Chinese officials had earlier clarified that the sanctions would not stop Rubio from boarding Air Force One or entering the country. Chinese media referring to him as “Lu” also grabbed attention online, while Rubio’s casual Nike outfit during the trip unexpectedly became a talking point on social media.
