Indian American financier killed in freak shark attack in Costa Rica

Wall Streetsenior directorRohina Bhandari bled to death in a shark attack while scuba diving off the coast of Costa Rica, the country's Environment Ministry officials said.

Rohina Bhandari, who was identified by her friendsafter the attack, was scuba diving with atouristgroup of 18 people on the island trip organised by Undersea Hunter Group.

Bhandari'sdiving instructor, who was alsobadly injured, said that she was dragged from the Pacific ocean after suffering severe bites onher legs but could not be saved.

The instructor, who is nowstable,told officials that the shark attacked his group while they were surfacing at the end of the dive in waters close to Cocos Islands about 300 miles from the country's mainland, Telegraph.co.uk reported.

The shark was first noticed by the instructor who tried to scare the shark away but later it swam to Bhandari and attacked her leg, media reports said.

The Environment Ministry said the attack was the most serious one it had seen.

The shark that attacked the group was Tiger shark often found around Pacific Islands.

Bhandari was a senior director at WL Ross & CoLL, a firm founded by Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, and often attended New York City charity events.

Several friends expressed their grief on Facebook.
