Italy: Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni suspends social welfare programme
The right-wing government of Giorgia Meloni is terminating benefits for thousands of families and individuals who are declared "fit to work." In late July, an SMS alerting them of the sudden termination of the benefits they had been receiving for the previous four years was sent to around 169,000 households throughout Italy.
