Iran has begun a historic, week-long funeral ceremony for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a February 2026 airstrike. Hundreds of thousands of mourners have descended upon Tehran, filling the streets and the Imam Khomeini Mosalla Grand Mosque to pay their final respects. The ceremonies, which include the bodies of several family members killed in the same attack, are being viewed as a critical moment of transition for the Islamic Republic.
