Reportedly, the US regulators have been demanding Alibaba to share its account books, stored in China, with the auditors.&nbsp;

If Alibaba is de-listed from the American market, it could be a major crisis for the company whose shares were&nbsp;down 11 per cent&nbsp;at $89.37, at the closing of the market.

These developments also come in the backdrop of founder Jack Ma, reportedly, looking to cede control of his fintech firm Ant Group Co. Ever since Ma separated Ant's assets from Alibaba more than ten years ago, he has held the reins of the company.

However, if he steps down and the SEC brings down the hammer on the delisting, it could be a double whammy for Alibaba.&nbsp;

It is pertinent to note that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) does not allow Chinese companies to share their account books with overseas audit agencies.&nbsp;

Most Chinese companies have an unsaid fidelity to the CCP. Opening the books might expose the connection and thus Beijing has been overtly protective of the companies.&nbsp;

American regulatory watchdog Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) has the power to audit such companies. However, if the watchdog is not able to access the books for a period of three years, the company stands to be de-listed from the stock market.&nbsp;

Access to books has been a major bone of contention between Washington and Beijing. When Donald Trump was in power and amidst a major trade war with China, he employed the strategy of opening 'books' to pin down China.&nbsp;

Under the Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act (HFCAA), over 270 Chinese companies are at the verge of being delisted from the US. However, Alibaba's delisting could be the biggest news of the lot.

It was only in January earlier this year after Twitter agreed to the Nigerian government's demands that it was allowed to come out of its seven-month exile. Reportedly, Twitter agreed to set up a local office among other agreements with authorities to be allowed back in the Nigerian market.&nbsp;

As for Facebook, for the first time in its history, the company reported a drop in revenue. This came on the back of Facebook users declining in the first few months of the year. The company cannot afford to lose the Kenyan market where&nbsp;over 13 million users used the social media app in March 2022.&nbsp;

Free Speech Systems, the&nbsp;parent company of far-right conspiracy website InfoWars filed for US bankruptcy protection on Friday (July 29) as the company and its founder Alex Jones face up to $150 million in damages in a trial over longstanding falsehoods he perpetuated about the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre.

The bankruptcy filing by the InfoWars parent, Free Speech Systems LLC, would normally result in the trial and related litigation being halted.

Reportedly, Chapter 11 bankruptcy procedures put a hold on all civil litigation matters and allow companies to prepare turnaround plans while remaining operational.

However, Free Speech plans to ask a bankruptcy judge to allow the trial currently underway in Texas to continue and is seeking an emergency hearing on Monday, according to a court filing.

Nevertheless, Jones and his company could later attempt to use the bankruptcy proceedings, which commenced in another Texas court, to limit the size of any damages a jury awards.

Alex Jones had previously filed for bankruptcy too

A bankruptcy filing by three other InfoWars entities in April proposed $10 million to resolve the litigation, far less than what the Sandy Hook families are seeking. The proposal contemplated legal releases shielding Jones and his company from the lawsuits in exchange for the payment.

The entities that previously declared bankruptcy viz. InfoW, IW Health and Prison Planet, voluntarily ended their cases in June after the Sandy Hook families dropped them as defendants in the defamation litigation.

Jones was found liable last year in lawsuits Sandy Hook families filed after he falsely claimed that the 2012 school massacre was a hoax.

The unusual judgments occurred after Jones defied court orders to turn over documents in the litigation. The cases were then teed up for trials to determine damages, with the first one now underway in an Austin, Texas courtroom.

Jones claimed the shooting, in which 20 children and six school employees were shot dead at the school in Newtown, Connecticut, was fabricated by gun-control advocates and mainstream media. Jones has since acknowledged the shooting happened.

Free Speech Systems believes it is in its best interests to continue the current damages trial because substantial resources have been spent on both sides, and the Sandy Hook plaintiffs would likely fight to keep the trial going despite the bankruptcy filing, W. Marc Schwartz, the company's restructuring advisor, said in a court filing.

The Sandy Hook families had opposed the previous April bankruptcy filing as a "sinister" attempt by Jones to shield his assets from liability.

Explaining the current bankruptcy filing, Schwartz said the Sandy Hook litigation resulted in InfoWars being shunned by significant internet, social media and financial institutions. The company's business suffered as a result, he said.

Mark Bankston, a lawyer representing Sandy Hook families, said he looked forward to continuing to put on his case for jurors, which is expected to include testimony as soon as Monday from the parents of one of the children murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary.

