A new government report released by India has painted a grim picture of the consequences of climate change. Reportedly, India faced more than 200 days of heatwaves in the summer season this year alone, compared to only 36 last year. The five-time jump in the days of extreme mercury temperatures has left the experts befuddled at the express pace of climate change.&nbsp;

India’s earth sciences minister Jitendra Singh released the report and stated, “India experienced prolonged spells of heatwave during March and April 2022, hence the average maximum temperature of March 2022 had been the highest for All India (33.1C) and northwest India (30.7C) and it had been the second highest for central India (35.2C) as per the data during the period 1901 to 2022.”

A shortened Spring season

It is pertinent to note that the spring season which usually starts in February and stretches till the first few weeks of April was cut short this year. An intense hot weather climate presided over India from March which had a dire effect on the agricultural output of India.

Before the short spring, India was expected to fill the gap in wheat production left by Russia and Ukraine, currently embroiled in a war. However, the hot weather meant that wheat crops were destroyed and the government had to rein its approach, a couple of notches.&nbsp;

ByteDance-owned TikTok is now facing a backlash in New Zealand. Reportedly, the Kiwi lawmakers have been warned by House speaker Trevor Mallard to not use the TikTok app on their parliamentary phones and devices as it poses a security risk.

Reportedly, the directive was issued last week via the Parliamentary Service where the MPs were told that TikTok "could pose a security risk where data on your devices could be accessed by ByteDance (the owner of TikTok) and the Chinese Government."

While the Parliamentary Service strongly recommended that lawmakers delete the app, it also issued cautionary advice to those looking to keep it on their phones.&nbsp;

"Make sure you are comfortable with the permissions you have granted and remove its [TikTok] ability to access your location." read the cautionary advice.&nbsp;

Only a tiny percentage of Kiwi lawmakers have an official presence on the app but given its popularity, many will be tempted to use the short-video platform for their political campaigns in the future.

Over one million Kiwis use the app and thus, if not issued a directive early on, the app and its data harvesting policies could have serious ramifications.&nbsp;

It is pertinent to note that a&nbsp;2017 Chinese intelligence law compels a company based in China to give any information to the government as it requires. TikTok is based in China and thus the aspersions around its data practices.&nbsp;

TikTok and its wild popularity amongst the masses quickly brought it under the public microscope. However, in 2020, Donald Trump, the then US President banned the app citing security concerns and its closeness with the Politburo officials.

Moreover, Trump had attempted to tie down TikTok to US tech major Oracle so that the users data could stay in the country. However, before Trump could enact his policies, he lost the election to Democrat Joe Biden who reversed his decision.&nbsp;

Reportedly, three British women have come forward and objected to their photographs being used in the campaign's promotional material.

Sixty-year-old Juliet FitzPatrick from Southern England, a cancer survivor who has had a mastectomy stated that one of the women in the advertisement could be her.

Interestingly enough, the said woman in the advertisement also has had a mastectomy done and bore an eerily similar resemblance to Juliet.&nbsp;

It is pertinent to note that mastectomy is a surgery which involves removing all breast tissue as a means of treating or preventing breast cancer

Meanwhile, Nyome Nicholas-Williams and Sian Green-Lord are the other two women who have stated that their pictures have been used in the poster without their consent.&nbsp;

While Nyome remarked that the Spanish government had stolen an image from her Instagram account, Sian stated that not only her image was used without consent but her prosthetic leg was also edited out, in a campaign that seeks to promote body positivity.&nbsp;

As reported by WION, the Spanish ministry had&nbsp;tweeted the poster as part of its body positivity campaign, showcasing five women of all sizes and shapes, with the Spanish words “El verano también es nuestro” (which translates to “Summer is ours too”) sprawled across the top of the image. However, the tweet has been deleted now.&nbsp;

Only the tweet&nbsp;by Ione Belarra, minister of social service remains on the platform.&nbsp;

An Aboriginal senator from Victoria, Australia has made the news headlines for blasting Queen Elizabeth II as a ‘colonising’ queen during her oath-taking ceremony.

