In a significant step for religious inclusivity, the Pakistani government has provided 10 million ( one crore) Pakistani rupees to reconstruct the Baoli Sahib Hindu temple inZafarwal, Punjab province, Pakistan. This marks the first effort to restore the temple, which has remained non-functional for 64 years.
Hindu community in Pakistan
Hindus are the largest minority group in Pakistan, with official estimates of around 7.5 million, though community leaders believe the number could exceed 9 million. Most reside in Sindh province, maintaining strong cultural ties with their Muslim neighbours.
Advocacy for restoration
For the past 20 years, the Pak Dharamsthan Committee has advocated for the temple's revival. The temple will be handed over to the committee after construction is finished, including the setting up of a boundary wall on the four-kanal area as per the PTI report.

Sawan Chand, president of the Pak Dharamsthan Committee, expressed optimism, stating that this restoration will meet a long-standing demand of the Hindu community, enabling them to conduct their religious rituals on site.
The Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB), responsible for minority worship sites, has begun work on the project. The Baoli Sahib temple has been non-operational since 1960 and will now be restored to support Narowal's Hindu community of over 1,453 members.
Support from key figures
Notable figures such as Shoaib Siddal, chairman of the One Man Commission of the Supreme Court and Manzoor Masih from the National Commission of Human Rights have played crucial roles in advancing this initiative. The restoration of the Baoli Sahib temple is set to provide Narowal’s Hindu community with a much-needed space for their religious practices, marking a positive development in the country’s journey towards greater inclusivity.
