Photo-sharing platform Instagram announced on Tuesday (local time) it has extended the time limit for live streams from 60 minutes to four hours.

The change is global and applies to all Instagram users. The reason behind the move, Instagram said, is helping creators -- yoga instructors, musicians, artists, cooks, and the like -- to do longer sessions with their audience without being interrupted every hour, reported Mashable.

However, this will only be available to accounts "in good standing," with no history of IP or policy violations, Instagram said. As per Instagram, it is also adding the option to archive live broadcasts for as long as 30 days. "Now your live videos will be kept in your archive. Only you can see them. After your live videos end, they will be available in your archive for 30 days. You can download your live videos to your device or upload them to IGTV from your archive," said a notice that will be shown to users on launch, reported Mashable.

Instagram said this new feature will launch `soon.`

The company also said that it will be updating the `Live Now` section on IGTV and at the end of a live stream, with the idea of providing people with more content that may interest them, both from the creators they follow, and those they don`t.

Facebook Inc announced on Tuesday that the company's top lobbyist in India Ankhi Das has quit, in the midst of a controversy over how Facebook regulates and manages political content in the country.

Das was Facebook's public policy head for India, South and Central Asia. According to the company statement, Das stepped down to pursue public service.

Controversy erupted in August after The Wall Street Journal reported that the company had failed to apply hate-speech restrictions to some groups and individuals owing to the fear of damage to the company's business potential in the country.

The company had faced questions from employees internally a few weeks ago, in terms of how it regulates political content in its biggest market - India.

Reuters reported that Facebook India Head Ajit Mohan had defended the company's policies and Das' role in an internal community post.

Instagram will update its policy on nudity&nbsp;following a campaign by a Black British plus-sized model in order to help end discrimination and ensure all body types are treated fairly.

Instagram and its parent company Facebook made the announcement in an exclusive interview with 'The Observer' after&nbsp;Nyome Nicholas-Williams accused them of removing her images showing her covering her breasts with her arms betrayed "racial biases" in its algorithm.

&nbsp;

As campaigning victories go, forcing Mark Zuckerberg’s social media empire to admit a discriminatory flaw in its policy is no small feat.

The companies&nbsp;said it would now allow pictures of women holding, cupping, or wrapping their arms around their breasts, adjusting previous guidelines that led to the removal of some such images on the grounds they were pornographic.

"It may take some time to ensure we're correctly enforcing these new updates, but we're committed to getting this right," an Instagram spokeswoman said, acknowledging that it had incorrectly removed pictures of Nyome Nicholas-Williams.

"Hearing her feedback helped us understand where this policy was falling short, and how we could refine it," the spokeswoman said in an emailed statement.

Nicholas-Williams welcomed the company's decision and said she would continue to monitor the platform to make sure the new guidelines were implemented.

"Overall I'm very glad about the policy change and what this could mean for Black plus-size bodies," she told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, apologised last month to Nicholas-Williams and said it would update its policy, amid global concern over racism in technology following the global Black Lives Matter protests this year.

Instagram has not responded directly to charges of racial bias, but said: "Separate to this policy change, earlier this year we committed to broader equity work to help ensure we better support the Black community on our platform."

The platform said the prior ban on breast-squeezing images had been incorrectly applied when Nicholas-William's photos were first taken down in July, and that the policy overhaul aimed to ensure all body types were "treated fairly".

Gina Martin, a feminist activist who worked with photographer Alexandra Cameron and Nicholas-Williams on their #IWantToSeeNyome campaign, said they had met Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri and been consulted on the new policy.

"It's rare that communities that are marginalised and misrepresented on Instagram get to have this kind of literally direct and one-on-one consultation with the CEO... it's rare that you're this involved in a policy change."

"It's a really nice example of what happens when women get together," said Martin, who successfully campaigned for "upskirting" - covertly taking intimate photos of someone without their consent - to be criminalised in Britain.

China's top cyber authority said on Monday it would carry out a "rectification" of Chinese mobile internet browsers to address what it called social concerns over the "chaos" of information being published online.

