To guard against impinging on people’s privacy, contact records will be stored on individual devices rather than a central server, using a standard developed by Apple (AAPL.O) and Google (GOOGL.O).

Technology and defence company Indra (IDR.MC) has been contracted to manage the pilot at a cost of about $375,000.

A new device that fits on to the existing air vents inside an airplane cabin could help reduce the risk of inflight coronavirus transmission.

The simple device is called AirShield.

Seattle-based technology company Teague says the device enhances air flows that help minimise the spread of germs on board, creating an invisible 'shield' around passengers.

AirShield is a 3D-printed component that fits onto the Passenger Service Unit above each passenger in an airplane cabin. The unit usually contains a reading light and vents, known as air gaspers, which send air downward onto the seat occupant.

AirShield sculpts the flow into blades that ensure any respiratory droplets are retained within a single passenger's space, and shouldn't be breathed in by the occupant of a neighbouring seat.

The passenger can control the direction and velocity of the air that's blasting onto them in the same way that they can also decide if they want their light on or off.

Normally, air on board a passenger plane is fed in through the top of the cabin and then extracted by floor vents to be fed through high-efficiency particulate absorbing (HEPA) filters that take out 99.9% of microbial content.

This makes the air that's coming back through the gaspers freshly purified.

AirShield is the latest in a slew of designs aim to reassure returning fliers in the wake of the pandemic. It received patent clearance earlier this month.

I’ve been using the Elite Active 75ts for a couple of weeks now and I’m truly happy having them as my daily drivers. They’re the best-sounding truly wireless earbuds in the Indian market today.&nbsp;

The one noticeable difference between the Elite 75ts and the Elite Active 75ts is that the latter’s earbuds and charging case have rubberised textures unlike the smooth textures on the former.&nbsp;

The rubberised texture makes a huge difference in the comfort levels when holding the charging case or having the earbuds inside your ears. The earbuds themselves look really sleek and the colour coding between the case and the earbuds deserves a thumbs up.&nbsp;

Case and fit: Can wear them for many hours on a stretch&nbsp;

The case itself features a USB Type-C charging point but unfortunately doesn’t support wireless charging like that of the Galaxy Buds+ from Samsung and the AirPods Pro from Apple.&nbsp;

The fit on the earphones is always the number one priority for customers. This is because the sheer number of hours they’d be stuck inside your ears, so having something that is comfortable for the long run, is preferable. Let me just say this. The Elite Active 75ts felt comfortable even after using them for five hours straight. In fact, at times, I had forgotten they were in my ears. Each earbud weighs just 5.5g, while the charging case weighs 35g.&nbsp;

Furthermore, having no wires means TWEs are easy to wear in 2020. While we’re all wearing a mask, it’s easy to just pop these truly wireless earbuds into your ear and take them out whenever. You needn’t have to worry about them getting entangled in your mask.&nbsp;

Included in the box are three different-sized pairs of ear tips so that there is a right fit for everyone. For me, it was the medium-sized that fit snugly in my ears and refused to fall out during runs.&nbsp;

The one downside is that there is no active noise cancellation (ANC) like on the cheaper Galaxy Buds+. The earbuds offer good passive noise isolation that reduces ambient noise. This isn’t ANC but one could argue that you wouldn’t really need/use the feature while exercising, especially if it is outdoors. The Elite Active 75ts have a HearThrough function. This lets you simultaneously listen to your music/podcast as well as what is going on nearby.&nbsp; 
 
Sound quality: Excellent, as always&nbsp;

The Elite Active 75ts&nbsp;sounds way better than they should. The bass is booming and the audio fills your ears like a concert fills a room. The sound comes into your ears just the same way a performance or a movie in a cinema hall does. It doesn’t escape you even for one minute.&nbsp;

There’s also a four-mic array that optimises audio quality during calls. One of the microphones in each earbud is dedicated to noise reduction while making calls.&nbsp;

A much-needed software update&nbsp;

At the end of May, Jabra released an update for the truly wireless earbuds, making them even better and fixing the physical controls that are so hard to get used to. The Jabra Sound+ app now features MySound and MyControls.&nbsp;