Reportedly, Lidia Thorpe, an Australian Greens Deputy Senate leader, was not amused when the oath of allegiance script referred to ‘remaining faithful’ to her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

When called by the chamber's speaker Sue Lines to reaffirm her allegiances, Thorpe walked to the table with her right fist raised in a Black Power salute. There, she reluctantly started reading the oath before taking a pause and prefixing the 'colonising' part to the pledge.

"I sovereign, Lidia Thorpe, do solemnly and sincerely swear that I will be faithful and I bear true allegiance to the colonising Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II," said Lidia.

Australia is a constitutional monarchy

It is pertinent to note that even today Queen Elizabeth II is Australia's head of state, despite the country receiving independence more than 120 years ago in 1901.&nbsp;

Succinctly put, Australia is not a republic but a constitutional monarchy. The 96-year-old monarch in Britain might not be responsible for the daily day-to-day working of the government but she certainly presides over the system.&nbsp;

She is responsible for appointing the Governor-General on the advice of the Prime Minister. The Governor-General is the Queen's representative in Australia.

There have been few attempts to make Australia a republic but so far, they haven't been successful. A referendum in 1999 was narrowly defeated as 55 per cent of Australians voted to maintain the status quo.&nbsp;

We need our customer's commitment at every step of the way but we are not there yet. While the economies around the planet have started to open up, skilled and unskilled labour is still hard to find. Even Boeing is having a tough time assembling the right workers for its aircraft&nbsp; production.&nbsp; "There are a lot of things we can’t get done because we don’t have the people,” added&nbsp;Calhoun.&nbsp;

Boeing's competitor Airbus has nudged ahead of it in recent times. If the supply chain constraints are not sorted, the gap is expected to widen further.&nbsp;

A major brawl broke out in the wee hours of Sunday in Orlando's downtown area of Wall Sreet Plaza and South Orange Avenue resulting in a shooting incident where at least seven were shot. Reportedly, the incident took place at 2 AM when the restaurants, clubs and bars were closing.&nbsp;

The six victims have been transported to Orlando Regional Centre while another has been admitted to AdventHealth. Fortunately, the last victim was able to go to the hospital on their own.&nbsp;

One of the videos posted on the microblogging platform Twitter shows dozens of people running for their lives near Orange Avenue after hearing several gunshots. The same video later shows a few of the Orlando Police officers tending to the two injured people lying on the sidewalk in front of Wall Street Plaza.&nbsp;

However, emphasis will be given to gauging the quality of manpower available as there have been reports of increased engineering negligence. Reportedly, IndiGo's maintenance crew had gone the whistleblower route recently and exposed the low-cost carrier for a lackadaisical attitude towards the safety of the aircraft. "The operators to whom you have leased your aircraft are not following standard procedure of maintenance. For the past four days technical staff are on strike and still they are flying the aircraft without proper maintenance and even they are deferring the scheduled maintenance" a letter to Airbus from the maintenance crew read. Read More: IndiGo whistleblowers claim airline not following standard procedure of maintenance The notable 'malfunction' incidents As reported extensively by WION, last week, for the second time in a month, an Indian plane had to land in the neighbouring country of Pakistan after developing technical snags. The IndiGo's Sharjah-Hyderbad flight 6E-1406 was forced to land in Karachi. Later, another plane was dispatched from India to ferry the passengers back to their destination. The first plane to land in Karachi was a Dubai-bound Delhi Spicejet flight that landed in Karachi on July 6. Reportedly, the plane had developed a fuel issue. However, it was only after the emergency landing that it was revealed that the issue was caused due to a malfunctioning fuel indicator light in the cockpit. Similarly, on the night of July 16, an Air India Express flight bound for Dubai was diverted to Muscat after a burning smell was observed in the cabin mid-air. However, the scariest incident of the lot was when Spicejet's Kandla-Mumbai flight made an emergency landing in Mumbai after the outer pane of the windshield cracked at the height of 23,000 feet.