China's strict internet censorship rules have been tightened numerous times in recent years and in the latest crackdown, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has told firms operating mobile browsers that they have until November&nbsp;9 to conduct a "self-examination" and rectify problems.

The problems include the spreading of rumours, the use of sensationalist headlines, and the publishing of content that violates the core values of socialism, it said in a statement.

"For some time, mobile browsers have grown in an uncivilised way ... and have become a gathering place and amplifier for the dissemination of&nbsp;chaos&nbsp;by 'self-media'," the CAC said, referring to independently operated social media accounts, many of which publish news.

"After the rectification, mobile browsers that still have outstanding problems will be dealt with strictly according to laws and regulations until related businesses are banned."

The campaign will initially focus on eight of the most influential mobile browsers in China, including those operated by Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, Alibaba Group Holding's UCWeb, and Xiaomi Corp, it said.

Others include the QQ platform owned by Tencent, Qihoo-owned 360, Oppo, and Sogou.

Huawei's browser unit said in a statement on Tuesday it would conduct a comprehensive self-examination and clean-up in line with the regulator's requests, and would also place strict controls over 'self-media' accounts.

Xiaomi and UCWeb declined to comment, while Tencent, Oppo, Sogou and 360 did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Legislation introduced in recent years by China include measures to restrict media outlets, surveillance measures for media sites and rolling campaigns to remove content deemed unacceptable.

On Monday, Facebook Inc launched a cloud gaming feature on its Facebook platform. The free service allows users to play and stream games without downloading them.

The catalogue includes racing behemoth Asphalt: 9 Legends, and WWE SuperCard. The best part? You don't need to download the games to play them!

''We recently had 200,000 people playing our cloud-streamed games per week in limited regions, so while it’s not exactly a secret, I’m excited to lay out what we’re building'', the company announced in its blog post.

"We're not spinning off a separate cloud gaming service," the company announced in a blog post.

All cloud-based games can now be played on Facebook's gaming tab, or its news feed.

The new feature, however, is a small-scale addition, and does not look like it will be competing directly with Google's Stadia, Nvidia's GeForce NOW, or Amazon's Luna, that are looking to penetrate the high-end gaming market.

''No special hardware or controllers needed – your hands are the controllers since we’re launching with native mobile games. And you can play these games with a mouse and keyboard on desktop'', the blog post said.

Available to Android and web users, the feature will soon be available on iOS as well.

"Apple treats games differently and continues to exert control over a very precious resource," the company said. Facebook also added that it is unsure about launching the games on Apple's App Store, claiming it may not be the most "viable'' path.

When Tim Cook and Sundar Pichai, the chief executives of Apple and Google, were photographed eating dinner together in 2017 at an upscale Vietnamese restaurant called Tamarine, the picture set off a tabloid-worthy frenzy about the relationship between the two most powerful companies in Silicon Valley.

As the two men sipped red wine at a window table inside the restaurant in Palo Alto, their companies were in tense negotiations to renew one of the most lucrative business deals in history: an agreement to feature Google’s search engine as the preselected choice on Apple’s iPhone and other devices. The updated deal was worth billions of dollars to both companies and cemented their status at the top of the tech industry’s pecking order.

Now the partnership is in jeopardy. Last Tuesday, the Justice Department filed a landmark lawsuit against Google — the U.S. government’s biggest antitrust case in two decades — and homed in on the alliance as a prime example of what prosecutors say are the company’s illegal tactics to protect its monopoly and choke off competition in web search.

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/facebooks-zuckerberg-twitters-dorsey-to-testify-before-us-senate-panel-after-us-election-337677">Also read|&nbsp;Facebook's Zuckerberg, Twitter's Dorsey to testify before US Senate panel after US election</a>

The scrutiny of the pact, which was first inked 15 years ago and has rarely been discussed by either company, has highlighted the special relationship between Silicon Valley’s two most valuable companies — an unlikely union of rivals that regulators say is unfairly preventing smaller companies from flourishing.

“We have this sort of strange term in Silicon Valley: co-optation,” said Bruce Sewell, Apple’s general counsel from 2009 to 2017. “You have brutal competition, but at the same time, you have necessary cooperation.”

