Rockets fired from Lebanon kill ten in annexed Golan Heights, IDF blames Hezbollah

At least ten people were killed on theIsraeli-occupied Golan Heights on Saturday (Jul 27) after the town ofMajdal Shams was hit by a barrage of rockets fired from Lebanon, reported news agency AFP.
Eli Bin, head of the Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service, earlier reported thatnine people had been killed and 34 wounded including 17 in critical condition.
Earlier, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said approximately 30 projectiles were fired from Lebanon.“A short while ago, sirens sounded in the area of Majdal Shams. One projectile was identified crossing from Lebanon toward the area. A hit was identified in the area. Injuries were reported,” the IDF said.
It was not immediately clear who fired the projectiles, with Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah firmly denying its involvement.
“The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon firmly denies the allegations made by some enemy media outlets and various media platforms regarding the targeting of Majdal Shams,” it said in a Telegram channel on Saturday.
The IDF on the other hand, blamed Hezbollah for the attack.

"The Hezbollah terrorist organisation is behind the rocket launch at a soccer field in Majdal Shams," the Israeli army said in a statement.
Meanwhile, local police saidmunitions have fallen in “multiple sites in the northern Golan.”

The local police officers are “securing the area and searching for additional remnants to eliminate any further risk to the public,” the Police Spokesperson’s Unit said.
CNN quoted Idan Avshalom, a senior medic from MDA as saying, “We arrived at a soccer field and saw destruction and objects on fire. Injured people were lying on the grass and the sights were dire. We immediately began triaging the injured, some of the injured were sent to local clinics and our teams were also directed to the clinics. During the incident there were additional alerts and the medical treatment of the injured is still ongoing.”
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has been briefed about the situation and is holding consultations withhis military secretary General Roman Gofman, the PM office said.
The Golan Heights are considered occupied territory under international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions. Israel seized the narrow strip of land from Syria in 1967 during the Six-Day War and annexed the land in 1981.