"Our clients are pleased that despite the bankruptcy, their trial will continue and that the jury will return a verdict," Bankston told Reuters in a text message. "Now, InfoWars is heading directly for its long-awaited, reckoning."

Britain's National Health Service (NHS) has announced that it will be shutting its three-decades-old Gender and Identity Development Service (Gids) centre at Tavistock &amp; Portman NHS foundation. Reportedly, an independent review has found the institute inadequate in dealing with the needs of the patients.

The institute aimed to help children and other young people, confused about their gender identities to find themselves and their identities.

However, in recent times, the whistleblowers, parents and other stakeholders revealed that the institute was inept at handling such delicate discussions, with some alleging that patients were referred to a gender transitioning pathway too quickly.

Keira Bell, a former patient had brought a suit against the institute in the High Court where she questioned the institute's use of puberty blockers.

Keira also stated that she was not challenged enough for her decision as a 16-year-old by the institute when she started taking drugs that transitioned her from female to male. A decision that Keira severely regretted later on in her life.&nbsp;

Moreover, being the lone institute for gender identity in the region, the sheer number of cases overwhelmed the capacity of the institute.&nbsp;

Dr Hilary Cass conducted the independent review and also noted in her interim report, “It has become increasingly clear that a single specialist provider model is not a safe or viable long-term option in view of concerns about lack of peer review and the ability to respond to the increasing demand.”

According to Dr Cass, in recent times, the rise in referrals to the Tavistock clinic led to a backlog of cases with the limited staff getting overburdened. The waiting lists had almost stretched to two years.&nbsp;

NHS now plans to replace the Tavistock clinic with numerous regional centres which will allow patients to receive complete and holistic treatment.&nbsp;

A centre in London and another in northwest England is expected to come up by spring next year as NHS attempts to build a regional network of such institutions.&nbsp;As for children currently enrolled at the clinic, there will be no immediate change.&nbsp;

The numbers are particularly impressive for the Jeff Bezos company as online sales shrank by 4 per cent, declining for the second quarter in a row.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Apple announced that its June quarter revenue stood at a record $83 billion, up two per cent YoY. Apple is expected to pay a dividend of $0.3 per share to its shareholders.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Apple CEO Tim Cook was quoted as saying after the release of quarterly results, “This quarter’s record results speak of Apple’s constant efforts to innovate, to advance new possibilities, and to enrich the lives of our customers."

Apple had good news coming from India as the company doubled its revenue in the June quarter. Along with iPhone, it was the iPad that was doing surprisingly well in the Asian country.&nbsp;

Now, researchers at World Weather Attribution have revealed that climate change made the record heatwave ten times more likely.&nbsp;

The team of researchers found that if it had not been for climate change, caused by excessive human activities, the heatwave temperatures would have been 4ºC cooler.

To gauge whether the heatwave was a byproduct of climate change, the researchers compared climate as it is today with the climate of the past, say the industrial age, using weather data and computer simulations.

The model results also suggested that there is a one per cent chance that such a heatwave could be repeated next year as well.&nbsp;

The world has already warmed by around 1.1ºC, since the beginning of the industrial age. The temperatures will continue to rise until worldwide governments drastically reduce emissions.

Such has been the effect of rising temperatures in the UK that communities have started requesting the government to draw up a heat risk strategy plan which included updating housing stock and ensuring new buildings cool down in hot weather.

The capital city of Washington DC is swarming with undocumented migrants who have arrived from the southern border states of Texas and Arizona. The influx of over 4,800 migrants has prompted DC's Mayor Muriel Bowser to call the situation a 'humanitarian crisis' that had brought the district to a 'tipping point'.

"The pace of arriving buses and the volume of arrivals have reached tipping points. Our collective response and service efforts have now become overwhelmed." wrote Bowser in a letter to President Joe Biden.&nbsp;

While city council members and migrant NGOs have asked the Democrat Mayor to devote city funds to the reception effort, she has refused saying that the federal government must step up.&nbsp;

With the situation turning worrisome with the arrival of buses, the district is running out of resources to manage the migrants.

Moreover, the security problems arising due to the migration crisis have forced Bowser to request for the National Guards. Reportedly Washington DC does not have its own guards and will have to rely on other states to offer their&nbsp;guardsmen.&nbsp;

Reportedly, Greg Abbott and Doug Ducey, governors of Texas and Arizona respectively, sent the migrants in buses over the course of the last few weeks to DC to show the Democrat hierarchy that illegal migration was a big problem in the southern states.&nbsp;

The influx of aliens into the soil of the United States, especially from the neighbouring country of Mexico is something which the Joe Biden administration has been unwilling and unable to manage.