Apple and Google are joined at the hip, even though Cook has said internet advertising, Google’s bread and butter, engages in “surveillance” of consumers and even though Steve Jobs, Apple’s co-founder, once promised “thermonuclear war” on his Silicon Valley neighbor when he learned it was working on a rival to the iPhone.

Apple and Google’s parent company, Alphabet, worth more than $3 trillion combined, do compete on plenty of fronts, like smartphones, digital maps and laptops. But they also know how to make nice when it suits their interests. And few deals have been nicer to both sides of the table than the iPhone search deal.

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/trumps-loss-joe-biden-breaks-television-spending-record-week-before-us-election-2020-337663">Also read|&nbsp;Trump's loss: Joe Biden breaks television spending record week before US Election 2020</a>

Nearly half of Google’s search traffic now comes from Apple devices, according to the Justice Department, and the prospect of losing the Apple deal has been described as a “code red” scenario inside the company. When iPhone users search on Google, they see the search ads that drive Google’s business. They can also find their way to other Google products, like YouTube.

A former Google executive, who asked not to be identified because he was not permitted to talk about the deal, said the prospect of losing Apple’s traffic was “terrifying” to the company.

The Justice Department, which is asking for a court injunction preventing Google from entering into deals like the one it made with Apple, argues that the arrangement has unfairly helped make Google, which handles 92% of the world’s internet searches, the center of consumers’ online lives.

Online businesses like Yelp and Expedia as well as companies ranging from noodle shops to news organizations often complain that Google’s search domination enables it to charge advertising fees when people simply look up their names, as well as to steer consumers toward its own products, like Google Maps. Microsoft, which had its own antitrust battle two decades ago, has told British regulators that if it were the default option on iPhones and iPads, it would make more advertising money for every search on its rival search engine, Bing.

What’s more, competitors like DuckDuckGo, a small search engine that sells itself as a privacy-focused alternative to Google, could never match Google’s tab with Apple.

Apple now receives an estimated $8 billion to $12 billion in annual payments — up from $1 billion a year in 2014 — in exchange for building Google’s search engine into its products. It is probably the single biggest payment that Google makes to anyone and accounts for 14% to 21% of Apple’s annual profits. That’s not money Apple would be eager to walk away from.

In fact, Cook and Pichai met again in 2018 to discuss how they could increase revenue from search. After the meeting, a senior Apple employee wrote to a Google counterpart that “our vision is that we work as if we are one company,” according to the Justice Department’s complaint.

A forced breakup could mean the loss of easy money to Apple. But it would be a more significant threat to Google, which would have no obvious way to replace the lost traffic. It could also push Apple to acquire or build its own search engine. Within Google, people believe that Apple is one of the few companies in the world that could offer a formidable alternative, according to one former executive. Google has also worried that without the agreement, Apple could make it more difficult for iPhone users to get to the Google search engine.

A spokesperson for Apple declined to comment on the partnership, while a Google spokesperson pointed to a blog post in which the company defended the relationship.

Even though its bill with Apple keeps going up, Google has said again and again that it dominates internet search because consumers prefer it, not because it is buying customers. The company argues that the Justice Department is painting an incomplete picture; its partnership with Apple, it says, is no different than Coca-Cola paying a supermarket for prominent shelf space.

Other search engines like Microsoft’s Bing also have revenue-sharing agreements with Apple to appear as secondary search options on iPhones, Google says in its defense. It adds that Apple allows people to change their default search engine from Google — though few probably do because people typically don’t tinker with such settings and many prefer Google anyway.

Apple has rarely, if ever, publicly acknowledged its deal with Google and, according to Bernstein Research, has mentioned its so-called licensing revenue in an earnings call for the first time this year.

According to a former senior executive who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of confidentiality contracts, Apple’s leaders have made the same calculation about Google as much of the general public: The utility of its search engine is worth the cost of its invasive practices.

“Their search engine is the best,” Cook said when asked by Axios in late 2018 why he partnered with a company he also implicitly criticized. He added that Apple had also created ways to blunt Google’s collection of data, such as a private-browsing mode on Apple’s internet browser.

