The Canadian was a bit too defensive in the first period but launched a good attack at the start of the second period to reduce the margin to 2-4. But Punia, a world no 1 in his division, was up to the task and effected two one-leg takedowns to widen the margin again. He got another point when he pushed his opponent out of the bout area with another one-leg hold.

The Chinese minister added that Bejing will communicate closely with Ankara to chalk out an itinerary for the visit. Meanwhile,&nbsp;Cavusoglu added that Turkey was firmly following the one-China policy not only on the Taiwan question but also on issues concerning Xinjiang.

A time when Erdogan batted for the Uyghurs

It is pertinent to note that there was a time when Turkish President&nbsp;Recep Tayyip Erdogan was an outspoken activist for the rights of the Uyghur Muslims. While the world had barely known about the plight of the Muslim community, Erdogan in 2009 had dubbed it a 'genocide'.

Furthermore, the civil rights societies blamed&nbsp;Bachelet for being too soft on the Chinese.

American candy company Mars Wrigley, maker of the iconic Snickers chocolate candy bar has been forced to apologise to China after running a product launch advertisement where it referred to Taiwan as a separate country.

Reportedly, in the ad, which was a collaboration with popular Korean pop band BTS, Snickers stated that the new limited edition chocolate bar will only be available in South Korea, Malaysia and Taiwan.&nbsp;

Announcing the deal, Amazon’s hardware devices chief Dave Limp said in a statement, “Over many years, the iRobot team has proven its ability to reinvent how people clean with products that are incredibly practical and inventive — from cleaning when and where customers want while avoiding common obstacles in the home, to automatically emptying the collection bin,”&nbsp;

However, Amazon's belief in Roomba can be gauged by the fact that despite iRobot suffering a 30 per cent fall in its second-quarter revenue, the company is willing to acquire it.&nbsp;

Amazon's acquisition comes at a time when the company's sales figure reached $121 billion in the quarter while its cloud-computing platform Amazon Web Services managed to rake in $5.7 billion in revenue, registering a 33 per cent growth.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The numbers are particularly impressive for the Jeff Bezos company as online sales shrank by 4 per cent, declining for the second quarter in a row.&nbsp;

Mahathir Mohamad, the controversial former Malaysian Prime Minister is looking to stage a comeback into the top political echelons of the Southeast Asian country. Reportedly, 97-year-old Mahathir, eyeing the Prime Minister's seat for the third time has launched a new Malay movement which attempts to use the plank of nationalism to drive the votes.

According to local media reports, the movement named Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA), also called the motherland movement, aims to challenge the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), which currently leads the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition in Malaysia.&nbsp;

The coalition consists of four major political parties of Malaysia viz. Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra), Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang), Parti Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa) and National Indian Muslim Alliance Party (Iman).

The coalition is expected to fight on 120 seats, of which the majority will be Malay-dominated seats. 
 
Stating that majority of the poor populace in Malaysia was Malays, Mahathir added, “This movement aims to solve the problems faced by the Malays. It is not about taking away anything from the non-Malays but rather to help Malays get their share.”&nbsp;

It is pertinent to note that the current ruling coalition was beaten by Mahathir's Pakatan Harapan (Pact of Hope) coalition in 2018, thus several experts have opined that ruling Mahathir out can be a dangerous gamble.&nbsp;

However, it is also imperative to note that the next two years after Mahathir was elected, were as chaotic as they come. Embroiled in numerous scandals, scams and infighting, in addition to antagonising countries like India with rancid speeches and openly endorsing radical views, Mahathir was dumped by his own party in 2020.

A long, arduous four-year legal battle has come to an end for the Nadesalingam family in Australia. Reportedly, the family has been granted permanent residency, ending a community-wide campaign that protested against their deportation. Andrew Giles, the&nbsp;federal immigration minister became their guardian angel by intervening and ensuring that the family received their visas.&nbsp;

"This government made a commitment before the election that, if elected, we would allow the family to return to Biloela and resolve the family's immigration status," said Giles.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Priya Nadaraja, elated at the decision remarked, "Now I know my daughters will get to grow up safely in Australia. Now my husband and I can live without fear."

The Genesis

Priya Nadaraja, Nades Murugappan and their daughters&nbsp;Kopika and Tharnicaa had been living in an&nbsp;immigration detention centre after Priya's visa expired, back in 2018. The couple's request for being included in the mainstream with the 'refugee' status was turned down by the government, repeatedly.&nbsp;

It is pertinent to note that Priya and her husband arrived in the down under country after fleeing Sri Lanka on refugee boats. This was nearly a decade ago. The couple soon met each other, got married and had two kids.

But soon trouble came their way as the Australian government detained them, citing they did not have any legal rights to stay in Australia. First transferred to an immigration detention centre in Melbourne, the family was later shifted to a detention centre on Christmas Island, where they spent the majority of the last two years, fighting courtroom immigration battles.&nbsp;

However, after the government&nbsp;changed and labour Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his administration came to power, good news came for the&nbsp;Nadesalingam family.

In June, the family was granted a bridging visa and allowed in Biloela, a town in Queensland, from where they were detained four years back by the border force agents in a 5 AM raid.&nbsp;

The Nadesalingam family has now become the face of fighting Australia's tough asylum-seeking policies. However,&nbsp;Giles made it clear it might have been a one-off case as&nbsp;those entering Australia illegally through unauthorised vessels will be turned away.&nbsp;

"For anyone who attempts to migrate via an unauthorised boat to Australia – you will be caught, returned or sent to a regional processing country.&nbsp;"This has not changed since the last government. We are not considering changing this policy." said Giles.&nbsp;

For the quarter ending June, Toyota's operating profit dropped down to $4.3 billion from $7.45 billion in the same period last year. The fall in valuation was worse than expected, according to industry experts who expected a drop of around 15 per cent.

It is quite remarkable that a sector that was earlier bleeding due to lack of demand at the peak of the pandemic, is now troubled by the lack of supplies. Toyota informed that the lack of semiconductor supplies was the paramount reason for its dismal performance.

Such has been the snarl in procuring semiconductors that Toyota, the world's biggest automaker by sales&nbsp;has had to cut its monthly production targets three times in the quarter just gone by, falling behind 10 per cent in its goals.&nbsp;

Moreover, Toyota attributed the drop in profits to a rise in materials costs which is expected to increase 17 per cent YoY, with steel and aluminium price rise, expected to drive the cost of the cars as well.&nbsp;

The Chinese state media further stated, "During this actual combat exercises, six major areas around the island were selected and during this period all ships and aircraft should not enter the relevant sea areas and airspace.” In response to the Chinese threat, Taiwan has put its military on alert and already staged multiple civil defence drills. Meanwhile, the USA has moved its several naval assets in and around the conflict zone. "The Ministry of National Defence stresses that it will uphold the principle of preparing for war without seeking war, and with an attitude of not escalating conflict and causing disputes." the defence ministry of Taiwan noted in a statement. Some media reports have stated that Chine fired several small live rockets towards the Taiwnese side.