MySound customises the audio output based on your hearing. You’re taken through a hearing test - asked to tap the icon at every tone - for each ear individually. Based on the test - frequencies and volumes - the app creates a personalised sound profile. This tech is in collaboration with GN Hearing, a company that’s been developing hearing aids for decades.&nbsp;

MyControls lets you remap the buttons on your earbuds individually. All three controls - single, double or triple pressing a button - can now perform a different action. The one expected feature that hasn’t made it is that MyControls doesn’t allow you to operate one earbud independently. That’s a major disappointment. Jabra has promised to release an update, in the near future, to address this issue.&nbsp;

Battery life: Pretty stellar&nbsp;

The Elite Active 75ts are rated at 7.5 hours on a single charge and just about four more charges with the case for a total of 28 hours. I found it to be more or less accurate. I averaged about just over seven hours on a single charge during my test. The charging case died after two whole weeks of listening, which is pretty good.&nbsp;

The charging time though is somewhat slow but that shouldn’t put you off.&nbsp;

Verdict: A must-buy over the regular Elite 75ts&nbsp;

The Jabra Elite Active 75ts have some nifty differences from its elder brother, the Elite 75ts that make it a must-buy in today’s crowded TWEs market. If you really need ANC then you’re the best bet is the Galaxy Buds+ from Samsung.&nbsp;

The Nokia 5310 may win the ‘cutest mobile phone of the year’ award but let me tell you that it isn’t much more than a looker. In a world of Jio Phones from Reliance and other beefier feature phones, Nokia is tapping into nostalgia harder than most.&nbsp;

When I first got my hands on the Nokia 5310, I couldn’t wait to unbox it. With a plethora of Nokia mobile phones still lying around my house, it’s safe to say that prior to 2007 they were a huge hit in my household. From form factor to being packed with extra features, Nokia was way ahead of its time back then. The overall design language of the 2020 Nokia 5310 turned back the time and brought back many memories. From a design standpoint, the Nokia 5310 is faultless. I got the black variant with the red side panels that include the music buttons and I was sold.&nbsp;

Today, society lives on its smartphones more than ever. Whether we’re lying down in bed, commuting to our offices or just lost in a city that isn’t ours, smartphones come in handy in more ways than one. We use them to communicate to our friends and family via texting, calling, video chatting and so much more. These days smartphones come with larger displays, multiple cameras, bigger batteries and enough processing power to get us through a full day of work, rest and relaxation and so much more.&nbsp;

First impressions may only go so far though. Shortly after going through the specifications sheet and turning the phone on I became disappointed. It seems like the brand cannot shake off it’s pre-economic recession traits. The brand has grown in many ways but some of its decisions are baffling in today’s world.&nbsp;

From HMD Global’s standpoint, releasing feature phones in a market like India makes sense. First, the feature phone market is still a large part of the mobile phone industry in India. Second, tapping into that nostalgia helps consumers make an instant connection. Third, according to a CMR report released last week, mobile audio is more important to the consumer than cameras. Fourth, a lot of people are still buying their first ever mobile phone and don’t want to spend a whole lot of dough.&nbsp;

With all this in mind, let’s bring it back to the choices Nokia has made in 2020. The Nokia 5310 comes with a 2.4-inch QVGA display, 8MB RAM, 16MB internal storage (expandable to 32GB via microSD card), a 1,200mAh battery, a VGA camera, dual-front speakers and the most-loved feature, the FM radio.&nbsp;

The camera could have been slightly better and maybe a sharper display, but beyond that, you can’t really fault HMD. With a device this side and a price point palatable for most of the population, there really was not a lot of wriggle room for HMD. There’s also the removable battery that we all miss and the small form factor we certainly loved.&nbsp;

Where you can fault HMD is in the choice of connectivity. In a world of WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube, the least Nokia could have included is 3G, let alone 4G - the standard offering in 2020. Furthermore, unlike Reliance’s Jio Phone 2, there is no Wi-Fi functionality.&nbsp;

With limited capabilities on the Nokia 5310, one struggles to find a reason to think this feature phone will fly off the shelves (virtual, these days, brought to us by the coronavirus pandemic).&nbsp;&nbsp;