The deal is not limited to searches in Apple’s Safari browser; it extends to virtually all searches done on Apple devices, including with Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri, and on Google’s iPhone app and Chrome browser.

The relationship between the companies has swung from friendly to contentious to today’s “co-optation.” In the early years of Google, the company’s co-founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, saw Jobs as a mentor, and they would take long walks with him to discuss the future of technology.

In 2005, Apple and Google inked what at the time seemed like a modest deal: Google would be the default search engine on Apple’s Safari browser on Mac computers.

Quickly, Cook, then still a deputy to Jobs, saw the arrangement’s lucrative potential, according to another former senior Apple executive who asked not to be named. Google’s payments were pure profit, and all Apple had to do was feature a search engine its users already wanted.

Apple expanded the deal for its big upcoming product: the iPhone. When Jobs unveiled the iPhone in 2007, he invited Eric Schmidt, Google’s then chief executive, to join him onstage for the first of Apple’s many famous iPhone events.

“If we just sort of merged the two companies, we could just call them AppleGoo,” joked Schmidt, who was also on Apple’s board of directors. With Google search on the iPhone, he added, “you can actually merge without merging.”

Then the relationship soured. Google had quietly been developing a competitor to the iPhone: smartphone software called Android that any phone-maker could use. Jobs was furious. In 2010, Apple sued a phone-maker that used Android. “I’m going to destroy Android,” Jobs told his biographer, Walter Isaacson. “I will spend my last dying breath if I need to.”

A year later, Apple introduced Siri. Instead of Google underpinning the virtual assistant, it was Microsoft’s Bing.

Yet the companies’ partnership on iPhones continued — too lucrative for either side to blow it up. Apple had arranged the deal to require periodic renegotiations, according to a former senior executive, and each time, it extracted more money from Google.

“You have to be able to maintain those relationships and not burn a bridge,” said Sewell, Apple’s former general counsel, who declined to discuss specifics of the deal. “At the same time, when you’re negotiating on behalf of your company and you’re trying to get the best deal, then, you know, the gloves come off.”

Around 2017, the deal was up for renewal. Google was facing a squeeze, with clicks on its mobile ads not growing fast enough. Apple was not satisfied with Bing’s performance for Siri. And Cook had just announced that Apple aimed to double its services revenue to $50 billion by 2020, an ambitious goal that would be possible only with Google’s payments.

By the fall of 2017, Apple announced that Google was now helping Siri answer questions, and Google disclosed that its payments for search traffic had jumped. The company offered an anodyne explanation to part of the reason it was suddenly paying some unnamed company hundreds of millions of dollars more: “changes in partner agreements.”

Also read| Facebook's Zuckerberg, Twitter's Dorsey to testify before US Senate panel after US election The scrutiny of the pact, which was first inked 15 years ago and has rarely been discussed by either company, has highlighted the special relationship between Silicon Valley’s two most valuable companies — an unlikely union of rivals that regulators say is unfairly preventing smaller companies from flourishing. “We have this sort of strange term in Silicon Valley: co-optation,” said Bruce Sewell, Apple’s general counsel from 2009 to 2017. “You have brutal competition, but at the same time, you have necessary cooperation.” Apple and Google are joined at the hip, even though Cook has said internet advertising, Google’s bread and butter, engages in “surveillance” of consumers and even though Steve Jobs, Apple’s co-founder, once promised “thermonuclear war” on his Silicon Valley neighbor when he learned it was working on a rival to the iPhone. Also read| Trump's loss: Joe Biden breaks television spending record week before US Election 2020 Nearly half of Google’s search traffic now comes from Apple devices, according to the Justice Department, and the prospect of losing the Apple deal has been described as a “code red” scenario inside the company. Also read| Selena Gomez calls out Mark Zuckerberg, asks to stop spreading misinformation What’s more, competitors like DuckDuckGo, a small search engine that sells itself as a privacy-focused alternative to Google, could never match Google’s tab with Apple. If you don't exercise caution, you can easily lose your hard-earned money to scammers. Don't we read about people falling into the trap of fraudsters online almost every day? So, I will be talking to you about the most prevalent online frauds in India so that you can safeguard your money without compromising on any online experience. These tips will help you stay vigilant and keep your money safe.

