India relies heavily on out-of-pocket healthcare payments

India’s out-of-pocket healthcare spending has fallen to 39.4% of total health expenditure, down from 62.6% in 2014–15, according to Press Information Bureau data. Despite the decline, households continue to shoulder a significant share of medical costs.