Industry analysts will also wrestle with the mere existence of the Nokia 5310. It’s a refurbished device from 2007. It isn’t particularly new or earth-shattering. The competition will easily take it out with feature phones that have beefier specs and cheaper price points.&nbsp;

At Rs 3,399, it’s puzzling as to what HMD Global’s strategy is for the Nokia 5310. Is it being pitched purely on nostalgia? Is it going to win the hearts of audiophiles? Is it tapping into first-time mobile phone users? Is it a 2G feature phone trying to stay afloat in a sea of 3G/4G feature phones? Who knows.&nbsp;

When I think of feature phones these days and the ways companies can expand their reach is by pitching it as a second ‘phone’. A phone that never dies, and even if you drop it a thousand times, it won’t get rattled.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Still, the omissions made by HMD Global don’t sync up with today’s consumer demands. Shopkeepers across the country (whenever they finally open up) will be struggling to find reasons to pitch this to the influx of customers into their stories.&nbsp;

The Nokia 5310 is available in just one variant, at Rs 3,399. For reference, Reliance’s Jio Phone 2 is available at Rs 2,999.&nbsp;

Nokia 5310 redux: A glorified MP3 player or just another feature phone in a crowded market?

Twitter Inc has said that they will be testing their new feature that will allow users to tweet with their voice. The feature will capture up to 140 seconds of audio in a single tweet.&nbsp;

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced this through a post which said: "Today we're starting to launch payments for people using WhatsApp in Brazil. We're making sending and receiving money as easy as sharing photos," he said. He also claimed that the small businesses will be able to make sales right within WhatsApp.

"To do this, we're building on Facebook Pay, which provides a secure and consistent way to make payments across our apps," he added.

According to the Zuckerberg, WhatsApp is working with local backs in Brazil, like Banco do Brasil, Nubank, Sicredi as well as Cielo, the leading payments processor for merchants in the country.

In the official blog post, the company cleared that payment security is their top priority and will use a special six-digit PIN or fingerprint in order to stop unauthorised transactions.

The post stated, "Payments on WhatsApp are made using Facebook Pay. We want that in future people and business can use the same card on all Facebook apps."

In India, the feature did not take off&nbsp;due to regulatory issues. The feature was tested on just 1 million users despite WhatsApp having 400 million users in India.

The US Commerce Department and other agencies signed off on a rule change on Monday that ensures Huawei’s inclusion in a US trade blacklist will not prevent American companies from international 5G standards-development activities. Also read: China is using Huawei to drive a wedge in the UK-US special relationship: Senator “This is not a friendly gesture by the US, but simply a reflection on its part that it is too late and too expensive for any country to develop its own 5G standard,” Jefferies equity analyst Edison Lee said on Tuesday. A Huawei spokeswoman declined to comment on the US decision. Lee said feedback from US tech companies likely convinced the Trump administration that it is not realistic for the US to create its own version of 5G. Large US firms, including Intel Corp and Qualcomm, have already contributed plenty to 5G standards under the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), an international collaboration of seven telecoms standard development organisations that draw up complete mobile system specifications. The stakes are high for US companies to remain in these standards discussions because 3GPP is now at work on introducing Release 16 of the next-generation mobile technology’s global standard. This involves support for new applications such as autonomous driving, smart factories and remote surgeries in the health care sector – among a range of innovations that are expected to help fuel economic growth for countries over the next decade. “The US has more to lose if their companies are cut off from further participation in that process,” Jefferies’ Lee said. “Huawei has leading patent shares in 5G, which could rise further if US companies stop contributing.” China’s road to 5G has been filled with difficulties. In 2012, two years before China Mobile launched 4G services on the mainland, various Chinese entities joined an international initiative to research and develop 5G. The world’s second largest economy is now estimated to account for 35 per cent of 5G standard-essential patent declarations, about 15 per cent of which come from Shenzhen-based Huawei, according to Lee, citing data from German research firm IPlytics. By comparison, US companies’ share is estimated at roughly 13 per cent, he said.