Sadly, many scammers are targetting services and apps that you use the most such as WhatsApp, Paytm and Facebook. Let’s go over each of these, one by one.

Beware of KYC scam on Paytm

All of us use digital payment services to make online payments, and Paytm is among the most popular apps. However, miscreants are using a KYC scam to dupe Paytm users. Here is a word of caution. If you receive a message asking you to update your KYC, don’t react immediately. There is a strong possibility that these could be fraudsters attempting to get your details and defraud you of your money.

And, in case, you get a call and are asked to download any app such as QuickSupport or AnyDesk to complete or renew your KYC, do not do so. These apps could be used by fraudsters to take over your phone screen and Paytm account to steal your money. Also, don’t get tricked by other dubious messages that claim to offer you cashbacks and rewards.

It’s not just about Paytm, be careful even while using other digital payment services such as Google Pay or PhonePe. Also, never share your credit or debit card details, card CVV number, UPI pin, or OTP with anyone or on any website shared with you on SMS.

Facebook fraudsters

Frauds are also happening on Facebook. What is the modus operandi? A miscreant first clones a profile of someone you may know, a friend or a family member. He or she then approaches you, using that fake profile on Messenger. It starts with greetings and then money is demanded on some pretext or the other. While some see it as a red flag and exercise good judgement, others fall prey to this tactic.

If you happen to come across any such situation, call the person in question and cross check before transferring any money. Other best practices that you can adopt is keep your friends list private and share photos only with friends. This will prevent fraudsters from impersonating accounts.

QR code scams on OLX

Fraudsters are actually trying to exploit all possible platforms. Online marketplace OLX is another place for criminals to cheat people. Cyber criminals usually pose as armed forces or paramilitary personnel to dupe people, who are looking to buy or sell items on OLX. Portraying themselves as a soldier in uniform helps them look more credible and makes it easier to earn trust.

They usually show interest in the listed products and ask you to scan a QR code so that they can send you advance or a token amount. Do not scan such codes. You will not receive any money, instead money from your account would be debited. So, be careful and don’t become a victim of QR code scams.

WhatsApp scams on the rise

When it comes to scams, even WhatsApp isn’t safe. Recently, the State Bank of India warned its customers of frauds on WhatsApp. Bank customers were found to be informed about winning a lottery and asked to contact an SBI number. It was a fake message that was being circulated. I advise that please refrain from reacting to such phoney messages. This is just one example of WhatsApp frauds. I am sure you may have heard of other similar WhatsApp scams.

Be careful online, especially when it involves money. No platform is foolproof, so cross check when someone asks for money. Verify the credentials of the person. And never share your card details, UPI pin or OTP password with anyone. Stay safe and stay smart.

How social media companies will handle post-US election scenarios

The United States on Tuesday pledged a&nbsp;$1 billion deal to Brazil to sway it away from China's Huawei to develop its 5G network.

Earlier, Sweden had announced that it is banning the Chinese telecommunication company from manufacturing any equipment in the country.&nbsp; It was the latest US ally to do so, amid a pressure campaign from the Trump administration to ostracize China from the world telecoms market.

The United States and Brazil have cozied up under Trump and Bolsonaro, whose shared penchant for hardline policies, vitriolic rhetoric, and social media have drawn comparisons.

But the 5G issue has become a potential source of strain as Brazil plans a tender next year to upgrade the mobile network in Latin America's biggest economy.

China is Brazil's top trading partner, and Huawei has emerged as the leading supplier of fast and cheap next-generation telecoms infrastructure.

The Trump administration warns that the firm is a security threat, accusing it of passing data and intelligence to the Chinese government.

The Chinese embassy in Brasilia lashed out angrily at comments to that effect by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and O'Brien during his visit.

"They spread lies about China in bad faith, fabricating a so-called 'Chinese threat' and attacking China's 5G technology," a spokesman said in an interview posted on the embassy's website.

Previously, Britain banned mobile providers in July from using Huawei equipment in their new 5G networks and ordered them to remove existing equipment made by the company.

