They also carved out the first chance of the game when Daichi Kamada broke clear but could not beat Real keeper Thibaut Courtois with his low drive in the 14th minute. 
 
Real responded three minutes later but Vinicius Jr's effort was cleared on the line by Tuta. Eintracht keeper Kevin Trapp did well to palm another Vinicius Jr effort wide. 
 
The keeper, however, misjudged a cross in the 37th and was well out of position when Casemiro headed on for Alaba and the Austrian tapped in from close range for the lead. 
 
Real stayed in control after the break, forcing another good save from Trapp in the 55th, knocking away a deflected Vinicius Jr shot before Casemiro rattled the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the box two minutes later. 
 
The pressure eventually paid off when Vinicius Jr combined with Benzema, the pair scored a combined 111 club goals last season&nbsp;and the French forward slotted in to kill off any lingering Eintracht hopes of a first-ever Super Cup title. The win brought Real level with AC Milan and Barcelona who have also five Super Cup wins.

An Iranian military operative named Shahram Poursafi alias Mehdi Rezayi has been charged by the US Department of Justice for plotting to assassinate&nbsp;John Bolton, the national security advisor to&nbsp;former Republican President Donald Trump.

Reportedly,&nbsp;Poursafi, a member of&nbsp;the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had offered $300,000 to an individual in the US to kill Bolton. The money was offered in the backdrop of the US military conducting an airstrike in 2020 which killed General Qasem Soleimani, Iran's top military commander at the time.&nbsp;

According to court documents, in October 2021, Poursafi contacted an unidentified US individual, wanting to commission photographs of Bolton. The said individual referred&nbsp;Poursafi to another contact who was then asked to execute the task of killing the top US leader.&nbsp;

After the indictment, Bolton released a statement saying, “While much cannot be said publicly right now, one point is indisputable: Iran’s rulers are liars, terrorists, and enemies of the United States."

If&nbsp;Poursafi is caught and convicted of the murder-for-hire plot, he could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

The Consumer Price Index report released on the same day revealed that the rate of inflation was down&nbsp;0.6 per cent from June's 9.1 per cent but it certainly did not mean that inflation had reached the magical 'zero' per cent mark.

The inflation rate for the month of July stood at 8.5 per cent, majorly due to a drop in fuel prices. However, if compared to year-on-year numbers, the inflation rate was still touching a 40-year record high and consumers were bearing the brunt of it.&nbsp;

“The all items less food and energy index rose 5.9 per cent over the last 12 months.&nbsp;The energy index increased 32.9 per cent for the 12 months ending July, a smaller increase than the 41.6 per cent increase for the period ending June. The food index increased 10.9 per cent over the last year, the largest 12-month increase since the period ending May 1979.” the official Consumer Price Index report read.&nbsp;

Republicans have a field day&nbsp;

As soon as Biden's comments went viral, the Republican lawmakers started taking potshots at the President and his 'torturous' math.

Republican leader Virginia Foxx from North Carolina stated, “The Biden Administration has a tortured relationship with math."

Meanwhile, Ted Cruz took to Twitter to state, "Ridiculous BS from the White House. There’s 8.5% inflation and basically everything anyone ever buys went up in price. This is just cruel gaslighting from the Biden admin."

As reported by WION,&nbsp;US has been facing its worst bout of economic slowdown in recent times. The economy has contracted for two successive quarters which suggests that a recession has set in place.&nbsp;A recent Bloomberg survey stated that there was a 40 per cent chance that the country will slip&nbsp;into a recession by next year.

According to the survey, the island nation of Sri Lanka is at the precipice of recession. There is an 85 per cent probability that Sri Lanka slips into recession, as early as next year. The sharp tumble in fortunes is a marked departure from the 33 per cent chance recorded last year. Contrary to Sri Lanka, its neighbouring country of India has a zero probability of facing a severe economic slump, according to the economists involved in the research. Despite the Indian rupee touching a historical low against the US dollar, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been able to keep the economy in good shape by increasing lending rates or repo rates by 90 basis points cumulatively in the various monetary meetings. What about US? However, the US has not fared well in the survey as economists believe that there is a 40 per cent chance of the country slipping into a recession by next year. It is pertinent to note that the inflation rate in the US increased by a whopping 8.6 per cent in May 2022, reaching a forty-year high. The study co-authored by researchers from the United States, China, Germany, Japan, South Korea and Japan is the first of its kind to gauge the impact of hotter nights and increased mortality risk. Reportedly, for the study, the researchers studied deaths due to extreme heat conditions in 28 cities in China, South Korea and Japan spread over a period of 35 years from 1980 to 2015. Afterwards, the numbers were fed into two climate change modelling scenarios. The results of the model illustrated that between 2016 and 2100, the risk of deaths due to excessively hot nights may increase by 60 per cent. "In our study, we found that the occurrences of hot night excess (HNE) are projected to occur more rapidly than the daily mean temperature changes. The frequency and mean intensity of hot nights would increase more than 30 per cent and 60 per cent by the 2100s, respectively, compared with less than 20 per cent increase for the daily mean temperature." a scientist at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, associated with the study remarked. Scientists are of the view that increased night temperatures or ambient heat may interrupt an individual's physiology of sleep. Lack of sleep directly leads to problems such as immune system damage, cardiovascular disease and several other mental health conditions. The magnitude of achievement can be gauged by the fact that the previous attendance record for Men's Euro game was established in 1964. Back then, 79,115 fans attended the match at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid when Spain took on the erstwhile Soviet Union.&nbsp;

