law’s home.&nbsp;

“Kandhai later informed his other relatives who reached the spot, only to be joined by the entire village population outside the residence of Ramvati’s brother-in-law to witness the impossible,” the police stated.

What Kandhai and the entire village saw there, left them astonished. Ramvati was alive and present before them in flesh and blood. A police team, including women officers, led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Ramgaon, Sanjay Singh arrived at the spot and confirmed the ‘discovery’.