France has also placed heavy restrictions on the use of Huawei equipment.

WhatsApp to get new exciting features like video calling on WhatsApp Web. Here's what to expect

The future is near, they say? In one of the most uncanny sights of 2020, a rickshaw could be seen getting pulled by a robot!&nbsp;

The video, which has gone viral online is nothing like you have ever seen. In the footage, one can see American television personality and special effects designer Adam Savage toying with a robo-dog. The robot is pulling a three-wheel passenger carriage.

The timestamp on the video is not recent, meaning it was filmed in February 2020. But all good things in life, this one took its own time to surface as well.

After being posted by an IAS officer - Surpiya Sahu, the video has gained major traction online, and has bamboozled thousands alike.

The three-wheel passenger carriage, or what it is more commonly known as - a rickshaw in India, being pulled by a robot is not what one ever expected to see.&nbsp;

The clip was shared by Sahu saying “Future Rickshaws!”, which does not sound too far fetched. In many areas of India, where rickshaws are still pulled manually, the robots may provide relief to humans, and also make the mode of transport more humane.

Twitter went wild after the video went public. While many went along the general lines of appreciating the robot, many wished the robot could be repurposed to achieve other human goals in life - like going to office.

Siddharth explained how the watch helped his father. "Since Apple Watch allows the ECG function, one can check it on a more regular basis. Twice or thrice, in the middle of the night, my father was getting arrhythmia signals or irregular heartbeats. It’s a critical indicator," Siddharth told IANS.

After noticing irregularities, the family went to se aa doctor. Rajhans did not suffer any heart conditions and hypertension.

He found that he had a low ejection fraction and was in need of immediate heart surgery. Even though the surgery was delayed due to COVID-19, Rajhans monitored his ECG on the watch.

Sweden on Tuesday announced that it has banned&nbsp;the use of telecom equipment from China's Huawei&nbsp;from upcoming 5G networks.

The announcement comes as a major setback for the company that was banned in the United Kingdom earlier in July.

The ban is in line with new legislation that entered into force in January 2020, following an examination by the Swedish armed forces and security service "to ensure that the use of radio equipment in these bands does not cause harm to Sweden's security," the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority said in a statement.

European governments have been reviewing the role of Chinese companies in building their networks following pressure from the United States, which says they pose a security threat because, among other concerns, Chinese companies and citizens must by law aid the state in intelligence gathering.

The United Kingdom in July ordered Huawei equipment to be purged completely from Britain’s 5G network by 2027, becoming one of the first European countries to do so.

Huawei and ZTE did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the decision by Sweden.

PTS said companies taking part in the auction must remove Huawei and ZTE gear from existing central functions by Jan. 1 2025.

The regulator defined central functions as equipment used to build the radio access network, the transmission network, the core network and the service and maintenance of the network.

PTS said the licence conditions were decided to address the assessments made by the armed forces and security service.

Ireland’s Data Protection Commissioner is investigating Instagram over how the platform handles personal data of kids. If the company has broken any privacy laws, Facebook, the parent company could be liable to pay a huge fine.

Recently, reports highlighting Instagram’s inability to protect data gained traction online. According the reports, Instagram allowed email address and phone numbers of minors, or those aged below 18, to become public.

Facebook has rejected the claims so far, but says it is&nbsp;cooperating with Ireland’s DPC.

DPC is the European Union’s lead regulator as part of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which was implemented in 2018.

The responsibilities of the DPC include protecting one’s right to online privacy, and can levy huge fines on companies for misdemeanour.&nbsp;

The regulator is also taking into account whether Facebook does enough to protect the data of children that use Instagram. One has to be at least 13-years-old to make an Instagram account.

The DPC will also look at whether the company follows the guidelines in pace for “vulnerable people”.

Multiple media reports claim that the investigations began after a complaint from a US-based data scientist - David Stier, who spent the last year analysing at least 200,000 profiles on Instagram.

In the process of his research, Stier found how 60 million minor users on Instagram had been granted the option to convert their account into a business account.

Once an account is registered for business, they are required to display their email addresses and phone numbers publicly, thereby compromising the privacy of minors who had switched to a business account.

