Malawi's government initiated a large-scale food distribution effort on Wednesday to aid more than five million people suffering from severe hunger due to a drought intensified by climate change and the El Niño weather phenomenon. This drought, the worst in southern Africa in a century, has devastated the region, leaving landscapes desolate and millions facing critical food shortages.