Moreover, in the last year's men's edition where England also reached the final against Italy, 67,000 people were in attendance. However, at the time, the capacity was reduced due to Covid-19 restrictions.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the previous record for a women's Euro match was established earlier in the tournament when England faced Austria. At the time, 68,871 fans had thronged Old Trafford to watch the match.

Overall, the 2022 edition dwarfed its previous iterations as the total attendance of the tournament stood at 574,875. This is more than double the figure of the previous record of 240,055, established at the 2017 Euro's held in the Netherlands.&nbsp;

What happened in the final?

The final was an evenly contested game for the major part. While England drew the first blood in the 61st minute, courtesy of a delightful chip from&nbsp;Toone. However, Germany soon intensified the attack and equalised in the 79th minute, through a clever finish from&nbsp;Magull.

Thereon, it was a bit of a scuffle between the two teams as tired bodies toiled on the pitch during extra time. However, just when it looked like the final would head for a penalty shootout, Kelly stabbed one to the back of the net after receiving a curling corner kick.

The report came out on Tuesday and the central bank promptly discarded the findings. However, what's peculiar is that the major legwork for the report was done by the Federal Reserve itself in 2015.&nbsp;

In 2015, the Federal Reserve had run a counterintelligence operation and found 13 moles or 'persons of interest', whose relations with the Chinese government raised suspicions.

One of the former Fed employees highlighted in the report and identified as "Z" had questionable ties to a talent recruitment program in China. It is worth noting that China runs a '1000 talents programme', started in 2008 that attempts to steal Intellectual Property (IP) and other advanced technologies from foreign nations by poaching their experts.&nbsp;

The report by the GOP lawmakers merely builds upon the Federal Reserve report. By disputing the new findings, the central bank is contradicting itself and its findings from seven years ago.&nbsp;

China has infiltrated the US Federal Reserve for over a decade: GOP lawmakers allege in report

Russian oil giant Transneft on Tuesday made a sensational claim that Ukraine had suspended Russian oil pipeline flows to countries in central Europe citing payment issues.

Reportedly, the southern Druzhba pipeline, also called the Friendship pipeline, has been halted since August 4.&nbsp;The suspension of oil was confirmed by MOL, a Hungarian energy firm and Transpetrol, a Slovak pipeline operator.

An estimated 250,000 barrels per day (bpd) is supplied by the Russian side through this pipeline and&nbsp;if the suspension continues, countries such as Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic might run out of oil as all of them are heavily reliant&nbsp;on Russian crude without any alternative in sight.&nbsp;

An uneven payment system

Transneft explained the issue by citing European financial sanctions which were acting as the bottleneck. Reportedly, Transneft made the payments through&nbsp;Gazprombank which is not on the list of sanctioned Russian companies.

Gazprombank made the payment last month on July 22 but a few days later, July 28 to be precise, the money was returned. It is pertinent to note that under the European Union sanctions, the banks in Europe have to seek approval from respective government authorities.

The war has been going on for months and yet the European continent has only been able to reduce their combined gas dependency on Russia by a tiny five per cent.&nbsp;Last year, Russia provided a whopping 40 per cent of Europe's total consumption of natural gas.

The military drills, which took place in six zones around the island, began on Thursday. It deployed more than 100 fighter jets, fired ballistic missiles and dispatched dozens of warships for the drill, the largest such exercise to be held around Taiwan. “After completing the mock strike mission, several bomber formations flew across the Taiwan Strait from north to south and from south to north simultaneously, carrying out a deterrence mission around the island jointly with other PLA services and branches,” said Global Times, the Chinese mouthpiece. However, on Monday, a day after the end of drills, China announced that more such military drills were in the pipeline, including anti-submarine and sea assault operations. According to experts, Beijing wants to continue to mount pressure on Taiwan and the international community. Reportedly, in an interview with NBC’s ‘TODAY’ show, Pelosi not only put her weight behind the ‘one China’ policy but also made the unfortunate gaffe that has caught the internet’s attention.&nbsp;

“We still support the ‘one China’ policy, we go there to acknowledge the status quo is what our policy is, there is nothing disruptive about that. It was only about saying, China is one of the freest societies in the world, don’t take it from me, that’s from Freedom House, it’s a strong democracy, courageous people,” said Pelosi.