"We've made several updates to business accounts since the time of Mr Stier's mischaracterisation in 2019, and people can now opt out of including their contact information entirely”, a Facebook representative told BBC on Monday.

Now, Instagram&nbsp;has agreed measures to crack down on hidden advertising by so-called influencers on its photo and video platform, Britain’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said on Friday.

In what the CMA described as an important behaviour shift by a major social media platform, Facebook Ireland, which operates Instagram in Britain, has committed to a package of changes.

“This will make it much harder for people to post an advert on Instagram without labelling it as such,” the CMA said in a statement.

Facebook said the company was pleased to be working with the CMA on its continued efforts to increase transparency on when people are paid to post content on Instagram.

“We are also proud to be launching a programme with MediaSmart to help educate young people about branded content and how to identify it,” Facebook added.

The CMA said it has been investigating concerns that too many influencers are posting content about businesses without making it clear they have been paid or received other incentives to do so.

Influencers will have to confirm and disclose if they have received any incentives to promote a product or service.

Instagram will also use technology to spot when users might not have disclosed clearly that a post is an advertisement, the CMA said.

Ever been stuck in a situation where you cannot recall a song and cannot get it out of your mind too; where you simply cannot work out the name of the song or any of the lyrics?

Google Assistant is here to your rescue.

The tech giant has launched a feature called ‘hum to search’, which lets one hum to search for songs.

One can now request Google Assistant (or tap the mic icon on the Google Search widget) and ask “what’s this song?” then start humming.&nbsp;

The user needs to hum for around 10-15 seconds and Google Assistant will then use machine learning to try and identify the song.

Google will then give a selection of likely matches, so even if you don’t hum it perfectly there’s a good chance one of the options will be right.

Would you ever buy a Ferrari, if you lived in a place that didn't have good roads? The answer, I think, would be a resounding no, because you won't be able to drive it and experience the thrill of high speed. Simply because, the roads cannot handle those speeds. So, what’s the whole point of getting one, right?

The 5G-powered iPhone 12 is a bit like that Ferrari. It comes with the power of 5G, a technology that theoretically offers speeds 10 to 20 times faster than the current 4G wireless networks. But can you actually experience these blazing speeds on the new iPhone? No, you can’t. Because we don’t have the infrastructure that can facilitate these super-fast speeds.

This may sound harsh, but in India, buying a 5G phone is a waste because we don’t have 5G networks yet. And I don’t expect them to be in place before the mid of 2021.

If you talk about the US, several telecom operators have deployed 5G networks on lower spectrum bands, which offer slightly higher speeds than 4G. In fact, a noticeably faster variant of "mid-band" 5G is also being rolled out in America, but it will take around 5 years to reach 75 percent of the country's population. The fact is that, currently, 5G phones in the United States are seeing only a small bump up from 4G speeds. So, there's going to be relatively very little you can do on a 5G iPhone that you can't with a 4G iPhone.

In South Korea, 5G networks are better and faster, but local players such as Samsung are in a stronger position to woo users. Apple is likely to struggle there with its 5G proposition.

Another important thing to note is that we don’t even have many apps that can tap into the potential of 5G. Remember how the interest in 4G was fuelled by Facebook and YouTube mobile apps?

So, perhaps, we first need applications that can use higher speeds to deliver something new and kindle our interest in the next-gen mobile network.

The point I am trying to make here is that don’t buy the new iPhone just because it has 5G. Pick it only if you think it has everything else that you are looking for in your phone. The same holds true for 5G-enabled Android phones as well.

In short, 5G is still evolving. So, don’t fall for the 5G marketing gimmick that many phone makers are now banking on. It's simply a sales ploy.

A Japanese computer has shed light on the spread of coronavirus and the role played by local conditions.

According tot he supercomputer, humidity can have a huge impact on the spread of COVID-19, and can potentially cause particles of virus to spread. This is owing to the dry conditions indoors during winter.

The findings add that humidifiers may assist in limiting the rate of infections during winter, when window ventilation is not viable. The study was released by Riken, a research giant, in collaboration with Kobe University.

Using the Fugaku supercomputer, the researchers modelled the emission and potential flow of COVID-19 like particles in indoor environments.

The researchers discovered that twice as much as aerosolised particles were released when the air humidity was lower than 30 per cent, when compared to humidity levels of 60 per cent and higher.

Additionally, the study added that masks are more effective than face shields when it comes to protecting oneself from COVID-19 aerosols.

The supercomputer also found that while dining, people are at more risk of contracting COVID-19 from others on the side, not to their front. It also added that the number of singers in choruses should be limited.

The scientific community is increasingly accepting that the virus can spread through air. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revised its guidelines earlier this month, claiming the pathogen can linger in the air for hours.

The research team for Riken was spearheaded by Makoto Tsubokura. The same team has led other studies which modelled spread of COVID-19 in work spaces, trains, and class rooms.

The computer simulations showed that opening windows on trains can help improve ventilation by three times, which in turn lowers the concentration of ambient microbes.

"People's blind fear or unfounded confidence against the infection of COVID-19 is simply because it is invisible," Tsubokura told Reuters.

Huawei&nbsp;Technologies Co Ltd is in talks with Digital China Group Co Ltd and other suitors to sell parts of its Honor smartphone unit in a deal that could fetch up to 25 billion yuan ($3.7 billion), people with knowledge of the matter said.

Embattled&nbsp;Huawei&nbsp;is resetting its priorities due to US&nbsp;sanctions and will focus on its higher-end&nbsp;Huawei&nbsp;phones rather than the Honor brand which is aimed at young people and the budget conscious, they said.

The assets to be sold have yet to be finalised but could include Honor's brand, research &amp; development capabilities and related supply chain management business, two of the people said.

The deal may be an all-cash sale and could end up smaller, worth somewhere between 15 billion yuan and 25 billion yuan, one of the people said.

Digital China, the main distributor for Honor phones, has emerged as the frontrunner but other prospective buyers include Chinese electronics maker TCL and rival smartphone maker Xiaomi Corp, the people said, declining to be identified as the talks were confidential.

Huawei, the world's biggest telecoms equipment vendor and No.2 smartphone maker, declined to comment as did TCL. Digital China and Xiaomi did not respond to requests for comment.

The Honor brand was established by&nbsp;Huawei&nbsp;in 2013 but the business mostly operates independently from its parent.

'A WIN-WIN SITUATION'

Kuo Ming-chi, an analyst at TF International Securities, has said that any sale by&nbsp;Huawei&nbsp;of the Honor smartphone business would be a win-win situation for the Honor brand, its suppliers and China's electronics industry.

"If Honor is independent from&nbsp;Huawei, its purchase of components will no longer be subject to the US&nbsp;ban on&nbsp;Huawei. This will help Honor's smartphone business and the suppliers," he wrote in a research note last week.

The US&nbsp;government last year moved to prevent most US&nbsp;companies from conducting business with&nbsp;Huawei, saying the tech giant was ultimately answerable to the Chinese government.&nbsp;Huawei&nbsp;has repeatedly denied being a national security risk.

In May, Washington announced new rules aimed at constricting&nbsp;Huawei's ability to procure crucial chips that it designs for 5G networking gear and smartphones.

The Honor brand, which sells its phones online through its own sites and via third-party retailers, competes with Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo in the market for lower-end phones in China. Its phones are also sold in Southeast Asia and Europe.

Honor brand smartphones accounted for 14.6 million, or 26 per cent of the 55.8 million smartphones&nbsp;Huawei&nbsp;shipped in the second quarter of this year, according to estimates from research firm Canalys.

But margins for lower-end phones can be razor thin, and Honor booked less than 5 billion yuan in net profit on revenue of about 70-80 billion yuan last year, said one of the people.

If successful in its bid, Digital China, which also partners with&nbsp;Huawei&nbsp;in cloud computing and other businesses, plans to finance the bulk of deal with bank loans and is set to secure the financing in the coming weeks, the people said.

Shares in Digital China initially rose by their maximum daily limit of 10% but later pared gains to stand 3 per cent&nbsp;higher on Wednesday afternoon, giving the Shenzhen-listed company a market value of around $2.9 billion.
